Updating web galleries ridiculously slow

I created a web gallery, published it, then decided to add two more photos. When I clicked "publish" from Aperture, it asks me if I want to update. I say yes. Then it tells me it will take an hour! That's the same amount of time it took to publish! Doesn't Aperture have any way of recognizing the photos that are already published so it doesn't have to overwrite them entirely? Please tell me I'm missing something here!

Yeah, what's going on with this. If I upload to Web Gallery it takes 100 times more time than the movie is long, (1300 minutes for 13 minute movie) and lately I have been getting messages that the upload failed. Maybe it has something to do with China, couple of weeks ago everything worked fine. Oh well, on 1st of July I will go to EU, maybe everything works better from there and when the MobileMe service is switched on.

  • Updatable web galleries, and intelligent upload

    It should not be necessary to recreate a web gallery every time you add an image or two to an existing collection which corresponds to that web gallery. Somehow the content and format of the gallery needs to be saved so that you can just update the existing web gallery, adding only the new images and updating the thumbs database as needed.
    Then, during upload, some intelligence needs to built in so that only the new or changed files are uploaded, and the whole gallery on the server is not replaced...and so that if an error occurs during upload you don't have to upload the whole gallery...just the part that didn't upload on the first try.
    As it is, it takes hours to create and upload a gallery of 200 images...and then I have to resort to an ftp program that can take up where it left off to get it to upload.

    Bob,
    When captions are a key factor, I publish as a Web Page, and not Web Gallery. The features of easy downloading for the viewer is not there, nor is the full screen slideshow, but it is a good choice to provide images of an event where the viewer may not have been there themselves and need lengthy captions.
    With a Web Page, you can keep the version name, and simply also provide the info you enter into the Caption field of the metadata.

  • How to update web galleries without replacing them?

    When I export a web gallery that already exists (i.e. when I've added some new photos and want to update), it just gives me the option to replace it. How can one continually update one's website via LR without completely replacing it each time?

    Do as many of the rest of us do, until this behavior is changed (if ever). Eport your WEb gallery to your Hd and use an FTP client, there are so many, including Drreamweaver's, and Shareware ones, and upload just the relevant files/folders. Some can even check and do this for you.

  • Web galleries showing in iweb after updates for anyone?

    Wondering if anyone has tried and be successful publishing a web gallery from Aperture 2 and having it show up in the Iweb insert menu.
    I get Iphoto galleries showing up, but not Aperture. The files are on the idisk.
    thanks

    I too have just discovered that web galleries created in Aperture show up on the web, but do not show up on the insert menu under iWeb. This is bad because I'm creating blog entries as we speak, and cannot insert recently created galleries into them. Any solutions anyone?

  • Web galleries won't update/upload

    Hi, I have a question about web galleries.
    I know the FTP settings are correct (I can browse the folder tree using the 'browse' button on the FTP settings page) and I did manage to upload a gallery earlier today. But I needed it to be an HTML gallery and not a flash one, and now whenever I try to export a selection of photos to my server LR says:
    (The task bar top left says:
    Upload Web Photo Gallery
    Loading uploaded page)
    Then I get a dialog box saying
    "The specified destination already exists on the server.
    Would you like to continue? Some files on the server may be lost."
    And a click on 'continue' makes the task bar say "Canceling task..."
    And then nothing.
    Same sequence if I try to upload to another folder except no 'destination exists'-dialog...
    Anyone else had this? Or know a fix?
    Also if I try to export a gallery locally to disc, it only exports the html files, never the photos...
    Lightroom 3.3
    Mac.

    I could add these
    a link to the gallery when exported to disc and then uploaded
    http://themajk.com/proofs/hanna_tangmark_i/index.html
    and a link to what should be the first signel photo page
    http://themajk.com/proofs/hanna_tangmark_i/content/_MG_2252_large.html
    all image id's / filenames seem to be 'nil' and replaced in urls by ?????????
    Maybe (well, obviously) I'm doing something wrong, but what?

