Upgradation of SMC Server

Dear All,
We are running a SMC server with version 3.5.1 in a Solaris 8 machine in our setup which is monitoring our more than 60-70 servers which are also running 3.5.1 agents. Now as because of some problems, we have to replace our Old SMC server to a new server.
Now my question is that if we will install Solaris 10 in the new Server and install from the scratch the same SMC server version 3.5.1 in this system, will it be compatible with all the other agents which was being monitored earlier by old Server, or what are we supposed to do to make it work.
The second question is that if I will install SMC server version 3.6 , will it be able to monitor agents with version 3.5..
And is it possible to install 3.5.1 on Solaris 10 machine.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Sysops,
Now my question is that if we will install Solaris 10
in the new Server and install from the scratch the
same SMC server version 3.5.1 in this system, will it
be compatible with all the other agents which was
being monitored earlier by old Server, or what are we
supposed to do to make it work. Yes it will work. You es-backup your current config.. install SunMC 3.5.x on the Sol10 system, then es-restore into it. There's a couple extra steps if the IP will change, but it's covered in the migration guide:
http://www.sun.com/software/whitepapers/solaris9/sunmc_datamigration.pdf
The second question is that if I will install SMC
server version 3.6 , will it be able to monitor
agents with version 3.5..Yes, all SunMC Servers are backwards-compatible with all older Agents. Your Server could be 3.6.1 and the Agents 3.0 and it work fine.
And is it possible to install 3.5.1 on Solaris 10 machine.3.5.1b will work, but if you're going to upgrade I recommend you go straight to 3.6.1. It has better support for Solaris 10, and many fixes not present in 3.5.x or 3.6. Also, you can run a 3.6.1 SunMC Server inside a Sol10 whole-root local zone.... which makes it very convenient if you ever want to also use your new Sol10 box for other things... since SunMC is already happily walled off in it's own little partition. 3.5.x Servers won't install or run in a local zone.
You can also es-backup your 3.5.1 Sol8 system and upgrade it to 3.6.1 first if you want. That way you'll see that it is backwards compatible... then use the migration guide to put that 3.6.1 Sol8 Server on the Sol 10 box (or in a zone on it). Some customers prefer to do things in 2 stages like that... it's a bit more work... but you keep the upgrade and migration steps separate and distinct. It makes troubleshooting easier if things go wrong.

  • Upgrading to SMC 4.0? Clean Slate.....

Current environment is SMC server 3.6.1, with various agents versions running on clients. Running ver 3.5, 3.6 and some older servers
running Solstice Enterprise Agents. As I try to move this environment from the state I inherited from, to something stable, I've run into
multiple stumbling blocks. So looking to upgrade the server, and also the agents to one version. Since the server will be upgraded first,
I'm assuming that the 3.5 and 3.6 agents will be able to communicate with SMC 4.0 Server. Will the Solstice Enterprise Agents continue
to work? For the client agents, plan on moving them to 4.0 by removing the current agents and install fresh with 4.0, with the exception of the older 2.6 systems running the Solstice agents. Just sending this out to see if this is the course to take and if anyone ran into any bumps
    along the way?
    Thanks.

  • How to make upgrade from application server and not from central instance?

    Hello SAP Gurus!
I have SAP ECC release 6.0, and I´m gonna make upgrade to enhancement package 6.06, do you know if Can I make upgrade from application server, but not from central instance?
    Thanks.

    Hi Victor,
Upgrade process has to execute from the server where message server is running.
So I guess it is not possible to initiate the SAP upgrade  from application server.

  • I am upgrading to Calendar Server 4.0 on NT with more than 9 nodes (or I already have) and my server won't start

I am upgrading to Calendar Server 4.0 on NT with more than 9 nodes
(or I already have) and my server won't start.
    <P>
The steps are the same whether you have already upgraded or are about to.
    <P>
Calendar Server 4.0 on the Windows NT platform can only support up to nine
nodes on one server, while 3.51 supported up to 14. If you have a Calendar
Server 3.51 with more than 9 nodes that you want to upgrade to Calendar Server
4.0, Netscape recommends that you migrate the extra nodes to another Calendar
Server 3.51 on another Windows NT system. To accomplish this:
    <OL>
<LI>Install Calendar Server on another Windows NT machine and configure it to
use the same directory server as your current Calendar Server.
<LI>Stop and backup your current Calendar Server.
<LI>Individually zip up the node directories you want to move to the new
    server. (drive:\unsers\unison\db\Nx
where "x" is the number of the node you want to use.)
    <LI>Stop the new Calendar Server.
<LI>Unzip the files into the new Calendar Server in the same place as they
    were on the old server.
    <LI>Edit the unison.ini
file on the new server to add the nodes you have just migrated.
    <LI>Edit the unison.ini
file on the old server to remove the nodes you have moved to the new server.
    <LI>Edit the nodes.ini
file on the old server to remove the nodes you just moved and then add them
with the new hostname. Keep in mind that you will only be able to modify the
node network from the old host.
    <LI>Run unidbfix -export
on both servers for all nodes.
    <LI>Edit the remotenodes.ini
file on both servers to reflect your node topology.
    <LI>Run unidbfix -import
to import the changes into the node databases.
    <LI>Run unidbfix -c,
    then -f,
    then -c
again on both servers for all the nodes.
<LI>If you don't get any errors, run uninode -test all
to test if your nodes connections are set properly. If they are not, <B>do not</B>
start either of the servers; instead, fix the errors and try again.
    <LI>Start both servers.
<LI>Log in and check to see if you can see people on remote nodes.
<LI>Notify the users on the moved nodes of their new calendar host.
<LI>If you did this in preparation of an upgrade, you can now run the upgrade to
4.0 since both servers contain fewer than 9 nodes.
    </OL>

