Updating Text in PDF to Japanesse Characters

I'm trying to send a editable PDF to a rep in Japan. They will need to replace text in the document with their Japanesse characters. Does Acrobat support the japanesse character set when updating the text in a PDF?

Extensive replacing of text in a PDF document is a very laborious and time consuming task even without changing the fonts used. My advice would be to look for another way of doing what you want.

    Hi ,
Could you please update me with few details like what version of Acrobat are you using?
What OS do you work on ?
Do you experience this any particular PDF or happens with all of them?
Did you try the same with turning on the OCR ?Please check the same and compare the outputs .Does that help you in anyway ?
If the file is not confidential ,could you please share the file with us so that we can analyse it our end and revert you with the appropriate answer .

  • Changing the seeded rdf report output from text to PDF

    Hi All,
I am trying to change the seeded report "Print Requisition Report" output from text to PDF. I changed the output format in the concurrent program definition from text to pdf. The report is now getting displayed in pdf format, but the alignment of the fields are changed. The output is not printing as it was printing while in the text output format. The output looks very sloppy, with uneven fonts and too much of text wrapping.
I tried some formatting and fields are somehow getting displayed but doesnt look in proper format. I am not able to change the font style in the report builder 6i, even if i change it is printing in the same font style with uneven font size. I think reducing the font size might help, but i am unable to change. We are on 11.5.10.2. Please provide your valuable suggestions on how to go about.
    Thanks
    Sarvesh

    Hi Hussein,
Thanks for the information. After the adjustments in the layout and the font change the report is now getting displayed without any clipping when clicked on view output. But when the same report is printed some characters on the left and and right side is getting clipped. Please help on how to solve this issue.
    Thanks,

  • Missing text in PDF when I use Acrobat 9.2 and FM 9

I was able to PDF ok from FM9 using Acrobat 6, but when I upgraded to Acrobat 9.2,
I'm getting some missing text in the PDF. Some non-bold text is missing. The number
for Chapter 3 is missing in the TOC. Any suggestions?

I was able to PDF ok from FM9 using Acrobat 6, ...
What font name, format (TTF, PFB/PFM, OTF?) and vintage?
Did you upgrade the fonts when upgrading the apps?
Any chance you have multiple copies of the same typeface name installed? Historically, having both the TTF and PFM (Type 1) of the same name installed could have undesired results.
... but when I upgraded to Acrobat 9.2, I'm getting some missing text in the PDF. Some non-bold text is missing.
What is "some text"? Some entire typefaces (all text thereof), or just some characters of a typeface, like, say, the ligatures in Helvetica.
The number for Chapter 3 is missing in the TOC.
What font is Frame looking for?
Also, are you embedding the fonts during PDF creation?

  • Issue while converting turkish text in PDF via SMARTFORMS

    Hello Experts ,
We are currently involved in translating an application to Turkish. Though the translation is completely done, when we test the issue we find that the application is working perfectly with the Turkish text but the transfer of data from application to the PDF via SMARTFORM is not working correctly. We find that the issue is due to 3 characters in Turkish which are (Ğ,İ,ş), We found out that this issue can be resolved using the  OSS Note 625818.
However we have another issue which has cropped up.
Wherever certain characters are being printed the characters right after them are printing at the same location and thus overlapping.
    For eg:
Whenever the character u201CIu201D is printed it is being overlapped by the character which is supposed to be printed after it instead of printing next to it.
    Should be - İN
    Currently -  both are overlapping
Any idea on how can this be fixed?
when I actually tried to copy the text from PDF and paste it in this email the character u201CIu201D is replaced by the character u201CÝu201D in this email text box.
Please find below the actual text from the PDF. The u201C u201D is seen nowhere and is replaced by the u201CÝu201D.
    GÖREVÝN DEGERLENDÝRÝLMES
we have found a solution for the same which is to give a tab space between the İ and N but this will lead to unnecessery space in the application.
    Thank You!
    Best Regards
    Bonny

    Hi,
We cannot print some characters as such, so try converting it to string or char then go for PDF.
Check the below link and note:

