I imported cds while not connected to the internet, now I want to update song info automatically, can I do that?u

You can right-click, but if you have not configured the mouse to do so Control+click to bring up the contextual menu. "Get track names" will be there.

  • Update song info problems in itunes

I just updated to ios5.01 on my ipod touch.  If I try to update the song info, it makes the
change in itunes but does not replicate the change to the ipod itself.  Anyone have any ideas?

Manually delete the track on the iPod, resync.

  • How to refresh or update song info on iPhone with iTunes Match?

If i change info like an album name, on my MacBook Air's iTunes, the song still appears on my iPhone (that has iTunes Matching turned on also) under the old album name, even if I rescan with iTunes Match. Does anyone know how to update this? I've even tried turning iTunes Match off on my iPhone, syncing, then turning it back on.

Much like the act of putting your old chumbawumba cd in a box in the attic to make space on your shelf for newer and better music, you should cleanse your iphone of old music files regularly.  Songs aren't gone forever, you can still dust them off and listen to them later if the mood strikes.
    Open settings click general>usage>storage>music>edit
Then delete all locally stored music
If your in the mood you can always download that catchy "I get knocked down, but I get up again... You ain't ever gonna keep me down" track and rock out like its 1998 (or whenever that **** song came out)

  • ITunes wont let update song info AND creates duplicates of song files

When I click "Get Info" some of my song information is grey and won't let me update or change song names, artist names or add artwork. It says the encoding is unknown, but some of it's come straight off a cd!
Also, does anyones iTunes, duplicate songs? I keep getting two files of each song, and I have no idea why.

This can also happen if they are WAV files, as WAV files don't support ID3 tags (i.e. song information tags).
EDIT: On second thought, I think WAV files can have ID3 information, but they don't support artwork. Nevermind.

  • Can't update song info in itunes

I keep my iTunes library on an external drive and recently had to replace the hard drive in my PC, at the same time I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7.
Now I can't update any of the information on the songs which were already on the external drive. Any new songs are fine.
    Can soemone help?

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
If it won't let you change the permissions use the Owner tab to take ownneship from an account with administror privileges.

  • IPod won't update song info

Basically when I add a song onto the iPod, it'll show up normally on iTunes (Song name, artist, album) but on the iPod Touch it will just show SONG NAME - UNKNOWN ARTIST - UNKNOWN ALBUM. This is a new issue, since upgrading iTunes to 10.6 and I have tried changing to No ID3 Tags, but nothing works. It's extremely frustrating. I dunno if it's a iPod issue or an iTunes issue since all my over songs have been updating fine.

Could you let me know when you find out? i'm having the same issue.

  • How to update song info in iTune & IPOD after changes made in source drive?

After I added songs to library in iTune and updated in IPOD, I notices some some information was not correct. How can I update the song information to iTunes & IPOD other than clicking each song one by one? In another words, is there a way to batch update the song information from the source drive (I have uploaded all my CDs and saved on my harddrive.
    Thank you.

I understand that you use iTunes to sync, but somehow didn't use iTunes to delete the file. You will have to use the iTunes interface to delete the file. Go to iTunes/Books, highlight the book, and delete the file. The next time you sync,  you should not see the message.
Respond in this thread with the results, so we know the problem is fixed or not.

  • Updating song info from iPod to iTunes Library

I've got an iPod Video 60GB. I manually control the content on my iPod and iTunes. I listen to my iPod at work all the time and rarely listen to music on my computer. How do I get iTunes to update my Library with the play count, song rating, and last played data from my iPod?

To move your library see this migrate iTunes library post.
If it is only the media on the external drive see Make a split library portable.
You should make your edits in iTunes, and backup the library against problems.
Automatic syncing is generally easier, but if you edit in iTunes and then drag & drop updated files to the device, the updated files should replace the originals. Dragging songs the other way is not supported.
If you want to try extracting the updated tracks from your device see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Updated to ios5 cant edit song info via itunes anymore

Here's what's going on. I updated my OS on iPod Touch and when I did, all my content on it got deleted sans photos and contact info. Not too big of a deal but now when I drag songs from my music folder in windows and edit the song info in iTunes (i.e. changing Sade to Everything But The Girl) it does so in iTunes but the info isn't changed on my iPod. Any info would help and keep my hair in. Email [email protected]

    Problem Solved:
#1) after you install iTunes and reboot as it tells you to you must start up the program then log out of the program
#2) reboot 1 more time (this is redundant but you must do it to get your equalizer working and the ability to edit your song information).
    Everything is working correctly now.

  • Cant change song info on new ios update

ok ever since i updated to iOS5 i cant change the song info on my ipod touch when i change the info on itunes?!?! it syncs but song info dosnt change ie. the song name, album.

check out does iTunes detect song codec and ID3-tag is v.2.3 or 2.4. If iTunes shows that it's unknow, you can't change tag ..... it's a bug which appeared in 10.5.x
I have the same problem when dropping songs into device, but there is a solution, convert songs in mp3 or other format, use, for example, Xilisoft Audio Converter Pro. So, I've lost over 1 Tb music I have underlined a string where you can see name of codec.

  • Mp3 tagging song info rename revert PROBLEM!!!

