many thanks to the person's post about updating an older ipod. it works!!
click on ipod updater application--the latest one 2005-09-06. then click restore-it'll clean out the ipod contents but when it is done restoring, it will upload all the songs including the purchased ones onto the ipod, which was my problem previously.

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

I have an iPod Touch 2 with iOS 4.2.1. This is the highest version that works on this device. I checked it once and it had to do with iOS 4.3 and above only supporting the higher RAM CPUs on newer devices.
Apple does make it harder than it needs to be. There still remain a number of apps available on iTunes that will work but they are hard to find because you must manually look at each app specs to see if the app supports an iOS below 4.3
App backups are your friend since iTunes has no way to keep older version of apps.

I have a problem updating the new ipod touch 5th generation and I need help:
With each attempt I receive the message:
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
The iPod only displays a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an iTunes logo.
I receive a "Are you sure..." message with the 2 options, one to Restore and Update and the other to Cancel.
Each time I have selected the Restore and Update button and then moved through the acceptance screens. Then iTunes begins to download the iOS 6.0.1 Software Update, which usually takes about 50 minutes. During the download I will receive messages that an iPod has been found in restore mode.
After the download is complete no update occurs to the iPod and iTunes displays the Device Summary screen showing derive Name as iPod and all other items as n/a.
The iPod was working great without any known issues prior to attempting to update the OS.

Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

Hi all, will there come a software (firmware?) update for the new menu of the Ipod Video?
I have an Ipod video 60Gb and I'm really happy with it, but I found out that the newest ipods have some extra functionality in menu structure, which enhances the search.

Maybe it's just one of those features that were invented later...
My wife has an Ipod Mini and it has less menu possibilities than my ipod video...
I have posted the request, but as stated it will be very unlikely that they will answer the request.

I'm trying to update my nephews ipod touch. I have tryed to purchase apps, it always says "this app requires ios 4.3" I have tryed to update it thru the ipod,under settings, general, but then there is not a update link.. I dont know if it is because this ipod is older or what. I have even tryed to purchuse this games into my itunes and sync to his ipod and that will not work either. How can I update this ipod. or at least find him some games that are compatible with it? this ipod doesnt have a camera, dont know if that would matter

The computer that it was originally synced too is a dead computer but my device needs updates so how can I update the device since I can not sync it to the original computer? Is it true that if I plug it in to my new laptop it will get erased? I have something like 471 songs on it amongst other files i'd rather not lose. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Yes, your iPod can only be used with one computer/iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, its contents will be erased and replaced with contents from the new iTunes library.
Before doing anything else, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then connect your iPod Touch and when it appears in iTunes right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc. For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases. Buy an iPod classic. Apple still makes them, and the latest model has 160GB of storage. 160GB. That's a lot.

Can't update the Nike + iPod voice kit

Every time my nano (4Gb, second generation, software version 1.1.3) is connected to my iMac, iTunes 7.2 pop the message that a new Nike + iPod voice kit is available. When I click Install, nothing happens, no download or installation process begins. iTunes starts syncing contacts and calendars on the nano and that's it. I tried to update the voice kit with iTunes 7.1 to no avail either. Can someone advise some help? Thank you.

Thanks GFF. I have followed the instructions on the link you provided. I was then able to download the voice kit but it doesn't get installed correctly on the nano. Each time I connect the nano to my iMac, ITunes keeps popping the installation message and there's no French voices on the nano when using the Nike + iPod kit.
Well, running with Lance's voice is better than nothing but I would prefer to hear feedback in my native tongue...
