Upgrade ADS to Windows 2008 R2

Dear expert
We have active directory server (ADS) that run in windows 2003 and connect to our portal (netweaver 2004s). our company have plan to upgrade the ADS to windows 2008 R2, the question is, any issue regarding this plan? especially about connection between portal and ADS 2008 R2 ?
Thxs.

Hi!!
As you can read in [SAP note 1383873|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1383873], Windows Server 2008 R2 is not still supported by SAP. As the note specifies, the PAM will reflect that operating system as soon as it is supported (for Oracle, check also [note 1303262|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1303262]).
I tried to provide you a more tight estimation, and after conversations with the developers, I can advance you that it is not possible to expect the 710 products released for Windows Server 2008 R2 before around four weeks; 700 products will be released after 710 (very rough stimation; if there are problems the release could be even postponed!).
I am aware that your question focuses strictly on the Active Directory, but anyway it was not still checked by SAP developers. Take into account that there are several changes in the authentication methods used and even some cryptographic protocols could not be available. This could make some of your applications to fail.
In particular, I am aware of a case that, after upgrading the Domain Controllers to Windows Server 2008 R2, the SSO (SPnego) stopped working due to the fact that the DES encryption protocol was no longer available, and so Kerberos was not supported. In fact, if you check [note 994791|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/994791], you will discover that the current SPNego Wizard utilized by SAP was tested using the following Windows Kerberos Environments:
o  Microsoft Windows Server 2000 Active Directory
o  Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory
o  Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Active Directory
But not Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory, that is a completely different AD (as Windows Server 2008 R2 is an operating system that is completely different from Windows Server 2008, even though the name seems to be confusingly indicating otherwise).
As a summary, depending on your configuration, your applications could even stop working if you upgrade your Active Directory before it is released.
Cheers!!

  • Running ADS on windows 2008 x64

    Hi All
I need to find out if ADOBE Document Services (ADS) can run on windows server 2008 x64. I know that according to Note 925741, ADS is not supported on a Windows 64 Bit servers but on 32bit servers, meaning you have to install it separately.  My question is, since this note details windows server 2003 x64 as not supported by ADS, does this still hold for ADS (NetWeaver EHP1) on windows server 2008 x64 servers (being new and all).
Anyone who can assist, please advice
    Ronny

    Hello,
this is listed in the PAM. http://serivce.sap.com/PAM
But the exact answer is yes, the ADS supports x64 Windows 2008 installation.
    Only IA64 is not supported.

  • SharePoint 2013 Server OS upgrade from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2

Is it possible to have SharePoint 2013 farm to have mixed version of OS (Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2012 R2).
We have a request to upgrade our farm servers from WIN 2008 R2 to Win 2012 R2. We have 5 servers in farm -
2 App servers - running with Central Admin, Service Applications, User Profile
3 Web Front End Servers- running web application, search and workflow manager
the database layer is separate on sql 2012 R2
We want to upgrade OS from windows 2008 R2 to windows 2012 R2 and SQL to SQL 2014.
What will be right approach to do OS upgrade in above scenario to minimize the impact of downtime.
May be add windows 2012 based servers in farm one by one and replace the windows 2008 R2 based servers from server.
    Regards,
    Kunal Abrol

Its possible, but I wouldn't recommend it.  The problem is that you can only install SharePoint 20103 on Windows Server 2012 r2 using the slipstreamed SP1 version.  I assume that you used the regular version to install on you Server 2008 r2 versions.
Even if you upgrade those servers to SP1 there are some minor differences in the builds between slipstreamed SP1 and upgraded SP1.  So although it will work it isn't recommended.
Also, you should be aware the upgrade of inplace SharePoint servers running Windows 2008 r2 to Windows 2012 r2 is not supported.
To upgrade to server 2012 you'll need to add 2012 servers to your environment using the slipstreamed version os SharePoint and then remove the old server 2008 r2 servers as soon as possible.  For the period of the upgrade you should be able to get away
with running the farm in a mixed state.

  • It's possbile to upgraded from win2003 x64 sp2 which installed SCOM 2007 R2 into windows 2008 R2 directly?

    current OS: windows 2003 R2 x64 SP2
current SCOM version: SCOM 2007 R2
current database version: SQL Server 2005
it's possbile to upgraded from win2003  which installed SCOM 2007 R2  into windows 2008 R2 directly without reconfiguartion SCOM?