  • Unicode text in PDF

I have gone through some threads about japanese/chinease text in PDF.
my application creates PDF files. In my application text is stored in UNICODE form. currently the text (for Tj) is convered to char* which is locale dependant. I need to store text in PDF which will be locale independant.
I am using 'embedded' type 1 (TTF) font in above example. The result is, PDF created on Eng locale gives '?' for (each) *** text and PDF created on *** locale gives correct results (*How*).
From PDF Ref 3.8.1 Text Strings, I understand that, the text can be stored in UTF-16BE. I tried it but boxes (default char) apears in Adobe Reader 6.0... means each byte is treated seperatly. But as I said before for PDF created on *** locale (eventhough 1 character is of 2 byte) characters are read correctly.
This is a situation. Now I am confused about some aspects of speficications:
    - Do I have to use 'type 0' font object (even if I am embedding simple TTF) to display text beyond 256 char code?
    - why 2 bytes per character is read for text created on *** locale and not when I create text in UTF-16BE?
    Thanks for your help,
    Sameer

    >From PDF Ref 3.8.1 Text Strings, I understand that, the text can be stored in UTF-16BE.
Many people have read this and made a big assumption that is not
    valid.
Text strings are a particular type that is used in particular cases.
For example, they are used for bookmarks, which can indeed be
UTF-16BE. Nowhere does it say that this text string type works for
    page contents.
    >
    >- Do I have to use 'type 0' font object (even if I am embedding simple TTF) to display text beyond 256 char code?
Absolutely. A /Type1 or /TrueType font is by definition a single byte
font, and the rules for Encoding are followed exactly as described.
There is no two byte escape.
If you wanted to use only 256 characters FROM a large font this is
possible; you could break your Japanese font down into multiple
embedded subsets, each of less than 256 characters.
    >
    >- why 2 bytes per character is read for text created on *** locale and not when I create text in UTF-16BE?
You mean this sometimes seems to work? Suggests a bug.

  • [Bug Report] CR4E V2: Exported PDF displays Japanese characters incorrectly

We now plan to transport a legacy application from VB to Java with Crystal Reports for Eclipse. It is required to export report as PDF file, but result PDFs display Japanese characters incorrectly for field with some mostly used Japanese fonts (MS Gothic & Mincho).
Here is our sample Crystal Reports project:   [download related resources here|http://sites.google.com/site/cr4eexportpdf/example-of-cr4e-export-pdf]
    1. PDFExportSample.rpt located under ..\src contains fields with different Japanese fonts.
    2. Run SampleViewerFrameClient#main(..) to open a Java Report Viewer:
        a) At zoom rate 100%, everything is ok.
        b) Change zoom rate to 200% or 50%, some fields in Japanese font collapse.
        c) Export to PDF file,
             * Fonts "MS Gothic & Mincho": both ASCII & Japanese characters failed.
             * Fonts "Meiryo & HGKyokashotai": everything works well.
             * Open PDF properties, you will see all fonts are embedded with built-in encoding.
             * Interest to note that copy collapsed Japanese characters from Acrobat Reader, then
paste them into a Notepad window, Notepad will show the correct Japanese characters anyway.
It seems PDF export in CR4E mistaking to choose right typeface for Japanese characters
               from some TTF file.
    3. Open PDFExportSample.rpt in Crystal Report 2008 Designer (trial version), and export it as PDF.
The result PDF displays both ASCII & Japanese characters without any problem.
    Test environment as below:
    * Windows XP Professional SP3 (Japanese) with MS Office which including extra fonts (i.e. HGKyokashotai)
    * Font version: MS Gothic, Mincho, Meiryo, all in Version 5.0
You can download MS Meiryo from Microsoft's Site:
        http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=F7D758D2-46FF-4C55-92F2-69AE834AC928&displaylang=en)
    * Eclipse 3.5.2
    * Crystal Reports for Eclipse, V2, 12.2.207.r916
Can this problem be fixed? If yes how long will it take to release a patch?
We really looking forward to a solution before abandoning CR4E.
    Thanks for any reply.

