  • Problems after upgrading catalog from LR4 to LR5

After upgrading a LR 4 catalog to LR5, I moved some files around between sub folders.  I then went to sync up the parent folder.  The dialog box said that I would be importing 12,000 photos and deleting 12,000 missing photos.  My folder structure for a ctalog is a parent folder named for the year and the sub folders with the date and shoot description.  I was synchronizing the parent (year) folder.  When it finished, the folder structure was correct and the photos were in their new(correct) folders.  However, all of my LR4 adjustments that had been made in LR4 were gone.  There was no history either.  It was like I was importing for the first time.
I upgraded the original catalog again and the photos were in the original locations just like the first time I upgraded.  I tried to sync an individual folder and it imported 50 new files and deleted 50 missing files.  Again the LR adjustments were gone.  Any suggestions on how to sync an upgraded catalog without losing my prior version adjustments?
    Mac OS X 10.9.2
    LR 5.3

Yes, synchronizing is not the tool you should be using in this case, when you move photos from one folder to another. The proper method is to reconnect your photos in Lightroom after you moved them via: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm. But your current catalog has lost its edit information, so this will not help on your current catalog. So ...
I hope you have a backup of the catalog file before you did the synchronization, or otherwise you will have to upgrade your LR4 catalog again. Open one of those and then reconnect as in the link.
As side advice, perhaps you might want to consider using an organizing technique that does NOT require moving phtoos/folders from here to there. You might want to consider using organizing and searching via keywords and captions and other metadata, which does not require moving photos, and does not require re-linking photos, and gives you the ability to place photos in more than one "category" (keyword), rather than with folders where a photo can be in at most one "category" (folder)

  • LR5 upgraded catalog is only giving LR4 Develop module options - help!

After a successful upgrade to LR5 from LR4 on an old catalog I'm encountering an unusual situation:
when I use the Develop module the palette options are not LR5.
Instead of Shadows, for example, my LR5 catalog is showing Recover and Fill Light from LR4.
I'm working on a MacPro tower and the catalog in question is on an external hard drive.
I've checked the upgrade status and it is definitely a LR5 upgraded catalog.
I've upgraded many catalogs over the years from LR1 to now and this is the first time I've
    seen this issue.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

You are working with images that were processed with an older version of Lightroom and process 2010. Lightroom honors those previous adjustments and retains the 2010 process. To change to the new 2012 process go to the calibration tab in the develop module and make the appropriate choice.

I'm trying to bring PSE8 catalogs in to LR4.2 but I do not see the 'upgrade catalog' command in the file pulldown as shown in the LR4 tutorials.

did you try to import the images directly from disk? Does PSE actually have a catalogue?

  • Upgrading catalog problems

    When I upgrade catalog:
    1. Collections are lost
    2. Latest (well 3-4 months) photos are missing
    What I done:
    1. copied all photos to new drive
    2. copied ctalog folder to new drive
    3. opened catalog from new location, lightroom only gives me option to upgrade
    4. I tell it to upgrade
    5. new catalog has photos only up to 3 months back and no collections are shown!
Catalog from old location shows everything fine...
Configuration: Win XP SP3, LR 2.2.523352, CR 5.2, 2GB RAM, Intel quad core processor, plenty of HDD space...

It sounds like you didn't copy the catalog that you thought you were copying and got perhaps a 3 month old backup or your old 1.4 catalog.

  • After 11g upgrade - catalog objects not showing up

    Hi,
We have recently upgraded from 10g to 11g.
Our repository is working fine, but the presentation services does not contain our objects.
I hav granted all privs to BIadministrator role and I belong to the BIAdministrators Group.
But, all of our contents are missing, dashboards, subject areas, prompts, etc.
Any idea what step I am missing here?
    Thanks,
    Kathy

Is your installation client only .? Then its a known bug, you cannot open catalog in Offline Mode client-only installation. Catalog Manager is only available with OBIEE Server Full components install on Server.
Bug 14020946 : CATALOG MANAGER DOES NOT DISPLAY OFFLINE IN OPEN CATALOG
    Few questions here:
What is your authentication system ? Is it default ?
    Are all your the Subject area permission is set to Default in repository. If that Default is set to ‘NO ACCESS’ so may want to change default setting to ‘READ’.By default all users can see the subject area if we manually give him Read access in Subject Area Permission.However, if this is set to NO ACCESS in NQSConfig.ini then change this to READ under [SECURITY] DEFAULT_PRIVILEGES = READ;
Could you also generate Permissions Report in RPD and for a few subject areas and then see if the permissions are setup right in repository for that Roles ?
Hope this helps. Pls mark if it does.
    Thanks,

  • Can't upgrade catalog from Elements 8 -thinks photos are on backup drive...

