The only supported way is option (1) that you describe (using exp/imp). The intermediate version could be 8.1.7.4 instead of 9i - see the 10gR2 Upgrade Guide at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/preup.htm#i1007814

  • Upgrade repository 9i windows to 10gR2 Linux

I've got a 9i repository on a windows platform that I want to move to a 10gR2 Linux platform. The 10gR2 linux platform doesn't have the developer suite installed. Where do I start?

Essentially use are just moving the repository database on Linux. The software for Designer only exists on Windows. You would therefore (briefly):
    - Export your existing repository using the 9i designer software.
    - Install the new designer 10g software on a Windows PC and set up the SQL*Net connection to the unix platform.
    - Use the Designer admin tools in 10g to do the import with the data going onto the linux database.
That's only me thinking on the fly - you should read the migration guide so tell you exactly how to create the new repository. I'd have both in parrallel and switch off the 9i version once everything has migrated sucessfully.

  • Upgradation from 10gr2 RAC to 11gr2

I am trying to upgrade my RAC database from 10gr2 to 11gr2. But after successfully completing rootupgrade.sh on all nodes, I am not able to see the registered components. i.e. "crsctl stat res -t" is not working. Even the active version is also showing the older one. My 10gr2 setup is in raw device. Has anybody faced the same issue before? Please share.
    Thanks in advance.

  • 9i 10g upgrade execution plan differences.

    Hi all,
I am tring to find execution plan differences after I upgrade production system from 9i to 10gR2. So I have restored only needed tablespaces from my production system (9i) to a new machine and then upgraded thiat Oracle server to 10GR2. At this new server I run a script to get new execution plans of 10g. What suprises me is that query plans of 10g is different and most of new plans choose to access tables via indexes instead of full table scans stated in the original plans taken from 9i. My idea about those differences is that the optimizer takes some values for its cost formula from other system tables that I do not have in 10g server.I guess I am missing something which is not documented in upgrade book.
    any idea?
    Regards.

9i database is my production database and I regularly run cron jobs for missing or stale statistics on all tables. So there is no possibility to hit a problem on object level statistics. I guess that I am missing something about system level statistics which are the part of the formula (single block read time etc) for cost calculating. So I tried to use setting some statastics via dbms_stat.set_system_statistics procedure, but it did not work.
    Any idea?

  • 11gR2 Post-Upgrade Questions Regarding tnsnames, listener, pwd, and init

    Hello.
Am planning on upgrading a significant # of RHEL5 10gR2 RAC and non-RAC DBs to 11gR2 (11.2.0.3.1, specifically). The servers are still not available to me, but I have been poring on the install and upgrade documents as well as referencing several blogs of users who have done them. I have almost literally read the guides verbatim. I will be using the DBUS - not doing a manual upgrade. Since I cannot test of the upgrade yet, I have a few questions related to POST_UPGRADE actions in terms of the listener, tnsnames, password, and init files.
1.) The upgrade document indicates on p 3-24, "DBUA then proceeds to create new configuration files (parameter and listener files) in the new Oracle home." Will the init file (assuming spfile will be copied as we are using one everywhere now) have deprecated parameters REMOVED after it is copied over to the NEW/TARGET home?
2.) While the install/upgrade guides do not call for it, several blogs indicate that the tnsnames and password files should be copied over from the old/source DB network/admin location ($TNSNAMES/admin) to the new/target DB /network/admin location. Do I need to do this or with the DBUA also copy them over? If all 4 files (tnsnames/listener/spfile/password) are copied over, I am not sure why the document doesn't indicate this.
3.) Other than the spfile being copied over and modified, I don't see any difference between the old/source and new/destination copies of the listener, tnsnames, and password file. Do you agree?
I am just trying to figure out what really need to be copied over and what doesn't in lieu of the DBUA doing it for me.
Thank you all for your help. If I had HW to test this out, I would do it. In the meantime, I am writing the procedures to do the actual upgrade.
    Matt

    page 3-24 corresponds to following
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23633/upgrade.htm#CHDDCBHG
    which states
You must run the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant before running DBUA. See "Configuring the Listener When Upgrading from Oracle9i".
If you are upgrading an existing Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control or if you are configuring a new Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control for the new Oracle Database 11g release, then the listener must be running before upgrading Oracle Enterprise Manager. If DBUA detects that an Oracle Enterprise Manager upgrade or configuration is requested, and DBUA does not see a listener running, then it prompts you and starts the default listener in either of these cases.
running netca from new home results in creating a new listener.ora file, this could complain that listener is already used if the old listener is running with the same name or port (default 1521) taken.
I think the "+DBUA reloads the listener.ora file in both the old and new Oracle Database environments.+" which point c in that list has to be taken in context with the two previous points a, b, where the usecase is shown how services , entries are removed from one listener.ora file and added to another. So to make sure those services are started from the "now" correct home those listener.ora are reloaded.
If you look in the 11.1 upgrade guide this text is written as "DBUA removes the entry of the upgraded database from the old listener.ora file and reloads the listener of the old database." http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28300/upgrade.htm#i1011982
If after the upgrade old oracle home is not used anymore (no database is running out of that) you can ignore the listener.ora on the old home.

