Updating to PR1.1.1

Update available via App Manager (3.2010.02-8.203.1)
50MB free rootfs.
Testing and Devel catalogues disabled.
Prompts to update via NSU but NSU states phone is up to date (51.1)
App Manager log is empty and I have the 203 (UK) variant.
Not overly bothered as it's only a minor update but I suspect it may be necessary once PR1.2 comes along!?

From the little experience I've had of this problem, it seems to be because a package on the phone is screwed up and half installed..this seems to stop the phone from being able to install big updates..
I might be able to help you fix this problem, it seems to have worked in the past.. but getting the info out is a bit tricky.. How comfortable are you using the x terminal?
If not very, you can try this (relatively) easy test:
Open this link on your phone:
http://chris.intrepid.cx/N900/debug2.sh
Save the file in the documents folder on your phone
Open an x terminal and type this command exactly:
sh MyDocs/.documents/debug2.sh
When it finishes (it will take an age!!) you'll find there is a file on your device called debug2.txt.. If you can pull that file off and post it here as an attachment, or email it to me, I'll have a look through and see if I can spot something that might be causing the problem..

  • N8 update to PR1.2 014.002 22/3/2011

Anyone received this and worked out out what issues it's meant to resolve. I received the update 9 hrs ago and my n8 has locked up 3 times since. Tried restarting again but still freezing. Might have to hard reset (again)
    Nokia N8 Product Code 0598980

PR 1.2 is still not available worldwide. Even here in the Philippines it's not or mostly say they don't have it.
My N8 has PR 1.2 (014.002) sim free-Singapore code 0599243-Sent to me by Nokia Philippines.
My friend has an N8-lock to SMART Communications Network. But still stuck with PR 1.0-and no update yet.
I read some your posts guys--TV out working fine for me. OVI store-updated-(even if I do a hard reset delete/restore. After that, if you launch OVI Store-the browser will open and will prompt you download or update it. I signed in successfully.
About freezing, yes a little bit, lag sometimes, I installed a lot of apps, loaded a bunch of stuff to the mass memory-it'll take someyimes to respond-maybe that's one of the reasons why it's acting like that..
OVI maps working fine, prior to delete and restore- I did install OVI maps from BetaLAbs, but I didn't like it, so I decide not to now.  was able to sign in as well.
Some of you guys amy experience problems with OVI Store and Social installation, launching or updating it after a hard reset. Check this link about QT requirement before installing/updating. http://www.forum.nokia.com/Develop/Qt/Getting_started/Step_3.xhtml
It help me a lot when Nokia London sent me a 14 day trial of Nokia N8, cause I notice that the version of my OVI Store and Social is different from my  friends'. It helped me a lot to update the apps before returning the device to them.
But after getting a Nokia N8 (Nokia/Womworld london hidden N8-bindary code competition) , I've known what to do if I encounter a problem with the device.

  • N9 AFTER FIRMWARE PR1.1 UPDATE

Hi guys, would anyone of you out there want to share with me your experience after your N9 has been updated with PR1.1? (As of now PR1.1 is still not available in Malaysia) Like is it now a better phone than before? I'm still emotionally attached with this phone even though I have sold mine just before the PR1.1 was released. Guess I pulled the trigger prematurely. My biggest complain is the small default Font size & I have been told that with the PR1.1 update the Font size is somewhat bigger now. Blame it on my aging eyes - LOL! I'm seriously contemplating getting another N9. The hardware is just awesome & out of this world. Cheers mate & hope to hear from you guys soon.

I will have to second overlord above on this one. I have set uo two mail accounts which works just as it should.
I have noticed that the phone multitasks better and that my wifi signal and performance has improved - not much but enough.
For some reason I believe that the volume on ringtone has gotten a bit louder with PR.1.1 along with volume during call, but it might not be at all.
All in all very happy with the update and looking forward to the next one. Meantime I will enjoy this piece of perfection

Hi Ebalaf, can't help you I'm afraid but to say there seems to be a few inconsistoncies with this latest release of 1.3. Maybe people have been installing dodgy software? N9 should be clean of all **bleep**. It's a clever os and would not suffer fools gladly! I am in the UK and have yet to get the fabled 1.3 update. However, what is it anyway? As long as we have the basic ingredients, who cares? Flash it or re install.

