Upgrade 2003 site to 2008R2

Hi,
I have a windows AD forest with 2 sites. One of the site (HQ primiary site) i have already upgraded to windows 2008R2. The remining branch office site which is site2, i have single domain controller windows 2003. What is the best and fastest way to
get it also 2008 and turn all the forest be 2008 AD?
Can I upgrade the site2 server in-place upgrade? I was installed this server (2003) through IFM (install from media) method. Is there any special procedure to upgrade this server to 2008?
Helpful advise is much appreciated. Thanks.

The main thing is to ensure that your services are migrated over.   DNS, DHCP, certificate services, any FSMO roles, global catalog. There are a few guides out there such as
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755937(v=ws.10).aspx but none may hit everything you need.
Basically, I'd build a new 2008R2 box and promote it to DC status.
If the old server was a global catalog server, I'd make sure this one is too.
If the old server hosted DNS, I'd install that on the new server as well.
If the old server hosted DHCP, I'd either recreate the scope if it's simple or migrate it and decommission the scope on the 2003 box:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2008/06/27/steps-to-move-a-dhcp-database-from-a-windows-server-2003-or-2008-to-another-windows-server-2008-machine.aspx  and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962355
If FSMO roles exist on the 2003 box, I'd move them over as well.
Change the DHCP scope to reflect the new server as a DNS server if needed.
Change the IP of any server/printer/device that may use the old server for DNS.
Move any remaining software, file shares or services to the new server.
Use DCPromo to remove Active Directory from the 2003 server, and remove from the domain.

Trying upgrading from AD 2003 to AD 2008r2.  When  examining their environment tried to change the domain function level (as a test) and got the message that I could
not because one or more servers was at domain funcion level 2000.  When I got detailed info the server name is blank.  There are only 2 domain controllers in th domain.  Both of them are 2003 servers.  One crashed and was rebuilt.
FSMO roles are on the rebuilt server.<o:p></o:p>
Need to get the function level to 2003 so  can extend the scema and install the new

Remember to do a full backup of your domain controllers with nt backup before doing any domain work.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322692/en-gb
I think you will need to raise the forest level first.
Example: Preparation tasks before the level increase
In this example, the environment is raised from Windows Server 2000 mixed mode to Windows Server 2003 forest mode.
Inventory the forest for earlier versions of domain controllers.
If an accurate server list is not available, follow these steps:
To discover mixed level domains, Windows Server 2000 domain controllers, or domain controllers with damaged or missing objects, use Active Directory domains and the Trusts MMC snap-in.
In the snap-in, click Raise Forest Functionality, and then click Save As
    to generate a detailed report.
If no problems were found, the option to increase to Windows Server 2003 forest level is available from the
"Available Forest Functional Levels" drop down list. When you try to raise the forest level, the domain controller objects in the configuration containers are searched for any domain controllers that do not have
msds-behavior-version set to the desired target level. These are assumed to be either Windows Server 2000 domain controllers or newer Windows Server domain controller objects that are damaged.
If earlier version domain controllers or domain controllers that have damaged or missing computer objects were found, they are included in the report. The status of these domain controllers must be investigated, and the domain controller representation
in Active Directory must be repaired or removed by using the Ntdsutil file.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

  • Need suggestions for upgrading discontinued site templates.

I have a Budgeting and Tracking Multiple Projects (PROJMULTI#0) site template. What would be an equivalent or similar template that I could convert this too?

Microsoft is not creating new versions of these templates. Environments that contain sites based on these templates can be upgraded as long as the templates are installed. But there might be issues when you try to upgrade the site collections. Make sure

    Hi,
I have done share point 2013  upgrade .Portal is running with  fully functional SP2010 site collation,on SP2013 server.
Before doing site collection upgrade, I wanted to create a Demo Site (Evaluation site), so I can verify that everything is working fine in  SP2013 mode.
I started the creation process of Demo Site try Site Upgrade page by powershell command because my portal is more than 300 GB space,so by wizard we can not proceed
    Request-SPUpgradeEvaluationSite http://server/sitecollection
After that I started timer job named "Create Upgrade Evaluation Site Collections job " on that web application. This time job ruining contentiously  from last 2 days, three days has passed since than, and demo site collection hasn't been
    created.
I tried to check status, using Get-SPSiteUpgradeSessionInfo command, but it has return nothing. I tried using Site and Database switch, but nothing.I checked the database server and got db is just double of existing DB now with same .snp file.
Again I try to execute request command, it said that it is still working.
My question is either how to stop this demo creation and release the database, and start the permanent upgrade, or how to find some status or some info in log files that could point me in some direction, that could help me to create demo site.
Again today i had stop and start the same Timer job.. still running

  • Create Upgrade Evaluation Site Collections Timer Job does not send notification Email when the Site is created

