Upgarded Oracle database works incorrect with Turkish Characters

Hi All,
I have upgarded my database from oracle version 7.3 to 8.0.6.
My new database in oracle 8.0.6 works incorrect with Turkish Characters, displays incorrect.
I tried creating new oracle database in oracle 8.0.6, not upgrading as above, this database works well with Turkish Characters.
Please help me to fix above problem in my upgraded database.
Thanks in advance.

  • Problems with Turkish characters not displaying correctly

    A user is having problems with certain Turkish characters in particular fonts not displaying correctly (as shown below).
    The two fonts (Gill Sans and Helvetica LT CondensedLight) are used for English language marketing material.  Ideally, for continuity, the same font would be preferred for our Turkish language marketing material rather than changing it to a similar font.
    Helvetica LT CondensedLight
    Turkish character “ İ ” does not display correctly in either Word or InDesign.
    Gill Sans
    Turkish characters “ ş ” and “ ğ ” display correctly in Word but not InDesign.
    My questions are:
    1. For Gill Sans, why are the characters not displaying in InDesign but are in Word?
    2. I've noticed here: http://www.webtype.com/font/gill-sans-family/#glyphs-tab that the required characters are available within the Gill Sans font.  Is this because the font is newer and includes the additional characters?  Would this work in InDesign?

    One of the big differences between InDesign and Word is that Word will happily substitute glyphs without telling you. So, unless your installs of Word and of InDesign are using different versions of Gill Sans (which is possible, BTW) then your s-with-cedilla and your g-with-macron are actually not in Gill Sans but in some other font. I'm guessing Arial.
    It's possible that you have more than one Gill Sans installed (e.g. one in your Document Fonts folder and another in your system fonts folder) that have different glyph complements. Gill Sans has been around a long time, and the version I have from the 90s has no Turkish support whatsoever.
    As far as the capital-I-with-dot, you can check your glyph coverage in a variety of ways. In both InDesign and Word, you can open up a window that shows you all of the glyphs in a font. In InDesign, find it in Type -> Glyphs. In Word, it's called "Insert Symbol" and you can find it in Word 2010 by going to Insert -> Symbol -> More Symbols. I am guessing that the answer to this question is simply that your cut of Helvetica LT has no cap-I-with-dot. You'd need to pick a font that actually has support for Turkish. On WIndows, I use a very full-featured freebie called BabelMap to check font coverage. They have a Web version here:
    http://www.babelstone.co.uk/Unicode/babelmap.html
    but I personally prefer the downloadable .exe file.

  • Connection to non-Oracle databases(MS Access) with Discoverer

    Hello guys
    I am new on this Forum. I am working with Oracle Discoverer and I will like to know how I can connect from Oracle Discover Administrator 4.1, to a non-Oracle database (on Microsoft Access or Dbase).
    Please help me
    Thanx.

    hello,
    to connect to a non-oracle datasource, you have to use OCA which
    leverages ODBC for that connection. this happens when the report
    is executed in the engine, no matter if it is run in client
    server or web. if you run it via web, you have to have the ODBC
    drivers installed on the SERVER, of course !

  • Question about Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL

    Hello,
    I've read that:
    This course is a combination of Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals and Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units courses.
    In order to preparing for this exam, i should read the student guide, so there are 4 pdf files. One is Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals, and the other 3 are regarding to Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units (volume I, II and III). My question is, regarding to this last one (Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units), which volume should i read? I saw that volume I has 400+ pages, and the IIIrd ~80.
    Which document should i read? What's the difference between them?
    Thanks!

    Passing the exam and becoming certified are not a matter of simply reading a book or taking a training class. While books and classroom materials as well as in-class training are all important steps in preparing for an exam, experience and research are just as important. I cannot tell you that there are 53 questions on the exam and every single question maps directly back to page 13, paragraph 3 in XX book. However, If you have the classroom material, and you have the list of exam topics, you should be able to find most of the information you need. In some cases, if you are not completely familiar with a specific topic, or you don't feel like the information in the book gives you all the information you need, you may need to do a little additional research. This is all part of preparing for an exam. This process is what makes you successful as a certified professional.
    Your focus seems to be solely on the course materials that you have and what volumes and chapters you should read. I'm trying to give you a different perspective - preparing for an exam is not necessarily about taking one course or reading one book and being ready. You need to review the exam topics and be sure that you are familiar with each topic.