  • Gallery zoom problem N8 since PR1.1

I wondered if anyone else has had this....
since 'upgrading' to PR1.1 intermittently, but often the gallery does not zoom correctly.
when i zoom previoulsy it would zoom in the current image in low quality then a couple of seconds later it would paint in the detail....
this painting the detail stage often does not happen and i have to reboot, which often doesn't fix it and i have to reboot again.
sometimes after a reboot, when i open the gallery it will say 'refreshing your media' - anyone else have this - or an idea for a better workaround... how about deleteing all the _PAlbTN directories? where is the gallery database?
There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.

there could well be a third element to this...
it could be updating to pr1.1 after you have installed bubbles. nokia battery monitor has been giving me hassle too.
but my googling lead me to a bug report on beta labs, it had no other supporters, but uninstalling bubbles removed the problem immediately. not even a reboot required.
bubbles installs all kind of beta versions of all sorts of libraries that are used by all sorts of phone apps. it's a bit cheeky really whilst i understand that a beta is exactly that. this app does appear to have the potential to mess up everything rather than just itself. check this out for a 'known issue' - Installing Bubbles will also install a beta version of Qt 4.7.1 which may cause the Ovi Store client or other Qt-based applications to fail.

  • So...why do some installed apps stop the PR1.2 upd...

I read the long PR1.2 thread when I started having trouble trying to get PR1.2 to load on my machine : OTA wouldn't work ("update must be run thru a PC link") and PC-connected upgrade got half way through and crashed repeatedly, thankfully without turning my N900 into a paperweight.
The long PR1.2 thread contains various bits of personalised help from cpitchford advising individuals to uninstall various games and other apps from their phones.  Then voila! the PR1.2 upgrade works.  In one of those posts I read that Tuxdriver (or some such sillily named game) was a problem, so I uninstalled that lousy app from my N900 and my OTA upload was suddenly enabled and it installed.  I now run PR1.2 on my N900. :-)
I am left puzzled though.  How can the N900 (or rather Nokia) allow a software app to accidentally mess up the operating system so badly that upgrades give misleading messages (or no messages) and fail to install?  How come so many apps cause this problem?  Why doesn't Nokia publish this information or get the update processes to report which apps are causing the problems?  There must be thousands of N900 users who can't update to PR1.2, get no meaningful error message at all,  don't read the board here, and so don't know that one of their installed games is the cause of the problem.  This all seems so amateurish on Nokia's behalf, to me at least.
cpitchford could you explain the reason why / how some installed games stops PR1.2 installing.  I'm curious.
    Thanks
    H

    hey hey!!
Ok its not Nokia's fault.. or at least I don't think it is.. not totally convinced but here goes.
DPKG the packaging system works on dependencies.. a package can only be installed if its dependency packages are install already..
apt is a tool to do this resolution for you.. when you want blah installed it makes sure all of blahs dependencies are installed first.. and infact it makes sure that the dependencies of blah's dependencies are install and so on.. Generally it is pretty good..
Now in its simplest form, dependencies just specify a package name
    blah requires moo
Easy.. any version of moo must be installed before blah can be installed..
But dpkg lets you get more creative and specify versions too.. so for example
    blah requires moo (>> 1.5)
means that blah requires at least version 1.5 of moo before it can be installed..
BUT!!!!!! it can also specify an exact package version
    blah requires moo (=1.5)
So.. what happens if I later try to install moo version 1.6? I can't.. apt won't let me because it would break blah.. (if you're following up to this point.. grand!)
Lets look at a particular problem.. gltron
    gltron requires libgles1
    libgles1 requires libgles1-sgx-img
    libgles1-sgx-img requires opengles-sgx-img-common (=0.20091104.6.1+0m5)
Now, gltron requires lots of packages.. but this particular branch if you like causes the problem.. if we follow the dependencies down we see that libgles1-sgx-img requires a very specific version of the package opengles-sgx-img-common
    PR1.1.1 : 0.20091104.6.1+0m5
    PR1.2:    0.20091104.34+0m5
So PR1.2 wants to upgrade opengles-sgx-img-common to a newer version.. which would break the dependency for libgles1-sgx-img
So, removing GLtron and infact any package that if you follow its dependencies down you hit libgles1-sgx-img fixes most problems
I wrote a script that identifies a tree of packages.. it tells you whats at the top (ie gltron) and what dependency at the bottom is a) fixed in version number and b) going to be upgraded when PR1.2 is installed
So, the output in this example would be
gltron broken by libgles1-sgx-img which needs opengles-sgx-img-common
Whoever is responsible for that package made the mistake.. Either of not providing a new version of libgles1-sgx-img that is compatible with PR1.2's openglex-sgx-img-common package OR by setting a precise version and not something like
    (=0.20091104)
which I think would've been safe
It is a bit pants that the error messages are few and unhelpful though..but it is an easy thing to fix if you know EXACTLY what you're looking for
Lots of people said "I only had 50meg free so I kept removing packages until it worked"
It wasn't clearing space that fixed it (as I only had 42 meg free when I installed I think) it was that they'd removed the package that freed the dependency collision
I hope that makes it clear (as mud?!)