Use Disk Utility whihc is in the Utilities Folder.
Select your Boot Disk on the left.
    Select Verify Permissions
If any errors the do Reapir permissions.
You might have to repeat the process.

    Hi,
Generally such kind of issues are caused by third party programs such as CD burning programs, device driver etc.
First please refer to this article to see if there is anything helpful:
Guide for Upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff972408(v=ws.10).aspx
Meanwhile from the description, it mentioned a file under  C:\Windows\winsxs. Check the permission of the folder amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6002.18005_none_676975d87cc9b6e6 and the file wcp.dll to see if the permission
and ownership are correct compare with the other folders.
Also as it provided 2 minidump files, you will need to use WinDBG to read the minidump files and see if there is any further information.

  • Upgraded ZENworks Primary Server Will Not Refresh

    Good Afternoon,
I recently upgraded our primary server from ZENworks 11.2-11.3a.
The upgrade procedure completed with no errors. However, the server will not refresh it's status in the ZENworks Control Center. Control Center continues to report the server as 11.2.0.0. The UI of the Control Center is upgraded. The agent continues to push back the next contact with server time without updating the last contact with server time
    Things I have tried:
-doing a manual refresh through control center gives a "Connection Failed" error
-doing a manual refresh with zac ref completes successfully but does not update anything
-cleared the agent cache using zac cc
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do you upgrade OS X server 4.0 to another drive after installing on primary drive

I've upgraded OS X Server to version 4.0 after installing the Yosemite OS X. As usual, the server does not work properly after the upgrade. I've installed Yosemite on another boot drive to rebuild the system. I'm trying to upgrade the new install of Yosemite to the Server 4.0 version but when clicking the upgrade button, it just sits there with the wheel spinning. Has anyone seen this and how can I get the copy downloaded again to install version 4.0 of OS X Server?

I appreciate both of your prompt replies. According to the following support page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107037), I only needed OS X 10.1 or later (more specifically, it says that 10.0.X or earlier cannot be upgraded without erasing). This page was directly referenced by this page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270) which is on the very post that Ferd referenced ("10.4 Tiger Upgrade: Decision tree+Checklist" at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121773). I can find nothing on official Apple websites that says anything about needing OS X 10.2 to upgrade to 10.4. The bottom line is that most of my harddrive is consumed with my music (approx 15 MB) and there is no convenient way for me to back it up or move it without buying an external hard drive. It just seems absurd to me that in order to use my new $300 iPod that I need to both invest $120 in new software and then another $100-200+ in an external hard drive so that said new software can be installed over my existing data. It's really bad enough that Apple gives you no charger and no case for the iPod, charges you for new software versions, and then makes their new software so incompatible that you have to erase your hard drive just to install it. Exactly why do people love their Macs over their PCs? If I have to buy an external hard drive, why shouldn't I simply take all my data off of my iBook and be done with Macs forever?

  • Solaris 10 x86 - SMC server not starting

    No solution yet ...

Starting Solaris Management Console server version 2.1.0.
    endpoint created: :898
Solaris Management Console server exiting: internal initialization failed: Initialization failed for service com.sun.management.viper.services.Authorization.
    Any idea?
I have a basic Solaris 10 setup, with Entire Collection selected.
My graphic card is not working so I had to install in text mode and access X remotely.

I believe this is a fault in the crypto file that is mentioned in the Yahoo X86 posting, namely pkcs11_kernel.so. I have a possible workaround for this. Try looking at:
    http://www.webmin.com
This is a free Web-based management tool that has most but not all of the functionality of the SMC. I tried downloading and installing the Solaris package from their download page, but this didn't work. What I eventually did was remove the package and download and install the generic Unix version, which was webmin-1.160.tar.gz as of when I downloaded it. The only gotchas to watch for are to run the setup.sh script and select Sun Solaris as the O/S, then select Solaris 9 as the version (they don't technically support 10 yet). I have been able to add users and groups and manage the disk without problems.
