Updating VIA RAID Bios on K8T Master-FAR 2

How do I update the VIA Raid bios that came with the v.220D SATA drivers?
I see the two rom files (6420R231.rom and 6420N231.rom) in the bios directory, but no directions on how to update the bios.
Tim

You don't. You have to wait for MSI to integrate any RAID BIOS improvements into a new BIOS release for the board.

  • K8d or k8t master far?

Hello to all, looking at a server mobo what do you all think would be the better board?
k8d master far ms-9131  amd chipped
k8t master far ms-9130  via chipped
Ive looked and cant seem to find out if the k8d can use a dual core, I know the k8t is single core Dual processer mobo..
    second suggest a PSU
are either boards very picky on ram pc2700
going to be the server for my shop. trouble free and last a long time!!
    henrythe9th

    Pay attention now!!!!
The MS-9130 is the K8T-Master-2FAR does NOT support Dual-core or new CPU's the FAR7 does, see below !
You are mixing numbers and boards here.
Let me show you the pages of the right boards:
    >>K8T Master 2FAR-7<< = MS-9617 and does support ALL new CPU's, incl dual-core. Workstation board socket 940.
    >>K8D Master3-133<< = MS-9161 ver2 and does support ALL new CPU's, incl dual-core. Server board socket 940.
As you are looking at the K8T Master 2FAR (MS-9130) and the K8D Master3 (MS-9161 ver1) boards, they are NOT the same and do not support the latest CPU's.
Please pay attention to this, as you are looking at the old boards, not the new ones.

  • K8T Master FAR Test-BIOS READ THE MESSAGE!!!!

    Hi guy's,
I hereby post the latest MS-9130, I have tested this and for me it worked and was stable.
Beware, this beta is more alpha then beta, but stable.
If we all help testing, we might get the BIOS we want and need.
This BIOS has quirks, do not use or flash it on a production machine or complaint that it does have problems
It's entirely your own fault if something happens as YOU decided to help testing
The quirks that we know off are:
BIOS doesn't save settings all the time, sometimes it does, other times it doesn't.
Running 2 CPU's will show just 1 CPU in the Opterating system, was reported by a user.
+4GB memory remapping function is in the BIOS, but I couldn't test it as I haven't got enough memory.
    A couple of remarks:
When you download this BIOS, you confirm you did know this is a testing-bios, not a bugg-free one.
After you reboot, check if the settings did save or not.
Please report back what trouble you have found, also list the spec's of your system in detail, below this message.
When it does give problems, clear the cmos and it should boot again.
As I said, this is test-BIOS, not to use if you don't wan't to help testing, nor the forum or MSI is responsible if something does go wrong!
[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ]

Well I've just flashed my mobo K8T Master2-FAR MS-9130 with the 1.47 bios to be able to use my 2 Opterons 252, everything's working fine except the VIA controler, no more RAID 0same as scotchfx.
Got this message: "Have option ROM cannot be invoke: Vendor ID XXXXXXXX"
When the VIA is suppose to display the RAID 0 array.
But I can boot on my ATA HDD onto Linux, then I can see the raid controler when i list the hardware.
    That's with 1 & 2 CPU, After testing them 1by1.
I loaded the optimised setup from the bios & suddenly my RAID 0 was listed & I could boot windows but Linux freezes after boot
Win XP pro sp2 found the 2 CPU but isn't using the 2nd, even if the computer is set on ACPI MPS.
So I tried a live CD on Ubuntu 7.10, it starts & I've got an unknown second CPU bios MPS was set 1.1 cause 1.4 didn't start.
When XP pro starts what ever settings 1.1 or 1.4, 1.4 should be the right setting no?
I was running this mobo with 1 244 for 4 years, & it was the best mobo ever in terms of stability/performance.
Can it be a PSU problem? I've got a Lcpower 550W:
    +03.3 V : Max 35A
    +05.0 V : Max 40A
    +12.0 V : Max 24A
    -12.0 V : Max 0.8A
    -05.0 V : Max 0.5A
    +5.0VSB : Max 2.0A
& Do I have to use SSI connectors when I use 2 CPU?
When I'm on Linux with 1 CPU or W32 with dual, system is very stable, no crash @ all.
Hope I gave enough info, anyone had this issue before?
    Thanks

  • Need RAID driver for k8t master2-far package didnt come with disk driver

I bought the K8T Master2-FAR and the VIA VT6420/VT8237 Disk Driver was not included. I'm trying to install WinXP64 but I need the raid driver before I can. I went to the download section of msi and select my board but the drivers are all 32bit when i tried to use them. There are several 64-bit drivers on the msi cd under Adaptec and LSI but not sure which one of these would work for me. Can someone show me where I can get the correct 64-bit raid driver for my board?
    Thanks for your time.

  • K8T Master FAR Memory Configs....?

When using dual CPU's does memory have to be installed in pairs??
ie. 2 or 4 slots occupied??  I trying to figure out some new memory configs and the board does not boot when only 1 slot is filled.

