Upgarading my 8520 curve software to os5 or 6

Is it possible to upgrade the software of my Blackberry Curve 8520 software to one of the latest OS's? Where can I download the software and how do I install it? I live in South Africa

Hello,
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
4) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
Don't forget to backup.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

I am unable to open pdf file in my blackberry 8520 curve. Can anyone help me in this regards. The mobile does't have any pdf reader pre installed. Do we need to install software, if so please send me the link to download or the software itself.

PDF files can be easily viewed as an attachment to an email.
If you are wanting to view a PDF file downloaded to your Media Card, you will need a third party application, such as PDFtoGO, BeamReader or Repligo. Google will find any of those three for you.
    Good luck.

    Hi bhogendra75,
    Welcome to the Community,
I agree with your concern but if an authorize service center says so then there is a little chance of getting it on road,But if you still think that there is no liquid damage then you can try a few things to reassure yourself, and I also think that there is no problem in trying,So we can just try for that have a look :
1.First make sure you have your backup.

    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:Carriers ( but make sure it is of the same device model)
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:

  • I need a clean OS reload (with /nojvm) on my 8520 curve but Apploader doesn't detect any OS.

First of all thanks in advance.
I have a 8520 Curve and whenever it turns on the white loading bar appears and it gets stuck (for hours upon hours) on 2/3.
When I try to update the Device software from the official site it ALWAYS gets stuck at "reconnecting to jvm". Even when I start the installation with the battery pulled out.
So I figured I should manually use the AppLoader with the /nojvm option.
I installed DM7 and the version of the OS corresponding to my vendor but my problem is when I use loader.exe it NEVER recognizes ANY software/OS and there is nothing to install.
I tried downloading different versions of the OS or versions of other vendors in my area. I even tried deleting all vendor.xml files but still nothung.
Any advice solution would be welcome please feel free to ask for any additional information
edit1: during the installation of any OS on my desktop I get an error message saying
"Error 1406.COuld not write value Flags to key \Software\Research In Motion\AppLoader\SearchPaths\{hexadecimal nuber that varies}.Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
I have administrator privillages and I can edit the registry manually too.
edit2: If I click  "add" on the apploader and select any .alx file from those installed on my system I get a message saying that the application isn't supported from my device.

    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • Blackberry 8520 curve hangs, suddenly white screen comes and the only solution is to re-insert battery with power source on?

My Blackberry 8520 curve suddenly hangs giving a white screen and when i restart it - the screen remains white. After i put it into charge - then only a successful start is done. So the only solution as of now i have - is whenever my blackberry hangs - i need to remove the battery - insert it again - and immediately put it into charging via USB/Electric-Power. Even if i re-insert the battery - the white screen comes - unless and until i put it into charging Earlier i was guessing - my battery was weak - but no such problem. pls advise.

  • Hindi Language in Blackberry 8520 Curve

    Hi there,
I am unable to see hindi posts/fonts on blackberry 8520 curve.
Please assist me how to get this done.
    Regards

Its a mere perception that Blackberry 8520 Version 5.xx doesn't support Hindi or Indic fonts.
Visit the following url from your Blackberry handset having operating system version 5.0 and above, including old Blackberry device 8520
    http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23613317/A_HindiFont/hindifont4bb.jad
     dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23613317/A_HindiFont/hindifont4bb.jad
    Download hindifont4bb.jad file
You can download the Indic font for Blackberry and install it. You will be able read and write Hindi characters on your handset.
    Please confirm if it works.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shivshankar

  • Cannot access my internet browser on 8520 curve

    Please cannot someone help me.
Over the past two days I have not been able to access my brower (8520 curve), can someone please explain why? I can enter a www address but it just reads "loading", the little black box in the top right corner flashes then stops, disappears and nothing else happens.  I end up closing it the browser down.
I would be very grateful if someone could help.
    Thanks.

    Hi there!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your carrier for formal support.

  • Zoom for 8520 Curve

    Hi,
Seem to be having problems getting a zoom lenz for a 8520 Curve blackberry, the one with lenz on corner of phone.
Is there such a product? - I have found an ebay item (6x Zoom Lenz and Tripod) but seller can not tell me if it will fit the CURVE version and it does not look like it will.
Some info on a lenz zoom for this blackberry model would be cool!

    no takers?
