Upgrade 4.6C to ECC 6.0; Unicode - non-Unicode -- Unicode

Hi,
My client has a R/3 4.6c UNICODE, he wants to upgrade to ECC6.0 UNICODE.
According to a SAP document, to upgrade, I upgrade directly to ECC 6.0 NON_UNICODE then convert the system to ECC 6.0 UNICODE.
I'm wonder why Unicode -> non-Unicode --> Unicode.
Regards,
Toan Do

"4.6C is not a unicode system ,ecc6.0 is an unicode system."
Actually, ECC 6.0 only has to be unicode if you are a new installation.  If you are upgrading from a non-unicode system, you can upgrade to a non-unicode ECC 6.0 system, this is fully supported by SAP.
However, it is recommended that you perform the upgrade and unicode conversion at the same time. SAP is going to force us to unicod some day anyway.
We have just completed a technical upgrade from 4.7 to ECC 6 non-unicode, and now we are looking at a unicode conversion project.  It would have added time to the original upgrade project, but it would have been worth it.

    Could you please say  if I had this understand right:
    if I would like to start now the unicode conversion, I need this DVD "SAP NetWeaver 2004s Installation Export DVD" and there is "sapinst" that started the conversion to ECC 6.0 UNICODE.
    Is that right ?
    Of course if you have any documentations that could be helpful, I were very thankful.

    Hello Alessandro,
    Before you do anything, please find the documentation as in note 551344.
    Read the complete Unicode Conversion Guide (UCG) before starting to
    prepare the conversion procedure. You can download the applicable
    document version  from this Note or from SAP Service Marketplace at:
    http:// service.sap.com/unicode@sap -> Unicode Library -> Unicode

  • Recommandations for upgrading from 46C to ECC 6.0

    Hello
    Our SAP system landscape is actually in 46c and is only composed of 3 servers with almost 40 users declared (25 actives) on production system. Modules FI/CO HR MM are actually implemented.
    We plan to upgrade the system to ECC 6.0 between March and August of 2009. The evaluation of the upgrade should begin as soon as possible. Do you think it can be possible to realise the upgrade alone, without the help and expertise of a SAP consultant? Do you think the delay for preparing the upgrade is suffisant?
    Thank you.

    As suggested earlier, refer to Master and technological guides for reference.
    also for information, the upgrade can fall under any below scenarios.
    1. Strategic Business Improvement
    Focus on functionality extension and improvement
    Enablement of new and optimized business processes and scenarios based on new ERP core functionality
    2. Functional/Retrofit Upgrade
    New functionality to be implemented as part of the upgrade, modification clearing
    Focus on reduction of system complexity
    3. Technical Upgrade
    Focus on pure technology upgrade
    Retain functionality used
    Review Usage of custom developments
    As per the requirement.  knowledge and experience the decision can be made.

    Hello,
    Can you please look in the /put/log directory and copy the error from the appropriate log file. You should find a log file with a name similar the to upgrade phase that is causing the error.

  • SAP Security Upgrade 4.6C to ECC 6.0

    Hello Gurus,
    we are upgrading our systems to ECC 6.0 from 4.6C.
    in SU25 step, do i need to manually go into every role and find the differences in Field values ?
    there are more than 2500 roles and its becoming tedious task.
    Is there any easy or other procedure available for the same ?
    Regards,
    Chaitanya

    There are many tricks you can use to shave a role upgrade down to about 2 day's work, but day 1 is during the implementation design way back when to consider upgrades much later on...
    Just knowing that you have 18k roles and 2500 turned red in step 2a is not enough infos to give you any efficient advice (I am not talking about your time... ;-).
    What is however obvious is that between 2a and 2c there is 2... ah...?!?! That is your next closest catalyst, but dont hit the "accept SAP data" button unless you have not done any changes in SU24!
    Some other key figures for upgrades are:
    - Number of roles with distinctly different menus.
    - Number of changed auths which are not copies.
    - Number of manual auths needing manual adjustments.
    - Obsolete and disabled objects.
    - Security patches for unnoticed missing auth-checks.
    - Cut-over, development freeze and parallel maintenance time period.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • Upgraded our system from ECC 6 to 6.04 (EHP4).

    Dear All,
    We have upgraded our system from ECC 6 to 6.04 (EHP4).
    There are many request in old development server which are in local request now .
    We want to transport those requests to new development server which is upgraded one.
    Can any one let me know is there any standard way of transporting these requests from old Development system (6)to new one(6.04).
    Thanks
    Anuradha

    Hi Sahil,
    Looks like latest EHP installer concentrate more on downtime minimize strategy.  We have only 3 options available as follows.
    1. Standard resource use
    2. High resource use
    3. Manual selection
    Please take a look at below thread. Let's see what other experts comment on this.

    Hi silverk,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand the need for all of your calendars to be up to date across all of your devices and how frustrating it can be when they are not syncing as you would expect. In this situation I would suggest reading over and using the attached article for troubleshooting.

  • How to check for Unicode/Non-Unicode SAP?

