Updating video drivers

I have a few questions about video drivers.
First off, is it best to have the newest video drivers available, or should you just update them when it's necessary?
Do the old drivers have to be uninstalled before upgrading to the newest drivers?
How do I go about doing that? It's been a while since I have messed with these things and I am a bit rusty.
I would appreciate any help on this matter.
Thanks
Mike

Bring it, tough guy!
Thanks for the answer bro. I am having a little glitch between missions on Delta Force: Task Force Dagger and I believe it is because of the 'no-cd' executable I added to the program folder. No big deal really, I was just wondering if I maybe needed to upgrade my video drivers, but since this game is older now and is made by "NoLogic" (Nova Logic) then it probably has nothing to do with my video drivers.
PS What part of CA is Bonz moving to?

  • Updating video drivers in Boot Camp

I recently installed Windows 7 on my 24" '08 iMac (3.06 dual core with Nvidia 8800GS) using Boot Camp 3.0. Everything is working quite nicely but I'm wondering if I can get updated Nvidia drivers directly from Nvidia's site for their 8800 series of cards.
In the Windows driver update update it says I'm up to date and the Nvidia system utility says that newer drivers aren't available. There are more up to date drivers, however, and I'm wondering if there's any issue downloading new drivers from Nvidia and installing them? Has anyone had experience with this?

The guide on drivers heaven tells you all you need to know, disable the UAC in vista and reboot. Download the ATI driver package which is now 8.6, extract the package and then cancel the install. Use the mod tool and then navigate to the ATI folder and double click setup. It should run perfectly and all is well, I did it the other day with my iMac which has the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT chip. The simple way to say what the mod tool does is that it changes the driver to recognise the apple signature on the chip.

  • Can you update Video Drivers from Nvidia?

    Hello,
I have an iMac 27-inch, late 2012 model with a built in Nvidia GTX - 660M 512 MB video card.  Is it possible to use the Nvidia driver update for this build in card or should I only use Apple's video driver update?  I'm sure there have been updates from Nvidia, but I haven't had a Apple update for at lease six months.  I'm not having any problems, but like to keep current on drivers.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

In OS X, Apple provides GPU driver updates with every OS X update, so you don't have to worry about the driver. If you have Windows installed with Boot Camp, then you can install the most recent NVIDIA driver from the NVIDIA site > http://www.nvidia.com
Note that GPU drivers don't come as individual drivers, but they come with OS X updates. For example, updates like 10.8.5 or Mavericks may come with updated drivers

  • How to update video drivers in Windows?

I just bought the new MBP this morning. I began crashing while playing Warhammer and it seems like it could be a driver issue. I tried installing two different drivers from laptopvideo2go.com but both of them made me immediately bluescreen whenever trying to boot into Windows. I had to rollback the driver both times.
When trying to use the official Nvidia site to detect whether I had the latest drivers, it told me to go check my manufacturer's site for drivers. I've been looking for a long time and can't seem to find anything.

I would recommend checking the tips and forum on laptop2go, and use Driver Sweeper (and tips for how to uninstall, delete, and update drivers) or review the tips if you are doing that already.

These tips for eVGA apply to any graphic driver update:

Nvidia starts offering mobile GPU drivers directly
Getting driver updates for desktop graphics cards is usually pretty easy: head to the GPU maker's website, grab the latest driver release, and you're set. That procedure often doesn't work with mobile GPUs, since users have to rely on laptop makers to provide driver updates—something that doesn't always happen in a timely manner.
Nvidia has attempted to change the formula by releasing a set of beta ForceWare drivers for GeForce 8M, 9M, and Quadro NVS mobile graphics processors. The release is available right now for Windows Vista x86, Windows Vista x64, Windows XP x86, and Windows XP x64, but Nvidia warns that the drivers won't work with Dell Vostro, Lenovo ThinkPad, and Sony VAIO notebooks, along with laptops that use Hybrid SLI technology. A set of completed, non-beta drivers will be out in early 2009.

  • VmWare, Solaris 10, x86, Patch 120536-05, video drivers

    Hello,
I have Solaris 10 x86 working under VmWare 5.x with JDS. I use the Xorg VmWare video driver with a resolution of 1280x1024.
Everything works fine as long I don't apply the patch 120536-05 (updated video drivers and fixes).
I mean the only reason I have for applying this patch is due to the "SUN Update Manager". It's the only one left. All the other patches are installed. I can work without the patch, it's only nice to have.
As soon it is installed I get no longer a console outside of the windowmanager login screen.
On the login screen I say "Command line". Then I have a blank Screen for about 1 minute. It flashes around 5 times in this minute and then I get back to the login screen.
I think it's a bug in the patch. Any idea?
    Cheers El_Sol

save a copy of the /etc/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig and or the /etc/X11/tX86config file it your have one, of running Xorg vs SUN X, then try running the kdmconfig -u and then the kdmconfig -v to reconfigure it.
Open a sunsolve support ticket the contract support for your issue if it is reproducable and you can profice any errors on for Solaris 10 x86 is resonable if you already do not have one even if your on a whitebox clone, it's worrth looking into!
http://www.sun.com/service/solaris10/index.jsp there is a feature that includes Interoperability Support for the $360

