Upgrade 4.5 to 9i OR 10g

What is the advantage upgrading forms 4.5 to 10g over 4.5 to 9i ?

I would consider 10g, 10g has more new features over 9i but is still based on the same Required Support Files so there should be no great risk in terms of differences in PL/SQL versions.
Check out otn.oracle.com/products/forms for more details on the 10g new features.

  • After upgradation from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g,one proc is throwing error

recently upgraded from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g. We have some Oracle procedures which are not working in Oracle 10g.
A section of code from one of the procedures looks somewhat like the code below:
    Declare
    Cursor c_matched_records (…..) is
    Select a.field 1, b.field2
    From table1 a, table2 b
    Where a.field3=b.field1
    FOR UPDATE;
    BEGIN
    For records in c_matched_records
    LOOP
    -- Continue processing
    -- Update records
    COMMIT;
    END LOOP;
END;This section of the code throws out the following error in Oracle 10g
ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence during PUT outputFile file
However this code was working fine in Oracle 9i.
    please help me with this?
    Thanks

I believe you are lucky that the pl/sql is okay in Oracle 9i. How about remove the commit statement? Why do you need it in the loop. I look up metalink. You may refer to article ID 257914.1

No, you must use the imp utility from target database which is 10g.

  • Client Upgrade issue in Oracle Lite Database 10g 10.3.0.3.0

    Hi all,
Details: My Environment is Oracle Database 11g R1(11.1.0.6.0) With Oracle Lite Database 10g R3(10.3.0.3.0) on Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2.
Recently i have upgrade my oracle lite database from 10.3.0.2.0 to 10.3.0.3.0 and also applied recent opatch (p12812978_103030_Generic.zip). Upgrade and installation of opatch got successfully completed. When i tried the client synchornization for the very first time (FCS and Data Download) FCS and Data Download got Successfully completed but the problem is usually Once the FCS and Data Download Got Completed , Screen goto webtogo home page but in my case i am getting a screen name called "client upgrade" with options yes or no if choose yes it prompting please wait screen nearly for 1 hours i am not getting any response from the screen. if choose no simply it goto my webtogo home page. Please Note before choosing the yes option i have checked what version i am currently having it show 10.3.0.3 i don't know why it asking for the client upgrade. Please Advice me on this how to avoid this screen (Client Upgrade).
    Thanks
    Shan

    Hi,
i am not upgrading the existing environment of Oracle Lite Client i am creating a new environment which doesn't have the Oracle Lite Client. In the document itself they have mentioned like this "These steps assume that you have a 10g Release 1 or 2 Branch Office environment already configured and synchronized. If you do not have this environment currently configured, you do not need to upgrade." To be Clear What i am doing is with help Oracle Lite Branch Office i will be downloading a user from Mobile Server for that i have to do the following
1.FCS(Fresh Client Setup for that i have to run the setup.exe which is coming for Oracle Lite Branch Office) and
2.Data download (Data will be get download from Mobile Server in the form of odb),
    3. Usually Once the FCS and Data Download got completed, the screen will goto the webtogo home there i can see my branch offlice applications.
    4. But in my case i am getting prompted by screen and the screen name called "Client Upgrade" with options yes or no if i choose yes screen got hanged else if i choose no then only screen moving the webtogo home page. Say can u r having existing environment in your machine due to some reasons u have upgrade or u have installed optach on the mobile server in that case while doing the client synchronication we can do the client upgrade by running the update.exe becasue client side will having the old binary file we need to renew it.
    5. But I am not upgrading the existing environment. I am creating a new environment which means i am doing a fresh client setup and synchronization for the very first time. While doing the FCS on my client side for the very first time i will be getting the latest binaries rite then why the screen is moving to client upgarde page i don't have any idea on this.
    Please Advice.
    Thanks

