Upgradation Minimum sp level & kernel level for SAP 4.7 to ECC 6.0

Hi,
We recently created a test box , copy of devolopment.
We are running on SAP 4.7 with sap_basis and sap_abap with sp level 46.
SAP 4.7 with kernel release 640 and kernel patch version 155.
Oracle 9i.
What is minimum support pack level and kernel patch level required to upgrade from sap 4.7 to ecc 6.0.
As per threads it looks like kernel patch version should be 175.
Can any one guide me with sap note which provides the info of minimum sp level and kerenl patch level.

The source system requires a certain support package level (that is described in the upgrade guides) because the tools that to the import require them.
So the easiest way is to check the upgrade guides and the mentioned notes which is the minimum support package level for the source system to start the upgrade.
The target level must be at least equivalent or higher.

Kernel NW740 for SAP Web Dispatcher

Hello,
where and how can I find the correct kernel "NW740" for my SAP Web Dispatcher installation?
I proceeded like this:
Software Provisioning Manager -> SAPinst -> SAP Netweaver 7.4 -> MS SQL Server -> SAP Systems -> Standalone Engines -> Web Dispatcher.
Now during step 2 "defining parameters" I need to provide a software package calles "Kernel NW740". My server is a MS server 2008 x64.

Is it this one:

We have installed ERP 6 Ehp 4 with SAP kernel 7.01. Is it possible to upgrade kernel to version 7.20 without upgrading other components (basis) to Ehp 5?

Hi, this is so called Rolling Kernel switch.
you can replace to the release 720 without much problems. I have done this in release 710.
However, could exist some situations that you have to update the support package like in my case that I had the short dump DDIC_TYPELENG_INCONSISTENT after the kernel update. You can check further details in note 1636252.

Hardware requirements for SAP ERP 2005 using ECC 6.0

Hello everyone,
i am already new and need information about the min. hardware requirements for a SAP ERP 2k5 System using ECC 6.0 with IDES 7.10.
I read the Master Guides about ERP, but i am not even more clever than before.
The OS is MS Windows 2k3 Server EE.
The last information i had from another one to this configuration is:
1 dual-core cpu (? Ghz)
4-6 GB RAM
300 GB HDD
Does it fit? Can anyone help me out?

IDES 7.10?!?
If it's an IDES system you want to set up, HDD space may be the bottleneck. It's sufficient for installation, but you may run out of disk space since note <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1013391">1013391</a> states

Since IDES is for education and training purposes only the rest should be sufficient.
I'm running an ERP 6.0 IDES system (32 bit) on a single core, 3.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB System and 500 GB SAP/DB HDD with pretty good response time.

RAID Levels for SAP BW

I need to know if different raid levels are recommended for SAP BW than for other SAP applications such as R/3. We are having load performance issues and RAID is one area we are looking at as a potential improvement area.

Hi Jeff,
due to the fact, that SAP has included BI (BW) into NetWeaver, there could no different recommendations for BI and ERP (R/3). I would recommend, that you first should try to find out if you really have an I/O problem.
If you want to find out if you have I/O problems, use TA ST04->"detail analysis" to get the I/O times of the database. On an Oracle system you can get the I/O times on volume level down to the data file level. You'll find the I/O times in milli seconds. You should check if your I/O times are more or less the same on all of your volumes. If not may be you should move some files to disks with lower I/O times.
Normally I/O times should below 10 ms. I/O performance is not good or bad, only you can decide if the performance is good enough or not. As a rule of thumb I would say, that the performance is the better, the more disks you are using. But on current I/O subsystems you have plenty of parameters to vary. Number of disks, stripe size, striping on OS or subsystem level, RAID level, cache size and file system parameters (logging, buffering ...).
As a hint, we run systems on different I/O subsystems and we have I/O times between 12 ms down to 0.8 ms. Needless to say, that the costs of the different systems varies a lot. The 0.8 ms could not be achieved by using only disks, you can only achieve it be using huge caches independent of the RAID level. RAID 10 (1+0) is probably better if you have a lot of random I/O, from a price performance perspective RAID 5 could be better because you have more active disks (more disk space) for the same amount of money.
The bottom line is, you have to decide yourself if your I/O is good enough.

Kernel version for my sp levels

I am running SAP server 6.40 on Solaris (64bit EX2 for Oracle) with 327 Kernel Version.
I have work processes that crash when executing a specific abap program.
As it may take time before sap dev support find the bug, I would like to test
with an old kernel (319) on my DEV system.
I would like to ensure that my support packages can run with the 319 Kernel.
Where could I find the minimum version of kernel needed by a support package level?

The OSS message has been opened last week.
The other options are also to downgrade as we suspect that it is a new bug.
This is why I have posted my original question.
Do I have a way to find out if it is ok to run HR 5.00/SP 79 with Kernel 327?
Another option is to upgrage only the dispatcher & work process as I can get a version above 347:
dw_355-10004725.sar
But I am not very familiar with these upgrades.
Can I use dw_355 with my 327 other binaries?

