Upgrade BusinessObjects XI R2 to BusinessObjects Eneterprise XI 3.1

I am trying to upgrade BusinessObjects Xi Release 2 to BusinessObjects Enterprise Xi 3.1 on solaris.
Scenario is like i want to use same CMS database instance that i am using for BusinessObjects Release 2 as CMS database instance for BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1

BOE - 4.1 SP1 upgrade failed

Hi,
I am upgrading BusinessObjects Explorer from 4.0 to 4.1 SP1 on Unix box, the installation failed with this error "“ERROR: Could not establish a connection with any CMS“.
Have anyone seen this error before?

so i guess your Tomcat is shut down. Please start the tomcat and the SIA. Check via top if the tomcat and cms is running.
Afterwards try to log in to the cmc.
If this works fine stop all Services except CMS, IFRS and OFRS and run the Explorer Update.

Oracle ODBC System DSN Not Accessible in CR 2008 Developer x64

Operating System: Windows Vista Enterprise x64 SP-2
Application: Crystal Reports 2008 Developer SP-1 v12.1.0.892
Oracle InstantClient Basic x64 v11.1.0.7.0 with ODBC and SQLPlus components installed
In the CR 2008 Database Expert, under Create New Connection > ODBC (RDO), the system DSN that I created to access an Oracle database does not appear. The Oracle InstantClient and its ODBC componenet are working normally: I can access the Oracle database in question using SQLPlus or with a Perl script that accesses this database using the Oracle ODBC driver.
Everything works normally on another system using Windows Vista Enterprise x86 SP-2, the same version of Crystal Reports 2008, and the same version of the Oracle InstantClient for x86. In this scenario the system DSN does appear in the list in the Database Expert, and various reports are able to access the database.
Is CR 2008 Developer running on Vista x64 a supported configuration? Notwithstanding this, are there any workarounds?

Hi,
1. It's important to understand which kind of DSN you have on an x64 system.
2. We can create an ODBC connection (DSN) on the 32-bit side of the system or on the 64-bit side of the system.
3. 32-bit applications will only see ODBC connections created in the 32-bit side, and 64-bits applications will only see ODBC connections from the 64-bit side. Each kind of application has is own registry.
4. To setup DSN for 32-bit application you must use: %WINDIR%\SysWOW6\odbcad32.exe
5. To setup DSN for 64-bit application you must use: %WINDIR%\System32\odbcad32.exe
6. As BusinessObjects Eneterprise is a 32 bit application so we should create an ODBC DSN using the 'odbcad32.exe' from '%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\'.

Turn Off BOXIR2 InfoView New Crystal Reports Document

How do you turn off the option of creating a new Crystal Reports document in InfoView?
We are only using the Web Intelligence functionality at this time in InfoView and the 'Crystal Report' option in the 'New' menu is causing confusion and curiosity and we want to be able to turn it off.
Any suggestions or documentation I can reference?

Hi John,
The below solution will not turn off the Crystal Report creation option from New tab in InfoView but it will not show the any option related to creation of Crystal Report. This will ensure that user can not create any crystal report from Infoview leading to step away the confusion and curiosity about it.
You can specify the Crystal Reports Explorer features that are available to each user.
Please try out the following.
1) Log on to CMC as as Administrator.
2) Go to BusinessObjects Eneterprise Applications; then click Crystal Report Explorer.
By default, each user is granted full access to all the available features. You can set the availability of each feature for specific users, or for groups.
3) So accordingly select Manage group or Manage Users Tab; and select the user or group whose options you want top modify.
3.1) If you want to set a user's access rights to be the same as for each group to which the user belongs, select Use Group Rights
3.2)If you want to set specific access rights for the user, ensure that you clear Use Group Rights check box, then select or clear features from the hierarchy of available options.
If users belong to more than one group, they will receive the combined access rights for all the groups to which they belong.

To what extent can XIR2 users use XIR3 platform, if at all?

We are deploying XIR3 and we have suddenly been asked if XIR2 users can use the system. Is so what can / cannot be used? For example:
1. Can an XIR2 user login to an XIR2 repository?
2. Can they use an XIR2 Desktop Intelligence against an XIR3 CMS, Universe?
3. Can they schedule an XIR2 report via an XIR3 repository?
My suspicions are that they cannot, but if someone would be so kind as to clarify or advise which document to refer to that would be great

It's a large multinational company. One team is Global projects (just migrated from v 5.1.6 to XIR3). The other team is on a seperate group (R2, and will not upgrade for a while).
One team has an XIR3 server, R3 universes and R3 reports. The other team only has an R2 deployment (reports, universes, connections - all). The R2 deployment has a different set of users, reports and universes but they need some of the R3 reports, connections and universes even though their users do not exist in the R3 environment.
I found the following on page 57 of xi3_bip_upgrade_en.pdf:
Although it is recommended that you upgrade all your Desktop Intelligence
clients to Desktop Intelligence XI 3.0, you can continue using Desktop
Intelligence XI Release 2 clients against a BusinessObjects Enterprise XI
3.0 server during the upgrade phase.
You can continue to use Desktop Intelligence XI Release 2 clients to connect
to an XI 3.0Central Management Server (CMS), and to create, view, and
edit Desktop Intelligence XI 3.0 documents that use either of the following.
u2022 XI Release 2 universes.
u2022 XI 3.0 universes that are based on XI Release 2 universe connections.
You can also use Desktop Intelligence XI Release 2 and XI 3.0 clients on
the same computer.
Desktop Intelligence XI Release 2 does not work with universes that are
based on XI 3.0 universe connections.
Desktop Intelligence XI 3.0 clients work with both XI Release 2 and XI 3.0
universes and universe connections. However, you cannot use Desktop
Intelligence XI 3.0 to connect to an XI Release 2 CMS, or to use Desktop

