Updating to FCPX 10.1.4 on Mavericks

I have both OS10.9 and 10.10 on separate drives in my 2009 MacPro. I can't update from FCPX 10.1.3 to 10.1.4 on the Mavericks drive. Yosemite drive update went fine. No updates available to FCPX on the App Store. Is the store somehow seeing that I have already installed FCPX 10.1.4 successfully on another drive? I'm not sure what or where the problem lies. Any ideas?

Make sure the Mavericks version is updated to the latest update (10.9.5).
You can check the system requirements here: https://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/specs/ (there may be some other reason why the App Store is keeping you from upgrading to the latest FCPX.)

I downloaded old version of Numbers 2.0.1 from DVD but with both versions the 2.0.1 will not open.  So both versions are present but only the new version functions. I tried to drag the new version to the trash but the old version still runs error message and will not open. I did not try to restart with the new version in the trash.

    Maybe. See:

just update my iMac from Mountain Lion to Mavericks and the application are slow to open. The same happens to opening webpages . Please help

Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstalling Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Does FCPX 10.2 runs on Maverick ?

    HI there,
I am now still using FCPX Ver 10.1 on Maverick.
Anyone knows whether this latest FCPX Ver 10.2 will run on Maverick ?
Or will it only run on Yosemite ?
    Thank you
    Cheers

Just to point out that an alternative is to install Yosemite - either on another physical drive – or by partitioning your current system drive. (It may well be possible to create the partition without erasing your current system.) You could then boot from either volume – with Mavericks on one and Yosemite on the other and install the 10.2 version on the Yosemite system.

    Thank Russ,
I just check using Utilities like how the link provided by Ian says.
I went to my Macintosh Volume and it says that I have 3TB of fusion drive.
When I said I want to create 2 partition, it named it as Macintosh and Macintosh 2.
    Questions:
    1. Say if I use Macintosh as Maverick and Macintosh 2 for Yosemite, how do I know what should be the size of both the partitions Macintosh & Macintosh 2 ?
    2. What should I put in the Maverick partition ? Only the FCPX 10.1 and its Events & Projects folder ? And how do I do that ?
    3. So, I shall put the rest of the applications in Yosemite partition ? So I must start FCPX 10.2 afresh with new events and folders altogether ?
    Thanks

  • I updated my computer to the OS X Mavericks, but how do i delete this upgrade?

i updated my computer to the OS X Mavericks, but how do i delete this upgrade?

The only way to go backwards is to erase your hard drive and reinstall the OS that you want to go back to.  The easiest way to do this would be to restore from a back-up that you, hopefully, made before the upgrade.  Don't have a back-up?  Then back up your files, first, so you can migrate them back once you've reinstalled the OS.

  • Can't update to FCPX 10.0.1

I bought FCPX 10.0 on day one.
Now I want to update to 10.0.1 - but the Mac App Store doesn't let me.
    1. It's not even listed as an update under "updates".
    2. When goin to the "purchased" list it says "Install", and when "Install" is clicked, App Store says it's already installed and cannot be updated and that I should use the Software Update instead.
    3. The 10.0.1 update doesn't show up in the Software Update either.
It's like Apple doesn't want me to use 10.0.1.
Btw, I'm running OS X 10.6.8, if it has anything to do with it..
    Anyone?

Sorry, I found more threads (and solutions) on this.
Re: I am unable to update to FCPX 10.0.1
Trash the app, then install again.

I have just updated to FCPX 10.1 but my new libraries do not contain any of my previous events or projects - any body know the answer?

Did you select the "update old events and projects"  option?
Are the originals on external hard drives that aren't connected at the moment?
Exactly how did you upgrade to 10.1?

  • Should I be concerned with losing existing data (projects or events) when updating from FCPX to FCPX 10.1?)

I purchased a Macbook Pro loaded with FCPX from a private party. I now want to update from FCPX to FCPX 10.1 should I be concered about losing my exhisting projects and events? The previous version of FCPX is registered to another person and wondered if this could potentially overwrite anything. I backed everything up to another drive but, just wondered if anyone has done this sucessfully?