    Hello Everyone,
    My problem is:
The Create Upgrade Evaluation Site Collections job does not send a Notification Email when the Eval Site is created. I only get a notification E-Mail that mention that a Upgrade Evaluation Site Colletion is requested and then after 27 Days that the Evla
Site will be deleted in three Days.
    My Enviroment:
SharePoint Foundation 2013 Sp1 on Windows Server 2012
    Exchange 2010 SP3
    I hope someone can help.
    best regards
    domschi

    Hi domschi,
As I understand, you didn’t receive email generated from Create Upgrade Evaluation Site Collections timer job. While you might receive email generated from Delete Upgrade Evaluation Site Collections.
When you request an evaluation site collection, the request is added to a Timer job
which runs once a day. You will receive an e-mail message when the upgrade evaluation site is available. This might take up to 24 hours. The message includes a link to the evaluation site. Upgrade evaluation site collections are set to automatically
expire (after 30 days by default).
Please go to CA > Monitoring > Review Job Definitions, locate issue timer job and click Run Now. Then go to Job History and check if the issue job failed to run.
Also, please check if the email are received by Exchange Hub server.

  • SP2010 to SP 2013- Try a Demo Upgrade- Does the upgraded demo site visible only to the site administrators?

    Hi,
We have recently migrated from SP 2010 to SP 2013. The migration ran successfully and the site is now in SP 2010 UI Compatibility mode. Before we actually upgrade to SP 2013 UI, we would like to 'Try a Demo Upgrade'. Please do confirm if the upgraded demo
UI will be visible only to the site collection administrators or to all the users of the site.
Thanks in advance for the reply.

As per my knowledge upgraded view is available for all users not just administrators. Check below:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/20682.sharepoint-2013-upgrade-a-site-collection-user-interface-and-powershell.aspx
If you want to try upgrade then create a new web application and try demo upgrade on that site.
If this helped you resolve your issue, please mark it Answered

  • Looking to Upgrade 2003 to 2008R2

We have 5 small sites, that have each (2) 1U 2003 SP2 servers. The services that run on 2003 is a DC and the other server is DHCP and Print Services. File shares and home directories are located at the main office server.
So now I would like to go down to one server for each site, and run instead of a DC just a RODC and print services and DHCP. Also maybe a local common share folder.
My question is I should be able to get away doing this with Windows 2008 R2 Standard, correct? This will happen over a weekend where I shutdown 2003 server bring up the new server and rename the new 2008 the same name as the 2003. In renaming the
server, can I setup RODC service before the renaming or after I rename the new 2008 server?

Well I going down to 1 new server for the remote sites. That's why I figure I go with RODC and not a DC.
The other question is running RODC and print services and DHCP. Also maybe a local common share folder. That should be fine to run all together on a 1U new hardware.

  • Upgrading Hyper-V Server 2008R2 Cluster to 2012R2

I have a Hyper-V Server 2008R2 (free 'core' version) cluster that I would like to upgrade to Hyper-V Server 2012R2 (same 'core' version).  I found
this document that seems to outline the process, however I have the following questions...
Any reason this process won't work on the "core" version of Hyper-V.  i.e. "Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008R2".  I currently have a 2-node 2008R2 HA cluster with "core" servers and am looking to migrate that cluster
to the "core" version of 2012R2.
Is there no way to do this "in place", meaning without a dedicated target server?  It seems like the process assumes you just have extra servers sitting around that can act as targets.  I suppose I could shuffle VMs off one cluster node,
evict that node from my current cluster, rebuild it with 2012R2 core, add it to a new cluster as the only node and carry on with the process outlined here?  Once all VMs are on the new "cluster" of one 2012R2 node, I would destroy the original
cluster, rebuild those machines with 2012R2 and add them as nodes to the new cluster?
Any reason the "Failover Cluster Manager" tool, version 6.1, I've been using to manage my 2008R2 environment won't work to do the migration?  Or are there new 2012 tools I need to have installed on my workstation.  Remember, since this
is the "core" version I can't manage anything from the server.
    Thanks,
    Todd

Here's an update on what happened...
The first VM that failed turned out had 1 snapshot, which I know is a no no, but I generally never snapshot servers so it didn't even occur to me to check.  So that's why the migrated VM wouldn't boot.  When I recreated the VM manually and pointed
to the VHD file it obviously didn't include the AVHD content so it booted the server into a 2 month old state.  That led to the domain problems since the AD server account password had changed sometime in the last 2 months.  I tried a bunch of fixes
but the only thing that finally worked was to remove the server from the domain and re-join.  Of course, that then broke Citrix, but that's getting off-topic.
The second VM that failed was because for some reason a CSV that it relied on was not migrated over and I didn't notice that in that in the report.  And then I couldn't find any way to bring that CSV in after the fact.  I re-ran the pre-migration
and it still didn't show it.  Of course this is my biggest volume at 800GB.  So I then re-mapped one of my old cluster nodes back to the LUN (after removing the new node), brought up the lost CSV, copied the VHD file on it to external media, brought
the old cluster down again, the new one up and was going to blow away that LUN and create it as a new CSV on the new cluster.  Of course, when I went to go create the CSV it showed my LUN available for storage and I just had to add it and all the data
was brought with it.  So 2 hours of copying for nothing!  I'm not at all sure what happened with this problem, but it seems either rebooting the old cluster node or the new one jarred things lose.
Just wanted to report back saying everything is going again.  And also to vent about how poor and riddled with pitfalls this migration is.  The snapshot issue is ridiculous, how hard would it be for the tool to check for that and then throw an
    error in the migration report?
For anyone that needs to upgrade from 2008 to 2012, good luck!

