Upgrade BOXIR2 to BO XI3.1

Hi,
I have BO XIR2 running on one system and I want to upgrade the version to XI3.1 SP2 FP2.7. I do not want to perform a separate installation. Is it possible to upgrade the version and also the contents without a separate installation? If yes, is there any documentation available which can guide step by step?

Just a clarification,
XI 3.1 does in fact have an upgrade option for XIR2 (I have had to repair 2 systems after customers attempted this myself) It is not the safest option (as it deletes your XIR2 and copies the CMS DB to the current data source nby default) and using a 2nd server is recommended in most cases but the upgrade is available. If using XI 3.1 to upgrade then you will have to patch to SP2 and FP 2.7 seperately after the upgrade rather than before. Upgrading will also be available with integrated SP3 (estimated to be out in a week or so) which will hopefully be more reliable. You will always have more risk with an upgrade since attempting to do everything on 1 server and using any method please backup your CMS DB and FRS priorr to any attempts.
On the int kit message is the SAP client installed on the server? SP2 for XI 3.1 requires a recent version of the SAP client. Also the jco muyst be installed

there are 2 options
1) upgrade, install XI 3.x on top of XIR2 and choose the upgrade option. This is risky so backup your FRS and CMS db 1st.
2) if a 2nd computer or VM is available then migrate using the import wizard or combination CMS DB copy and FRS copy. (these would be the recommended way to (upgrade/migrate).

XI3.1 Sizing Documentation

Hi Ingo,
I have followed the links to the XI 3.1 sizing recommendations and it opens the XIR2 Sizing Documentation.
Is there an actual 3.1 document that lists all of the new server types?

Hi Pascal, as Ingo has stated, the sizing for XIR2 is still valid for XI3.1. We have just upgraded from XIR2 to XI3.1 and we did not change any hardware configuration. You can find the sizing guide for XIR2 at:

Please note that the sizing guide is merely a general guideline only. In reality, sizing really varies from company to company. There is no cookie-cutter formula. Very often, it is a trial-n-error process. The good news is that the XI platform is highly-scalable. You can always scale-out when needed.

RFC adapter not started (Error starting AS Java Service XPI Adapter)

Dear Experts,
We have recently Upgraded our sustem from XI3.0 to PI 7.1, and have encountered a peculiar error in RFC adapter which could not be started
error says: Error starting AS Java Service XPI Adapter: RFC
corresponding instance when started says
Error starting AS Java Service XPI Adapter: RFC on DVEBMGS00
Hence our RFC channels are not functioning

can you try to restart XPI Adapter:RFC in NWA. if still it throws error then try to restart java stack.

Do Web Intelligence Support Linked Universes in BO XI 3.1 sp3

Hi Folks!
I know WebI in XIR2 doesnt support Linked Universes. So we used to build reports in Deski as we need to generate reports on liniked universe.(one core and three derived) now we are upgrading the version to Xi3.1 Sp3 and i am curious to know whether XIr 3.1 WebI support linked universes.

Yes, I used Web Intelligence (never actually used Deski in my life!) I am surprised to hear that XIR2 Webi reports did not work with linked universes. I remember reading several long forum entries regarding linked universes and the pros and cons. And I am pretty sure they were back 2-3 years ago.
But maybe they were using Deski.
We have a main Universe that we have been using for a couple of years that we have typically just added to when required. Then we were confronted with having to add data from a new department, which was not very easily related to the existing data. So we have been considering linked Universes. We still have not decided which way to go.
I built a new Universe based on this department's data, and then linked it to a test copy of our original main Universe. Then I took an existing complex report in Webi and changed the Universe to the new linked Universes. Then I had to remap the data (it makes you do this automatically) and do some other adjustments, but it all worked fine.
Funny thing is, once I got it working, I did a "save as" on the universe, knowing I needed a backup in case something went wrong, and when I tried to switch back between InfoView and Rich Client, it got all messed up! I spent another few weeks trying to figure that out. But that was not related directly to the linked Universe. I can refer you to messages about that.
So, my point is, yes, linked Universes do work with Webi in 3.1. Have I done thorough testing? No. But I have taken one rather complex report and migrated it to a linked Universe in Webi, and it works.

Difference between BOXI 3.0 and 3.1 ?

We are in the process of upgrading BOXIR2 to BOXI3.0. We had already dowloaded the software, but I recently found that there is another updated version BOXI3.1.
Can anybody explain what is the difference between BOXI 3.0&3.1, and we need the version which supports both Java and .NET.
And one more question, does BO support Virtual Machine Installation?

The newer version has .net infoview(3.1) Provided you do a fresh installation of 3.1.
If you upgrade the old 3.0 version throgh the service pack then .net infoview will not be available.
I am not sure about support for virtual machines.

BOX31 - Users cannot access InfoView

After upgrading BOXIR2 to BOX31 the users cannot access InfoView. The following message is shown:
Account Information Not Recognized: Enterprise authentication could not log you on ...
As administrator I can access OK.
What has changed between BOXIR2 and BOX31 in terms of user authentication?

The structure of the users is as follow:
Management (at the top)
- Accounting
- Marketing
- Sales, etc
Users can then access one of the above, only one.
Universe restrictions has been applied to allow users to see information related to their department only.
We do not use any Windows AD authentication, it is just Business Objects.

