Updating to ios 5 on a 3gs results in error -50.

it will not restore from back up and all contact info missing from windows contacts folder. any ideas?
tried restarting phone and computer same error -50 everytime.

Did you manage to get it fixed?  I'm having the same problem on my boss' 3GS. I used iPhone Backup Finder tool to locate all of my backups on our machine. Of course it didn't find his phone which was backup up prior to updating (which means it should've backed up twice seeing it does it again during an update). The tool found 3 other backups which show no info and look different than the others. This also makes sense because this is the 3rd phone in a row that updated from this machine which lost the backups. He do I manually use those files, or try to, to restore from backup in iTunes?

I'M TRYING TO UPDATE TO IOS 6 BUT I KEEP GETTING ERROR MESSAGE sOFTWARE UPDATE fAILED: AN ERROR OCCURRED DOWNLOADING IOS 6

I Tried for three days to download iOS 6 and kept getting error 1403. I finally went to the apple store and they couldn't figure it out either.
I finally got it to download and all I did different from the other 100 times was I went into settings and on the Bluetooth setting I put NO.  Not sure if that's what did it but that was the only thing different that I did.

  • Since updating to iOS 6 my 3GS will not work

I recently updated to iOS 6 on my iphone 3GS, For a few days it has been fine, but today it started stating that I have 'No Service', which is strange. It then turned off when it got to 50% battery, and saying I needed to charge it.
When I returned home, I plugged it in to charge, it said I needed to 'set up' iOS 6, which I had done when I updated it, but I went along with it, it said to plug into itunes, which I did, told me to update, which I did.
When it finished updating it said it had found an unexpected error and I needed to restore my phone, once again, I went along with it, began restoring it, when it had finished restoring, A pop-up in itunes stated that the restore had failed and I needed to do it again. I have now 'restored' it 4 times to no avail.
It is very unconvinient to not be able to use my phone as this time, please help. Thankyou in advance.

  • HT1414 If I Restore my iPod Touch, will I be able to restore to a backup afterwards (in the process of updating to iOS 5 in the event of error code -43)

I have just got ready to sync to a new computer (my old one got restored and all backups were lost ) and update to iOS 5.
I finally manage to recreate my old iTunes library on my new computer and transfer my purchases, sync my iPod an dback it up.
With all that done, I go on to update to iOS 5... But low and behold I get error code -43 "An error occurred while backing up this iPod-43 Would you like to continue to updte this iPod? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod"
I have seen this solution to the problem on another section of the forum:

This solved my questionRe: iOS Update error  -43
I restored my phone to original setting. (backed up before I did this)
It then installed iOS 5 automatically, and then I got the option to set up as a new phone or use last back up...so didn't lose anything.----
I have backed up my iPod touch, and am ready to restore, but amm worried that if I do restore, I won't be able to restore back to my backup afterwards, this will mean losing some data. I just need confirmation that I will be able to get "the option to set up as a new phone or use last back up," as i really don't want to restore and find myself with an empty iPod.
If it possible to do this, please coudl someone post a step-by-step guide on how to update using the afformentioned method, just to give me (and many others) peace of mind.

When you restore an iOS device the IOS version that will be on the iPod after the restore is the latest available for that model device. For the 4G iPod that would be 6.1.6

  • Software update to ios 6.1.3 downloaded contain error.

Hi my iphone 4 is currently with ios 5.1 and I try to update to ios 6.1.3 recently.
But it shows that update contain error. How should I resolved this issue?

First you want to back up your Phone first in case you lose any data. Here is a guide to back up via icloud or iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now in terms of updating your phone you want to make sure you are trying to update with WiFi as you CANNOT update from your phone itself with 3G
    Reset Network Settings
    - go to setings>reset
    - select reset network settings then press reset
If you are still unable to update from the phone itself then you would need to try updating with iTunes on a PC/Mac.
Heres is how to update your iPhones iOS with iTunes on a PC/Mac:

    Hope this helps:)

  • Updating to iOS 5 on 3gs caused poor wifi reception

Before iOS5 on my 3GS, wifi was working fine. Now I can't connect to my wifi unless I am in the same room as the router. My wife's iPhone 4 is not having the same issues. Tried "Reset Network Settings" and "Erase All Settings..." but still very bad reception. Now trying a restore without restoring backup to see if that resolves the issue. Just wanted to see if anyone else with a 3GS is having the same issue.

I'm noticing the same thing but I also have terrible wifi issues in my home, even with the addition of the mini tower...AT&T is a joke...

Please post in the developers forum. iOS 5 is unreleased Beta software and is not to be discussed here.

  • Trying to update to iOS 7.0.6 keep getting "Error Occurred" message.

I am tying to upgrade to iOS 7.0.6 on an iPhone 4. The device begins the download and install but then stops when the progress bar gets to 100% and it produces a message that says "An error occurred". No additional information is provided. There is 2.2 GB of free space on the iPhone 4 so that is not an issue.

Just keep trying; the servers are probably being overwhelmed with requests for the update.

If the update is not working from the iPad over wireless have you tried to update the ipad via iTunes. Here are the steps for both ways of updating your iPad http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623

  • My ipod wont update to ios 5 i keep getting an error code of 1603 or 1604

I have an 8gb 4th gen ipod touch.

Hi, yeah, this bit me hard too yesterday evening - spent a couple of hours playing around! Got everything as up to date as possible, up graded to latest iPhoto to benefit from photo streaming, installed iCloud and made sure everyhting was ticketty boo before trying to download and install iOS5. Two error codes later, toubleshot both identified issues and it was still crashing very end of process.
In the end it bricked and I had to completely restore the iPod touch from factory settings,  using back up - took quite some time and guess what?! Patience rewarded, backed up iPod now runing iOS5. The thing installed itself once I reverted to factory settings. Dunno why, but yeah, it was the most glitchy apple experience I've had. Still nowhere near as glitchy as Windoze can be however.
Downloading was also a pain, several attempts timed out, where it was showing a download estimated time of five hours at one point! Guess there's a lot of us jumping on the bandwaggon
