Hi here just a bit of advice on updating the phone for anyone having probs....this is my personal experience
1.KEEP CHARGER PLUGGED IN!!!!!
2.DONT USE DESKTOP CHARGER- DESKTOPS CHARGER ARE NOT A TRULY DIRECT SOURCE OF POWER IE FROM WALL OUTLET TO DESKTOP TO PHONE.....(THIS CAUSED A PROBLEM WITH A FRIENDS PHONE)
3.IF YOU SEE THE UPLOAD APPLICATION TAKING A WHILE BEFORE IT STARTS TO INSTALL STOP IMMEDIATELY NOTE: THIS IS BEFORE IT STARTS TO ACTUALLY INSTALL!!!!!!!!!
ii) TAKE MEMORY CARD OUT SOMETIMES UPDATE CAN CORRUPT FILES
4.YOU WILL GET A PROMPT THAT YOU SHOULD KEEP THE CABLE CONNECTED.....THE PHONE WILL SEEMINGLY DISCONNECT IE THE PC SUITE WILL TURN GREY INSTEAD OF GREEN...DONT WORRY THIS IS JUST A FEATURE
5.AFTER COMPLETION OF UPGRADE THE PHONE WILL REBOOT.....ALLOW THE PHONE TO DO WHAT IT HAS TO AFTER EVERYTHING IS BOOTED BACK TO THE FACTORY SETTINGS TURN OFF PHONE(DONT HIT MENU JUST SWITCH RIGHT BACK OFF)
6.TURN ON PHONE ALLOW IT TO BOOT ONCE AGAIN TO MAIN SCREEN
7.CHECK VERSION
8. GO THROUGH MENU MAKE SURE ALL IS WELL
9. YOU CAN NOW RELOAD YOUR APPS....
QUESTIONS
1.I have multiple phones do i need to delete nokia updater file then install for the phone i now want to update? eg update nokia n91 then delete it before i update 6682?
2.how do i know i have the most recent firmware....will nokia tell you? for eg nokia n91 most recent is v2 i believe, is there anyway on the update section that states if it is v1/ v2? how will i know if it isnt a v3?
if anyone has any tips please feel free to add.....

so you phone is meant to download the file first, then process the update, to prevent such an occurrence...
Most phones have a safe guard inbuilt into the OS which prevents large files being downloaded over mobile data, for example iOS stops you at 50MB, even when I have data I can use...

anything that's not music, photos, apps, etc. anything that is not whatever is shown next to the other on the bottom of your screen. for example, if you look on your phone at settings, general, usage and click on any of the apps it will show you how much the actual app takes up and also how much documents and data it has; that documents and data portion will be counted as other. most phones that are operating normally have around 1gb of other so if you have a lot more than that you probably have a corrupt file or something. in that case search "removing other from iphone" will help you, but usually restoring is what will fix it.

Did you fail to import them to your comuter before updating?
If for some reason you did fail to do this, then they are very liekly gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

Never update your phones software.

Guys stop updating your device software. I updated my N79 and the result was. i lost my mobile dictionary. Nokia does not provides any useful updates to its old customers.

It is more a case of Nokia supporting older devices longer than initial licensing arrangement for third party software inclusion that sometimes causes applications to disappear in later firmware.

I will start this discussion off by listing some of my complaints.
The other day my phone says "Important updates available for your device" and I am thinking that there must be a good reason to do it.So I do. My phone reboots and the first thing I notice is that there are new apps installed t hat have nothing to do with the update. Next the phone constantly tries to backup, every other letter I type when writing a message there is lots lag. sometimes resulting in numbers or other special characters. I could go on forever but now it is your turn. Be sure to let Verizon know how unhappy you are with the software and the update.

I agree completely. This update has made a mess of my phone. My favorite app is "PowerAmp", a music player I use the "paid" version of. All my playlists are now empty. The app now has all kinds of glitches.
Perhaps I'm being a bit cynical, but with the addition of more Google-related apps in this update (that I didn't ask for and don't want), and the destruction of some apps that compete with ones from Google, it appears that Google is using its control of the Android operating system to boost itself over the competition.

The difficulty that I have is that based on the information I have available the repair agents will only tell you they cannot help is if the phone is outside of warranty, outside of warrantable condition or they cannot find a fault with the handset. is there any other information they have provided you regarding their lack of assistance that may help us to come to root cause of this?

How do you update your phone on somebody elses computer?

I plugged in my phone to the computer and signed into my ITunes account, but my phone wont show up on the computer and it doesnt show that it is plugged in on my phone. when i plug it in it brings up the computer owners account and it wont show my device so i can update it.

Select from the Store menu in the iTunes' menu bar --> Authorize Computer. The iTunes software will attempt to validate the computer from the iTunes Store on Apple's iTunes servers. Hope this helps.

You need iTunes 10.0 or greater to update your phone...iTunes isn't confused at all. If you're on a Mac, you'll need OS X 10.5.8 or greater to update iTunes to 10.0 or greater.

Make a backup of your stuff (from the phone. apps/photos/music/blabla). Update your phone. The phone will restore the backup automatically.

To update your phone requires using the latest version of iTunes, on your computer, as well as Internet access. The update to iOS 5.0 or higher is an erase/restore deal, so you not only have to make sure all of the content, currently on your phone, is on your computer and accessible, you need to update iTunes first, have Internet access, then update your phone. There is no way around this fact. You could go to an Apple store or use another computer, but you run the risk of losing all of your data it you do that.

Then you will need to update to iOS 5.1.1 as outlined above. Can I update my phone without changing the interface/design?

I haven't updated my iPhone 4S in ages - I think I may still be using IOS 4 or IOS 5. I love the old interface, and I really, really don't want to have to change to the new interface (I've seen it and it looks completely different). I'm very fond of how safari works, how pass code locking works, how photo albums are designed, the proccess of clearing apps - everything. The problem is that there are a few apps I'd like to download that require IOS 6 or above. My question now is either,

2.2 update RUINS PHONES

I was just in the process of looking to buy a macbook because I have been so thrilled with my mac products and now this.
I went to update my iPhone 3G with the new 2.2 software. First I got an error message. Then, it tells me I have to restore the phone! The kicker: The phone won't restore. In the middle of all this, a co-worker says OMG don't update your phone! It ruined mine!
Same thing happened to him.
What's going on here????

What exactly does iTunes say when the restore fails?
Are you restoring the iPhone from a Mac or PC?
Make sure the computer has the latest version of iTunes and the iPhone is directly connect to a high speed USB port.