  • Oracle Report Server Issue with Japanese Characters

    We are trying to setup a Oracle Report Server to print the Japanese characters in the PDF format.
    We have separate Oracle Report servers for printing English, Chinese and Vietnamese characters in PDF formats using Oracle Reports in the production which are running properly with Unix AIX version 5.3. Now we have a requirement to print the Japanese characters. Hence we tried to setup the new server for the same and the configurations are done as same as Chinese/Vietnamese report servers. But we are not able to print the Japanese characters.
    I am providing the details which we followed to configure this new server.
    1.     We have modified the reports.sh to map the proper NLS_LANG (JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8) and other Admin folder settings.
    2.     We have configured the new report server via OPMN admin.
    3.     We have copied the arialuni.ttf to Printers folder and we have converted this same .ttf file in AFM format. This AFM file has been copied to $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/gk/JP_Admin/AFM folder.
    4.     We have modified the uifont.ali (JP_admin folder) file for font subsetting.
    5.     We have put an entry in JP_admin/PPD/datap462.ppd as *Font ArialUnicodeMS: Standard "(Version 1.01)" Standard ROM
    6.     We have modified the Tk2Motif.rgb (JP_admin folder) file for character set mapping (Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8) as we have enabled this one for other report servers as well.
    Environment Details:-
    Unix AIX version : 5300-07-05-0831
    Oracle Version : 10.1.0.4.2
    NLS_LANG : JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8
    Font Mapping : Font Sub Setting in uifont.ali
    Font Used for Printing : arialuni.ttf (Font Name : Arial Unicode MS)
    The error thrown in the rwEng trace (rwEng-0.trc) file is as below
    [2011/9/7 8:11:4:488] Error 50103 (C Engine): 20:11:04 ERR REP-3000: Internal error starting Oracle Toolkit.
    The error thrown when trying to execute the reports is…
    REP-0177: Error while running in remote server
    Engine rwEng-0 crashed, job Id: 67
    Our investigations and findings…
    1.     We disabled the entry Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8 in Tk2Motif.rgb then started the server. We found that no error is thrown in the rwEng trace file and we are able to print the report also in PDF format… (Please see the attached japarial.pdf for your verification) but we are able to see only junk characters. We verified the document settings in the PDF file for ensuring the font sub set. We are able to see the font sub setting is used.
    2.     If we enable the above entry then the rwEng trace throwing the above error (oracle toolkit error) and reports engine is crashed.
    It will be a great help from you if you can assist us to resolve this issue…

    Maybe 7zip or another tool has workarounds for broken file names, you could try that.
    Or you could try to go over the files in the zip archive one-by-one and write it to files out-1, out-2, ..., out-$n without concerning yourself with the file names. You could get file endings back via the mimetype.
    This script might work:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <zip.h>
    static const char *template = "./out-%04d.bin";
    int main(int argc, char**argv)
    int err = 0;
    zip_t *arc = zip_open((const char*)argv[1], ZIP_RDONLY, &err);
    if(arc == NULL)
    printf("Failed to open ZIP, error %d\n", err);
    return -1;
    zip_int64_t n = zip_get_num_entries(arc, 0);
    printf("%s: # of packed files: %d\n", argv[1], n);
    for(int i = 0; i < n; i++)
    zip_stat_t stat;
    zip_stat_index(arc, i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED, &stat);
    char buf[stat.size];
    char oname[sizeof(template)];
    zip_file_t *f = zip_fopen_index(arc, (zip_int64_t)i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED);
    zip_fread(f, (void*)&buf[0], stat.size);
    snprintf(&oname[0], sizeof(template), template, i);
    FILE *of = fopen(oname, "wb");
    fwrite(&buf[0], stat.size, 1, of);
    printf("%s: %s => %lu bytes\n", argv[1], oname, stat.size);
    zip_fclose(f);
    fclose(of);
    zip_close(arc);
    return 0;
    Compile with
    gcc -std=gnu99 -O3 -o unzip unzip.c -lzip
    and run as
    ./unzip $funnyzipfile
    You should get template-named, numbered output files in the current directory.

