Updating to Yosemite from 10.9.  Progress is stuck

I am trying to update my MacBook Pro from 10.9 to 10.10 Yosemite.  The update downloaded OK.  The problem is the Install progress bar has been stuck for hours.  What should I do?

It did not show minutes remaining.  The installation progress bar sent to what I guess is about 40%, and never continued.  What I did is finally turn it back on, it worked away for several minutes before opening, and then Yosemite was there!  No idea why it stopped the day before, or why starting it up during the next day would install Yosemite.

Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • Can I update to yosemite from 10.6.8

Can I update to yosemite from 10.6.8, or do I need to order Lion or Mountain Lion first?
I thought I could just upgrade but when I select UPGRADE, I get messages like: "Safari can't open the specified address"

Well yes, however you do not give enough information. Technically all you need is 10.6.8, but there is more to the equation.
Easy to figure out if you look at this ref of requirements

  • Help! I finally decided to update my ipad from itunes/laptop & now its stuck in recovery mode!

Hi guys. I just saw this same question from someone else but after i logged into support I cant find the post anywhere. I hate asking again, sorry for asking again, but I need HELP and cant keep searching the posts.
Ive never updated ipad 2 before and not really good with computers. When trying to download certain apps, it would stop installing & tell me i needed to update to the latest update. Finally updated the ipad & i think syncd it but when it was done the only thing that showed up on screen is the RESTORE picture. I just realized that if i restore i will loose all my Memos & Notes. I DONT WANT TO LOOSE THEM ! I have info on ipad memo that I really need & that i didnt write down anywhere else. Is there a way to save my notes/memos/data before I restore the ipad? Ive gone 5 days without it and really need to use it. Am i just out of luck :{ ?
There was an answer by someone about restoring an ipad giving directions and after the restore it will ask u questions that u have to answer YES to. She had school notes and the other guy had 600 pics. The girl stated she did all the steps but she didnt see anyplace to say Yes and she lost everything. Im afraid to risk it and will take it to a store or something if theres away they can do it.
I babbled and im sorry if this made no sense so heres the clear question : Is there a way to save your memos, messages, notes, contacts, etc from an ipad that is stuck in restore mode BEFORE U restore? any help will be so appreciated !!!

  • Acrobat Updater for Yosemite from 9.0 - 9.5.5

    Hello -
Attempting to run the updater to update to version 9.5.5, when the installer gets to "Installing Update" it pops-under a modal panel for "Install Extras" and waits on a response to that panel; unfortunately i can't bring that panel to the foreground because the updater panel is top most, so i can't click on Continue to unblock the install process.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thanks in advance.

I have exactly the same problem with my new computer. There are downloadable updaters on Adobe FTP site but I coudn't sucessfully use any of them...
The way I solved the problem is that I copied the entire Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro folder from my old mac (that one was already at 9.5.5) and then replaced the recently installed folder (I believe it was 9.3.x)  on my new mac. Worked like a champ!
The other thing I noticed but didn't try is that after failed attempt to update to 9.5.5 In acrobat Pro Help menu you can hit Repair Acrobat Installation. This way it lets you uncheck the dreaded Adobe PDF viewer safari plugin and hit Continue. But I was too lazy to try and run the update again because it takes forever to download the updater.
Here's the FTP site. Maybe you will have better luck!

  • Installing Yosemite from 10.6.8 - Now stuck in OSX Installer

I have a White Macbook that was running Snow Leopard and I figured I would try to install Yosemite onto it because why not. Downloading was fine, installing seemed fine, but after the "22 minutes remaining" screen, the bar at the bottom doesn't move and then after about 5 - 10 minutes, a popup comes up saying I can't install this onto the disk. But then when clicking startup disk, it says I'm not allowed to boot up from that disk... leaving me with the only option of restarting. I've been trying different things in single-user mode, from the terminal, and I'm completely stuck as to how to upgrade or even just get back to the 10.6.8. Also, i managed to get to the OSX Utilities, where you can download the OS straight from there, and when I agree and go to click install to drive, it says it's locked. So stuck there too. Please help.

    Do you have a backup?
Can you reboot normally? If you can boot into the single user mode, you are running an OS of some sort. Try booting in the Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • I updated, playing one day, next day progress bar stuck at 0:00

I up graded one day, the next the progress bar stays on 0:00
    Help!!!

This is a fairly common problem. I have no idea what Apple had not issued a fix for it yet. But here is a thread from a couple months back with one theory as to WHY it happens...

  • How do i update to snow leopard or yosemite from macintosh

How do i update to snow leopard or yosemite from macintosh

Back up your data, click here, and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004; some other installed software may also be incompatible.

After updating to Yosemite 10.10.1 my iCloud key chain is gone from my mac book. How do I get it back

Don't know for sure but select File>Open Library
On the right you will see all the available Libraries (whose names end in ".fcpbundle")
Select the one you want and it should load into FCP X.

  • Can't open or upload files from finder now I've updated to Yosemite

I updated to Yosemite over the weekend.  Since then some of my files can't be clicked on to be opened, or to be uploaded online (e.g. hotmail online, or to a commercial printers website).  I'm using dropbox to store most of my stuff on.  However, some files can be accessed (dropbox and non-dropbox) and I can't work out any pattern as to why some files are accessible and some aren't.  I'm totally frustrated, and would be most grateful of any suggestions/help.

Thanks BDAqua.  Unfortunately that didn't solve it.  Everything seems to be showing up now in Finder, it's just when I try to upload to the internet that I'm unable to access the files that I'm having the problem  (although interestingly, if I do a search for the file, rather than clicking on it from the list of files, I am able to access the files and attach/upload to internet).  Here's a screen shot of what I see when I'm trying to upload (I could only upload this by searching for the file, rather than selecting it from the file list) - you can see from the screen shot 3 files are selectable, but the rest are not.  I'm hoping this is simply and just me not getting my head around Yosemite.

I can't place images from Photos into InDesign since updating to Yosemite 10.10.3. Is this an Apple issue or an Adobe one? It used to be a simple process with iPhoto but not anymore.

Thanks Steve. I should have mentioned that I’m still using CS6. Wonder if that’s the difference? All I get in the sidebar is Photo Booth which is useless.

The only reason I updated to Yosemite was to be able to get the new CC LR app. Well, now I don't even have CC anymore. What should I do?