Hi All,
Is ithere any way by which we can disable user automatically when he/she leaves Organization.
User addition/deletion should be automatic.
Current authentication way is Enterprise login.
Is there any readymade SDK available for this?
We are using BO XI R2 (JAVA SDK)

Hi Chaitanya,
Maintainence of users and groups is an Administrative task.
Normally outside of the SDK this would simply involve disabling or deleting the user from the User+Groups area of the CMC. This action will result in the ownership of the schedule list for the user passing over to the Administrator.
As this is the workflow when not using the SDK it will be possible to automate this workflow with the SDK too.
In XI3.1 there are several notes which cover this workflow, i.e.:
1609054 - How to remove a user using Java SDK from Business Objects Enterprise?
The same packages\classes will apply to XIr2:
Package com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore
This package provides the ability to query for InfoObjects, as well as add, delete, and update them.
Please also be aware that XIr2 is no longer in support, you would be advised to upgrade to at least XI3.1 SP3 for patch support.

XI3.0 simple upgrade - Few questions

Hi Gurus,
I ran into some issues with my upgrade to XI3.0 from XIR2 SP4. I was using a simple upgrade method.
1- It seemed like the upgrade was going fine throughout. I stopped all the services before upgrade (including Tomcat). When prompted for tomcat5.5 ports, I used the default values though the XIR2 tomcat uses those ports. I thought it should not be a problem because XIR2 tomcat is stopped anyways. After the install, I noticed that the cmc and infoView folders in tomcat55/work/catlina/localhost were missing. Needless to say that CMC and InfoView did not work.
2- I thought I'll uninstall and use different ports, but the uninstall did not work. i tried both through the media and through Add/Remove programs. The media uninstall gave a 'Fatal Error' in the end and the Add/Remove program errored immediately saying 'Error applying Transforms......'
Questions:
1- I'd like someone to first please confirm that what I noticed after the install was because I used the same port numbers.
2- How can I make the uninstall to work?
3- Since the upgrade process migrated the repository, can I uninstall XIR3 and 3.0, perform a new 3.0 installtion that uses the (migrated) repository?

go for 7.11 (i.e ehp1 of 7.1) ..as it have other features to use..
especially proxy feature in AAE (using XI protocol in SOAP) and also Idoc packaging which will be veryful ..
for compatible side 7.1 onwards we have pattern in service interface(message interface) with XI 3.0 stateless..

BO XI3.1 SP3 to SP6.3 Upgrade

Hi,
We have BOXI3.1 SP3 FP3.1 with Oracle Application Server on Solaris.
We have planned to upgrade to FP6.3 and the path will be SP4 + SP6 + FP6.3.
Also in SP6 OAS is not supported, so we will use weblogic server.
Could you please suggest the sequence of action that I will be following.
Below steps I am thinking not sure if they are correct or is there any short steps.
Stop all services except CMS
Apply SP4
<what actions needed ? Do I need to deploy war files and start BO and keep only CMS up?>
Apply SP6 <Do I need to take any special care here ? CMS database is in Oracle 11gR2>
<Do I need to deploy in weblogic ?><What else I need to take care ?>
Apply FP6.3
Generate war files and deploy
<Any other thing I need to take care>
<Any special consideration for weblogic>
currently the server java is 1.5. Do I need to upgrade the server jav ? If yes then at what stage of upgrade ?

first of all, are you aware that already SP7 is available for XI 3.1?! If you need to update anyhow you should consider update to SP7.
I would procced as follows (My assumption is that XI 3.1 is on the same Host as the OAS and WebLogic):
1. Stop all Services
2. Make a Backup of the CMS DB and the FRS
3. Start only CMS, IFRS and OFRS
4. Update to SP4
5. Update to SP6
6. Update to SP6 Fix Pack 3
7. Configure the WebLogic to JDK 7 (JDK 6 is out of support by Oracle)
8. Re- deploy Web Applications
9. Start everything

JMS Receiver FCC Problem After Upgraded from SP19 to SP22 in XI3.0

I am facing a problem in my Receiver JMS adapter in FCC just after the upgrading it from SP19 to SP22 in XI 3.0 by our basis consultant. Before that everything was working perfect in DEV.
I am getting the below mentioned error in CC monitoring.
> MP: Exception caught with cause com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.trans.TransformException: Error converting Message: 'java.lang.Exception: Exception in XML Parser (format problem?):'java.lang.NullPointerException''; nested exception caused by: java.lang.Exception: Exception in XML Parser (format problem?):'java.lang.NullPointerException'
This problem is happening in other scenario too in our DEV system.
But at the same time since we have not applied any upgrade in QA therefore same scenario is working fine.

I got the solution from SAP.. there was a problem in the SP22 for XI 3.0 which I donloaded from Service Market Place. Now I have applied the correct SP22 to my system and now it is working fine...

Upgrading From Business Objects XI2 to XI3.0

I can't seem to find the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 Upgrade Guide. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Hi Shane,
The upgrade guide is not directly on the product guides. You have to follow the link to the SAP service marketplace.
Within the guide there are 3 options
1) Install directly on top, only available for simple (single node) installations
2) Install new and update CMS DB
3) Install new and copy over objects.

Yes you do. XI 3.1 comes with a separate license key and the R2 license key cannot be used with R3.
