Updating to iOS 4.0 --- Stuck on 'Restoring iPhone firmware'

So basically, I was updating my phone to iOS 4.0 and all was going smoothly until now. It has been stuck on "Restoring iPhone firmware..." for the past hour and a half. My phone had turned off and I searched around and was told to turn it back on again, but still nothing has happened. My phone says plug into iTunes, but it already is. Can anyone help me?

alright guys i just got mine to work. im on a mac, i signed into a different user name, i downloaded a fresh copy of itunes from apple, and it all worked.
dont use the copy of itunes that automatically updated from itunes. REDOWNLOAD a copy from apple. i think that was the issue.
steps for working
1. restart computer
2. log into a new user name/ or try your normal one, new user name worked for me
3. download fresh itunes 9.2 from APPLE.

  • IPhone 5 Restore Stuck on "Restoring iPhone Firmware" (iOS8)

    I just cannot believe this.
My cellular data completely messed up, while I was using it. It gave me "Searching..." even when I removed the SIM card.
Then I finally decided to restore the iOS8, and it stuck on "Restoring iPhone Firmware", then iTunes got error "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (9).".
I had every single iPhone model and this is the first time that it gave me that kind of serious problem.
I've tried everything, and it just doesn't start working.
Then, finally, I've found that ALOT of users are reporting the problem.
I hope anyone here to have a solution, and soon Apple to release working update.
P.S. I'm using both Macbook Air and Windows Notebook.

I was restoring and updating my Iphone 5 to IOS 7.0,6 and during the process after completing more than 50% of the process my phone is stuck at "Restoring Iphone Firmware".  Please Help.

    Hello nishit.kadia,
It sounds like your phone became unresponsive when you attempted a restore of the device. Try resetting your device with this process:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
From: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
I would try putting the device in to recovery mode, and attempting the restore again:

  • Stuck on "restoring iPhone firmware" trying to upgrade to iOS7

    Hey there,
I've been having a lot of trouble updating my iPhone. After finally thinking I'm getting somewhere I keep getting frozen on the same spot. My phone gets to "restoring iPhone firmware" and then freezes up. It's done this several times now, and more than once I've left it over an hour.
On my phone, I have the progress bar but it's frozen. On iTunes, I have the message and the flashing bar but nothing else.
I've tried rebooting, resetting the device, running a command prompt - no luck. Meanwhile, my phone is unusable. It just tells me to connect to iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Iphone 5 Stuck at Restoring Iphone firmware

I did an update on my 5, but i was using as my internet on laptop. it crashed and itunes is doing recovery on it but stuck at restoring firmware. Any ideas as to how to get phone working again?

Take a look at this link, http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/restore/

  • Just updated to ios 7.0.3 on my iphone 4 now says i need to restore

i just updated to ios 7.0.3 on my iphone 4.  Now it is forcing me to restore to factory settings.  Will I lose my contacts?

Yes iMessage was barely working before (resetting network settings is what got it sort of working), but after 7.0.3, it's more broken than ever. I can't send ANY texts to iMessage users, even if iMessage is shut off. I tried resetting, I also tried resetting network settings again, but nothing has helped. It won't let me activate it.
FindMyFriends keeps giving me a prompt to connect to iTunes. And no matter how many time i click OK, it just keeps popping up. I have to try to click my way out of it faster than the prompt appears, or i just get stuck in an endless loop. And with how slow iOS 7 is on an iPhone 4, it's a bit if a challenge.
This is the first time I'm actually ready to start looking at other phones, these problem have been BEYOND frustrating.

  • Update to iOS 5.1 causes iPhone to crash on "Restoring iPhone Firmware"

    Hello everyone.
I have been vry please with my iPhone 4 on Verizon for the last 6 months.  I was on iOS 5 which worked great.  Then this morning the AppStore icon had the familiar red circle indicating some apps had updates available.  I clicked Update All.  In there was an update for iOS5.1.  I clicked OK.
I gave me the usual License agreement etc… I clicked OK.
A few minutes later I looked at it and it showed a picture of a cable with an arrow towards an iTunes icon.  SO I plugged it to my computer and it launched iTunes.
iTunes tells me that my iPhone is in Recovery mode and I need to Restore.  Why is it in Recovery mode???  All I did was I clicked OK for software update!
I have no other choice but to click Restore.  It asks if I want to Restore and Update.  I click OK.
I downloads the software (25 minutes worth!!!) then goes through the motions.
    - Restoring iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone Restore
    - Restoring iPhone firmware.
After it sits on that Restoring firmware with a striped bar for about 30 seconds, all of a sudden, a new window pops up and says "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (1)."
iMac 2.4G 24inch .  OS 10.6.8  All my software is up to date as of this morning.  That includes the most recent iTunes.
Nothing else is plugged in the USB ports.
    I have restarted the computer.
No third party firmware.  No illegal mods.  No jailbreaking or anything, all on the up and up.
I have called Apple tech support but was put on hold for 30 minutes and finally had to go to work.
I have done a search on this and other boards but could not find a solution.  Would anyone have any suggestion?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bo

    UPDATE:
I tried about 6 or 7 times with no luck.  Maybe trying even more would have worked as Milis and some others have said.  But I ran out of patience.
So I called Apple tech support.  After a few minutes a woman answered, I explained the problem, she said that since it was out of warranty, it would cost $29 for a one time incident.  I said that since I did not initiate this problem I did not think I should have to pay for anything.  Then she put me on hold, and evidently sent me to the slow cue.  I waited for about 20 or so minutes and another woman answered.  She was very friendly and tried to be helpful but this was clearly out of her league so she transferred me to a specialist.  A very friendly british sounding woman came on and really wanted to get to the bottom of this.  She did a remote access to my computer so she could see the contents of the log files.  After a while, she determined that it could not be repaired.  She told me the phone had to be replaced.
So she filled out a request to that effect, gave me the location of the nearest Apple store and made an appointment for me.  I went there during lunch and they replaced my phone with a new (or new looking at least) unit.  They set it up and now everything is fine.  It is still on iOS5 but I really don't have any pressing need for iOS5.1 so, given this previous experience, I'm going to stay with 5 for a while.
Bottom line is that this was a real pain and huge waste of time.  But Apple support did come through without any trouble (apart from the waiting on hold) and got things fixed and working again.  The people I talked to did not have any idea of what might have caused this.  But one thing I was remember is this:  Usually I always do iOS updates through iTunes with the iPhone connected to the computer.  This was the first time that the update was started with the phone unconnected because it came about through the "Updates" panel of the phone's AppStore icon.  I'm not sure why this would cause the firmware update to go south but that is the only thing I can think of.
At the end of the day, I think I have to put that in the "You want cutting edge technology? well it's going to work most of the time but every now and then there will be the inevitable pothole" column.
