Updating to java 1.5.0_11 on netbeans

I'm currently using NetBeans IDE 5.0 which is running java 1.4.2_11. In order to use the scanner class I need to update to version 1.5....can anyone post instructions on how to do this without reinstalling netbeans? thank you

After installing java, in netbeans, try doing "tools" "platform". Then add your new java platform.

I don't know what test you are looking at. You have Java 1.6.0_11, which has known security issues; the current version is 1.6.0_21. For updating see below.
You need to update your plugins. It is important to keep them updated due to continuing security fixes and improvements in those plug-ins:
    * Macromedia Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.0
    * Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape (you '''<u>MAY</u>''' need to update)

  • HT5648 The App store wants me to update to Java 1.6.0_41 -- but I already have the latest Java 1.7 ver. downloaded from Oracle.

How do I remove the Java 1.6.0_41 update from App Store updates list without actually installing it? I don't want to revert to an older Java than what I got from Oracle just a week ago (Java "1.7.0_11").
PS, I thought Apple was no longer doing its own Java version anymore and that maintenance for Java for Mac was now in Oracle's hands. What gives?

You should not ignore it as that will leave you with an unsafe version of Java SE 6 integrated into your system. If you shoud ever need to revert from Java 7 to Java 6 (which many users have found necessary for compatibility reasons) that would leave you open to attack. It's very difficult to remove Java 6 so you might as well keep it up-to-date.
I thought Apple was no longer doing its own Java version anymore and that maintenance for Java for Mac was now in Oracle's hands. What gives?
The agreement was that Apple would continue to update Java 6 and Oracle would take over at Java 7.  Both can exist on your computer, though in general, only one will be active at any given time.  Oracle's public support for Java 6 ends this month and without it Apple will be hard pressed to continue after that date, but we'll all just have to wait and see how that goes.

  • On YouTube, I can't play playlists there. It says I need to update my Java and it is updated already. When I go to different sites like Yahoo! the links and images are all distorted. This is the second time this has happened to me now

    Hello Firefox,
I am having problems with my Firefox's image processor I believe. My web browser is fine but then a few minutes later I get some weird look on my page. It then just stays here and I can't fix it. When I go to Yahoo all the links and images do not look normal. I really cannot explain this and wish I could send a picture instead. When I go to the Log in page for Facebook I do not see the image of the small faces networking around the world. It's blank and the links are widely spread apart. With YouTube the page is also distorted. Nothing is arranged properly. I can watch videos. However when I go to someone's profile or a playlist videos cannot play or show up. It says I need to update my Java player and it is already updated. It still happens when I uninstall and re install back. I was only able to fix this problem by uninstalling everything related to Firefox. I do not know how to solve this any other way. I don't like it when all my information is lost such as saved passwords and bookmarks. If there is any way to solve this thanks. I don't want to uninstall this again.

Your above posted list of installed plugins doesn't show the Flash plugin for Firefox.<br />

  • I just ran a software update for Java and MacBook Pro SMC, now my Mini Display Port to HDMI TV is not working. The TV is flickering. The Mac Display is fine.

I was just watching / streaming TV off Safari on my actual TV.
I'm using a Mini-Display Port to HDMI cable for the connection to the external display.
Software update popped-up and said there was an update for Java and for SMC.
I ran the update and upon the computer restarting, my external display (my TV) is no longer working. It is now flickering.
It won't work in Mirroring or set up as an extended display.
I've reset SMC / PRAM / Safe Mode / Even restored from a Time Machine backup (From before the updates were done).
    What could it be?!

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

    Hi,
We have an application that is launched via Webstart.  Last year, we had to make a bunch of changes to the application in order to work with Java 7 Update 45.  It has been working fine up to and including Java 7 Update 67.  However, it is no failing with Java 7 Update 71 and 72.  Upon launch it is giving the error below. I have searched online and found other articles related to the AccessControlException but they are about 7 years old.  I also tried adding this to the java.policy file with no luck.  Any ideas or help would be appreciated to determine what I can do to get this to work for update 71.

Java will no longer run on my MacBook pro since I updated my java - what the heck is with that? When I try to do as suggested and go under Java preferences it wont allow me make any changes this is the error message I get "Cannot launch "java preference" no compatible version of Java 1.5 + is available."
Then it gives the option to open java preferences or quit. It will only allow me to quit as it won't open java preferences. Stupid updates!

  • I'm running 10.5.8 on a MacBook Pro and need to update to Java 7 in order to take a software assessment test for a potential job. The Java app will only upgrade from 10.6 or higher. What can I do?

I'm running 10.5.8 on a MacBook Pro and need to update to Java 7 to take software assessment tests online for a potential job. What can I do?

Apple Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 10
Apple Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 17
    Apple Java 2013-005
I would suggest you upgrade your computer's OS minimally to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Sun Java System Application Server  into Netbean 6.1

Hi , I am new to Java community,
I like to lean J2EE so I downloaded
    jdk-1_5_0_16-windows-i586-p and installed
    then I installed
    java-tools-bundle-update5-windows
I am trying to do the initial setup and do the sample
    The Java EE 5 Tutorial
See this tutorial for information on building and deploying Java EE 5 applications.
When I try to register the Sun Java System Application Server into Netbean 6.1
I could not I have warning, says
Provide a valid server installation location
    But I gave, C:\Sun\AppServer
If you guys can give any light on this appreciated

It doesn't sound like you have installed a Java EE (formerly J2EE) application server. Your download of "jdk-1_5_0_16-windows-i586-p" is Java Standard Edition, which you need, but you also need an implementation of Java Enterprise Edition. The [Sun Java System Application Server|http://developers.sun.com/appserver/] is certainly a valid Java EE implementation, but I don't see in your steps where you downloaded that. There are several types of NetBeans downloads ("bundles") you can perform and I believe that one or more bundles (such as "All" and "Web & Java EE") includes GlassFish as part of the download. I recommend using the GlassFish Java EE implementation that comes with NetBeans 6.1 for learning how to use Java EE with NetBeans. Alternatively, you can download GlassFish separately at [https://glassfish.dev.java.net/|https://glassfish.dev.java.net/].

