Updating to 'Photos' problems

I was having problems with iPhoto to begin with (2015.04.13 - no idea what the version is since they've deleted it). When I would open up the main album the thumbnail would say 'X thousands of photos' then when I opened the album it would say 'No photos' or the like. Troubling but the iCloud showed them still.
Updated my software like a good user and now I have no idea where the last 10 years worth of photos have gone. Presumably they are on the cloud, however Photos will only show whatever is on the iPhone for import.
Tried to navigate the Support Community help area. Have no idea where to go. Much like all of my Mac experiences I am lost, confused, and have no course of action except to write in this little box.

Your camera roll photos are supposed to come back if they were on the phone when the back up was made.

You must remember that there could possibly be more than one back up on iTunes. So make sure you a restoring from the correct back up.

After iPhoto update some photos go black when trying to edit them and am unable to edit those photos. How do I fix this as this is the latest update?

If I hold down the Option key while launching iPhoto, I get the option to start a new library. Do I have to import all my thousands of photos into the new library?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. *Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. *Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. *A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. *A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. *A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
*If none of these help*:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Updated I-Photo'11 9.2

I have the Lion OS. I updated i-photo'11 9.2 today. I am now unable to import photos to i-photo. It crashes every time. I have never had this problem before. The good news is the problems with i-photo and Photosop Elements appears to have been resolved with the Lion OS update 10.7.2
Anyone else having problems with i-Photo '11 update and importing files?

Well first off,make a back up, then you won't lose your Pictures.
Another test:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Firmware 1.1.3 - Photos problem/question

I downloaded the 1.1.3 photos + january software update with no problems at all. I have my mac set up to auto sync all music and photos. Have noticed today that the Photos on my Itouch are no longer categorised by Album. The groupings are simply Photo Library, Last 12 months and Last Import. Previously i had all the photos categorised into albums.
Any thoughts please?

I have the same issue, only I'm using a PC Win-xp and Photoshop Elements. Itunes ignores the albums (2k+ photos) and only sees 15 pics. That's all it will sync with the Touch, unless I select other directories and then it's one big mess.

Why can't i update my photos in iTunes?

Ever since I updated to the latest iTunes software and iPhone OS, I can't update any photos taken past the install. iPhoto is working fine, but I can't sync up any devices with any photos taken after I installed the updates. Any idea what could be causing this?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Photos not syncing between Mac and iPhone since update to Photos on Mac.

Ever since I updated to Photos on my Late 2013 macbook pro retina, photos are not syncing between it and my iPhone 6. Both are updated to the most recent software update. Photo stream is on. Does anyone have this problem or know a solution?

You will have to go the the Photos tab in iTunes when you connect the iPhone. Then reset the photo sync options. They were reset with the upgrade to use iCloud by default, but you can change the settings back to sync folders, just like before.

Hi, whilst on holiday my iPhone automatically updated my photo album and duplicated all the pictures. I deleted the duplicate pictures now when I click on the photo it's just a black screen. Any ideas how I can restore my photos?

The only way to lose content on the device is restore as "new" from iTunes or "Erase All Content and Settings" from the device.
Start by resetting or restarting the device to see if that rectifies the problem.

Sounds like your phone was hacked to use with your carrier. Updating it has relocked the phone to it's original carrier. You will not get the phone working again without a SIM from the original carrier.

I updated the photos that share with Apple TV but old photos display during music

I updated the photo file that shares with Apple TV, and they display correctly when I play the slide show, but when they play slideshow with music playing it's the old photo file. How do I get the new photos to display during music? Thanks

Not sure what you are trying to do, but the photo is just cached. You might try restarting ATV and see if that will foruce a cache relaod.
What is it you did? Did you update an image, cover art, photo stream? It could also be that what ever you updated it not what is being displayed. For instacne if you updated something in iPhoto, but are pointing to Photostream that will not have an effect. Same problme if you are looking at cover art while the music is playing.

I would like to be able to update my photo collection dynamically

I have a photo album that goes through a sequence of same
sized photos. However when I want to change the photos I always
have to go into flash and change stuff which is time consuming. I
would like to be able to update my photo collection dynamically by
just changing the files in the folder in my computer called images.
The .swf file would respond to this by showing the new sequence of
files in this folder. This would save me much time.

you can use an XML file to grab the images, and flash can
parse them out and display them, then when you want to make a
change, you could either rename the photo the same as the old one,
or update the XML file.

Java 6 you can't as Apple maintains it, and Java 7 you could if you uninstall it and Oracle provides the earlier version which they likely won't his last update fixed 37 remote exploits.
Java broken some software here and there, all you'll have to do is wait for a update from the other parties.