BOXI R2 universe integration / consolidation

Hi! I'm looking for a utility/application that helps me integrate/consolidate universes in BOXI R2.
The application should be able to merge universes easily (for eg. development and production universes) and should visually highlight the differences in terms of new/changed/deleted objects, tables, and conditions.

Upgrade to BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP3

Hi everyone,
I have to upgrade to BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP3 but I have some doubts. In the server I find the following products installed:
-     BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1
-     BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Spanish Language Pack
-     BusinessObjects XI Integration for SAP Solutions
-     BusinessObjects XI Integration for SAP Solutions Spanish Language Pack
-     Crystal Reports 2008 SP1
-     Crystal Reports 2008 SP1 Spanish Language Pack
It is correct that there are products "BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1" and "BusinessObjects XI Integration for SAP Solutions" at a time?
Which one do I upgrade? the Enterprise or Integration? or both?

1) First I upgrade the Integration Kit and then the Enterprise?
      First update the server and then integration kit.
2) I uninstall previously installed products?
      you need not uninstall the previous versions.
3) Where do I find a guide or procedure to do this upgrade?

How to upgrade Tomcat from 5.5 to 6.0 on BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP5

Hi,
I have recently installed BOE Enterprise XI 3.1 SP5 on SLES11.
Tomcat 5.5 has been installed as part of the Installation.
JVM 1.5 was also installed.
Now since Tomcat 5 is in End of Life support, hence it has been marked as a security risk by the scans performed.
I need to upgrade Tomcat from 5.5 to 6.0.
I am looking for relevant documentation as I couldn't find any official guide for it.
Can someone help me out here with the official documentation on tomcat upgrade.

Here are the steps to upgrade from Tomcatxx to Tomcat yy:
The below steps are for upgrading default 5.5.20 tomcat to a higher
incremental release of tomcat.
This method is not intended in an upgrade from default 5.5.20 to a major
release version such as tomcat 6 or 7.
Stop the Tomcat
Run the script ./tomcatshutdown.sh in bobje directory.
Rename bobje/Tomcat to tomcat_bak.Command: mv bobje/Tomcat
tomcat_bak
Download tomcat 5.5.xx core tgz file from Apache website to bobje/tomcat and
extract using the command: tar -xvf tgz filename
Create new folder apache-tomcat-5.5.xx.Command:mkdir apache-tomcat-5.5.xx
Rename folder apache-tomcat-5.5.xx to Tomcat55 using the move command
Go to the deployment directory which is one level above bobje.
Run the script ./wdeploy.sh tomcat55 deployall
Message:"Build Successful"
Run the script ./tomcatstartup.sh to start the Tomcat.

Now after the configuration I get some errors on starting the client.

Please clarify my following doubt,
We are migrating from BO 6.5 to BO XI 3.1 intergrating with our application.
I want to use the COM XI 3.1 SDK for the Desktop Intelligence. I did some code changes in the previous 6.5 SDK which we already used.
Say, I changed the LoginAs() method to Logon() in the C++ file.When I tried to create the .dll file using Visual Studio 6.0, I got the following error,
'Logon' is not the member of Application class.
From this message, I understood that, still Application class of BO 6.5 was used and not BO xi and some libraries were also missing.
Please correct me, if my understanding is wrong.
Where can I get the BO xi 3.1 com SDK for DESKI? When searched in SAP portal, I get only the API reference and Developer guides.

Dear Experts, can anybody help in downloading the latest version?
I tried to follow this path on services.sap.com : SAP BusinessObjects portfolio >> SBOP ENTERPRISE >> BOBJ ENTERPRISE XI 3.1
Unfortunately I'm not sure which one to download. The most relevant I see is but not sure:
BOE XI 3.1 ServicePack 2 (Server + Client) - update >> Size: 1433681 (1.4G)
BOE XI 3.1 ServicePack 2 (Client Tools) >> Size: 662577 (662 MB)
Then I see a whole lot of Fix Packs. Please help in downloading the right one.

Yes, it is very long. But it provides you valuable information on the issues, problems, and defects you are going to encounter when installing SP2. Make sure you have plenty of time to wait for the installation as it will take hours per server. And make sure you have plenty of free time to troubleshoot problems that will arise during and after the installation.

Can we have BusinessObjects 4.0 and 4.1 (tool Clients) both installed on the same machine? Why? Why not?

4.0 and 4.1 are incremental upgrades hence both on the same machine are not possible.
Though u can use 4.1 client tools to login to both 4.1 and 4.0 servers.
3.1 and 4.0/4.1 together is very much possible on the other hand.

BO XI Release 2: Could not load file or assembly 'BusinessObjects.

I am getting the following error whenever I click on Home->Public Folders in BO info view. Is it some version conflict?
I am using BO XI Release 2. Please help.