  • Why do the mac updates take a ridiculously long time

    why do the mac updates take a ridiculously long time? 10 hours? this is ridiculous - my ISP is 40mbps

    Which updates were you trying to get? If you are going to a very busy web site or server, the connections could be extremely slow. But to wait so long invites troubles.
    If the machine is terribly slow, that should be an indication some maintenance or repair may be needed first. Some keyboard shortcuts can be used to check and attempt repair, and the problem likely is in the Mac.
    Everything from the amount of RAM installed, to the total capacity of the HDD (or SSD) vs free or unused space on the drive, is important to the function of the OS X. Or there may be an issue, if the OS X checks out OK, in the internet connection. If you use wireless mostly, check the connections by wire instead.
    Try to not get into a position where you end up using 'force quit' if the computer appears to freeze up. In the process of an update or upgrade, that's almost never a positive outcome.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Upgrading to Acrobat X Web service calls slower...

    Hey,
    we made a plug-in button using javascript that takes the current document and sends it to a server using a webservice, the document is divided in chunks and sent to the server in size of 10 mg per chunk.
    this plug-in was working great, until the customer demanded that we migrate to acrobat x.
    we ran the same code and hit the wall to something similiar to this problem:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/756218?decorator=print&displayFullThrea d=true
    see, we figured out that the time it takes to communicate with the web service became slower depending on the size of the parameter sent to this service.
    when sending a chunk of 10 mega using 9 it took almost 15 sec.
    when sending a chunk of 80 kbyte using x it took almost 15 min.
    a sample code is shown below:
        var stream = Collab.documentToStream(document);
        var service = Net.SOAP.connect(url);
        var bound = 10485760;
        var documentSize = document.filesize;
        var thermo = app.thermometer;
        thermo.duration = Math.round(documentSize / bound);
        thermo.text = "Sending document to server";
        var counter = 0;
        thermo.begin();
        try {
            var stringReaded;
            var fileName = '';
            var parameter = {
                soapType: "xsd:string"
            do {
                thermo.value = counter;
                stringReaded = stream.read(bound);
                    parameter.jsonPdf = stringReaded;
                    fileName = service.SavePdf(parameter);
                counter++;
            while (stringReaded.length == bound * 2);
        catch (e) {
            app.alert(e);
        thermo.end();
    Update:
    Just un-installed x and downgraded to 9 with typical installation
    works like a sharm...
    still its needed to be deployed in 10 or x, any help is much appreciated

    What happens when you deactivate the Thermometer code?
    I believe to remember having the IMHO weird effect in Acrobat 9 that under some circumstances the Thermometer was speeding things up. This "bug" may have been "fixed" in 10.

    how do a get a refund on a ridiculously slow downloading rented movie for my apple tv dispite a >5mb/sec down load speed? my first experience with appletv movie rental. no good. rented at 4:30pm. still waiting for standard def movie to finish at 8:10pm. Not good enough.

    Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
    Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
    Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
    Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
    I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
    Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

  • Updating web gallery

    I turned off the daily update of web gallery and set it to manual. I did this because iPhoto was locking up for a long time each time I would open it. It was updating the ton of web galleries I've created. I thought I could then make changes as I want to events and then update them when I'm ready for iPhoto to lock up.
    Wrong.
    It keeps making changes online to any gallery as I make them. As soon as I move a video or hide a photo, I have to wait while the little spinning icon on the left rotates oh so slowly. If I move a larger video or a group of pics at once, forget it. I've learned to just come back to iPhoto later.
    Any ideas on how to make it quit trying to update the moment I make a change in an event? I'd like to gain manual control over this process so it won't keep doing it for me as it pleases

    Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Then reset the preferences and see if the manual update option will work.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Making large html web galleries (400-1400 images)

    Please post a link to methods on how to do this if I have missed an earlier answer.
    I have been building large html web galleries to provide to clients on disks along with the original images. When I do this for galleries of around 400 to 1400 images and up, the web gallery is made but there can be images that are missed and listed as 'not in the library' even though they are present and intact.
    I have found a clumsy workaround. After choosing the group of images in the library and selecting the web template in the web module, I open each thumbnail index page and let the thumbnails load and then move to the next index page and let it load, etc. After finishing all the index pages I export the web page. Often I still get error messages but in fact all the images are loaded into the web page and it can be opened with a browser with no problems or missing images.
    This is a time consuming method to accomplish something that should be easily automated and automatic. It seems that LR gets ahead of itself in making a page before it has actually loaded the image file...therefore an image is missed.
    Has anyone found a better way to do this for large groups of images or do we have to wait for an update to correct this glitch.
    Thanks in advance.