  • Updating AVI Video Drivers results in blue screen of death

Creating a CD in Premiere 9 resulted in the program closing.  I was told to update video and sound drivers.  First I used the option in Device Manager, then I used DriverUpdate.  The computer now frequently gets the "blue screen of death," with reference to an infinite loop because of ATI2DVAG.  I want to download the drivers myself after deleting the current drivers.  The first field on the ATI site gives me the choice of desktop graphics, notebook graphics, TV tuner graphics, workstation graphics, integrated motherboard, embedded and MAC.  I chose DESKTOP.  I have Windows XP Professional and I also have Linux installed; my video card is ATI Radeon HD 4250.
In the second field I chose Radeon HD Series.  In the third field I chose Radeon HD 4xxx Series PCle.  In the fifth field I chose XP 32.
This brings me to a page which has three tabs: Catalyst Software Suite (with one download), Individual Downloads (five downloads) and Optional Downloads (five downloads).  I think the first is the one I want.  It comes with the warning that Framework 1.1 Service Pack from Microsoft, dated August 30, 2004, must be installed.  I have no reason to believe that my service packs are not up-to-date; I have service pack 3.
The Catalyst Software Suite, with the one download, is 11.6.  I think I now have 11.2 (I found this in the Catalyst Control Center from the icon on the bottom of my screen).  In my Device Manager it says: 8.821.0.0 released January 26, 2011, PCl busl, device5, function 0, internal version 8.821.
It looks as if the program I bought, DriverUpdate, did not install the latest release.  I think my best bet is to delete the current driver and install the Catalyst
Software Suite 11.6.  Is this the right thing to do?

I agree with John that those driver updater programs can cause more problems than they fix. I gave up on them a long time ago.
But if one of them were giving me the blue screen of death, I'd be very concerned! Blue screens, even on Windows computers, have rarely been seen since the days of Windows ME.
Rather, you'd be best to just manually go to Windows Update and ensure you have even the non-critical updates. That fixes about 99% of your computer. Though occasionally I go to the ATI or nVidia sites manually and get the latest drivers for my video card. And of course I go to Apple.com to ensure I have the latest version of Quicktime, which plays an important role in all PC-based computer editing.
Beyond that, I'd run iobit's excellent, free PC tune-up tool Advanced System Care. It's one of the few tune-up programs I do trust -- and it tunes up everything with just a click or two.
    http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html
And if you're STILL having problems, please give us more information about your system and your project.
What operating system are you running? How fast is your processor and how much free, defragmented space is on your C drive?
What kind of camcorder is your video coming from? When you started your Premiere Elements project, which settings did you select?

  • Can someone tell me how to update the video drivers on my laptop?

one of the games I play online claims my video drivers are out of date, how do I update them without a huge fight?

Someone could give you better and more exact information but you didn't include the model number of your computer. But I can give you a pretty generic answer. At the top of this webpage you should see Product Support. Click on Laptops and then select which model of Toshiba computer you own, ie Satellite, Tecra, etc. Finally type in the model number of your computer. Select the exact model number and click the red Go button to the right. Click the Downloads tab and look thru the different drivers for this computer. Make sure that the new video driver is newer and has a higher version number than your current video driver. If it does, click the Download button, click the Run button and let it do the installation. Afterwards, reboot the computer so that the latest drivers are fully installed. Try again with that game.

  • Intel video drivers crash after update

    Hi all,
I have S540 ultrabook and I use it with onelinkdock with external screen and laptop screen in extend mode.
After 8.1 upgrade on boot I receive the error message "Catalyst Control Center stop working", but everythings works fine.
After Lenovo upgrade (including video driver) I don't receive the message anymore, but using the docking with extend screen, I face frequent black screen on external monitor. After few minutes also the main one became black and I got the message "intel video drivers crash and reset".
    Someone face the same issue?
    Thanks for your help

I'm having the same issue as well, I'm currently at work so as of right now I can't try to restore mine, but the strange thing with mine is that I updated mine the day the iOS 4.0 came out and had no problems until last night. Now the music and video sections keep crashing after just a few seconds. Also all my Podcast are gone, the only things missing and I even re-downloaded them last night and they're still gone.