  • Oracle Upgrade 8.1.7.4 to 10g in Red hat linux

    Dear All,
We are planning to upgrade our oracle database from 8i to 10g along with the Redhat linux upgrade from  2.4.9-e 27 ent to Red Hat Linux 5. In my study and also from Installation guides and oracle upgrade guides I made sure that its possible to upgrade our database from 8.1.7.4.
So I have planned the below options to do the same and not sure about the possibilities. If anyone have thoughts and idea on the same please suggest me.
We dont have plan to migrate the development hardware and the sap version is 4.7E
Option 1: Upgrade the Linux to 5 and then upgrading the database to 10g usign upgrade assistant tool
Option 2: Export the database using sapinst tool and then crashing the server. Installing linux5 and importing the database using sapinst tool.(I am aware this is not a good idea since there is no migration in hardware but it will be helpful in production since we are migrating the production system).
Option 3: Performing DBUA assistant in development and sapinst method in production.(helpful in disaster recovery)
Could you please suggest on the same?
    My query is that.
If i am performing oracle export from 8.1.7.4 and if i am import the same in oracle 10g using the sapinst tool. Will this work? or it will create a problem in table level. I am looking for answers for this Question. Kindly explain me on this.

  • Upgrading 8.1.7.0 to 10g lastest release (10.2.x)

I am planning to upgrade a 8.1.7.0 database to 10g r2. I am choosing the export/import method as I cannot seem to find patches that work to upgrade the 8.1.7.0 to 8.1.7.4 in order to perform the manual step-by-step process which does not support versions below 8.1.7.4 unless indirect paths are used.
Using Export/Import utilities, do I need to create the tablespaces and users on the 10g database with the same names used on 8i or will import fully=y import user accounts and their schema objects as well as the tablespaces/datafiles?
    Thanks.

From 8i you can export FULL by using sysdba user and
import into 10g full=y that will work successfully. Not sysdba.
There may be a few exceptions when you need to, see (same in 9.i and 8.1.7)

    import.No. Only import:

  • Upgrade failure(dbua) from 8i to 10g on solaris

    Hi,
current version is 8.1.7.4 and trying to upgrade to 10.2.0.1 which is already been installed.
I am running dbua from 10ghome/bin
I have changed the oracle_home to 10g also
when I am trying to install by using dbua, after clicking on the finish button
it is getting failed by throwing the error at pre upgrade step.
ORA-0178: failure in processing system parameters while upgrading
    Please assist me
    Regards,
    RB

    Hi User,
It seems to me that you just want the upgrade done as fast as you could without really putting enough thoughts and understanding of the whole upgrade process. What metalink note are you following? Did you check the "Database Upgrade Guide"?
There are two scripts to run to check all your settings before the upgrade. Please search metalink for "upgrade" procedures for the details.
The errors you are encountering are mostly caused by obsolete parameters used in 8i or new parameters in 10g not acceptable in 8i.
    Please provide error log.
    Regards,
    ArtRed

  • Upgrade from 8i to 9i or 10g

What are the points to be considered while upgarding from 8i to 9i or 10g? Any standrad feature comparison available on all these 3 ?

In addition to the above replies, you need to know the Upgrade methods i.e. Manually, Export/Import Utility, and DBUA (Database Upgrade Assistance).
I hope you can find more documents and checklist for the same in Oracle.com and google.com.

  • Reg upgrade of Physical Standby from 9i -10g

hi guys,I'm planning to upgrade my database from 9i 9.2.0.7-10g 10.2.0.3...along with Physical Standby Site....
I got a link for Dataguard upgrade
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/upgrades.htm
what I conluded from this links is...Just writing the high level steps
-Apply all the Archive logs on Standby
-install the Oracle Software on Primary Standby
    -Upgrade the Primary
-Start the Standby with password file and spfile from the new home..and set the FAL parameters
I might be missing some steps here
    but
I just wanted to make sure we actually dont upgrade the Standby as we do with Primary just installing the 10g software on Standby as well and starting the instance with spfile from 10g home with same set of datafies....is considered to be the upgrade.......of Standby database????????looks too simple
    Thanx
    Gagan

