The school just upgraded these MacBooks to OSX Mavericks and when i try to open Minecraft it won't let me. It says no jdk installed. I also try to install Java SE runtime but half way through the Software Update it says cant download software because of network problem but I'm connected to the internet and i can browse stuff just fine. Can any one help with my problems. P.S. I don't know the administrator password or stuff like that. And yes we are allowed to play games and stuff on these laptops but only at home not at school so don't tell me i need to focus on school and not games.

Since you updated the operating system, it is probably Minecraft is missing certain files that ware remove or are not longer comparable with the new version of the OSX. what I recommend, is to check is there is an update for Minecraft and install that. If there is not update available, probably the best thing will be reinstalling Minecraft. Hope this will help you.

How can I access all of my save Word documents? I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004). If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.

In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

Track pad Gestures stops working after upgrading to mountain lion osx

I upgraded to Mountain Lion Osx from Snow Leopard on my Macbook pro (Mid 2011 model) last month. However, it happens so that sudden;y all kind of trackpad gestures stops working. I have tried to find options on System preferences but nothing really works. i have tried unticking and then ticking again all the options to no avail. Even though restarting machine sometimes help but not always. Are their anyone with similar problems and if it is did you manage to come out with possible soutions?? If you did please kindly share as it is quite annoying to use machine without those gestures

Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.

And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:

Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

Here is a recent post I assembled for a similar question:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta. Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion). While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Workarounds:
1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
2. If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
3. Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will open, modify and save your data files;
3. Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:

Apple is still friendly, only became more protective - for your very best. Right-click on the installer, then "Open", and then you get a window offering you the option to run it. That's a ML feature. Again, for your protection.
Independently, and as not only with Apple, a new OS X is sometimes different, and ML is that bit "pickier" with fully compatible software. So, even if your driver ran under Lion, it can be that it won't under ML. In that case please check Canon's website if they have a newer ML-compatible version, If not, also go and blame Canon. It's their responsibility to provide up-to-date drivers, not Apple's.

If you think you want to use PSE on both platforms buy the boxed version, which comes with a serial number that works in both. Downloads have single-platform serial numbers. But at this time of year I don't think I'd buy PSE till the trial runs out.

With respect, we'll need rather more detail than that.
In general, you can only roll back an upgrade to a library with a back up. No back up, no roll back.

HT1338 After i upgrade my Macbook to OSX 10.9.1, it complaint that my "WiFi:No hardware installed", what could be the problem ? Appreciate your advise.

After I upgraded my MacBook to OSX 10.9.1, the wifi does not work only the ethernet port works.
I check the WiFI setting, it complain with error message as follows "Wi-Fi: No hardware Installed".

First thing I'd do is shutdown the machine fully (that means use 'Shutdown' not 'Restart' from the  menu), then power on.
If the problem persists, reinstall OS X from the recovery menu (power on, immediately hold down 'command-R' and choose 'Reinstall OS X' from the panel menu).

My HP Photosmart 380 series printer is no longer working since upgrading to the Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.2. Need to know where to find installation software and updates so that it shows as an available and working photo printer. Also need how to information to make this happen. When my wife and I upgraded to OSX Mavericks the person I was talking to on apple support said I could use My apple ID and password to up grade on my wife's computer also. Well after we got finished she had all my Info from my computer on hers. It took about 6 hours to install the whole upgrade. They said if you have any problems just to call back and we will help. Here it is on a Sunday and I call every 5 minutes and all I get is a busy signal. My wife uses my Apple ID and password to download and install all her software because that way we only pay for it once and get essentially a family license. Otherwise we would each have to purchase and pay for our own copy. However, that only applies when we are purchasing software from the App Store or the iTunes store. We each have our own individual iCloud accounts where we store our personal Contact, Calendar, and other data. You can change the Apple ID on your wife's computer by going to System Preferences > Accounts and choosing her account then clicking on Apple ID: Set.
Now if you want to make things more intertwined you and your wife can share your contacts, calendars etc with one another with read only or read write priveleges.

Upgrade Power mac G5 OSX 10.5 to Snow Leapard

Need help running Power Mac G5 OSX 10.5 Leapard planning to upgrade for Snow Leapard. I see that this is not possible is there anyway round this issue like installing Core Duo 2 Processor or buy new computer.

Snow Leopard only runs on Intel Macs. Leopard is the last OS you can run on a G5. The workaround is to buy a new computer.