  • After iOS 8 upgrade, web site stopped working

I upgraded to iOS 8.0 (12A365) on my iphone 4S (Model: MD276LL/A) this evening.  The problem is ONLY with Safari on my 4s after I upgraded.  It worked fine before I upgraded, since I had tested it for someone else. It works fine with my computer with both Safari and FireFox.
I use a web site that has scrollable (multipage) frames. I cannot scroll in the framed sections of the website. Anyone else with this. www.GolfMission.Com is the site.
If you go to www.GolfMission.com, select "2014 Results & Std." from the left column, then select "2014 Net Averages" from the central framed area, you will get a multipage pdf document.  It should normally be scrollable.   It does not show scroll bars and only the first page is visible in iOS 8 Safart.
    1) Does anyone else have this problem (several of us do)
    2) How to I report it to Apple?
    3) Is there a fix for my iPhone, or a recommended a change to the Website?
    4) Can I get out of iOS 8 ????  I used to love apple.
    Thanks in Advance.

    stevejobsfan0123,
    Thank You for your attention.

    2. Depends on your answer to the above.
    3. It's up to the webmaster to change their website.
    4. Downgrading is not supported.
I upgraded to iOS 8.0.2, this am, the problem remains the same as with 8.0.0.
The problem was NOT there before I upgraded to iOS 8.
    1. Does it happen with all PDFs, or just from this one site?
         Answer:
The same .pdf file is multiple page viewable on my iPhone when viewed outside of
              the Website context (http://www.golfwebsite.ws/14493/Documents/2014%20Net%20Average.pdf).
No, it only happens when the pdf is in the scrollable area of the website, as far as my problem goes.  I think it is a "Frame" construct in the web site.
It happens in MANY places on the web site (where there is a scrollable frame)
The Scroll Bars and other functionality of the "Frame" do not appear as they should and the first page is just presented as a fixed image.
Attempts to scroll move the whole page up and down.
The same PDF works (roughly) when viewed outside of the context of the web page.
    3. It's up to the webmaster to change their website.
It worked fine on my iPhone before the upgrade to iOS 8.0, and it works fine with Safari on my MacBook, and with FireFox on my MacBook.
This appears either to be a bug, or an upgrade that makes this website, and I'll presume many others obsolete only for iOS 8 Safari, but not for any other browser.
Over one hundred people use this website daily and they are complaining about it.  All are iPhone users, and all started complaining yesterday.
I'm not trying to be smart, but shouldn't the iOS 8 browser stay consistent with the MacBook Safari, and all the other browsers in this regard.
    4. Downgrading is not supported.
         Unfortunately, I'm aware of this.
Can anyone add to this?  Thanks in advance.   The website and all are provided for testing in this thread.

  • DW CS3 Upgrade - Old sites from DWMX

I just upgraded from Dreamweaver MX to DW CS3. How do I get
my sites to show in the pane, with local and remote views? I can
navigate to the folders, but that view shows all folders on the
drive, not as individual sites I can choose in the dropdown as
    before.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I couldn't
find the answer in the online help and the book DW CS3 book I
ordered hasn't arrived yet (just got the software yesterday).
    Thanks!

So - when you look at the Files panel, you do not see any
    sites listed in
the sites list? This means that your sites didn't migrate
    from DWMX
(although they should have, I believe). This would have
    nothing to do with
    the Macromedia/Adobe thing, though.
Anyhow, if that's the case, then go back into DMX, and using
    Site manger in
DW, one by one EXPORT your site defintions to some location
    on your drive.
Then go back into CS3, and IMPORT each of those definitions.

What do I need to install and what changes to the web.config do I need to make to have my reports continue to display via my website?

First, you need to download the new SDK - it's no longer available as part of the Crystal Reports install.
To do this go here:  http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7824.  Download and install the latest version of the "Install Executable" to get integration into Visual Studio.  The other installs are the runtime installs - select the appropriate runtime install for your environment.
Now you have to upgrade your application to VS 2010 or newer.  There are some changes to the SDK, so you can't just replace the assemblies in your existing application's configuration.  DO NOT compile as "any CPU", you need to specifically target either x86 (32-bit runtime) or x64 (64-bit runtime).  If you target the 32-bit runtime (which will run on a 64-bit server!) and you're using ODBC, you'll need to create 32-bit ODBC connections on the server.  In any case, when working in VS, you'll need 32-bit ODBC connections for testing.
