Upgrade 11i (11.5.10.2) to R12 (12.1.3)

Hi all,
I am starting to upgrade my EBS from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1 then to 12.1.3 on AIX 6.1 Operating System in Test instance. Any advise steps and recommendations.
I've check the Doc: Oracle EBS Upgrade Guide Release 11i to 12.1.1 and I am facing below issue :
1) Do we must to upgrade the DB to 11g as the Oracle desupport issue or want to reduce downtime?
2) Do I need apply 11i.AD.I.7 and 11.ATG_PF.H.Rup7 patches first?
3) And do I need to convert the application/DB to Multiple Organizations before upgrade? Any guideline?
4) There is no any customization, how much downtime can you experience?
The below is our system configurations :
Server : AIX 6.1 (Test instance / Prod. instance) - Single node
DB : 10.2.0.3.0 (non RAC)
APPS : 11.5.10.2 (non multi-org) :
- use Financial (GL, AP, AR, FA) only
- The lastest applied patchsets:

11i.AD.I.4
11i.BNE.C

mult-org not enabled

I found below the list of docs, any advise steps and recommendations? And please suggest me which of the below document I need to follow?

  • Upgrading 11i Payments to R12 Payments

    Hi All,
We are now on Oracle EBS 11i [11.5.10.2] and Database 10g [10.2.0.4] now and we are planning to upgrade to R12.
We want to upgrade the all payment formats and templates to R12.
    We have couple of questions..
    1) How can we upgrade the reports(payments sent to Banks) to R12?
-- I know we need to use the e-text templates to achieve that, but my questions is , we have RDF files in R12 which fetches the data for us and have different RDF files for different layouts. So will it be the same case in R12 as well.
    2) I have heard about common data extract in R12, how do we get that, what all changes needs to be done for that to have common data extract for all the Layouts(Templates).
Can you also please share if there is any document created to achieve this requirement.
    Thanks,
    S.

  • Upgrade our Apps 11.5.7 to R12 manually

    Hi,
I have an idea to upgrade our Apps 11.5.7 to R12 in manually.
Here I am describing Method. Please suggest me I am Wright or wrong?
    Current Configuration:
    Apps Version 11.5.7
    DB Version: 8.1.7
    Single Node, Single Use rsetup
    Up gradation Path
    Apps Version R12
    DB version 10gR2
Should be same Single node and single user setup
I want to upgrade my Apps manually and want to follow following steps:
Please suggest me can we upgrade our Apps to R12?
    Method
    ·     First we will install R12 (Application and DB both) on the "existing box “.
    ·     Upgrade database. (Manually)
    ·     Backup entire (11.5.7) APPL_TOP, COMMN_TOP/HTM and COMMN_TOP/JAVA
    ·     Restore all Above file in new R12 Appl_TOP
    ·     And confiner tier R12 instance.

    Bob,
Definitely, neither did i say that. There have been some major improvements, since base 12.0.0.So, better we go with 12.0.4 then to 12.0.6 instead of 12.0
I didn't say 11.5.8, i said i tried 11.5.8/11.5.10.2, which implies i tried both but neither worked out for me.It all depends on their env's. I had a SR with Support in fixing autoconfig, it was going front and back for a month and still could figure out what the issue was. Then i said forget it and went on to R12.0 directly. And later patched it to R12.0.6I do remember you did this upgrade, we had many emails discussing some issues with your upgrade, and you ended up with 11i --> 12.0 --> 12.0.4
Frankly, even support had doubts on this. When i raised an SR, stating i'm coming from 11.5.7, the first thing they would do say is : This path is not supported, then i had to point them to the R12.0 upgrade doc. There is no doubt at all when it comes to 12.0.4 as you need to be on 11.5.8 or above, it is clear.
I never said to stop at R12.0, R12.0.6 should be the final destination as of now. I pointed the OP to upgrade to 12.0.4 instead of 12.0 which I believe is the proper upgrade path based on experience with this upgrade.
I only meant to say *11.5.7 can be upgraded to R12.0 directly*
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B34956_01/current/acrobat/r12upg11i.zip
That's right, and I do agree about this. But, I never referred to 12.0, so please try to read my replies again.

    Hussein

  • EBS upgrade 11i to R12.1.3

    Hi Hussain,
we are currently on 11.5.10.2 and looking for upgrade to 12.1.3 (LATEST RELEASE)
    my concern are
    - i need to shortest patch for upgrade , minimize the downtime as much as possible
    - can we upgrade directly to 12.1.3 without prior 12 releases?
    - can we upgrade technically only and keep the functional as in 11i without changes and gradually upgrading module by module?
    - please share the MOS for EBS upgrade from 11i to R12.1.3 if any.
many thanks for your help and support
    regards
    Raj

You will have to upgrade to 12.1.1 then upgrade to 12.1.3
Technical upgrade only won't be sufficient and you will need to consider the functional changes.

  • Upgrade 11i ---------- R12 on laptop

as i have dell studio 1545 with 4 GB ram , I can assign max 2.5 - 3 gb RAM for this vm ware workstation.
Can i do EBS 11i installation on this and then upgrade this to R12 ?
Is this possible and somebody have done it ?

Can i do EBS 11i installation on this and then upgrade this to R12 ?
Is this possible and somebody have done it ?For 11i, it would be enough but when you plan to upgrade to R12 you will find it slow and your patch workers may hang. Also when running R12 as you might notice a bad performance in the application. It is always recommended to have at least 4 GB only for Oracle E-Business Suite R12 (apart from the memory you dedicate to the OS).