With one CPU you don't have any problem at all?
    No crashing or anything?
Where did you plug the 12V PSU wire?
Not near the AGP slot I hope
    Just guessing here

  • K8T Master FAR-2 Memory problems

Looked at a bunch of past post found some similar stuff but no luck fixing my issue.  I have 2  AMD 248's @ 2.21 ghz, 1 gig of DDR 400 E/R PC3200. It is in slot1. I tried to add additional mem(2 gigs) when i do no signal to monitor, but cdrom looks like its trying to boot.  Any thoughts? The power is strong btw.
i read on here that the pc3200 wont work on the 248 but it does, and i read only 2 gigs could be used. Im not to tech smart here so please and thankyou

Mixing memory is often not a very good idea.
Opterons are more able to cope with mixed memory, but it still can go wrong. Better stick to the same make/model for best performance.
i tried that also.  I have 2 new sticks and one old. One new stick will work solo, but not 2 new sticks or combined 1 new and 1 old.  The power supply is new and the volts are right were they should be for everything.
I put in a new AGP video card in, thinking that the old one was going bad, i have had problems with that in the past.  Still no luck here though.

The POST, Device Manager detect two new CPUs. However, there are only one CPU being utilize in task manager (yes, I have check one graph per CPU). It appear from the forum that BIOS 1.35B5? would work but I could not find it. Try to install Window XP Pro but failed (flopppy drive does not work).

With BIOS 1.1 and dual Opteron 242, I have both CPU work as shown by Device manager and task manager (two CPU graphs). I can only get one CPU work since I upgrade to Opteron 250 and BIOS 1.4. Unfortunately BIOS 1.1 do not support Opteron 250.

I tried. More stable then 1.47, but not fully workable. Second CPU dont work, Smart fan dont work, if 4Gb installed -> CPU kernel time load 60-70% permanently. Last stable workable release is 1.35, but i have slow down if install LSI 21320R.
1.35 appear to be last stable version reported by users

  • K8T Master (x) Far 1.20 BIOS released...

    Hi,
The new K8T Master BIOS 1.20 BIOS has been released....
    As usual I'm the first......
You can download it here or wait for MSI to realease it:
    http://ftp://ftp.heppen.be/msi/K8T-Master/

I flashed it and it caused my hard drive light to stay on all the time.  Went back to the beta 118 and all is well.  How can MSI put out a BIOS that does something stupid like that?

  • Bio Update via USB for X1Carbon Haswell

    Hi All,
Having some issues trying to update the bios.
Currently running Ubuntu so cannot use the windows utility to update, my only option now is to create a bootable USB and use tools like UNetbootin to create the USB via the iso image.
I have found that the iso image from the Lenovo website is empty? I had tried to mount this iso file on my system and its empty... no hidden files etc... I also tried to download it on spare windows machine with a cdrom and used the windows default burning tool to burn the iso which gave an error.
Has anyone had any success updating their bios using the ISO file supplied by Lenovo from: http://support.lenovo.com/en_AU/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS039783
    Any assistance is appreciated,
    Thanks,

I am pretty sure you have to do it the way Canon tells you to in its documentation on the support page for the 280, i.e. copying the firmware file to a card in a card reader.  There is no mention of ImageBrowser in the documentation.  Updating via ImageBrowser is probably just for the browser software on your computer.  Most things can be done via USB but updating firmware is usually a pretty rare thing except for this particular model camera which has seen two updates so far and I wish would see another (since I too am verging on returning it to the store before my 30 days are up, the day after I get home from vacation). The issues improved with the updates but are still there (see very long thread about battery issues in this forum).

  • K8T Master 2 FAR; Hard Drive Questions About

    Greetings!
I just got off the Google bus and stubbed my toe on your doorstep.  What luck!
I have many questions, and it's getting harder to find answers for a mainboard that's not being sold "new" anymore.  I did see some other topics that go along lines similar to my own, but I figured it would be a good idea to open a new thread with my specific questions.
I have decided to split my questions into three parts.  This is part one, "hard drive" questions.
    HARD DRIVE RELATED:
Western Digital recently announced a new high-capacity SATA Raptor drive, with 150 GB of storage:
    1)  Can I mount two of them into my K8T Master 2 FAR system and "hardware stripe" them for Windows/XP?
....1A)  If yes, is there a minimum recommended BIOS that I should be running?
....1B)  If no, then would it be feasibile to "software stripe" them in Windows/XP Pro?
If I decide to proceed, I will be well-prepared to accept the risk of data loss that would occur if one drive were to crash.
I currently run my system with a removable SATA drive caddy for my system drive.  This makes it easy to swap OS's by swapping hard drives without opening my CPU case.  If I go with a dual-striped SATA drive arrangement and two Raptors, then I'll replace that removable caddy with a unit that can accomodate two SATA drives.
....1C)  Once in a blue moon, I get a BSOD after having swapped SATA drives.  It happens when I first boot Windows/XP after having run Linux.  Hot-swappable claims notwithstanding, I always swap drives while the system is powered down, although I don't typically shut off the hardware switch at the power power supply.  Are there any known issues or reports of other people having similar occurrences?
I also run some IDE devices for data and archival purposes.  My system is typically set up as follows:
    CH 0/0 - Data drive
    CH 0/1 - DVD burner
    CH 1/0 - Data drive
    CH 1/1 - Data drive
Recently, my system stopped "seeing" any hard drives on CH 1 drive 1.  Known good drives won't show up in the BIOS, and auto-detect doesn't "see" a drive in that position.  I have tried more than one drive, and the problem stays on that channel and position.  I swapped cables with a known good cable, and the problem stays on that channel and position.  For the time being, I have disconnected one of the data drives...but I'd really like to resolve this issue if possible.
....1D)  Are there any known problems or issues with "disappearing IDE devices" in the K8T Master 2 FAR?
    Thanks in advance!