    What do you expect - us having crystal balls that will tell us what interface methods and protocols your SMS Gateway support?
    Find out what the API is for that Gateway and then we can talk of how to use that API from PL/SQL.
    But not knowing the API.. how on earth should we know what to from from a PL/SQL perspective to interface with it? Does it use a TCP interface? Named pipes? RPC calls? DCOM calls? Corba? SOAP? JMS?
    There's a huge number of very different types of interfaces that service software can support. Without knowing what that interface is, it simply is not possible to tell you how to use that interface from PL/SQL.

  • HP EVA6000 with Oracle Databases

    Hi Everybody,
    Does anybody work with HP EVA6000 and Oracle Databases on RHEL?
    We have the following situation (everything is 64bits):
    1) Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.7 on RHEL4 U2 using 4 local disks RAID 0 (15000rpm each). With the following results:
    - Acceptable database performance, it needs some sql tuning but performance is acceptable for users
    - Normal user response time
    - Normal active sessions for peak time.
    2) Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.7 on RHEL4 U2 using HP EVA6000 with 16 disks (10000rpm each). I am not an HP EVA expert but what i know is that is configured with 4 Disk Groups for Oracle Database (VRAID1). With the following results:
    - We expected same or better performance, but it was not our case. We only migrated local storage to HP EVA storage.
    - Performance starts degrading in 30 minutes when users begin doing their work, we start killing some users, we start getting more active sessions and they stay active for a long time, more "buffer gets"....in general not acceptable performance for users and business.
    - We have exact # of CPU, exact RAM, exact OS configuration, exact SGA Oracle configuration...the only change is the new storage.
    What we need is an advice of HP EVA6000 users working with Oracle Database (specially 9i on RHEL).
    HP Support says it is a RHEL problem, Oracle Support says it could be an HP EVA configuration problem, nobody gives us a workaround or explanation just to confirm what it is happening.

    Hello Miguel,
    now we changed to a HP EVA6000. And we have the same problems like you described.
    Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.7 on SLES9 (both 64bit) using a HP EVA6000.
    Now we have a lot of buffer gets and a bad overall performance.
    Could you solve the problem?

    Hi,

    can you please provide the information to optimize the memory consumption when using the oracle.

    What memory in Oracle? Shared pool? Buffer cache? PGA? UGA? Library cache? Something else?
    What memory in Sybase did you compare it to?
    What type of client-server connection to Oracle was made? Dedicated or shared?
    What commands/method were used to determine the memory consumption in Oracle and then Sybase?
    What serves as the baseline for comparison?
    Comparing product A with product B is a COMPLEX thing to do. And IMO, beyond the abilities of the majority of developers - as they lack the technical expertise to extract usable metrics and correctly compare these between products that can work VERY differently.
    And unless you can provide technical details to backup your claim that you are observing that "+Memory consumption is more with oracle database compared to Sybase+", I would say that you have no idea what you are actually observing and in no position to deduce that Oracle consumes more memory.

    Yes there is. You have to create heterogeneous connection between these two databases

    Hello,
    I started with Oracle Database XE 11g, with apex, did the upgrade to Apex 4.2.6 and started in developing a small Application.
    I wanted to Connect to my Computer A (with Database runing on it) from another Windows 7 Computer B.
    So I put in in Firefox: //A:8080/apex but I only received a timeout.
    Of course on both Computers there is a windows-Firewall running, so I stopped on both Systems the Firewall, but its the same still.
    In the windows explorer running on Computer B , I can see the data of Computer A and both Computers are in the same home-net-group. (sorry for my poor english).
    Is there anyone who cann tell me how to get the Connection running ?

    They mention about Oracle Pipe...whats that?

    What is the "other database" being used for? Are you using it for disaster recovery? To offload reporting? Something else?
    Are you trying to replicate the entire database? Or some subset (a schema, a handful of tables, something else)?
    What version of Oracle are you using on the source? What database are you using on the destination?
    Are changes allowed on both databases? Or do you just need a master/ slave architecture?
    What is the acceptable delay between a change being made on the primary and that change becoming visible on the destination?
