Upgrade 2003 R2 Domain Schema containing OCS 2007 R2 to 2012 R2 schema

Hi all,
I'm planing to upgrade my 2003 R2 forest to 2012 R2 schema version. I have OCS 2007 R2 and Exchange 2010 SP3 installed in the forest. I think there will be no issue for exchange after upgrade, but i'm worring about OCS 2007 R2.
Can experts provide me more details about upgrade domain containig OCS 2007 R2 to Directory Service 2012 R2 ?
Many thanks.
Mustapha.
Mustapha EL HACHIMI

Thanks,
But, the article doesn't mention compatibility with 2012 r2.
I did a test in a lab. It shows that ocs 2007 R2 is not supported in 2012 R2 AD.
So before you upgrade your forest to 2012 R2, upgrade OCS 2007 to LYNC 2013 and then remove OCS from the forest.
Microsoft says not supporting OCS 2007 in a domain 2012 R2 and also you can't install OCS 2007 in a 2012 R2 server.
Hope this can everybody planning to upgrade ad containing OCS to 2012 R2.
Best regards

  • Decommissioning 1st OCS 2007 R2 FE after deploying Lync 2013

    Hello,
We have done a successful deployment of Lync 2013 that interoperates with OCS 2007 R2. Now we want to start decommissioning OCS 2007 R2 step by step. We have four OCS pools on different sites and I want to decommission the first OCS. 2007
r2 FE. I´ve tried to follow the deactivation order suggested by different bloggers and MS site:
    http://www.ucprofessional.com/2011/04/decommisioning-ocs-2007-r2-after.html
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd572548%28v=office.13%29.aspx
However when I want to deactivate any service like Application Host or A\V Conferencing Server I receive the next message,
even if I have domain\enterprise admin rights as well as RTCUniversalServerAdmins membership :
Remove Active Directory Object CN=UC AppServer Services
    Failure
    [0x80070005] Access is denied.
Remove Active Directory Object CN=LS AV MCU
    Failure
    [0x80070005] Access is denied.
We have a parent root domain, and this FE is joined to one of its child domains. I still have other three pools but I don´t want to touch these other three until I can decomm this first FE and its pool. I don´t have any users in this.
How could I deactivate these services on this first FE server and have my AD clean? what might be happening that the deactivation process doesn´t do its job?
    Thank you for any feedback.
    MC

Is the account you used to deactivate OCS 2007 R2 Servers in root domain or child domain?
Your problem is more of a permission issue.
Try to use an account created in root domain to deactivate OCS 2007 R2 servers.

    Hello All,
       Case 1 -In place upgrade
I would like to do in place upgrade from windows 2003 64 bit R2 that contains SSRS 2008 to windows 2008 R2 64 bit. The upgrade would be happened at OS level not at SSRS level.
I would like to know what are the  necessary steps should be taken  prior/during/post  upgrade from SSRS end  as we can not rollback if there is some issue with in place upgrade.
      Case 2-Side by side upgrade
I would like to do side by side migration from windows 2003 32 bit  that contains SSRS 2008 to windows 2008 R2 64 bit. The side by side  would be happened at both OS level and  SSRS level.

Before doing anything Take backups .
    In case of reporting services..
Back up your symmetric key. For more information.

  • Upgrade from OCS 2007 to OCS 2007 R2 and Lync 2013

    Hy friends!
    Help me, please!
Scenario: Migration from OCS 2007 RTM to OCS 2007 R2
Target: Keep user contact list (I'm talking about only OCS contact list from internal organization users, I'm not refer about external addresses)
Question: I want to know if when I move a user from OCS 2007 RTM to OCS 2007 R2 the user contact list is also migrated?
If Yes, can you share the Microsoft documentation that describe it?
So, after I migrate the users to OCS 2007 R2, finally I can do a supported migration to Lync Server 2013.
    Thanks in advance.

If you do a side-by-side migration the contact lists (and other user data) should remain intact. If you tear down OCS2007 and then install OCS2007R2, then you will need to use dbimpexp.exe to export the contact list from OCS2007.

  • Adding a new FFL 2012 trusted domain to a Exchange 2007 domain with a FFL 2003 domain

My organization has decided to create a new forrest and domain.  We will be creating a two way trust between the current 2003 forrest & domain and the new 2012 forrest & domain.  For now, only a few of our users will
log into the new domain, but we still want them to be able to access their email in the 2003 domain and have their emails come from the 2003 domain.   There are no Exchange servers in the new domain, users will just authenticate to the
    new domain.
Besides creating the accepted domain policy and new email policy, is there anything else that will be required?
    Thanks in advance
    MikeV
    Thanks, MikeV MCSE 2012

In Exchange 2003 there is no "accepted domain policy" or "email policy", just recipient policy.  And you only need to do that if you're adding a new e-mail domain.  Further, in many cases you can probably just modify the existing policy.
A one-way trust with the server domain trusting the account domain is all that should be necessary.  You will have to grant full mailbox rights and send as rights on each mailbox to the corresponding user account.
Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
We added the trust, but Exchange doesn't see the new domain.  I've tried both the EMC and powershell (add-mailboxpermission useralias -user"newdomain\alias" accessrights-fullaccess)  error says "user or group not found please make sure you
    have typed it correctly"
What else needs to be done for Exchange to see the new domain and users?