    Hi All,
    Please let me know how can I check whether an SAP system is a Unicode/Non-Unicode from SAP GUI?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    You can check under menu :
    System -> Status -> SAP System Data -> Unicode System -> Yes/ No

  • Unicode: non-Latin characters in identifiers and data

    I would like to use Unicode escapes in identifiers, say create
    a variable name that is Japanese. But I can't seem to get this
    to work.
    I have a product (Japanese Partner) that lets me key in latin
    characters then converts these to Japanese (kana or Kanji,
    depending on various options) in Unicode and passes them
    to the input line.
    But I can't get these to compile.
    Also, if I code:
    char Jletter = '\u2f80';
    System.out.println("Jletter = " + Jletter);
    The runtime output is:
    Jletter = ?
    I thought it was supposed to display as a Unicode escape.
    TIA for any help.

    Perhaps, but I'm going on:
    "Programs are written in Unicode (3.1), but lexical translations are provided (3.2) so that Unicode escapes (3.3) can be used to include any Unicode character using only ASCII characters."
    Then ...
    "3.2 Lexical Translations
    A raw Unicode character stream is translated into a sequence of tokens, using the following three lexical translation steps, which are applied in turn:
    1. A translation of Unicode escapes (3.3) in the raw stream of Unicode characters to the corresponding Unicode character. A Unicode escape of the form \uxxxx, where xxxx is a hexadecimal value, represents the UTF-16 code unit whose encoding is xxxx. This translation step allows any program to be expressed using only ASCII characters.
    2. A translation of the Unicode stream resulting from step 1 into a stream of input characters and line terminators (3.4).
    3. A translation of the stream of input characters and line terminators resulting from step 2 into a sequence of input elements (3.5) which, after white space (3.6) and comments (3.7) are discarded, comprise the tokens (3.5) that are the terminal symbols of the syntactic grammar (2.3). "
    I take this to mean you can Unicode escapes for Unicode characters. But
    it doesn't seem to work, so maybe my understanding is deficient. Maybe
    the docs need to be more clear.

  • Importing non-unicode data into unicode 10gR2 database

    Hi:
    I will have to import non-unicode data into unicode 10gR2 database. The systems the data is coming from are the following: CODA, Timberline, COMMS, CMS, LIMS. These are all RDBMS, sql-enabled systems. We are talking about pretty big amounts of data (a couple hundred GB combined).
    Did anybody go through a similar exersize?
    I know I'll have to setup nls_length_semantics to CHAR.
    What other recommendations could you guys give?
    TIA,
    Greg

    I think "nls_length_semantics" isn't mandatory at this point, and you must extract a little quantity of information from every source and do some probes injecting them into the Oracle10g database.

  • Peoplesoft convert Oracle non-unicode database to unicode database

    I am following doc 1437384.1 to convert a Peoplesoft database from non-unicode database to unicode database
    I use the following export statement (as user PS)
    SET NO TRACE;
    SET OUTPUT output_file.dat;
    SET NO DATA;
    EXPORT *;
    And the following import statement (as user sysadm)
    SET NO TRACE;
    SET NO DATA;
    SET INPUT output_file;
    SET LOG log_file;
    SET UNICODE ON;
    SET STATISTICS OFF;
    SET ENABLED_DATATYPE 9.0;
    IMPORT *;
    Before I do the datapump import, I am comparing the objects
    SQL> select object_type, count(*) from dba_objects where owner = 'SYSADM' group by object_type order by 1 asc;
    OBJECT_TYPE COUNT(*)
    INDEX 33797
    LOB 2775
    TABLE 28829
    TRIGGER 9
    VIEW 21208
    on oracsc63 (targetdb):
    SQL> select object_type, count(*) from dba_objects where owner = 'SYSADM' group by object_type order by 1 asc;
    OBJECT_TYPE COUNT(*)
    INDEX 23748
    LOB 2170
    TABLE 19727
    I don't have the same number of object. When I do the import this means that around 10000 tables will not have the UTF-8 format.
    Any ideas how I can solve this? How has experience with this peoplesoft conversions?

  • Unicode/non-unicode database

    Hi,
    I have two Oracle 8.1.7 databases : an unicode database, and a non-unicode database.
    Can I export schema from non-unicode database to unicode database without problem ? What is the real impact ?
    Thank you in advance for your help,
    Nicolas.

    Depending on the data that you have in your non-unicode database, potentially data expansions or data loss may occur.
    Data expansions
    For example, a 1 byte character in a VARCHAR2(1) column may expand to 2 bytes or 3 bytes in a Unicode (UTF8) database; hence you may need to re-define you scheme prior to importing the data into your new Unicode database.
    Data Loss
    This happens only if you have invalid characters inside your non-unicode database. For example, you may have some 8-bit non-ASCII characters inside your US7ASCII database, during export these characters will be converted to some replacement characters (?).
    However you can use the character set scanner (csscan) to scan your source database to detect both of the above scenarios. Please visit the Globalization Support section of OTN for more info - http://technet.oracle.com/tech/globalization/content.html

  • 'Zero-width Non-Joiner' Unicode Control Character for Xperia International Keyboard in Persian

    I use Xperia International Keyboard in Persian (Farsi) on my Xperia Z3 Comapct. I really like its Gesture input for Persian. On the other hand I like Google Keyboard for Persian for its 'Zero-width Non-Joiner' Unicode Control Character key.This character is used in Persian as a non-breaking space or "نیم‌فاصله". But Google keyboard lacks gesture input for Persian. I would like it like very much If there is a ZWNJ (U+200C) key on next updates of Xperia International Keyboard for Persian. It would be perfect if it also have Arabic Decimal Separator (٫) (U+066B) and Arabic Thousand Separator (٬) (U+066C).