I've just bought LR3 (and upgraded to latest 3.2 release), and now I want to import all my photos from my Elements 5 collection (just over 10,000 photos - mostly RAW). All the photos are actually stored on a network share from my Windows Home Server machine, all accessible as \\home-server\photos\. Elements 5 has no problems with accessing them this way, and I can also access them fine from Lightroom, but I obviously want to retain all my keywording.
As there doesn't appear to be any way to upgrade a PSE5 catalog to LR3, I followed a recommendation I found on this forum (I think), and have downloaded a trial of PSE8. I have successfully upgraded a copy of the PSE5 catalog to PSE8 format, and then view them all in PSE8, so step one is a success. When I launched LR3, it then gave me a new option to upgrade an Elements catalog - this was a step forward. So, I took the option to upgrade the PSE8 catalog to LR, but after attempting it I see a window that says:
"Lightroom has successfully upgraded one Photoshop Elements catalog photo, but was unable to upgrade 10729 additional photos because the photos were moved to inaccessible Photoshop Elements backup drives. If you wish to manage the Photoshop Elements backup photos in Lightroom, please use Lightroom to import images from the following Photoshop Elements backup discs."
The photos are most definitely not on "backup drives". I've never backed up photos from Elements (my backups are done separately from my Home Server). Lightroom can see the relevant shares, as I've imported a few photos directly onto that share from a card reader, and have also imported some photos on there in a "leave in place", but (as they are RAWs) I don't get any keywording this way.
I'd be most grateful for any suggestions, especially as I won't be able to do anything in PSE8 when my trial runs out....

Thanks for that - that certainly agrees with my findings so far.
Do I take it you've had this confirmed by someone from Adobe then? Is it an intended limitation, or just an acknowledged bug?
I really hope it isn't an intended limitation, as it would mean that this high cost professional-targeted app (LR3) is not capable of something that the consumer level one (PSE8) does with ease. Surely it isn't that unusual to store your photos on a network drive.....
If this isn't likely to be fixed soon I guess I'll have to :
Backup (network drive based) photos and catalog
Use PSE8 to move the whole directory tree to internal hard drive
    Upgrade PSE8 catalog in LR3
Use LR3 to move the whole directory tree back to the network drive
Not ideal, but it should get the job done...
Yes, confirmed by Adobe.  It's a design limitation *of the PSE upgrader*.  You can use LR3 to store images on a network drive, you just can't store the catalog there.  I don't expect this to be fixed soon, so I'd go with the workaround if I were you.
I'm not storing my catalog on the network drive though, just my photos. Even with the catalog on an internal drive, LR3 still fails to upgrade any photos that are on a network drive.
I have though now spoken to a helpdesk chap at Adobe, and he has confirmed that Lightroom is not able to upgrade photos on a network drive. Seems like a really poor show to me, but I don't suppose I can do much about it...

  • "APPCRASH" trying to launch LR5.2 upgrade, catalog from LR3 stuck?

I recently upgraded my LR3.2 to LR5.2 and upon launching LR5, I keep receiving a "assertion fail" message with "Lightroom - Opening Catalog: DSC_3768.dng.lrcat" displayed on my desktop. Neither system will launch (3 or 5) and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both. I have searched around and am at my wits end trying to figure out a solution so that I can begin using my new LR5.2, any advice/tips are welcome and greatly appreciated! ...I have a Windows PC.

Quote ""Lightroom - Opening Catalog: DSC_3768.dng.lrcat"
You have inadvertently created a Catalog using the name of an image file namely DSC_3768.dng.  It is recognized by Lightroom as an invalid format and cannot open. Use your OS via Win Explorer or Mac Finder an go to the Lightroom sub-folder where your Catalog files are stored and double click on a previous Catalog file and Lightroom should boot with that Catalog. If this solves your problem the you can remove the offending folder  DSC_3768.dng.lrcat"

  • LR 4 upgrade  catalog issues...