The project files are put where FCP X wants to put them. If you render anything, it puts the rendering where it wants to put it.
FCP X has three opportunities to lose something - it can't find your project, it can't find the event, the event can't find the media. We see it on this forum all the time and right now 10.1 is managing all that and screwing it up for some people. We see FCP X updating events and projects...
With Motion 5, I put my project file where I want - in a folder for that project. In that same folder, I have all my media. It's not necessary to have a feature where it moves my files for me to another drive, etc. I simply drag that folder anywhere I want and all the links are in tact because the links are relative.
With FCP X, even if I don't copy the media to the events folder and leave it where I want, it still creates a folder with its own hierarchy - Backups, Old Versions, Original Media, Render Files, Transcoded Media...
FCP X's method opens people up to more problems, obviously. You don't see people on the Motion forum talking about how Motion moved media or put it in the trash etc. The only thing that can happen is the small XML project file can't find the media and so you simply relink and you can use Spotlight for that.
Seems like there are more headaches with FCP X's method.

  • Since updating my macbook air with OS X mavericks i can't send emails smtp account failed my email host is 123reg

since updating my macbook air with OS X mavericks i can't send emails smtp account failed my email host is 123reg any ideas how to sort it out?

I am having the same issue with Media Temple Email.
My problem in more detail is:
Adding my Media Temple Hosted domain email to a desktop service on my Macbook Air.
I have tried this on both Mac Mail and Thunderbird.
I add the account manually and have checked, double checked, triple checked the server addresss and also the user name and password and they are correct.
I have altered the ports from being default to custom and have tried both SSL and non SSL and still it is unable to connect to the SMTP server.
IMAP inbox is working as I recieve mails but can not send them.
I have chatted to Media Temple and they say it must be something to do with the hardware of the MacBook Air which to start with I disagreed with but I have since tried adding the email to my Mac Mini and it works fine.
I am assuming their is an issue in the MacBook Air with the SMTP ports and I would really appreciate some advice on how to fix this as I don't want to use Webmail for ever.
    Thanks in Advance

  • My Canoscan Lide 35 has been unresponsive since I have updated mac software to 10.9.1 Mavericks. Help please!

My Canoscan Lide 35 has been unresponsive since I have updated mac software to 10.9.1 Mavericks. I have reinstalled the correct drivers from the canon support page, this didn't work. I have just installed MP Navigator from the canon website as suggested by Apple and try to open it and get the message "The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install it and retry", even though I've just installed it! Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Hey, Clinton,
Thanks for your help!  I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video.  I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support.  They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded.  That didn't change anything.  In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge.  But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
         1.  Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
         2.  Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
         3.  Close iMovie 9
         4.  Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
         5.  File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events.  Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
         6.  Select the clips and import.  Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported.  Click continue import.  It's a little glitchy.  It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too.  On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy.  In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.
Hope this additional information helps somebody else.  Thanks again, Clinton for helping me!

  • FCPX never ending transcoding after Mavericks?

    Hello folks,
Saw some of the other threads about problems with FCPX and Mavericks.  Fortunately, everything has been fine for me... up to this point.  I didn't see this discussed yet so I figured I'd post my issue in it's own thread.
I've been trying to import some files (AVCHD) as usual for ongoing projects.  I copy the files and transcode them to optimized media.  Never had a problem before.  It seems to copy all the files fine, but seemingly never stops transcoding.  I've been trying to import two different projects... about 4-5 hours of footage each... and it's been two days now and the transcoding never ends!  Typically one such project takes about real time to import and transcode (4-5 hours, if not faster, never really timed it).  I'd begin an export in the morning and come back after lunch and it would always be done.
That is no longer the case it seems.
Has anyone else experience the same issue?  I just installed any and all updates available (nothing for FCPX however), restarted my computer and FCPX, and am trying again.  Hopefully the footage ingests fine this time.  But for the sake of losing more time and getting more frustrated, I'm hoping someone out there has a solution to this in the event the same problem persists for me.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Matt