    Hi guys,
I can see that there are loads of people who have the same problem as me. That is... that itunes is a mp3 tagging nightmare. The problem is simple. after editing song information in itunes. sometime later, itunes will happily revert or change the info back to the original file name or only display a portion of it. Im sure you guys know what im talking bout. Someone suggested that u edit the ID3 tags with an external program. However, what i dont understand is that, my itunes last time had no problem whatsoever displaying the correctly edited song information. Suddenly, now it decides to randomly change whatever it feels like. Also, it is extremely troublesome to externally edit the song info. The whole point of itunes is to make it convenient and simple to use. What is the point of having itunes only to have to use another program to edit the info??? I have seen numerous other threads with the same problem as me. What frustrates me is that... why is Apple not doing anything bout it? and why arent they posting any solutions or answers as to why their fantastic software is behaving like a spoilt kid. Why are there no answers. It is NOT a small program. I have about 10000 songs and countless CDs. You cannot imagine what a headache it is to have spent months and months of carefully and meticulously editing the song info in itunes to perfection, only to start it up one day and find that 5000 songs are incorrectly named.
For Apple, this is just simply unacceptable.

Hey guys, i got this from the WMP help file...
"Update my music files (WMA and MP3 files) by retrieving missing media information from the Internet
Specifies that the Player automatically obtain and update missing media information for music files that are added to or are in Media Library, if the information is available. By default, the music files in your My Music folder are added to Media Library.
The Player attempts to update any missing media information in your music files by sending data about the files to a database operated by WindowsMedia.com if this check box is selected and you perform any of the following actions:
Use Media Library for the first time after updating the Player
Add files to Media Library by searching your computer
Add files to monitored folders, such as My Music
For example, if you have music files that contain the artist name but not the album name, the Player adds the album name to the file after retrieving the information from the database.
The Player also adds album art to files and music folders in your My Music folder."
In light of this information, wouldnt it be fair to say that WMp will only rename the files if they are physically added by the user in WMP? If i am not using WMP to play my mp3s, then why would WMP still be tracking and altering the file names?

  • Itouch 4th Generation won't update songs when i edit them through devices

Whenever i update songs on itunes from devices they wont update on the ipod itself just on the library list under devices and it will stay the same on the ipod as before i edited so i have to erase them edit them on itunes library and them drag them again into ipod i wanna be able to edit them withouth having to edit info in library and have to drag them also when i put an album artwork the same way the picture wont be on the ipod and it will skip the song as soon as it start i just got the ipod yesterday brand new?

This is normal and is how Apple handles photos.
    There are NOT duplicate photos.
Just as a song is in your itunes library and you can access that exact same song from a playlist,  all  photos synced to iphone are in the photo library and those exact same photos (NOT duplicates) can be accessed from the individual albums.
It is working exactly as it should.

  • Will edited song info be saved?

I swear I've edited the info in my music library for songs so that the artist name, song title, etc. are correct. However it seems like iTunes is not permanently saving these changes. I could be wrong...
My question is: If I edit song info in "Get Info" will it be saved permanently?
It is tedious to keep doing this. I just want to know if my efforts are futile.
    Dell Desktop   Windows XP Pro

All settings are saved during backup.
I manually setup my mail accounts and don't sync them.
With each update of the firmware, all is wiped and put back on and my settings are always there.
I beleive the only thing that doesn't get backed up is your Camera Roll (photos you took with phone). Could be wrong though. Think they may of changed that somewhere along the line.
Settings of everything are saved (preferences, cookies, saved data from applications you installed, etc). All other content is on your computer (music, videos, apps, etc).

  • Keep recieving error -1202 when trying to update billing info in iTunes...?

So, my mother keeps getting this issue and knowing how to fix it would be nice. When she clicks buy on a song, she signs in and it's fine. Then it says she has to update her billng information.
When she goes to update it, she comes to this unusual-looking page:
    http://i48.tinypic.com/2hdw681.jpg
However, even just clicking on the type of card to use in order to update the info, gives this message:

What on earth is doing this? We've tried running as an Administrator.....

It is an entry in the Hosts file. It is not a file.

  • Song Info is not staying put

I am pretty anal about keeping my music collection organized, so after I import new songs into iTunes, I like to edit the song info to change the track number, disc number, genre and other things. I hit OK, and the changes appear to be groovy, but as soon as I play one of those tracks that I just edited, the info goes back to what it was when I originally imported the track. I have enabled iTunes to keep my music folder organized and all music files I use are in that folder that's specified.
Any idea how I can make these edits permanent so I can finally quit repeating all the work I've been putting in to cleaning up my collection?
    Thanks much
    -Chris

Excellent question ! You need to make regular backups of the itunes database file, which is named
    iTunes Library.itl
That is the file that holds ratings, play counts, and other metadata. With that ITL file, you can rebuild your itunes library if your hard drive crashes.
I copy mine over to a USB thumb drive about once a week. More often if I've added lots of music, and ALWAYS before any itunes update.
You can back up the XML and Genius files too, but as I said, the most important is the ITL file. iTunes can re-create the XML and genius files from the ITL.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660
That article doesn't list the default Vista path - it's something like
    c:\ users \Music\iTunes on Vista
But you may be running your library from a non-default place.
The actual track info should stay within the track's tags.