  • Nokia N8 Breathing Light Not Working PR1.1

Many of my co-N8ers on a forum said that after updating to PR1.1 (013.016) the breathing light is not working anymore even though it is turned ON in the settings. When I tried it on my N8, I can confirm that it is not wotking!
Can anyone try and confirm this one?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

@kichIf it is the same error as my N8, then I'm afraid it's a hardware failure. The notification LED has been missing for almost a year on mine. I just finished the spring cleanup, starting with a 3-button (very) hard reset and loading the latest Belle Refresh with the Nokia Software Recovery Tool. This made no change to the LED's.
    Symptoms:
    * Breathing light not working
    * Notification light for SMS and missed calls not working
    * Charge indicator LED not working during charge - but it blinks 5 times when the shut down phone is connected to a charger
A diagnostics software list the error as: ST_LED_CONTROLLER_TEST No Minor  [ 10 ]
The phone is otherwise healthy and stable so I don't worry too much about the missing LED's.
If it must develop an error while it gets older, this is not so bad...

  • N8 - Picture Browser Issue After Firmware Update

Since I´ve updated to PR1.1 I have a lot of tearing and blurriness when I see my pics at max zoom in the phone´s own pic browser.
Pics viewed in my PC are just fine.
I´ve tried to reinstall the FW 2 times already, but the problem remains.
    Details from my FW version:
    PR1.1 013.016.C11.01
    Language: 013.016.34.01
    PC: 0599221

I also have the same problem. I have two Bluetooth headsets, Nokia BH-101 and Sony Ericsson MW600. Both worked just fine before Anna update. But after installing ANNA, both hands free units giving problems. After couple of calls its simply not responding, and phone get stuck and touch screen not responding to any commands.
After disconnecting the BT handsfree, sometimes phone starts to work fine but in rare cases, it shows as a headset connected even after disconnecting the BT headset.
And when you restart the phone, its start working again with BT. But not for so long. This is a real headache. Please give a solution.

  • PR1.1 for Nokia n8 'Global Swap Version' (Product ...

Hi all, i have a global swap version of the N8 product code: 059B6D7 due to a faulty one i had originally, this was thn flashed with my originl firmware (UK O2 Branded), however i am unable to update to PR1.1 as it shows no updates available and when i checked the release schedule of PR1.1 my product code was not listed. Will this product code ever get an update??

I too had a "global swap" version flashed to my original (059C951) Tesco UK firmware.
I was having problems with it so took it to a NCC and he flashed it with PR1.1 which isn't even listed for my product code yet!!
All working fine and as all have said, you can't reinstall yet via Ovi suite or FOTA.

  • Nokia C7 (059D0B0) software update package problem...

    Hi,
I was helping my aunt to update her C7 (RM-675) model. I tried to help her by installing the PR1.2 update first through SW Update as it showed up there. I managed to download the file with size of almost 7000kb through Wi-Fi on the phone.
When the phone requested for a restart, the screen went white and a word "Updating" showed up. However, within ten seconds, there's a message showing "Restarting the phone" on the white screen.
Phone booted into the homescreen and a message popped out saying "Phone not updated. The software package is not compatible with your phone. Please check with your local service provider".
That didn't make me give up. I went to try again using USB connection to Nokia OVI Suite. The system checked there's an update of PR1.2 and I chose to update it. At first, the system requested for a phone backup and so I waited for it to finish backing up the phone. Later, I downloaded the PR1.2 software update with the file size of 175mb. When finished downloading, there's an error message showing up "Something went wrong". The system suggested me to restart the Nokia OVI Suite and then after several attempts, I couldn't detect the updates anymore. The result returned with "No updates available".
I went to try my luck on *#0000# and check for updates. I could detect v22.014 update was available for download with the file size of 25000kb+. Again, I finished downloaded it and phone requested for a restart and it took me to the white screen and the same word "Updating" appeared on the screen again. I thought this time finally I could update to Symbian Anna. Within ten seconds, the phone got rebooted and went to the homescreen again showing up with the same message of  "Phone not updated. The software package is not compatible with your phone. Please check with your local service provider".
The phone product code was 059D0B0. She bought this phone in Malaysia from a local dealer.
I checked the product code variant and this variant is from Spain, I wondered? The latest update for this variant is only 014.002 which I checked on the Nokia official website and still I could detect Symbian Anna update on OTA on the phone. Can the person in charge please check what is wrong with the situation that I'm having? BTW, we're from Malaysia.
    Thank you very much.
    Bernard

