Upgrade 9iAs to 10gAS

Helo All,
I have a query hope to get solved over here
I have installed 9iAS (9.0.2) and 9iDB on a single machine on win2k platform. Now I would like to upgrade my 9iAS to 10g since im getting some problems and prevailing bugs in 9iAS.
My Question here is
1. Do I need to reformat the whole thing I mean take db back up and application back up and reformat the whole hard disk and install fresh 10g the the database.
2. Or can i keep the existing database intact as it is and go for an upgrade with the 10g on the existing 9iAS.
3. If i can upgrade on the existing 9iAS to 10 how can I do that. Just put the CD and run the 10g Installation?
Can anyone help me out for a safe upgrade from 9iAs to 10gAs
Thanks & Regards

Portal is just a component of AS. You would upgrade to 10gAS R2. The link I provided shows the version paths you could take based on your original version.
At any rate, see the 10.1.2.0.2 upgrade guide:

  • 9iAS with 10gAS

    Greetings.
I have two AS questions concerning the same situation. We are installing 9iAS (1.0.2.2.2) to use with Oracle Applications 11i. Late in the planning stage, some of our business clients were told about the Discoverer features that come with the 10g Discoverer/AS.
    Here are the questions:
    1) Is it possible to have both the 9iAS and 10gAS running in parallel (different servers) against the same 9.5.7 database?
    2) More importantly, if it is possible, is it supported by Oracle? If it is supported, is that written down somewhere?
    Thanks,
    David

Whoops... went a little dyslexic there. It is actually database version 9.2.0.3. blush
I looked on metalink but didn't see this subject addressed specifically. I know that the DBA is going to ask the $64k question: If we call support with a problem, will they hang up when we tell them our architecture?

  • Upgrade 9iAS R1 to 10gAS R3

    hi,
we're planning to upgrade our current application sever from 9iAS R1 running on Windows 2000 to 10G AS R3 (preferably on Linux), our application was built using Oracle Forms 6i and Reports 6i.
What should be our upgrade path? Do we need to re-compile our forms and reports programs?
I would appreciate it so much if anyone could point me to any documentation I could refer to as I am having problems sorting out results from my oracle search (tried google too!)
    TIA :)

You can't upgrade to 10gR3 v10.1.3.x if you have Forms and Reports based application. The latest production version of OAS that contains Forms and Reports is 10gR2 v10.1.2. For upgrading from 9iAS to 10gR2 start here:

  • Upgrade 9iAS Install Type

We have a 9iAS installation (v2) on Solaris that is for Portal and Wireless.
Can I upgrade this to Business Intelligence and Forms
or a Unified Messaging type without a re-install?
    Thanks
    Dinesh

Yes, you can "expand" from lower mid tier install to a higher mid tier install in the same version of the software without deinstall/reinstalling it.
Simply start the installer and point to this Oracle Home and select upper mid tier install type.

  • Upgrading 9iAS iFS 1.1 to iFS 1.2

9iAS is installed on Solaris. It is running iFS 1.1. I would
like to de-install iFS 1.1 and install iFS 1.2.
    Is this supported? or possible?
I run the OUI and select the iFS 1.1 component only, then select
remove. Why does the entire 9iAS need to be de-installed as
    well?
If I keep the 9iAS installation with iFS 1.1 and install iFS 1.2
which takes presidence. Can I run both?
    Regards,
    AJC

However, Apache 2.2 is the most current version, and
I'd really like to upgrade. Do I simply install 2.2
    from scratch?
You install it from scratch (compile it), yes. Simply, maybe
Do I upgrade? Are there any common
    stumbling blocks?
I don't know about issues with apache2.2 on os x per se, but you will have a learning curve if you aren't familiar with compiling binaries from source, in general.

  • Error after upgrading 9IAS 9.0.3.0.0 to 10.1.2

    Hi Team
after upgrading the infraestructure and applications server succesfully I got this error when I tried to start the middle tier
    /u02/oracle/product/OAS-10.1.2/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd
[Fri May 18 09:35:50 2007] [warn] module oc4j_module is already loaded, skipping
    I modified the opmn.xml and i modified to ssl-disabled
    then
    dcmctl updateconfig -ct opmn
    and I got this error
    /u02/oracle/product/OAS-10.1.2/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl start: execing httpd
[Fri May 18 10:36:24 2007] [warn] module oc4j_module is already loaded, skipping
    Any help would be appreciated

is Apache starting or not ?
Anyway it's a warning not an error. Check recursively through all the httpd.conf ->mod_xxx.conf > mod_xxxx.conf
i.e. read through all the includes. You will find that mod_oc4j is loaded more than once.