Can't say, this is the first time I hear about SATA caddies....
Maybe a bad contact or so?
Sata is pretty sensitive to connection problems, or even folded cables for that matter...

  • K8T NEO - MSI/Via Raid Tool useless

I started getting these messages from a brand new SATA HDD which I immediately replaced. All went well for a week or so and then I started getting the exact same error messages all over again!
Were both HDD's really defective? I am beginning to wonder!
The practical implication of the above errors is that my computer freezes totally - I can't do anything at all - no mouse - no keyboard - no saving work - nothing! When I reboot and run Scandisk /F /R I sometimes get some disk surface errors but mostly I don't.
To my way of thinking there are two possibilities:
    (1) Both these disk drives have genuine technical problems (ie such as surface errors)
    (2) The MSI/Via SATA disk controllers on the motherboard are faulty and this is causing disk errors or possibly even disk crashes (is this even possible? I don't know!)
After the bad run that I have already had with K8T NEO motherboards please forgive me for being suspicious that my HDD problems really could result from a faulty SATA/HDD/Controller rather than genuine disk errors.
To help resolve the issue I downloaded and installed MSI's latest SATA HDD disk drivers which includes the VIA RAID TOOL. The raid tool includes an option to "check the status of controllers and disk drives" and a system "log" which is supposed to record all error conditions/events that occur on devices it controls.
The main problem here is that *IT DOESN'T WORK* !!!
Just a short wile ago my system started acting strangely and then it froze again (third time this hour). I opened the MSI/VIA Raid Tool from the System Tray and checked the logs - There was nothing in them at all - and yet in Windows Error Reporting there were 5 distinct error conditions reported. Obviously the MSI/VIA Raid Tool doesn't work too well.
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Has anybody out there had similar problems?
What steps should I take to resolve these issues?
    Any comments/suggestions?

Not sure how a scope can let you know if you are supplying enough amps. Ripple and noise are basically non issues as the voltages are further regulated on the MB before they get to the componant level.
Almost everything is now regulated from the 12v supply unlike past systems were. As Watts do not tell how much 12v is being supplied by the PSU it is a non starter when you desribe your PSU. You can have a PSU that is 500w and only provides 8a on the 12v rail. That will not even allow an A64 system to startup. As is said over and over again in the forum don't assume that a 500w PSU will ruin your Rig. 24 or more amps on the 12v rail is recommended for a small to mid size build now days. More may be needed as you add parts to your system.
As this is not a common problem on that board, and I should know as I built a fairly large rig from one... We need to have complete specs. Did you know that a high end ATi Vid Card can use more juice than many CPU's you can use on that board? See why this is a concern that we get all the specs?
Like Hans said though I won't bother asking again either. Without some idea what we are looking at all we are doing is looking into a crystal ball. We would like to see if we can help but working with a crystal ball isn't in the tech manual.

    Hi,
I had everything running on windows 7 fine until 2 days ago.  I installed Live Update from MSI website.  I was about to install driver updates for my motherboard, but the bios update went instead.  my pc tried to restart after the bios update installed, but it failed.  would not post and would only see black screen.
then i removed one of my memory sticks.  it would post, but then windows would not start up.  it would get stuck at windows loading screen.  i tried to reformat with my windows cd.  but during install it would blue screen of death me.  i tried multiple times and it would always blue screen of death with different errors.  the last one i remember was a message saying i should off turn shadowing and caching.
this all started happening after i attempted bios update via Live Update.

  • D20 Marvell raid bios update.

Ok i have a pair of Lenovo D20's here one is a 4158-W5K & the other is  a 4158-B6U I just noticed that one unit has a different Marvell bios than the other one.  Is there any way to update them to the newest raid bios?  Any help would be appriciated.

Can you confirm the FW level for each individual system?
I don't think we normally push FW updates for the Marvell controllers in 20 series out to the field as there is some risk in customers messing things up and rendering their systems unusable.  It's a small risk, but it still exists.
Do you have a reason to have the systems on the same FW levels (i.e. are you encountering a problem on one that you're not seeing on the other)?  Most of the FW updates for the Marvell controllers were pretty benign in nature as I recall. Small bug fixes here and there really.
