Updating Xcelsius

Hello
My version of Xclesius 2008 is 5.1.3.0 build 12,1,3,495.
Now, I need to update this, ideally, to SP3.
I understand that I should be able to apply SP3 directly (rather than SP1, SP2 first).
However, when I come to install SP3, it asks for the language and everything seems normal, but then it takes ages and nothing seems to happen. Normally, I expect software to have some kind of progress bar.
So, should I stick with SP3 and just give it all the time it needs? I note the SP3 file is very big.

There are issues if Xcelsius was installed from either a network share or removable source. Take a look at the Microsoft note mentioned in the Xcelsius SP3 Release Notes to see if that resolves your problem.
Error uninstalling Xcelsius 2008 with Fix Pack 1.1
If Fix Pack 1.1 has been applied, when attempting to uninstall SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius 2008 to install Service Pack 3, an error occurs.
Workaround: Uninstall Fix Pack 1.1 before uninstalling Xcelsius 2008.
Missing xcelsius.msi file
If you previously installed SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius 2008 SP2 or SP1, before you install SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius 2008 SP3, you must uninstall the previous version. If you deleted the source files for the SP1 or SP2 installation, when you attempt to uninstall Service Pack 3, an error occurs:
The file <filepath> is not a valid installation package for Xcelsius 2008. Try to find the installation package
Xcelsius.msi in a folder from which you can install Xcelsius 2008.
The location for the xcelsius.msi file for Service Pack 3 is not accepted. This error is due to a Microsoft known issue: Error 1706 "No Valid Source Could Be Found" When Installing MSI File from Removable Media. As a workaround, if possible, save a copy of the xcelsius.msi file from the previously installed version in the location where the previous program
source files were saved and then uninstall Xcelsius. If you do not have access to the source files for the previously installed
release, follow the steps to resolve the issue on the Microsoft support site at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299803.

First of all I see that you are using the connection which is incorrect(web service query),You need to use the first option i.e web service query(query as a web service).
If you still face the issue using the 1st option then there is something gone worng with the migration of the qaaws.
As suggested by Jennifer use the relative path for the web service url and make sure it works in the source environment in the BI Launchpad.Now you can migrate it to destination with all the dependencies.

Update/insert/delete data from xcelsius to Database via web service

Hi,
I need to create dashboard that go function can update/insert/delete data send to Database thru web services, as i know got 2 xcelsius add-on software which support those of function InfoBurst and flynet

Hi,
As of now in Xcelsius/Dashboard Design there is no feature or functionality to insert/update/delete data from database.
Solution:
Create a Web service in let’s say C# or Java, which will perform insert/update/delete operation.
In Xcelsius add Web Service connection and user above web service.
Xcelsius Web Service connection provides option to pass input values to a Web Service (Input Pane) and get the result (Output values pane).
We can pass values to be written to the database as a input to Web Service via Web Service connection from Xcelsius and write data to the database.
Note:
Performing delete operation from Xcelsius Dashboard could be risky and may delete important data from database. I would not prefer giving delete option/functionality in Xcelsius dashboard.

Updating data in Xcelsius 2008 Export from Excel Spreadsheet

Xcelsius 2008 newbie question....
I have created a Xcelsius export (.swf) that display my data. However it appears the data is static after exporting.
I am at a loss as to how you force it to update/refresh using the connections used in the excel.
Am I missing something? I cannot find a straight answer, do need LiveOffice?
How do I have an (.swf) export file that refreshes data itself????

The easiest way to get data to update in your swf is to create a connection in the Data Manager. After the connection is setup you can add a connection refresh button to allow the swf viewer to trigger that connection.
To get data to refresh automatically, you can setup the connection to trigger or update on interval.

How to update new records in existing Xcelsius DashBoard

Hi GUrus,
I have a question about Xcelsius. I was reading some document and it has mentioned that once we have imported any excel file, it gets stored in Xcelsius and does not communicate with the excel file. IN that case when the record changes how does that gets updated inDashboard. e.g. we have a dashboard which shows sales for all regions for first qtr. If we want to see sales for next qtr do we need to import the file again?
Can anyone please clarify?

The Data connectivity here should be an XML or Qaaws or liveOffice where these 3 data connections has the capabality of Getting data (Upto the minute ) without any manual intervention...
Try with XML first then you can look forward to Qaaws , Live office...

Can Xcelsius flash files be integrated also somewhere else keeping the automated updating?