    Try setting off the gallery export overnight and really leaving it time to finish. I suspect the progress bar isn't totally accurate and things happen before and after it has apparently completed. See if this works.

  • Help, Aperture web galleries not showing up on iWeb insert menu!

    All of my iPhoto web galleries show up fine on the Insert menu (Insert > .Mac web gallery) for placement in a web page. None of the galleries created in Aperture show up. They all exist fine on the gallery page. This is very annoying
    Apple?
    -Josh

    Yes, I have seen your name come up a lot in these posts. It seems it's just a total oversight on the part of Apple. I'm sure the issue lies with iWeb and not Aperture. There must be some list to look up and iWeb just fails to look in more than one place. Lets hope there is a +0.0.1 update soon.
    What is the Apple "make a suggestion" URL?

  • Web galleries not showing up

    Anyone having problem since the updates with Iweb not seeing posted web galleries?
    I can access them, but they doe not show up the the insert .mac web gallery area anymore.
    thanks

    Are you referring to web galleries created by iPhoto? Try opening the iPhoto Library package like this and move the AlbumData.xml file to the desktop and relaunch iPhoto. Launch iWeb and try again. Also make sure they are not password protected.

  • Aperture web galleries

    Ok, an Aperture update.
    It still appears that published web galleries do not show up in the Iweb insert menu.
    If a gallery created in Iphoto or Aperture is viewed all galleries created by both appear in the gallery area on the web.
    Only guessing this is still an aperture problem of some sort.
    Frustrating!
    Posted in the Aperture forum also.
    Anyone having any luck?
    thanks

    Not really, I have that enabled and it works fine.
    Seems odd. Aperture galleries get published to the same area of the idisk as Iphoto galleries. Iweb sees the Iphoto galleries, but not the aperture ones.
    I can only assume there is some difference in what is actually published.
    Hoping to hear from Apple, but no luck as of yet.
    I'm under the impression Iweb should see them.
    Thanks again

  • Web Galleries and overall image migration

    Hey all,
    I've got a question regarding the MobileMe web galleries. I'm pretty sure that you can create them in three places; Aperture, iPhoto and iWeb. So my question is kind of relating to two methods of creating and collaborating web galleries.
    Say that you've created a web gallery in iPhoto in a pinch but use Aperture primarily. Now you're on Aperture and want to continue to update that gallery. Is there a way to migrate that gallery from iPhoto to Aperture. Or, and this is my situation more specifically, say you're on vacation and create an Aperture based web gallery on your Macbook. Now you're back home and want to continue using and updating that web gallery but are now on the Mac Pro. Can that gallery be migrated from the Aperture database on the Macbook over to the database on the Mac Pro?
    To that point, how about image alterations and settings. I've captured some 1200 photos while on vacation, tooled around with them on my Macbook while away making color adjustments, adding vignettes and general improvements. Is there any way to then migrate those albums and/or settings over to the other database in the other system? Seems a shame to have to do all that leg work all over again. Perhaps it's just a matter of grabbing album folders from the database package and bringing them into the other database package?

    "Migrating" your photos, albums, adjustments, etc. is a piece of cake. Just export the project/s using file export project from your laptop and use file import project on your desktop. Move or share the .approj file from your laptop to desktop in the way you are most comfortable with.
    More info here:
    [Aperture on multiple computers|http://photo.rwboyer.com/2008/09/managing-aperture-2-on-multiple-comp uters>
    As for web galleries - can't answer that one with detail because I find them uselessly frustratingly unexplainably notoriously unreliable and I hate that you have no control over color profile for downloadable images. So I don't use them now after playing with them for a bit.