    Hi Russ,
Thanks for taking the time to respond.  You've been extremely helpful in the past!   As an update... I started the import around 7pm last night (EST).  This morning, at 5am, it was still importing and transcoding... but it looked like it was at least working.  After restarting last night, I tried to import and transcode a single short clip before doing the full import and that was easily successful.
When I get to the import prompt, I only check off "Copy files to Final Cut Events folder" and "Create optimized media".   This workflow has been great for me.  I turn off background rendering and don't even render 2 hour long projects with heavily edited footage before exporting to m4v master files (which turn out just fine without the rendering).  That's beside the point though.
Back on track, when I open the Background Tasks, of course the transcoding is going.  The Importing Media is stuck on 99%.  Not sure if that's normal or not... never really paid attention to that in the past.   The Rendering says it's creating audio waveforms.  Again, not sure if that's normal or not.
In Activity Monitor, I might have found a problem.  It seems FCPX is only using around 0.5% of CPU during the import.  No other program is running really except for Activity Monitor, which would leapfrog FCPX in how much of the CPU it's using at time.  At the bottom, it says my computer is around 98-99% idle!  That all raises an eyebrow to say the least.  I'm not a computer whiz when it comes to the technical aspect of how my system might be performing and I have admittedly not tried an import on another machine yet (I have three iMac's).  So it may just be an issue with this one machine.
It's a 2011 model year running a 2.93 quad, i7.  At least I'm pretty sure of that.  I'm on a corporate event now typing away from another one of my iMac's and won't even know if the import and transcoding back at home is successful until I get back in tonight around 6:30 or so.
Even if it is, there's definitely something going on with how long it's taking.  What's typically a 4-5 hour process (est) was still ingesting 10 hours later.

  • HT6400 What do I need to do/get to update from Leopard (10.5.8) to Mavericks (10.9.5)

I forgot to do the Snow Leopard update and now I can't find that update so that I can ultimately update to Mavericks. How can I get the Snow Leopard update on my iMac? I have a 2GHz Intel core 2 Duo, and 1 GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

    Hi,
I had this issue on my MBP and also still have it on my 2013 iMAC 27".  Log files were sent to Apple as I am working with a Sr Advisor on this issue.  The MBP seemed to have corrected the issue and installed 10.9.5 as a result of my having to reinstall the OS due to another error in SAFE MODE that comes up as "Unapproved Caller"  I also had the same error on my iMAC in safe mode whereas that error will not allow you to reboot so Apple had me reinstall the OS on the iMAC as well.  When it did (before I did the reinstall on the MBP), it only installed 10.9.4  I think the very next day Apple put 0.9.5 on the server thus the MBP uploading 10.9.5
Caveat that Apple is looking into:
    1)  The Safe mode issue
    2)  Permission(513) error when trying to load 10.9.5 on my iMAC
    3) itunes lost 50% of my Album art.  No I am not going to right click every album lost (650 of them) as it takes too long.  I did however try a select all and it went throughout eh motions of downloading art for 1215 albums, but in the end the message stated not all artwork could be loaded.  When i looked at the detail it showed about 650 LP artwork not load that I now I ad before iTUNES  11.4
    4)  Apple not looking into it (not Apple SW), but you may also have a problem with Adobe PS or Acrobat Pro in that a window comes up when trying to launch the application that says License is no longer working for this product (might be a bit paraphrased).  This I fixed with the help of online Acrobat chat and also them doing a screen share to fix it.  Caveat:  If you have this issue the chat person might just send you a link.  The current link however only goes up to OS 10.7, but the rest of the instructions are what the screen share person did.  It took a long time to get this nailed down.
Tomorrow I have a scheduled call with Apple for items 1,2 and 3 above.  If successful, I will try to come back and detail what was found out.
    Joel