You could certainly reinstall Apex to make sure that Apex-related packages and procedures are re-granted properly, but that still won't solve the other cases where specific non-Apex-related packages were granted but became "ungranted" after the upgrade. I'm not involved with DB upgrades myself, so the whole procedure is a bit "black box" to me, so I don't know if packages that were granted become revoked on an upgrade. Talk to you DBA about the DB upgrade and find out what packages were granted by default.
but we may get other errors down the line because of other privileges that are still missing...Probably, and depending on the exact 10g version you installed, there are other DB bugs that will mess with Apex. Was this upgrade done on a test instance first or just production? In either case, run through all your applications and see if anything else breaks. If possible (and appropriate) notify your users that an upgrade occurred and that you've tried to resolve any problems but some might be hiding out there. It's not bad to be cautious--we tend to run things the other way and upgrade overnight, do a few checks to see that nothing is 100% broken and come in the next morning to all kinds of fun errors the users found.

  • SP2-0310 trying to upgrade PL/SQL Web Toolkit on 10g XE

    Hi,
I upgraded my local Oracle 10g XE APEX installation to version 4.0.2.00.06 but then I realized that I probably also needed a newer version of the PL/SQL Web Toolkit.
So I changed my path to the owa folder and then I executed owainst.sql connected with SYS as SYSDBA.
    This is the output:
    SQL> @owainst.sql
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    OWA_DBG_MSG
    Installed OWA version is: 10.1.2.0.4;
    Shipped OWA version is  : 10.1.2.0.6;
OWA packages v10.1.2.0.6 will be installed into your database v102010
    Will install owadummy.sql and owacomm.sql
    Session altered.
SP2-0310: unable to open file "&wpi_file_var.sql"
SP2-0310: unable to open file "&owa_file_var.sql"
Session altered. Why doesn't this work? This is really driving me crazy! Is there something wrong with the version of owa shipped with the 4.0.2 patch?
    Thanks,
    Matthias

Found the solution to my problem...
I had "set define off" in my glogin.sql file :-) So the script couldn't replace the & variables...

  • Upgrade Oracle from Oracle9i to Oracle 10g

    Hi,
We will be having a project on upgrading the existing version of Oracle 9i to 10g.
Our application uses Java as the front end and Oracle as the backend.
So if anyone has done similar kind of Oracle upgrade from 9i to 10g, could you please tell us –
    1) What are the steps involved in upgrading Java drivers (if any).
    2) Also any other changes to be made on Java front.
    Thank you,

    I have the following queries:
    1. Does any third-party application running on Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition need to be changed when we migrate from 9i database server to Oracle Standard One Edition 10g?
    2. What's the difference between Oracle 9i Enterprise and Oracle Standard One Edition 10g?
    3. We are using Oracle 9i Database on a server with Oracle 9i Client on nodes with third-party software. When we upgrade our 9i server to 10g, can we connect to 10g from our existing 9i client nodes? Slowly we can upgrade all 9i clients to 10g clients. Otherwise, all the machines in the company need to be changed to 10g client and work will suffer a lot, as this upgrade job cannot be done in a single day.

  • Upgrade form DBA 9i OCA  to 10g

    Dear all,
i passed all the exams of 9i except performance tuning and i want to move to 10g database , i attend in-class training course for all 9i exams.
what is the best way to move to 10g or 11g OCP.
    regards

Because you've completed the training for 9i, the most sensible route is to finish your 9i OCP.
Then think about taking the upgrade tests.
Otherwise, you'll need to take courses that fulfill the 10g/11g requirements.
No courses are needed for upgrading once you've got the OCP.
The 1z0-055 exam allows you to upgrade directly from 9i to 11g.

  • Upgrading from Forms 6i to Forms 10g

Does Forms 10g support direct upgradation from 6i to 10g version or have to go step wise from 6i to 9i and 9i to 10g. Also suggest ways of handling the run time errors arising. Does Oracle provide some patches to facilitate a smooth transition fromo 6i to 10g.

    Thanx Grant,
Can you also suggest as to what complications can arise as many built-ins in 6i have been discarded in 10g. Does the pathes available take in most part of the work in upgradation. I have around 1000 forms in 6i on a complex finance & insurance sectar. Will be pleased if you can suggest the best way of migration.
As suggested the bath mode will be the likely option as individually compiling each .FMB would be combursome.
Are there some specific de-bugging tools available.
    Regards
    Sridhar