    Hi,
And as far as I know, in-place operating system upgrade could work, but there is no document about this. Please take backup before doing upgrade.
If you want to in place upgrade the OS, we can simply move SCOM databases to  new servers and rebuild management servers one at a time. the downtime for SCOM would be very minimum if the management group has the capacity for agents to report to failover
management servers while the primary MS is getting rebuilt. You do not have to perform in place upgrade on the OS to keep SCOM.
Based on your need, I would like to suggest you add a Windows 2008 R2 as additional management server for your management group. And if possible, please also upgrade your SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.

Dear Yan, Since rebuild/config SCOM Server is very complicated so it's better that I can just upgraded OS into windows 2008 R2 without do anything else.

  • Solaris nis client can't connect to Windows 2008 NIS Server across subnets

I have been using Microsoft Windows Server for NIS for years to centralize some accounts accessing Solaris and Linux OS.
Windows 2003 R2 Indentity Management for UNIX version of Server for NIS was last working version with Solairs.
After upgrading Domain to Windows 2008 all Solaris clients that are on different subnets fail to bind and connect to NIS servers now.
These servers already were setup using ypinit -c to manually add the NIS servers to connect to and prior to Windows 2008 this worked.
Now no Solaris nis clients on different subnets (no firewall between) can connect , but other Unix/Linux OS connect fine.
Is this a known issue and can we get a resolution as it seems only Solaris is affected?

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
"I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .

  • Migrating windows 2003 standard edition  to windows 2008 enterprise edition

    Hi
We are using ECC 5.0 and our PRD system is running on windows 2003 standard edition, and recently we have got some physical memory problem.as windows 2003 standard edition supports only 4 GB of RAM. and we want to extend our RAM for that we are planning to upgrade os to windows 2008 enterprise edition,is that possible.and after upgrading OS what are the activities that need to be performed for SAP to run succesfully, kindly suggest.
    Regards
    Pranav

    Hi Markus
I read note SAP Note 690432 - Windows 2003 Support in it regarding upgradation of os  windows 2003 standard edition to windows 2003 enterprise edition.
    Upgrade of Your Operating System
If you upgrade an existing SAP system to Windows Server 2003 perform the
    following actions:
    o Install the latest R3DLLINS
You find the latest dynamic link libraries R3DLLINS for Windows
Server 2003 on the EXT-Kernel CD in the NTPATCH directory.
o Replace the R/3 kernel with the EXT-Kernel.
If you do not replace it you will get error "SICK" after the first
    logon attempt after the start.
In this case, download the disp+work package(s) from the SAP
Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/patches and unpack the
    patch(es) to directory usr\sap\exe:
    dw*_<patch-level>
Use at least patch level 186.
o Use the latest saposcol version.
This version supports the changed performance counter of Windows
Server 2003 to determine values for ST06 and RZ20.
You can find the latest version in file saposcol_<Patch Level>.CAR.
    in the SAP Service Marketplace.
o SAP DB only: See SAP Note 315237.o Compatibility of the Hardware with Windows Server 2003
You can perform the upgrade to Windows Server 2003 only if the
hardware has been explicitly released for this purpose. To check,
    do one of the following:
    - If the Windows Server 2003 CD is available, check compatibility
with WINNT32.EXE in the \I386 directory. The exact statement
is: <DRIVE:>\I386\WINNT32 /CHECKUPGRADEONLY. The result is
stored as text file WINNT32.LOC in the present Windows
    directory (e.g. C:\WINNT).
    - The hardware has successfully passed SAP hardware certification
    (http://www.addon.de).
    - The hardware is contained in the Microsoft Hardware
    Compatibility List (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl).
    - The hardware has been released for Windows Server 2003 by the
manufacturer. This information is published on the
    corresponding website.
    o Kerberos Single Sign-On
When the SAP system is installed on Windows Server 2003 you can
setup the Kerberos Single Sign-On. If you use the kerberos protocol
the information exchanged between the SAP frontend and the
application server for authentication is encrypted.
The procedure for setting up Single Sign-On is described in all
recent installation guides which you can download from the SAP
    Service Marketplace at: service.sap.com/instguides.
o SAP domain under Windows Server 2003
Follow the instructions of the Windows documentation for the
migration of a Windows NT 4 domain to Windows 2003. For the SAP
environment some additional points need to be observed.
For Windows NT 4 there are two models for the SAP system domain:
    - Single domain
All users and the SAP system build one single domain. This
domain can be migrated to Windows Server 2003 and exist there
    as single domain.
    - Additional domain
There is one domain for the users and a second domain for the
SAP system(s). For a migration to Windows Server 2003 the SAP
system domain has to be created as child domain under the user
domain. A "Top-down" procedure is to be used. The higher domain
(the user domain) must be migrated prior to the SAP child
domain. If the user and SAP domain is part of a larger domain
structure the complete domain structure for Windows Server 2003
needs to be planned in a preparing phase. Usually, the
structure created under Windows NT 4 has to be re-arranged and
    consolidated.
The name space of the root domain and all sub-ordinated domains
has to be defined and the distribution of the DNS services
    needs to be determined.
    Note the following:
The SAP domain has to be created as child domain.
The SAP domain must not be converted into an organizational
unit (OU). OUs are not supported by R3SETUP and R3up.
in it nowhere it is mentioned about system copy so plz suggest.