I have created a [simple PDF file|http://sites.google.com/site/cr4eexportpdf/inside-the-pdf/simple.pdf?attredirects=0&d=1] exported from CR4E. It is expected to display "漢字" (or in unicode as "\u6F22\u5B57"), but instead being rendered in different ones of "殱塸" (in unicode as "\u6BB1\u5878").
Look inside into this simple PDF file (you can just open it with your favorite text editor), here is its page content:
    8 0 obj
    <</Filter [ /FlateDecode ] /Length 120>>
    stream ... endstream
    endobj
    Decode this stream, we get:

    endobj
I can write out the embedded TrueType font subset (= "14 0 obj") to a file named "[embedded.ttc|http://sites.google.com/site/cr4eexportpdf/inside-the-pdf/embedded.ttf?attredirects=0&d=1]", which is really a tiny TrueType font file containing only the wrong typefaces for "漢" & "字". It seems everything OK except CR4E failed to choose right typefaces from the TrueType file (msgothic.ttc).
Is it any help? I am looking forward to any solution.

  • Hello. My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files. Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????? I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9

My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files.Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????/ I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9
    Please help me!!!!

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Outline box when editing text in PDF using v8

We are running, Windows XP, Acro8 with updates. Created PDF files from within INDCS3. Many of the frames are independent.
When trying to edit the text using the touchup text tool in Acrobat v8, it outlines complete area on the form which are not the same as the frames in INDCS3.
Was this something new in v8 and how could this be removed via preferences.

This started happening back in AA6 I think. It is not new.

  • Text in PDFs sometimes looks/prints wrong on OS X but is OK in Windows

For a couple years now I've been hit with a problem with PDFs (in both OS X Tiger and Leopard, on PPC Macs and Intel Macs). Simply put, some PDFs simply look and print better on Windows. I hate that because I want to print them on my Mac and have the hardcopy print with all the text looking as it should. I shouldn't have to fire up a Windows machine to accomplish this!
For example, the PDFs generated by TurboTax Online, and the datasheets on Microchip.com exhibit this problem. Please view this PDF in Safari 4 or in OS 10.5's Preview:
    http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/AppNotes/00594B.PDF
Now view it in Windows and you will see that the body text on the Mac is outrageously bold in comparison. And yes, it will print BOLD too on the Mac. Of course, if you have Acrobat 9 for OS X, you will find that the body text is normal (not bold). But not all PDFs can be viewed "as expected" simply by using Acrobat 9 instead of Apple's Preview as I shall now explain.
All TurboTax Online generated PDFs and some US government PDFs (such as passport applications) are problematic. With these PDFs (especially TurboTax Online), most lowercase "r's" are horizontally compressed and fonts too bold on the Mac, regardless of whether you view the file in Safari, Preview or Acrobat 9 on OS 10.5. And I tried downloading those PDFs from different browsers too, but that didn't matter. But when I view those same PDFs on Windows, everything looks fine (no excessive bolding of text, and no compressed "r" characters).
I've grown tired of using Windows to get around this problem in OS X. Can someone please help?
    Thank you!

In terms of the fonts contained in the PDF itself, yes, I am indeed getting different PDF files depending on whether I download them on a Windows PC or on a Mac running OS X.
Yes, I can copy the PDF to the Mac (running OS X), which was originally downloaded on the PC (and looks fine on the PC). And when I view that PDF (again, the one originally downloaded on the PC) in OS X, it looks fine. And if I take the same PDF which was downloaded originally on OS X and then display it on the PC, I can see the font problems on the PC. So the ticket to success, sadly, is that I have to use a PC to download some PDFs or suffer font problems.
For example, I have two versions of the same PDF saved on my Intel iMac. I downloaded both from TurboTax Online, but one was downloaded on the PC and the other on my Mac. The one that was downloaded on the PC looks great and prints great (and is the one I printed and submitted to the IRS). Opening both in Acrobat 9 (on the Mac), I then go to the File menu and choose "Properties" and then view the "Fonts Used in this Document."
The PDF that was generated on the PC (the one that looks perfect) uses 7 fonts (all marked with a red, lower case "a" graphic to the left of them in Acrobat):
    Courier
    Helvetica
    Helvetica-Bold
    Helvetica-BoldOblique
    Helvetica-Narrow
    Helvetica-Narrow-Bold
    Helvetica-Oblique
    QuickTypePi (Embedded)
But the other PDF, which I downloaded in OS X (the one that has messed up lowercase r's), uses the following 29 fonts (yes, some do look like duplicates, but this is exactly how they show in Acrobat 9):
(These have a "TT" document icon to the left of them in Acrobat)
    Courier (Embedded Subset)
    Courier (Embedded Subset)
    Helvetica (Embedded Subset)
    Helvetica (Embedded Subset)
    Helvetica-Bold (Embedded Subset)
    Helvetica-Bold (Embedded Subset)
(And these have a red, lower case "a" graphic to the left of them in Acrobat)
    Helvetica-BoldOblique
    Helvetica-Oblique
    HelveticaLTMM10001 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM1000134 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM1000267 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM100068 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM134867 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM1800 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM2011 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM2011000 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201134 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201201 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201267 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201334 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201401 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201534 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201667 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201867 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM201933 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM68800 (Embedded Subset)
    HelveticaLTMM68867 (Embedded Subset)
    QuickTypePi (Embedded Subset)
    QuickTypePi (Embedded Subset)
So why then does simply downloading the same PDF on the Mac (running OS X) cause a font mess?
To simply say "the font producer" is at fault does not give a technical explanation on why this is happening. And it is not like TurboTax is a small company other. Also, I get similar problems when downloaded some US government PDFs, so it's hard for me to see how the "producer" is at fault here. Something is screwy in the Mac OS, hence my post here to find out what is at fault, and then get it fixed (if possible).
    Thanks,
    James

