Upgading from 7 to 8 on vista 64

I cannot upgrasde from itunes 7 to 8. I have been working on this for 3 months and it is driving me crazy. I have tried everything I have come accros on the net with no luck. I can download everything OK but I get an error when it tries to install. The error I get is "errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem presists, choose tools > download only and try installing manually" which I have done. I am running Vista 64

remove your temp files, download itunes from apple.com/itunes/download save it, then right click on the setup file and hit "run as administrator"
(make sure you download the 64 bit version of itunes.

How do you exactly mean: transferring files? Would you like to copy them to the machine with Vista?
And regarding the Excel (*.xls) files, you need Microsoft Excel which is in the Microsoft Office Package. That means if you have no Microsoft Office for Vista then you will need to purchase one to open and edit Excel files.

Unable to print to office jet pro 8600 over wifi from a laptop running vista, basic home edition

Have a new officejet 8600 pro and am able to print via wifi from laptop running windows 7 and hp touchpad running webos, so all is working fine. However, I am unable to print via wifi from a laptop running Vista Home Basic, 32 bit OS. I can see the printer from the laptop, but when trying to connect to it, receive the error message "Unsuccessful Network Installation, the printer was unable to be installed over the network".
Have downloaded drivers from HP, turned off laptop firewall to ensure no blocking and still no luck. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Hello, my ipod is a 5th generation 30 GB ipod formatted in windows. I deleted the original itunes folder on my old computer. Now i own a macbook with Leopard and Vista. They are both authorized and i was able to transfer back the songs i bought on itunes. Also, i was able to copy ipod folder to vista : it says it is just 6.6 MB but in reality it contains 12 GB ( the HD 's says so...). Ok so basically ipod is set manually as a hard drive, i want to put all its content back: playlists, podcasts, videos, photos, every song from my cd collection... everything... but how ? and is it possible to do the same with Leopard?

I just purchased my iPod video and i am tring to download a free episode of something and it is saying that it is going to take 132 hours for it to download. Yes, there are big problems with iTunes for Windows. Until these are rectified, your Ipod will be a paper weight.

PSE 7 Won't open photo in Quick Editor from the Organizer using Vista

I just installed the PSE 7 on Vista and am unable to open a photo in the quick editor from the organizer. It doesn't matter if its a raw file or jpg file. My ram memory is 3.0 gb and I have a duo core processor with 2.0 gb each. I've downloaded the plug in for the camera raw plug-in 5.2 and also deleted the organizer's preferences. Any other suggestions what it could be?

I do not quite understand what you mean by "diffuculty" so suggest that you be more specific about what happens.
Then also tell us if you have the same results when you select just one jpeg and attempt to go from the Organizer to Full Edit.
Next try editing that same jpeg file by going directly from the Welcome screen to Edit and then use the Editor workspace File menu to open that jpeg file. Post your results.

WRT54GS Changeover from Wired to Wireless (Vista): Duck Soup!

I've owned my WRT54GS router for nearly three years and had initially bought it as a wired router (with an option to go secured wireless later), but I'm used to thinking that wireless was primarily for laptops and notebooks (even though I've actually used wireless-enabled desktops before in independent coffeshops).
However, something happened that changed my tune about desktops and wireless.
A friend of the family has been having issuesd with his new Vista Home Basic-powered wireless-enabled desktop (Linksys wireless router and USB adapter combo) and brought the computer and adapter (but not the router) to me for a checkup. Since I was already running Vista on my own computer, and also had a wireless Linksys router (albeit one used strictly as a *wired* router), I figured I'd give the router and adapter a test and see how easy it would be to connect.
Since I left the *wired* connection up so I could get some settings from the router's admin pages, it was depressingly easy to convert this previously wired-only PC to a true secure wireless (WPA no less) desktop, using nothing more than what's included in Vista. Six mouse-clicks (and a copy-and-paste) later, and I was done.
Old (four years old) PC, three year old router, gone secure and wireless (G for now).
Maybe I *should* consider N as an upgrade.
Wireless: it's definitely not (just) for laptops anymore.

You have to change the workgroup in Vista from WORKGROUP to MSHOME and your XPs will appear under network.

Reboot from XP(32bit) into Vista(64bit) makes X-FI output noise, why is that?