Row Level Security not working for SAP R/3

Hi Guys
We have an environment where the details are as mentioned below:
1. Crystal Reports are created using Open SQL driver to extract data from SAP R/3 using the SAP Integration Kit.
2. The SAP roles are imported in Business Objects CMC.
3. Crystal Reports are published on the Enterprise as well.
3. Authorization objects are created in SAP R/3 and added as required for the row level security as mentioned in the SAP Installation guide as well. The aim is when the user logs into the Infoview and refreshes the report he should only see data that he is meant to so through the authorization objects.The data security works very much fine when the reports are designed directly on the table but when the reports are built on the Business View it doesnt work hence the user is able to see all data.
Any help in this issue is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
In order for row level security to work for you using the OpenSql driver, you need to configure the Security Definition Editor on your SAP server. This is a server side tool which the Integration solution for SAP offers as a transport.
This tool defined which tables are to be restricted based on authorizations.
However since you are seeing the issue on reports based on Business Views, you need to identify whether the Business View is configured in such a way where the user refreshing the report is based on the user logging into Infoview. If the connection to your SAP server is always established with the same user when BV is used then you security definition is pointless.
You can confirm this by tracing your SAP server to identify what user is being used to logon to SAP to refresh the reports.

Dear all Professional level Certification aspirants in SAP CO module,
I have recently passed the Certification test on SAP Management Accounting (CO) module in version ERP 6.0 EHP4. I have more than 4 years experience in SAP Controlling module.The following are some of my suggestions regarding preparation for the exam.
1. All the questions were scenario based. The exam tests expert level knowledge and real time scenarios in the module. The theoritical knowledge is not sufficient to clear the exam. Unless you have atleast 5 to 6 implementations in Controlling module, it is not advisable to give it a try.
2. Detailed knowledge of the system configuration settings about the various courses mentioned in the syllabus is required. One needs a clear understanding of Special costing functions, ERP integration, Transfer Pricing, Material ledger, New GL Parallel valuation, Planning and Budgeting fuctions in various components etc.
3. The exam tests in-depth knowledge about various integration aspects of Controlling module with other modules. The advanced master data functionalities of other logistical modules like MM, SD, PP, PM, QM, PS, CS, HCM is tested in detail.
4. Several methods of process and performance optimization of the system are also tested.
3. Some reporting aspects of BW and BI are also tested. The cross application aspects of the system are also tested.
4. The exam also tests the real time skills in preparing Blueprints, Business Process design and trouble shooting the system. Being knowledgeable about some of the processing errors and message classes will be of great help.

the pass mark for the exam is 58%. However it may be different. The passing mark shown on your screen on the day will be the correct passing mark.
All the questions were scenario based which would involve high analytical skills and through understanding of the system integration. It would be difficult to tell any specific question. The questions carry different weightage. If you answer the questions with less weightage correctly than the questions with more weightage, you end up scoring less though you answer more number of questions correctly. and it is vice versa. Go through your syllabus and cources and try to concentrate on the topic areas which contain more weightage.
Moreover, the exam is not completely technical in nature. It tests a lot of analytical and problem solving skills required on the job.
Note:Please do not ask the questions or contents of the exam as they are confidential.

Create an install CD for SAP GUI Windows Patch Level 4

Hello,
I would like to create an Install CD for SAP GUI 720 for Windows with Patch Level 4
so that my user just install once.
From the market place, I can download Patch Level 0 distribution.
It is a Zip file that I can extract and use to generate an Install CD.
But it is LVL 0 only,
Then, I can download the Patch 4 executable file.
Unfortunately, the only way I can go to patch 4 is to execute this new program on my installed GUI.
Is there a way to generate, or even better download, an install CD that would contains the PL4?
so that the user just does one install and does not have to run the patch executable after the install.
If yes, how can I do it?

You can do that using an installation server, you can create a single .EXE file and burn in to a CD for the user.

We tried to do that in the last 15 years we're doing SAP, unfortunately there come always situations, where you don't get around installing patches on PCs. This is especially true for BW, where the tools used depend (more or less) to the patchlevel of the backend system. However,

The patch dates/weeks are listed in "Note 1053737 - Expected release dates for SAP GUI for Windows & ITS Patches", however, they are estimates.
I would assume that the next compilation will be released with Business Suite 7i2010 (or whatever name it is actually). Those compilation CDs are neverless always at least one patch behind the actual one.

I am not working in retail, but the docu found in the initial screen clearly says it is without special stock.
however, it says as well, if you need functions that are not provided, then you shall use MI31 instead.
first I would open a call at SAP and tell them that WV31 does include consignment despite of different info in the docu.
if it is a bug, then SAP will fix it.
If it is design, then you have to use MI31, and SAP may change the docu in future releases.

Checking Patch Level of BI AddOn for SAP GUI 7.10

I am looking for a method to check patch level of BI 7.0 add-on module for SAP GUI 7.10. Currently we have installed the latest BI patch (bi710sp09p_901-10004472.exe) via SAP installation server. How can I find out if this patch was successfully installed on clients? Thanks for your help.

You can collect log's from remote mashine, try to read in
Installation Server Help.chm --> Controlling Remote Workstations .
In log folder Setup --> check for example SapBiWksta.xml
Also you can use some script to check the version of BExAnalyzer.exe file, if you can some
product for this. User can check if need himself in help ->info.

Common problems on User Level for SAP Support

We are working on an RFP for SAP support. The client is having an existing helpdesk where key users or super users try to resolve the issues. If the same are not resolved at this level, these issues are escalated to Level-2 Q which is specific to the SAP functionality and / or component. For identifying the correct functionality and / or SAP component, scripts are to be used so that the issue gets escalated to the right Q.
We are looking for a list of common problems that occur at the User level so that the same may be translated into a hierarchical model for logging on the user requests to the relevant support Q. Anybody having worked on a similar proposal or having any insight on the subject, may please contact me.