  • Upgrade of Integation Services (Windows 2012 R2) on Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG fails

    Here is the scenario:
    Legacy Host: Windows 2008 R2
Guest VM: Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG cluster.
After importing the VM (2008 R2 and Exchange 2013 DAG) into a 2012 R2 host (Cluster).  (copy VM files to new 2012 R2host) Everything works fine.
Then upgrading "Installation Services" (for Windows 2012 R2 host) on the imported VM runs fine with no errors to the "Restart" prompt. VM than shows: "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn
of your computer." Hangs there for about 20 minutes until is says "shutting down". Hangs there for 20 minutes until power off. Restart to normal start; "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turnoff your computer." proceeds slowly
to "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn of your computer." hangs there again indefinite. Sometime hangs at shutdown cycle and "Configuring Windows updates 32% complete. Do not turn of your computer." indefinitely.
I moved 20 other machines from a 2008 R2 host to new Windows 2012 R2 hosts all of these machines install the 2012 R2 Integration services just fine on the 2008 R2 VM. Just the 2008 R2 VMs clustered (DAG) and Exchange 2013 SP1 do not take the Integration
    Services upgrade.
Any advise from Microsoft? I know I could decommission the DAG and Exchange machines and install Integration services on the native box before Exchange and DAG and that would sure work, but I'd rather avoid that amount of work for a simple integration layer
    upgrade.

  • Windows 2008 Server upgrade

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade one of my Servers from Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise to Windows 2012 but I am not sure if I can and if I do what the implications would be.
The server in question is my Hyper V server host and has several other servers running from it that are stored on an external storage unit.
Will I be able to upgrade this server?
If not what are my options as far as reinstalling goes? The virtual servers are mainly production servers so I want to reduce the down time.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi alamb200,
You can upgrade your Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with SP1 to Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 Standard or Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 Datacenter with no problem.

  • Upgrading R / 3 4.7 system to ECC6.0 with EHP4 along with windows 2008

    Hi All,
I am looking for your feedback about the plan for upgrading our Landscape to ECC 6. with EHP4 from R/34.7E.
    Current Environment: R/3 4.7X110 with SQL 2000 in 32 bit windows 2003
Planning to upgrade to the level of : ECC6.0 with EHP4 64 bit windows 2008, SQL 2005 Database
Based on the previous experience in upgrade I have planned in the following ways.
Since my basis component is in the level of 63, its possible for me to restore the SQL 2000 database in SQL 2005 (Using System copy tool )
Step 1: Migration of OS / DB using system copy tool (R/3 4.7 with SQL 2005 in 64 bit Windows 2003 ), Then will leave the system for testing for some period and after the confirmation, planned to start the upgrade
Step 2: By meeting all the prerequisites, Planned to upgrade to ECC6.0 with EHP4 on the OS / DB upgraded system.
Step 3: Once the upgrade completed / With the confirmation from the functional and technical consultants, I planned to upgrade the windows 2003 to windows 2008 using system copy tool.
Note: I am not using SQL 2008 - Project decision.
The above mentioned plan is the only way(proper way) for doing such activities or is there any other way to shorten the project.
I should not ask the below question (Even after reading PAM and SAP note 1054740), But kindly regret me for asking this one, out of own curiosity, i am asking the below one.
    1. Is there any possible to install SAP R / 3 4.7 in windows 2008 with 2005 (This will help me to shorten the project). I am completely aware that SAP wont support R/3 4.7 with windows 2008, if its not at all possible is there any other work around for me to shorten? Let me know your suggestions and thoughts
Your valuable inputs will help me to proceed further with the plans (I surfed the SDN and read master guides already) . I really want to make sure , the way which i am going is the right one.
    Thanks and Regards
    Vijay Kumar