  • Enabling Silent Auto-update in Java 7.45 as a non-local administrator user, enterprise best practices?

So I have been looking through forums, java help, and everywhere possible for more insight on java in an enterprise environment. What I have found so
far is that there is no actual way to enable auto updates to install as a non-local admin user.
I know you can turn on and off updates My company wants to install java JRE as a silent-autoupdate "always update" kind of installation, but all my users are domain users, without admin rights. When it finds an update - it prompts for credentials and obviously they are denied. Is this even possible?  If it is not possible to "auto-update" non local admins, I can make the case to management that java releases need to be QA'd and controlled releases. My environment is adminstudio/installshield and SCCM. I know auto-installing updates to java without QA per version , in a enterprise environment, is not good practice, but its not my decision right now.
    thank you very much!

Hi and thank you very much for responding!
I'd be interested in further answers:
Our company is developing unsigned applets ...Why?Sufficient functionality. We dont want to e. g. access the customers local file system, we just wanted to use the applet as viewer sending data to and from the server where the applet was loaded from. Nothing else.
    1. What is the idea to show messages for unsigned applets running in a secure sandbox.. why when running in a sandbox, and why not also for potentially more dangerous signed applets? With a signed applet you know who is taking the responsibility. With unsigned applets, I rely on the sandbox responsibility. I actually couldn't do anything dangerous by accident.
With signed applets, I'm fully responsible that nothing bad happens to the clients data. Preventing this is the main task for the java sandbox, so why not use it?
Just to clarify: Is it right that each signed applet has full access rights?
    3. Is there any recommended strategy to sign an applet to work across browsers, platforms, JRE versions?Err, sign it?Does the signing scheme matter? According to http://mindprod.com/jgloss/signedapplets.html, there are lots of...
Could you recommend a good tutorial? I'm an absolute beginner concerning signing of applets.
    4. Are there negative side-effects to sign an applet?Only that it forces you to sign all its components. Not sure what this question means. What about loading time and jar filesize?
Does JarIndex work with multiple signed modular applet jars?
Must javascript code also be signed to talk to signed applets?
Is a client able to see a signed applet a) without see or interact with a confirmation window and b) without doing any prerequisites (like adding certificates or similar)?
    Thanks, Peter

  • HT1338 i can't update my java

i tried to updat my java software but i cant. i have already pressed the apple icon then software upadate but it poped out said your software is up to date, so what can i do to update my java???

You should be able to upgrade to OS X Mavericks (10.9.1). If you want OS X Lion (10.7.5) or Mountain Lion (10.8.5), you will need to call Apple Sales/Support and purchase it.
Have you gone to the App Store and tried to download/install Mavericks?
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

  • I did software update, now java in Safari doesn't work.

I ran software update, now Java in Safari and Firefox doesn't work. How do I fix it?

    I already tried that.
    I am running OS 10.6.8.
I did a "normal" software update (under the Apple icon).. didn't update the OS to a higher level, it's still 10.6.8. But now certain websites tell me that Java is missing or not working. When I go to the Java site, they say that you can only download the newest Java for OS 7 or higher... that Java is automatically part of OS 6 and should have automatically updated when I do a Mac software update.
Java used to work. Now that I've "updated" my Mac software, it doesn't work. And there's no way to download and install Java (according to them).
It's a never ending circle with no solution.

I believe that this is due to some incompatibility with the latest update of Java. I believe that one of the tabs from my previous session included a Java application, and this is causing the difficulty. In recent days, since the last update of Java, I have had difficulty in loading linked pages with Java applications into Firefox, and have needed to switch to a different browser to do this.
Now I cannot even start the browser, presumably due to the presence of a Java application on one of the restored tabs.
When I now try to start Firefox, my ZoneAlarm security s/w presents the message "Java(TM) Quick Starter binary is trying to access the Internet." I click "Allow", but Firefox will not start. If I click "Deny", the same result. The same thing happens when I try to start Firefox in Safe Mode, I cannot even start Firefox in Safe mode.

    Every time Firefox opened
== after recent update of Java

You can try to disable the Java Quick starter and the Java Console extension in the Control Panel > Java.
Control Panel > Java > Advanced tab > Miscellaneous >Java Quick Starter (disable)
You can also disable the Java plugin in Firefox: Tools > Add-ons > Plugins
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

I was able to get to a support person who helped me fix this without charge. I guess it was my bad for not trying the right way to access support.
    Anyway, they answer is this.
I had to create a new account on my computer. When I logged into the new account it immediately wanted an AppleID. I used my daughter's e-mail address for the AppleID. This setup the internet accounts correctly with her iCloud.com e-mail address. I was then able to access e-mail in both the browser and Mail. Not that complicated but nothing that I would have easily thought up on my own.
    Thank Apple Support!