I also had problems with the upgrade to Symbian Anna.
My carkit didn't work, telephone went off and on frequently, etc.
Nokia helpcenter told me that my carkit should be upgraded with
new firmware and that had to try to reinstall Symbian Anna.
I tried to reinstall Symbian Anna a few times but nothing worked.
    Now I solved the problem!!!!!
    - Make a backup of your files, pics, video's, etc.
    - Put your phone back in the factory settings
    - sofware update via Wifi or LAN
    - Installs Symbian Anna 1/2 en 2/2
EVERYTHING WORKS FINE NOW!!!!  also my carkit......
    applause for Nokia helpcenter.............NOT!!!!
It will only take about 10 minutes to configure your telephone
and maybe some stuff from your backup.
Tip: put as much as you can on the extra memory card,
I think most you have it in your phone.

  • Will flashing to PR1.2 void my 2 year warranty wit...

I'm a vodafone customer with the Voda 205 firmware which means that I can't update to pr1.2 without flashing my device.  Just wanted to know if I do flash my device will my warranty still be valid?
    Thanks

The wiki instructions at http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware point the user to a nokiasite for getting the firmware
    http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
That site prompts for IMEI number and then returns a list of "authorized" firmwares. (implied nokia approval)
Since all country varients are listed, and you can use nokia provided tools to do the flash, I personally think it would NOT void the warranty, it's clear here that this particular device is far more open than any other device has been. This is UNLIKE other nokia handsets.
Having said that I purchased a unlocked/generic N900 with UK fimware & it continues to use that fw today.

  • N900 "I am good to go!".!?!? Updating with OVI all...

Hello. I am a happy Nokia Owner. I have used Nokia passing through 6310, 6310i, 9300i and E71.
I got a N900 today. The main reason was because my car navigation device lacked some maps and the update was outrageous, both in cost and procedure. So I JUMPED for Nokias offer about free navigation. YAY!
Since I work with computers (not with phones) and have used Navigation devices to a minor extent, I realize it may be important to update the software, both the one in the brand new phone, and the Nav maps. So after installing OVI Suite I proceeded to update. Phone software is ok, maps, all are gone. Despite updating EXACTLY as presented by the Wizard in OVI Suite.
When looking at the Maps section I have ZERO. Since we are driving across maybe 10 countries in Europe in a few days, I need to update (as in manually select each country ONE by ONE and download and install them) the maps. (I can of course drive anyway, but thats beside the point, I am not that tech geekie that I can't navigate with pencil and paper maps.)
The procedure is slow (I have 24 MB download connection on my broadband) and takes longer than seems reasonable.
Things that should work out of the box:
    - Selection of multiple countries for download via checkbox
    - Select an entire continent
    - Select everything (DA ENTIRE UNIVERSEEEEEEE...he he)
None of that seems possible and I am currently on my third country in 45 minutes. HELLO!?
Now, do not get all jumpy, I am sure all will work out in the end and I am pretty confident I have a good phone with good features. But, why can we not download the whole Map Pack outside OVI and then just have an import function, or the Map Pack is selfinstallable?
You should consider a Bittorrent download, since we are obviously many with these problems and I would happily share my B/W with other Nokia users.
    Bad first impression.

    Hi CONRAMOVI
Sorry to hear of your experience here and a bit late now but I'm glad that I updated to PR1.2 using Nokia Software Updater as a standalone application rather than via OVI Suite. I did however later use OVI Suite to update the existing pre-installed World Maps which it did successfully.
Unfortunately route finding may well be free but it is not the free voice navigation if that is what you are expecting!