  • Applescript or workflow to extract text from PDF and rename PDF with the results

    Hi Everyone,
I get supplied hundreds of PDFs which each contain a stock code, but the PDFs themselves are not named consistantly, or they are supplied as multi-page PDFs.
What I need to do is name each PDF with the code which is in the text on the PDF.
It would work like this in an ideal world:
    1. Split PDF into single pages
    2. Extract text from PDF
    3. Rename PDF using the extracted text
    I'm struggling with part 3!
I can get a textfile with just the code (using a call to BBEDIT I'm extracting the code)
I did think about using a variable for the name, but the rename functions doesn't let me use variables.

    Hello
You may also try the following applescript script, which is a wrapper of rubycocoa script. It will ask you choose source pdf files and destination directory. Then it will scan text of each page of pdf files for the predefined pattern and save the page as new pdf file with the name as extracted by the pattern in the destination directory. Those pages which do not contain string matching the pattern are ignored. (Ignored pages, if any, are reported in the result of script.)
Currently the regex pattern is set to:
    /HB-.._[0-9]{6}/
which means HB- followed by two characters and _ and 6 digits.
    Minimally tested under 10.6.8.
    Hope this may help,

  • Print Preview: SAP GUI showing updated text, CRM UI not showing updated text

    Hello,
can anyone please help me with "Print Preview" button in CRM UI:
In the CRM UI when a certain data is changed on the document, a note on the document is updated with changes in data. When pressing the "Print Preview" button the generated PDF is not showing an updated text. If i run the SmartForm directly in SAP GUI after the data change, the generated PDF shows an updated text. If i reload the CRM UI (close the browser and run the CRM_UI transaction) the "Print Preview" shows an updated text.
What should i do, that the Print Preview in the CRM UI would also show an updated text (without reloading the CRM UI) ?

    SAP gurus, please help

    I figured the solution:
In the Code Initialization of my interface (SFP transaction) i had to initialize the buffer:
       CALL FUNCTION 'INIT_LOAD_TEXT_BUFFER'
         EXPORTING
           EXCL_ID       = ls_stxh-tdid
           EXCL_LANGUAGE = ls_stxh-tdspras
           EXCL_NAME     = ls_stxh-tdname
           EXCL_OBJECT   = ls_stxh-tdobject
         EXCEPTIONS
           NOT_FOUND     = 1
           OTHERS        = 2.
This way the text is loaded from the updated note every time a "Print Preview" button is pressed.

  • How to change text in PDF doc. which is a musical score

    Hello,
I'm new here, so please excuse me if I do or say something I shouldn't.
I need to change the words in a musical score because the font is too small. OCR recognition doesn"t work because there are illustrations that are different from images or text... Is there a way to get in there and make the changes I need to do?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but I have Adobe Reader 9 Pro. Will it still not
    work ?