  • 9i metadata repository be upgraded to 10g

    Hi,
I hav a question from the customer, they are looking for migration from Oracle AS 10g Rel 1 (9041) to AS 10g Rel 2 (10.1.2.0.2) they wanted to know if they can upgrade 9i metadata repository to 10g in advance of moving their 10g AS Rel 1 environment to 10g AS Rel 2?

Yes, the repository in fact must be upgraded if you want to perform the complete AS upgrade. Upgrade from the 10gR1 to 10gR2 is pretty straight forward. You are required to perform metadata upgrade by means of the MRUA (Metadata Repository Upgrade Assistant) disk, if you don't have it you should download it from the otn download area.

  • Upgrade of Designer repository from 6i to latest version

Is the designer repository supported in a 10gR2 database?
We plan to upgrade to the latest developer suite and i'm working on a POC. I've upgraded the repository database to 10gR2. Now, i plan to install the latest version of developer suite on a client box and then run the RAU to upgrade the repository.
Has anyone done this? And can share his/her experience?
    Thanks.

According to the Metalink note about this (Note:60705.1), both 9i and 10g Designer can run on 10gR2 databases. You're right to upgrade though, because the 6i repository is not certified on that database.
By the by, latest full Developer Suite is 10.1.2.0.2. But there is a newer Designer (v 10.1.2.2) available, which that same Metalink note says is certified with the base 10.1.2.0.2 Developer. I'd go with the newest Designer if I were you.

  • OS and DB upgrades to databases under data guard

    Hello,
Here is the scenario. I have an OPS db and a physical standby of OPS. Platform is solaris 9 with both a 9i instance and a 10g instance. I want to be able to do a switchover of the ops to the standby and then upgrade the standby. I believe that I can upgrade the OS to solaris 10 with no problems. However, I also want to be able to upgrade the 9i instance to 10gR2. Is it possible to do an upgrade of this degree to a standby under data guard? At the point that the db upgrade has completed data guard will no longer have the same configuration. This scenario is starting to send off alarms to me. Thanks in advance for your responses.

    Hi,
Is it possible to do an upgrade of this degree to a standby under data guard? Yes. Steve Karam does it all the time, and he has these notes:
"Dataguard's physical backups are a GREAT DR situation for a failed upgrade. You will have an exact physical copy of your database ready to switchover to if anything goes wrong with the upgrade. Basically you switch your final archive log and shut down your primary, then begin the standard upgrade.
If something goes wrong, you can perform a failover on your standby server and you're back up with no possibility of inconsistencies since it's a physical backup. In my opinion, the only method better than DataGuard for a backup for upgrade scenario would be to use SAN tools like NetApp's snapMirror or Sun's
Availability Suite in order to back it up; these tools can snapshot a DB in a matter of seconds and are good for this sort of situation: if the upgrade goes wrong, simply restore the snapshot.
If you do it right, you can set up dataguard with only 5 minutes of downtime, then perform your database upgrade with only 5 minutes of downtime. I have done this method for clients in the past and they have been very happy with the results."
Bipul Kumar has a book devoted to using Data Guard, that you may find helpful, and he notes the steps for a Data Guard-based upgrade:
    http://www.rampant-books.com/book_2004_2_dataguard.htm
"Upgrading to Oracle10g database software in a Data Guard environment involves the following activities:
If the Data Guard configuration is managed by Data Guard broker, the broker configuration needs to be removed using the existing version of database software. In other words, remove the Oracle9i configuration before upgrading to Oracle10g. Execute the following command after connecting to any site in the configuration using DGMGRL to remove the configuration:
    REMOVE CONFIGURATION;
Install Oracle10g database software. The Data Guard feature is not available with the Standard edition, so the Enterprise edition must be installed. Additionally, install Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) 10.1 in order to manage the configuration using Data Guard Manager GUI interface, which is tightly integrated with OEM.
The primary and standby databases should be upgraded to Oracle10g. The log management services should be stopped during the primary database upgrade. All of the redo logs generated during the database upgrade should be applied manually on each standby database. For more information on upgrading to Oracle10g, refer to the documentation, “Oracle Database Upgrade Guide 10g Release 1(10.1)”.
Update the initialization parameter files or server parameter files on the primary database and all the standby databases to include the parameter db_unique_name. The database unique name must be identical on all the databases in a configuration.
Once all the databases in the Data Guard configuration are upgraded to Oracle10g, the broker configuration file will have to be created in order to manage it using Data Guard broker. Execute the following command, connecting to the primary database using DGMGRL, to recreate the broker configuration file and to add standby databases"
Also, see the docs, with their instructions:

  • Upgrading to Developer Suite 10g R2

    Hi all
We currently have Developer suite 10g R1 (9.04) (Designer 10g R1 b virtue). We wanted to upgrade forms and reports to 10gR2. when we tried to install Developer suite. I have an option to install JDeveloper or the entire developer suite. This forces me to upgrade developer suite too. Unffortunately my case repository is at a lower version and I cannot upgrade designer.
Can I Install forms and reports components of developer suite only.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • ORA-00600 error in Oracle 10.1.0.5 database

    Hi All,
Please help me to get rid of the below mentioned issue.
I am supporting a Oracle 10.1.0.5 prod database. we are getting a below ora-600 error message
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [qerpxSlaveFetch1], [0], [], [], [], [], [], []
I have searched in metalink and there it is stated as bug with the product.
They adviced us to apply the Patch 3897688 or disable parallelism or Upgrade to the fixed release, 10gR2.
The patch 3897688 is not for window platform. Upgrade to 10gR2 is not possible in near future.
So please help me how to disable parallelism in 10g database.

ok fine satish will ask our development team to try your suggestion.
Can you please tell me whether the following init parameters we can use to disable parallelism?
    PARALLEL_AUTOMATIC_TUNING = FALSE
PARALLEL_SERVER=FALSE (this alone will disable Parallel Execution)
    PARALLEL_MIN_SERVERS=0 (this is additional restriction)
    PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS=0 (this is additional restriction)

  • Problem in compiling my form

    hi gurus,
I installed Forms 10 release 1 and compiled a form and place in my apps server. It worked perfectly.
Later today, I wanted to use the webutil features(not in this form) and installed Forms 10g Release 2 with webutil. and compiled my forms. It compiled perfectly in Windows.
But when I moved to apps server and compiled it there, it gives me Buss error(coredump). I don't what is it pertaining to.
Please help me on this regard.

is your apps server 10gR1? and did you perform your compile on your form which worked previously also with 10gR2 compiler?
If so, the 10gR2 Forms Compiler migrated your fmb file to 10gR2, and the 10gR1 Compiler won't be able to compile it for my mind...
But I don't know how to migrate a form back to 10gR1, but probably you should upgrade your apps server to 10gR2 too?
    regards

  • Forms are not opening if one of the 2-node 11gR2 DB instance is down

recently we have upgraded database from 2-node 10gR2 RAC to 2-node 11gR2 instance.
But, if one of the instance is down, the forms are not picking up the 2nd node and forms are not opening.
Can someone help me to fix this issue as its PROD.

    Hi,
Please send the output of below command, run this in your application node.
    "tnsping MMAPPS_BALANCE"
Your SID_BALANCE TNS-ENTRY should look like below on the application server. Below is just for example of 3 node rac. You should not edit tnsnames.ora file manually, if you configure your context file properly, autoconfig  will generate properly.

  • The Best Releas Of Oracle Application Server 10g (BI Forms&Reports)

    hi all
i am asking u to loock with me to the best solution for my environment
becuse we want to upgrade our Environment work :
    Current Work Environment:
    - Oracle Database Server R 8i as (database)
    - Oracle Developer 2000 as (Forms & Reports)
our comunity is welling to upgrade our work to 10g
and we are asking for the best release that we can use to a complish the best senario for our environment .
i have the current seggestion :
    - Upgrade the database to R 10gR2 (Export&Import).
    - Install & Migrate the developer side as Infrastruction Appliction Server 10gR(10.1.2.0 ) .
    - Install the Middle Tire as BI Forms&Reports & Migrate our whole system to the new Release using developer Suite 10g .
i am asking you'r seggestions & Best Bractice in my case .
also what is the most Stable relase we can use .
    thanks .

    Hi Ibrahim,
You can do an easier installation by only using base release of 10.1.2.0.2. What I stated would be good practice:
    By * DB 10.2.0.3 ---- > u mean (Database Version) => Yes, use Database version 10.2.0.3
By * Identity Management 10.1.4.0.1 (OID/SSO) -----> u mean (Application Server infrastructure) => Yes, use Identity Management 10.1.4.0.1 instead of the infrastructure on Application Server 10.1.2.0.2
By * Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 -----> u mean (Middle Tire Forms&Report Services) => Yes, use Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 as middle-tier. When installed, upgrade it to 10.1.2.2 (with the latest patchset)
By * Patch Application Server DB client to 10.1.0.5 ----> u mean what? => Before you upgrade AS to 10.1.2.2 it's mandatory to upgrade the Database client software in the Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 home to 10.1.0.5. Default is 10.1.4. You'll see database client version by for instance starting SQL*Plus.
For your Developer (Forms) upgrade: Forms 4.0/4.5 - 6i -> 10g. See: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/upgrade/index.html. If you have tons of Forms, then I recommend using a tool like the great PITTS.CON (http://www.pitss.com/en/pcon/index.htm).