Hi Mazin,
You can integrate your swf file on to any custom portal or SharePoint. Yes, you can still set it to refresh on load and get the updated data. It depends on the type of connection and from where you are pulling the data.

Xcelsius Source Excel file update

Hi Experts,
I created my first Xcelsius Dashbaord with a bar graph. The dashboard uses simple excel file as teh source.
Now if the change the excel file directly, will it update my dashboard automartically? if yes how is it done?

    The answer is "Yes",
    For your scenario, the work flow is:
    data changes in excel->changes to the component which binds to the excel range.
    For Xcelsius, it can be highly embeded with Excel, when you bind chart data to excel range, when the data changes in excel, the changes will reflect to the chart rightly. Also there will be two types of behavior for xcelsius component to communicate with Excel, one is "Input" component and the other is "Output" component;
For input component, it can "Write/Insert" data to excel, for example "Gauge" component under "Single Value" when it binds to excel cell, at run time, when user drags gauge to change value, the value will be inserted into the cell.
For output componen, it canbe "ready only", for example , "Pie chart" when its data binds to excel range, it can only read data from excel.

How to get new and updated data into LO Excel in Xcelsius

Dear Experts,
I have created dashboard on top of webi report by using Live-Office connection. Latest data of webi report is imported into excel and mapped data with components and generated SWF file and exported into server.
To day my webi report has latest instance with new and updated data. But until unless by clicking "Refresh All Objects" i am not getting updated data into excel.
When i am trying to open dashboard in BI Launch Pad/CMC it is showing data whatever exist in excel(i.e yesterday data). But here we need to show data of latest instance of webi report.(i.e New and updated data as of now).
I have selected option "Latest instance: From latest instance scheduled by" in "refresh options".
My Question & Doubts:
1) Is it mandatory to open dashboard every day and need to click on "Refresh All Objects" to get updated data into excel or dashboard.
2) Is there any option to automate this process.

Hi,
Schedule the webi report to get the latest data from the source. To answer your query no is doesn't require to open the dashboard every time to refresh the excel to get the latest data.
Please use the Refresh Before Components are Loaded: Select this option to refresh the data each time the model loads and to use that data as the initial data for the model (using a Reset Button component, it will reset the data to the values from the last time the model was loaded).
You are using the Live Office so here automatic refresh is not possible without touch the swf file, you need to use the refresh but to get the latest data. If you are using QAAWS, Web Service & XML then automatic refresh is possible.

QaaWS not returning data in Xcelsius

My dashboard Data is not displayed in Xcelsius or InfoView and have encountered the error as below:
All of your system's 0 Concurrent Access Licenses are in use at this time
or your system's license key has expired. Try again later or contact your
administrator to obtain additional licenses. (FWB 00014)
I have tried to validate the Web service via the URL in browser :http://<server>:<port no>/dswsbobje/qaawsservices, same error has appeared in the browser.
I have applied the SAP Notes 1258052, the issue is still not resolved.
I have tried to use different user ID to the BOBJ Authentication screen prompt in the dashboard, however still got the same error.
System Information:
BOBJ XI R3.0
Xcelsius 2008 sp3

Hi,
I do not know the content of the SAP Note you are referring to, but it seems you are encountering the usual pre-XI 3.1 issue of QaaWS.
Before XI 3.1, QaaWS management servlet used to connect to the CMS independently of consumers or any actual user connection (this was required to get QaaWS queries descriptions to generate WSDL files and some runtime parameters). To do so, QaaWS used a specific 'background' user, usually called QaaWSServletPrincipal, which, as any other user, eats up a license. If the number of available concurrent access license is low, this background user may drive you into that issue (error message tells by itself).
Ways to mitigate this are :
1. Increase the number of available license (self evident).
2. Use another 'background' user, this can be performed by changing configurations parameters in configuration file dsws.properties under ~<Application Server Folder>\webapps\dswsbobje\WEB-INF\classes : qaaws.principal.username and qaaws.principal.password parameters need to be changed to another user, in order to share the corresponding license (any user with at least view permissions over the CMS will do the job). Do not forget to restart app server after this change.
3. Update to XI 3.1, in that release & following, background user has been removed (for security reasons), WSDL data is managed differently.
4. When running CX dashboards from Infoview try (as recommended) to use serialized session information to connect QaaWS queries, so that consumer re-uses its own session to run the QaaWS query. Any other way of passing credentials (session token or login & password web service input parameters) to QaaWS queries will eat up a new license, and thus brings the risk of the error you have.

