Updating to 4.2 on 3gs

'er indoors has a 3gs and when trying to update from 3.1.3 to 4.2 iTunes just says "the version of itunes is the current one 9.1.1"
Any ideas?

I have another question regarding this. I hope you can help.
If I update my iPhone to 4.2, would I still be able to connect it to iTunes and upload music, etc. on a MacBook with 10.4.11 installed?

In trying to include what information all that I could I should have specified I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WAS DEFINATELY JAILBROKEN when I took it to the apple store they told me there's no way for them to tell if it was jail broken or not. I'm only going by what ppl have told me COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE PHONE. With that said the only thing I know for sure is that the apple tech at the Genius Bar told me that someone took control of my root menu in February & I've had no control of my phone since. I asked him how to regain control & how he knew his exact words were "oh that is out of our scope of capabilities here at this level & you would need an apple engineer to fix it". I said ok then how do I get an apple eng then? He laughed & said you can't!!!! To which I was furious I came home & called apple requesting to speak w/the fraud dept to file a report they said we don't have a fraud dept!! So after a 45 mn phone call again I left w/no answers.

I DON'T HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO SPEND HIRING AN ATTORNEY & Although I appreciate your suggestion I fail to how an attorney would be able to facilitate in any way since there's no suspect. I cannot prove that it's him doing it so I certainly can't pursue legal action w/no proof & no money. :'((

I was looking more for a TECHNICAL way to avoid this happening w/a new phone should I buy one or trying to get them out of my phone now! Such as installing some kind of software protection?? Someway to clear out the entire phone (other than factory reset which was done 10 x's w/no success, etc. if this person got in then there HAS TO BE A WAY OF GETTING HIM OUT, right????

That usually means the phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock the phone and when you update the phone it locked back up again.
Only way to resolve this issue, is to find out who the orignal carrier was and have them unlock it. If you bought this from a 3rd party contact the seller and have him/her unlock it for you by contacting the phone carrier.

Your iPhone was not officially unlocked and has now relocked to the original cell carrier. Call AppleCare, give them the model and serial number of your iPhone and find out which cell carrier it is locked with. Next contact that cell carrier and see what their unlock process is and if you qualify.

Thanks Apple Support. Problem was wifi related. Required forgetting the network resetting the router and re- establishing the connection. If anyone has the same symptoms. Apparently has happened before

iOS 6 can be loaded without problem on the 3GS. Not all features are supported however.
With respect to your reading people are having trouble, what did you expect to see on this technical support forum? People don't write in to state they have a trouble-free upgrade.

No. The post you responded to is nearly 7 months old. At the time, 4.3.3 was the most current version for the 3GS. As of now, 5.0.1 is the most current version for the 3GS.

Disable the antivirus and firewall software on your PC. If you are running kaspersky, you may have to remove it entirely. It can interfere with the update process.

Have EXACTLY the same issue thePOPEofDOPE420, tried the setting> general> reset> reset network setting suggestion - but this does nothing. Still the issue persists.
WiFi - internet works great. As soon as it's off, status bars showing a full signal, 3G but the web page/Facebook app/App Store just hangs and won't load.

Since updating to iOS 6 my 3GS will not work

I recently updated to iOS 6 on my iphone 3GS, For a few days it has been fine, but today it started stating that I have 'No Service', which is strange. It then turned off when it got to 50% battery, and saying I needed to charge it.
When I returned home, I plugged it in to charge, it said I needed to 'set up' iOS 6, which I had done when I updated it, but I went along with it, it said to plug into itunes, which I did, told me to update, which I did.
When it finished updating it said it had found an unexpected error and I needed to restore my phone, once again, I went along with it, began restoring it, when it had finished restoring, A pop-up in itunes stated that the restore had failed and I needed to do it again. I have now 'restored' it 4 times to no avail.
It is very unconvinient to not be able to use my phone as this time, please help. Thankyou in advance.

Try in order one at a time:
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Download the apps on the computer and then sync the iPod to the computer.
- Retore the iPod from backup

IOS 5 Update and Missing Calendars on 3GS

After updating my 3GS with the iOS 5, my calendars don't show up on the calendar app. In the settings (in mail, contacts, calendars), they are "on". I tried deleting the accounts and added them back, but they still do not appear in my actual calendar. The calendars are from my Gmail accounts (2 accounts).