  • 9iAS and 10gAS changes in "jndi-env.properties"

I am refering to the file jndi-env.properties in .ear file of a j2ee application.
If we want to deploy the application on Oracle 9iAS, we have to specify the IP and the Application name in provider URL:
    java.naming.provider.url=ormi://localhost/APP
But in 10g, this seems to have changed. We have to include the port with IP:
    java.naming.provider.url=ormi://localhost:12409/APP
Is there a work around if we want to omit the port from this parameter?
    Thanks a lot :)

Found the correct way to write the URL
    java.naming.provider.url=opmn:ormi://<host>:<request-port>:<oc4j-instance>/<application>

  • Does anyone upgrade from 9iAS to 10g?

    Dear all,
Does anyone upgrade from 9iAS to 10g only? The EBS version (11.5.8) and the oracle database version (9.2.0.4) are still same.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

You can upgrade 9i database to 10g in Ebusiness suite using metalink note
    Note:362203.1 Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0)
Note:369693.1 Using Oracle Applications with a Split Configuration Database Tier on Oracle 10g Release 2
But for the application server components you can follow
Note:125767.1 Upgrading Developer 6i with Oracle Applications 11i
But Application server itself should be upgraded from 9iAS to 10gAS if you are planning to move your oracle applications Ebusiness suite to release 12.
    Check the following metalink note

Please contact Oracle support immediately. An upgrade should not normally generate messages such as the ones you are seeing. You will need the assistant of Oracle support to work through the issues.
Possible resolutions that support will investigate
    1. Making sure you are running the very latest upgrade scripts
    2. Investigate if any oneoff patches have been released for situations you are running into.
    3. Log bugs for issues which have not been seen before and work with you until they are resolved.

  • Can Discoverer/Reports Services be run independently in 9iASR2/10gAS

Just wondering if anyone has run ONLY the following services in App Server:
    -Reports Server
    -Discoverer 4i Plus/Viewer
Since these 2 products don't install unless the entire 9iAS R2/10gAS shebang is installed, I'm just wondering if they can be run independent of all the other J2EE stuff that is in AS -- which takes up a lot of machine resources. Compared to 9iAS Rel 1, Rel 2 is beast!
Has anyone done this in a production environment?

Thanks for the reply. I guess I really want to know if both these services can still be run as separate applications and not as J2EE services. I'd like to be able to shut down all J2EE-based services since they require so much resources.
I am attempting to run the server on a dual 400mhz Ultrasparc II Sun box -- lets just say its not running optimally.

  • Migrating reports 6i to Oracle 9i

    Hello,
I am currently running an Oracle 8.0.5 Database about 1.2 GigaBytes in size on a Novell 5.1 server.
    1) I want to migrate to a Linux Red Hat 8 Server (I know that I have to upgrade to Linus Red Hat Enterprise 3 (ES)) No questions about that.
    2) I want to upgrade from a 8.0.5 Database to a 9i database. I have heard there are 3 possible ways of doing this: directly by import/export, going to 8.0.6 then 9i or going to 8i and then 9i. What do you think is best ? and why ?
    3) I want to go from a Client/Server architecture with about 8 clients to a Web architecture. I have heard that I would need to purchase iAS (Internet Application Server) in order to manage multiple Forms/Reports request at the same time. What can iAS do that I cannot do with Oracle 8i, Oracle 9i ?
Also, my current Oracle Forms/Reports application uses Parameter Forms and is based on the RUN_PRODUCT builds. Going to 9i with iAS, what kind of modifications should I expect to do to my Oracle Forms/Reports to goto a Web based application ? I have heard that I might have to modify some Report Triggers ?
My Oracle Forms/Reports is developped in Oracle Forms/Reports 6i. Would I need to rewrite my application for Oracle 9i ?
    Your feedback is appreciated,
    Regards,
    PT

Oracle 8i and 9i are the databases, 9iAS is the application server. You need 9iAS or 10gAS to run Forms and Reports in a web environment. It doesn't matter what database version you are using.
Run_product cannot be used in Forms 9i anymore. You will have to rewrite the code to use run_report_object instead.
Using Report parameter forms in a web environment involves a lot of modifications in both Reports and Forms. See:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/pdf/10g/frmrepparamform.pdf
As a start, read the following on OTN:

  • Command in forms 6i to open a folder

We use forms 6i for all development. We do not develop at all in 9iAS or 10gAS. However we have some clients who use the application server, in which case we take the 6i form, convert to 10gAS form, and recompile.
In one form we have the following code:
    IF get_application_property(user_interface) = 'WEB' THEN
    web.show_document(<location>l, '_blank');
    ELSE
    host( 'cmd /C start /W '||<location>);
    END IF;
The host command works fine in the client/server environment, and opens up the relevant directory on the local PC. But the webutil command does not work. I need some way of doing the same as the host command i.e. to open a folder/directory from the local PC. I heard there was an addon or something for webutil to allow to run in 6i. Either this, or any way of opening the folder.
    Thanks.

    Hi!
There is a thread about Webutil in forms 6i. May take a look: [Webutil in forms 6i|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=210430&start=0&tstart=0]