  • OCS 2007 to OCS 2007 R2

    Hello world.
Doing a side by side migration from OCS 2007 to OCS 2007 R2 (due to our goofy SA agreement cannot upgrade to 2010 or Lync yet) and I am following the step by step guide here:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd572505(office.13).aspx
My question is this...can I have two disparate SRV records referencing TLS...one pointed to legacy and then a new one pointed to the new server?  What will happen with my clients?
This is an internal only deployment...no edge servers...no director...etc.
I have the domain prepped and when I launch setupse.exe I get all the way to the end and it rolls back because it cannot create the pool as it does not exist and there is no SRV TLS record to reference the pool.
We use OCS 2007 extensively throughout the org day and evening so I need to be able to get the new SRV records and pool inline without impacting production.
Can anyone shed some light on how I move forward?  Been over the documentation and Google/Bing quite a bit and have yet to find a sufficient answer.
Thank you in advance MS community!

    Hi crashIO,
No, the DNS SRV record can point only to a single pool, and in a mixed environment the supported configuration is to use Office Communications Server 2007, Director, with both Office Communications
Server 2007 and Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pools. This means that during migration, you should configure DNS records to point to the Office Communications Server 2007 Director or FE.
Before installing the OCS 2007 R2 pool, did you move your OCS Global Settings from the System Container to the Configuration Container in Active Directory.
“With Office Communications Server 2007 R2, the default container for Office Communications Server global settings is the Configuration container. In previous versions, the default container
was System container of the root domain.”
If you did not perform this step, please follow the article below to do this.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd572392%28v=office.13%29.aspx
In addition, in order to co-existence with OCS 2007 R2, please ensure your OCS 2007 Servers are up-to-date.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • OCS 2007 compatibility with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

Hi, we have OCS 2007 installed on our Windows 2003 R2 Standard X64 Production Server and are moving to Windows 2008 R2 X64.
I've been looking at a few support articles out there (e.g. http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/982021) and noticed that they're saying it (is) compatible.
I would appreciate a definite answer from you experts out there on this so I'll know definitely if we can proceed with our upgrade or not.

To be clear, if this is OCS 2007 R2, then yes it will run fine on Server 2008 R2.  If it's OCS 2007 (not R2), that would not be supported.

  • SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 CLIENT upgrade

    Hi,
We have some Windows XP machines with a SCCM 2007 client, connected to a SCCM 2007 server. Meanwhile some client are already migrated to Windows 7 but still connected to SCCM 2007 (and their packages/collections).
    Now we would like to:
-migrate the Windows 7 machines to SCCM 2012 and keep their packages (so no re-run of advertisements) run
-migrate the Windows XP machines by migrating the SCCM 2007 clients then advertise a task sequence (Windows 7) to it
    Questions:
-should we push the sccm client from 2007 or from 2012 server to keep the membership of collections?
-if we have to push from 2007, please advise howto: use ccmsetup.exe, the msi (is this the way to go: http://blog.metasplo.it/2012/10/how-to-upgrade-sccm-2007-clients-to.html)?
    Please advise.

I would like to test with a cmd, so I made an install.cmd which contains.
    @echo on
    Cscript ConfigMgrStartup.vbs /ConfigMgrStartup.xml
    pause
    Then I edited the configmgrstartup.xml:
*Commmented lab1 since I'm not sure what to put there, why put a machine name and why the forward slash?
    I'd expect domain\administrator.
*Commented out hotfixes since we don't need it
Launched the cmd but nothing happens, no loggings either.

  • Migration to Lync 2013 from OCS 2007 R2 - queries

We are currently running OCS 2007 R2 across Citrix Presentation server 4.5 and Desktops using just IM functionality.  We are looking to upgrade to LYNC 2013 for IM and to start using Group Chat.  We currently have a Physical OCS front end server,
a physical server running SQL for the DB's and then a physical server running the Archive OCS component.
How easy is this to do?  Would we keep the same Pool name?
Can the OCS client be used to connect to Lync 2013?
Can we move the physical servers into VM's?  Do we need 3 or can we have all on one VM now?
The SQL DB part can this now be hosted on a stand alone SQL cluster in its own instance if required?
LYNC IM and Group Chat client - is it supported to run on Citrix Presentation server 6.5?
    Is a Schema Update required?
Are there any good walk throughs on the internet just covering IM and Group chat migrations etc as from what I have been seeing there are some out there but have voice in them as well.
    Thanks.

