Upgrade but what?

Hello All,
I got this error.....
"in order to continue with the upgrade, the database you are updating requires a backup
whats is this? what should i have to do?

Dear Dhaval,
If the following message appears:
u201CIn order to continue with the upgrade, the database you are upgrading requires a backup,u201D you must back up the database you want to upgrade.
You must begin the upgrade within 30 minutes of your last backup.