    Hi Jitendra,
Hope you should check the PAM again , Its supported for sure and also for upgrading to EHP4 - SQL 2005 is the Prerequiste.
    Hi Abhi and Others,
    Thanks for all your support.
I have successfully completed the project for my landscape and it was a great success too.
As you all said, since I had the hardware availability and time frame as well. Hence, I have tried both the possibilities.
Note :I would prefer and stick with the SAP proposed and supported way and even for my project I have followed the same. So I would recommend to stick with SAP supported one.
But for the own technical interest I have tried the other option as well which is not supported by SAP and also faced some typical issues as well / but solved on my own with some tricks and other activities. So, this option is also possible but highly risked one and of course(more importantly) which is not supported by SAP. So, i would recommend to go with the SAP recommended way.
Thanks for everyone and I am closing the thread
    Regards
    Vijay

  • Error Upgrading ICM from 7.2.4 to 8.5.2 on Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade from ICM 7.2.4 to ICM 8.5.2 on Windows 2008 R2 in lab. I am using the following procedure.
    Old system
    Domain controller Windows 2003
    Sprawler Windows 2003 ( Icm 7.2.4)
    New System
Domain Controller Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition
Sprawler Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition (SQL 2005 with SP4)
Taking the registry backup of the old system using registry utility.
Running the EDMT tool on the new 2008 Sprawler machine for technology refresh.
Running the ICM installer for Technology Refresh and selecting the registry and ICM patch (8.5.2)
System finishes the setup without any error and after reboot tries to install the patch.
At this point I get the attached error.
Has anyone faced such error while upgrading.
    Regards,
    Amir

    Hi Amir,
As per the attached screenshot, it prompts out that your system has not went through the MR of 8.0. I suspect that you cannot upgrade your version from 7.2.4 directly to 8.5. Instead you would need to upgrade yur current version to 8.0 and from 8.0 you can upgrade to 8.5
    Hope this helps!!!

  • Upgrade from a two tier EBS 11i 11.5.10.2 on Windows 2003 Apps and Windows 2008 R2 DB  tier to two Tier R12.2.3 both on Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
Any ideas about the best practices for the migration/upgrade reflected with the below question?
I have a source EBS11i 11.5.10.2 running as a two tier configuration ( apps tier on server  ora10 on Windows 2003, DB tier 11.2.0.2 on server ora1 on Windows 8 R2. Can I use the Note 1377213.1 for a migration to a two tier configuration ( apps tier on server T10 running Windows 2008 R2 and EBS 12.2.3 and DB tier running 11.2.0.4 on Windows 2008 R2 )? What alternative approach could you suggest? As far as I know EBS11i is not certified on Windows 2008 R2 and R12.2.0 is not certified on Windows 2003.

Yes you can by following "Application Tier Upgrades and Migrations" section -- Install 12.2 apps tier on 64-bit Windows and proceed with the upgrade.

    > We are using R/3 4.7 Enterprise 110, kernel 640,basis release 620, Oracle version is 10.2.0.4,so you means it can't be migrated to Windows 2008.
    Yes, that's right.
    > Can it be migrated to windows 2003 as in the installation guide of R/3 4.7 enterprise its mentioned that only supported windows operating system for this version is windows 2000.
    Yes.
    > So do you mean that we need to upgrade SAP version & after that we need to do OS migration?
I'd also recommend upgrading to a higher version since the support for 4.71 ran out in 2009 already.

    Hi,
Most probably these kind of errors pop up if the drivers are not compatible. Do you find any .dmp files under folder C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources ? If so
open it with debugger and check for the affected .sys file name.
Check the DVD media, or try a different media.

  • Mac os x wiki server can't authenticate user password from active directory recently after we upgraded to windows 2008 server.

after upgraded to windows 2008 server, our  mac os x wiki server can't authenticate user password anymore. How can I re-bind the wiki server to the AD again? thanks in advance.

Solved it by deleting the user and creating a new one with the same userID.
Maybe it occured because I marked the "user has to change password after first login" box when resetting the password but didn't yet allow him to do so in the webpages menu?!?