Happened a few times and now I think it's triggered from working in XP and then rebooting into Vista.Restarting Vista(reboot) doesn't seem to help, but powering down/shutting my PC off and then go into Vista seems to make the problem go away.Changing modes in Vista didn't make it go away, but I noticed the noise went away, when I choose "Audio Creation Mode"(didn't try play anything so don't know if it was able to). And was present in "Entertainment Mode" and "Game mode". If it helps you, I usually start up in "Entertainment Mode". First time it happened, I nearly fried my(expensi've) acti've studio speakers(not to mention my ears ). And afterwards, I never turn on my speakers before verifying with my headphones, that the sound coming out, is ok! I'm thinking the X-FI isn't properly "reset" when rebooting from XP, and therefore needs to be shut completly off, before being ready to be properly initialised under startup in Vista. Is there others with a dual setup (XP/Vista) that have experinced something similiar And more importantly, is this a known problem with a known fix/workaround(besides the one I mentioned of course ) Cat

Hey m8, I got the exact same setup as you have softwarewise and have the exact same problem. I used to reinstall the drivers each time this crap happened but I'll try your suggestion and try a cold start the next time. As for a solution I'm afraid I can't offer one, seems like customer support on all fronts is going down the drain. Nvidia, Creative, EA, THQ, all seem to be forgetting their roots and just looking to rake the dough in. However, if I find anything interesting I'll keep you posted.

(SOLVED) Display brightness disappeared from Power Options in Vista, Lenovo G530

I used to be able to adjust display brightness in Vista from Control Panel > Power Options. I could set how bright when on battery and how bright when on AC. Also, it used to be that when I unplugged power cable it would automatically adjust my brightness according to those settings. Now, nothing happens when I unplug power cable, not even a beep.
Possible problem is as follows, but let's keep an open mind to other things as well. I spilled beer on keyboard recently. ONLY on keyboard I am sure. I replaced keyboard with something that fits but something that isn't made for my laptop, has different arrangement of Fn+ keys. Basically ever since the beer accident and ever since I replaced keyboard I had this brightness issue.
Please help me solve this.

I solved this problem..
Solution is to upgrade the BIOS to latest version. I am not sure actually whether latest BIOS had the needed fix or not, or it was just the process of updating the BIOS that solved this issue. But no doubt, after flashing the BIOS, display brightness function reappeared!

Can't open cp file from laptop with Windows Vista

I created some files at work using XP and copied them to a jump drive. (Captivate 4)
I've installed C4 at home using Vista on my laptop. I tried opening the cp files and none will open. C4 opens, but stays on the normal open page. I've copied them to the laptop drive and it still won't open them. I've tried opening by double-clicking the file, and by opening C4 and attempting to open them from within. Nothing. Any suggestions?

Thanks, the Vista is 64 bit, the XP is not. Actually, I'm using the laptop to record new audio, so I don't have to get the audio from the XP machine. However, another problem has arisen and that it when I try to record in C4 on the laptop it doesn't work. It asks if I want to test and then nothing happens, the test window doesn't open, and then when I hit the record button again, nothing happens. I've downloaded Audacity and it records fine, so I'm going to save those files and import them. This has been one nightmare after another. Thanks for your suggestions.

Cannot print to PDF from IE 7 in Vista

I am trying to print to a PDF from IE 7 running on Vista using Acrobat Pro 7. Every time that I try it, it tells me that "This file is being saved to your temporary internet files for your security" (paraphrased) and gives me the option to open the folder. When I do, there is nothing there and I get an error message in my printer window. I believe that I can turn off the "protected mode" and get around this, but is there any way to specifically allow Acrobat to have permission to run without lowering my security? Thanks.

1. Correction - the deployed machines are running 10.1.7 (not 10.1.17)
2. The majority of our machines are running 32bit, I have not tested the 64bit installations to see if they exhibit the same problems.
3. I didn't expect that printing to an open pdf would be possible. The point was that in attempting to do so, no error message is generated and the pdf printer / IE hang. Closing the open pdf does not release them. Anyway, I suspect this is a separate issue and af far less importance to me.
I've had to be away from the office most of today so have not done much more testing. I'll update as soon as I have.