In addition, the presence and IM features in Office Communicator 2007 R2 are compatible with Lync Server 2013, but conferencing features are not. During migration from Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Office
Communicator 2007 R2 is suitable for presence and IM interoperability, but users should use Lync Web App 2013 to join Lync Server 2013 meetings.
Q: Is it supported to run on Citrix Presentation server 6.5?
A: check the official document at http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX138408
    Is a Schema Update required?
Yes, schema update is required. See

  • Migrating to Lync 2013 from OCS 2007 R2 ... to unprep or not to unprep

I've been reading on TechNet that I should unprep the domain and forest after decommissioning / uninstalling all OCS 2007 R2 server roles:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd572243(v=office.13).aspx
...but then, in other places (such as blogs and TechNet forums), I've read not to unprep the domain and forest if Lync 2013 is already deployed:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/6b8cd7ca-fe67-418b-ae66-5be682d8d2d6/unprep-ocs-2007-r2-domain-and-forest-with-existing-lync-installation?forum=ocsplanningdeployment
    http://www.ucprofessional.com/2011/04/decommisioning-ocs-2007-r2-after.html
Would someone please clarify what to do here and why?

While I haven't personally done a deep dive on everything it does, my understanding is that's it's more than just a simple mod to the system container.  For example, from the OCS decommission article you referenced: "Running
Unprep for a domain removes the access control entries (ACEs) granted to Active Directory universal groups".   Lync still uses the same RTCUniversal groups, so touching it at all with Lync in production as well could be bad.
Forest prep actually creates these groups:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd441353(v=office.13).aspx  That said, I haven't seen an unprep referenced in the migration from OCS to Lync docs, and the doc you referenced is specifically for completely removing OCS from your environment
where these groups wouldn't be needed.  So, while I can't tell you exactly what all it does, I really wouldn't mess with it unless you have a strong reason to or are willing to rebuild Lync to get a few old objects out of the system container.

  • Windows CAL server 2003 and Domain Server with a 2008 server as domain member

We have a Windows Server 2003 as domain controller with 70 user CALs, and we have added a Windows 2008 R2 OEM with 5 users licences.
I have no plans to migrate my domain controller 2003 to 2008 but the 2008 is a member of the domain and I need to know if we are fine with the licences.
    Thanks for your help,
    Alejandro Sueldo

    Hi
    You need CAL for anything that would access the 2008. If a server that is accessed by only 5 user you are ok, but if like a Exchange for your 70 users, then you have to buy more CAL. (that link explain it good;

  • OCS 2007 r2 new users are unable to sign in Help!!!

a little background: we had an issue with our domain controller and had to flash a backup image that we took 2 weeks prior. after we got everything setup correctly again and added users that were not there when we took the image backup. it all seemed
fine, until we had to add some new hires. now when I add new users and configure them correctly with in OCS and active directory the user cannot sign in. from what I have read it could be a replication error, but when I try to force replication it fails. as
we rely on this service for our business it is very frustrating. I have ran the validation tool and this is what I get.

Depending on how you rolled back Active Directory, you may have entered a situation called "USN Rollback" where your rolled back DC stops replicating with the rest of the DC's in the infrastructure.
This will cause issues like what you are experiencing, and much worse in the long term, such as machines getting dropped from the domain, and user password becoming inconsistent, since you're essentially maintaining two copies of your domain that cannot
    talk to each other...
    Here are more details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875495
I'd recommend resolving the underlying AD issue by removing the restored DC from the infrastructure (you may have to force demote and remove metadata). Once AD is 100% functional then you can start troubleshooting OCS sign in issues, but my guess is they
will resolve themselves once the restored DC is removed.
    Hope this helps,
    Gonzalo

  • Java Enging upgrade from CRM 5.0 to CRM 2007

    Hello all,
we would like to upgrade our CRM 5.0 System to 2007 (MS SQL Server 2005, Windows 2003 X64) and now we have a problem when we want to upgrade the JAVA Engine. I've got an error in Phase READ_AND_CHECK_ADMIN_PASSWORD in Java Prepare programm. A possible reason, says the system, is that the J2EE engine is not started. I must say that we have an ABAP and Java System and there are some ABAP workprocesses in the SAP management console but I cannot see any J2EE processes under "J2EE Process Table". Is that normal? I have no idea. I worked with the system perfectly, therefore I thought that this was not a problem, but now, after this upgrade error I'm not certain any longer. In which cases do we need Java processes anyway? Can/shall I uninstall the java component if we don't need it? If yes, how?
    Thanks for your help.

The upgrade process is asking for a mounting point on iSeries. Removing the Windows drive letter Y: solved the issue. The correct mounting point was /BASISDVD/.......

  • Re-routing Edge servers from OCS 2007 R2 to LYNC 2010

We have LYNC 2010 Enterprise pool with merged topology with OCS 2007 R2 Pool, using OCS 2007 R2 Edge servers. We would like to move onto LYNC 2013 and here i have some questions on Edge servers.
    1. Once I migrate all users, can i keep OCS 2007 R2 Edge servers and decommission OCS 2007 R2 pool to setup LYNC 2013 Pool? ( we have 3 Front end servers and 3 CWA servers in OCS 2007 R2 pool).
Can i use OCS 2007 R2 edge servers for LYNC 2010 and LYNC 2013 Pools for federation and remote access?
    Thanks for your help.
    Tek-Nerd

I've seen OCS 2007 R2 servers work for Lync 2013 internal users with some limitations.  I'm not sure what would happen if you decommission the OCS front end.  However, why not upgrade the edge as well?