Load monthly excel data in xcelsius

Hi,
I have 12 month of data for 35 KPI in excel sheet which needs to be updated every month when new data comes.
I need to design a dashboard in xcelsius, can you please help me how can i design the architecture for this dashboard so that when excel sheet will be updated every month then data automatically refresh in dashboard.
Any help or document with basic knowledge of architecture design will be appreciated.

Data not updated in the excel while using Live office

Hi all,
I have a Trial balance Crystal report in BOE and have created a Live Office document connecting that report. Now I've imported that document to the Xcelsius environment.
In Xcelsius a Filter component having the YTD values as the Labels and its destination is bound to the cell having input to the Crystal report of the Live Office document. Now in the Preview mode when I change the select the year its corresponding data should be displayed in the Chart but unfortunately that's not that case. But when I change the year in Non Preview mode
the data is getting updated.
What could the error ?

Excel sheet on sharepoint to be used as source for Xcelsius dashboard

Hi Everyone,
We have to build an Xcelsius dashboard based on an excel sheet's data. This excel sheet is placed on a sharepoint, which will be updated periodically.
I would like to know what kind of dat a connection i can use to fetch this excel data and publish this dashboard.
I couldnt find any suitable type of connection in the data manager...please suggest me a way to get this done.

Yes our customer does have sharepoint, can you please let me know how the sharepoint can expose the Excel spread sheet as a web service. I think this solution will work out, if i can get the web service. Please share the steps for this.
Does it involve any 3rd party tools? .

Session Timeouts accessing data from Xcelsius

I am running Business Objects XI R2 SP2 and running Xcelsius 2008 FP1.
Basically within my models i use LiveOffice to refresh the initial data used within the models and then I use QaaWS to use certain drill through parameters to retrieve more detailed information.
All this works fine and returns all the data i need, but i get session errors when accessing the models from Infoview.
When i log into Infoview, i can run 1 model fine and do all the necessary refreshes and further drill downs without any trouble, but when i close the model down and try to go into the next model i get the following error message;
Your webintelligence session has timeed out WIS: 30553.
NOw i have updated all the setting i know of eg;
1) Webi report server timeout in server properties
2) Configured the command line of the webi report server in CCM to include the timeout parameter.
3) Web.xml file has been amended to increase the session timout
4) Web.xml file has been amended to uncomment the listener settings
5) i have even updated the session timeout on the Tomcat server (tomcat\conf\web.xml)
Has anyone any other ideas as i can not access the models.
I know this is not related to Webi reports, as i can fresh reports and open up other reports without any issues, so i think it must be related to Xcelsius in soem way.
Any help will be gratefully received.

     I wrote it in my procedure and ran it through my job.Its working as needed now.
     I analysed what your code does. Let me know if I'm right or wrong
     The view apex_activity_log is based on query like

What i understand is when i run query in toad it gets null value in above where clause so my below query doesnot retrieve any data.
     But when i set security_group_id it gets some value through wwv_flow.get_sgid and my query retrieves the data for my app_id

How to make excel and Xcelsius dynamic?

I have Xcelsius version 4.0.4.7. I use it for creating our departments dashboard for metrics. I have 6 departments to create metrics for. I use Excel for the spread sheet.
Data is displayed via bar charts showing different categories on how they perform over a one year period. For example from October 2007 to October 2008. The graphs look great. However, I am the one updating the metrics and my boss would like to see it become all dynamic. Where all the department managers could enter the data and have the charts automatically update.
I am in charge of our departments' web site and would still have to update the SWF to the server. Which is fine.
My question is "can Xcelsuis 20080 be able to handle this request?".

Error while installing Xcelsius 2008

Hi,
We are getting error while installing Xcelsius 2008 version 5.3.....
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch"
Kindly suggest how to install the Xcelsius latest verion.

Hi Pearl,
Sorry if you've already done this, but have you installed Xcelsius 2008 SP3 first? It sounds like you are trying to install a fix pack without first installing Xcelsius 2008.
The downloads are all available from the [downloads service market place|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/] (as per the stickied thread)
If you choose Service Pack as the software type it will allow for download of the SP3 full install.
OR
Could it be this issue [Xcelsius FP3.5 error installing Excel2010; with solution from F. Kooij if you are referring to the latest fix pack 3.5 with Office 2010?