Just installed LR4 upgrade. It created a new catalog named Lightroom Catalog-2.ircat. The previous catalog was Lightroom Catalog.ircat. Should I use the old catalog? What does recommend?

    Just as a further explanation:
"Lightroom Catalog.lrcat" now is your original LR3 catalog
"Lightroom Catalog-2.lrcat" now is your upgraded LR4 catalog
When you feel comfortable with LR4, you could delete (or move/archive) your LR3 catalog and rename the LR4 catalog to "Lightroom Catalog.lrcat", along with renaming the folder "Lightroom Catalog-2 Previews.lrdata" to "Lightroom Catalog Previews.lrdata".
Please not that the extenstions are *.lrcat and *.lrdata (as in LRCAT and LRDATA, and not as in IRCAT and IRDATA).

  • How to upgrade RMAN catalog from 10.2.0.4 to 11?

Hi, we are on Oracle 10.2.0.4, Solaris 5.10. Our RMAN catalog is 10.2.0.4 version and we have several 11g databases that need to connect to the catalog and obviously cannot. So we need to upgrade the catalog to 11. Does anyone have any docs on how to do it. Do I need to upgrade RMAN database to 11 via conventional upgrade and then do UPGRADE CATALOG? Really confusing, any help would be very appreciated.
    Thank you!

    You need to:
1 - upgrade the recovery catalog database
2 - upgrade the recovery catalog Schema
Please check the details on note *452529.1 Recovery catalog for RMAN backup*.
Normally newer databases (target) can be cataloged on previous version catalog database, but with 11g there is the bug 6756872 (RMAN REGISTER OF 11G TARGET INTO 10G CATALOG FAILS WITH ORA-04028) which force you to upgrade the catalog.
You can also review RMAN Compatibility Matrix (Note 73431.1) which has all valid version combinations.
If your scenario is simple enough, another option could be create a new 11g RMAN catalog and register there your databases, without importing data from the 10.2 catalog.
    Regards.

  • Upgraded LR1 - LR3 Catalog: blank Grid, non functioning app

I've been dealing with support on this, but they're utterly useless, taking days to get back to me and spinning me over troubleshooting 101 stuff.
    Problem:
Upgraded a perfectly working LR1 catalog to LR3.  No issues during upgrade.
Upon trying to use the LR3, the first thousand or so of my photos show up in Grid, but everything after that is blank. By that I mean, a grid cell is drawn, but LR3 doesn't display a thumbnail, or any cell extras or metadata.
Clicking on one of these empty cells gives me a thumbnail frame and some metadata (slowwwwly).
Going to Loupe View on a non-empty cell gives me a "Loading..." spinner and an unrendered thumbnail preview (CPU is not ramping up at all)
Going to Loupe View on an empty cell just gives me a blank screen (CPU is not ramping up at all)
Develop module does load the picture, but slowly.
When I quit, the app freezes up completely, with beachball.  Must force-quit (after giving it 20 minutes in case it was actually trying to do something)
Initially, when I load LR3, my CPU runs high, 75%, like it's working on something.  Then it just cuts out as if it's given up.
Console output when this happens is the following:
    6/17/10 7:27:38 PM Adobe Lightroom 3[518] ServerProcess [AsyncDataServer( Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat )] ERRORSERVER<AsyncDataServer( Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat )>: A command threw an exception.
6/17/10 7:27:38 PM Adobe Lightroom 3[518] ServerProcess [AsyncDataServer( Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat )] ERROR Error: ?:0: attempt to perform arithmetic on field '?' (a nil value)
6/17/10 7:27:38 PM Adobe Lightroom 3[518] Error initializing alternate universe. bad argument #1 to 'pairs' (table expected, got nil)
    System:
    MacBook Pro Core2Duo 2.1Ghz 3GB RAM, 500GB Drive.
Initially Mac OS 10.5.8, but I tried upgrading to 10.6.3 and 10.6.4 (no luck).
    Library: 21,000 photos
    Other things I've tried:
Trashing all LR3 prefs, caches (running YASU), LR preview caches, plists, extensions, reinstalling, restarting -- no luck
Noticed it was copying the LR1 prefs plist, so I archived that.  LR3 generated a new pref, but no help
Downloaded LR2 Demo, upgraded LR1 Catalog to LR2 Catalog (which works perfectly, no issues), and then LR2 Cat -> LR3 -- no luck
Checking integrity of Catalog in LR1 and LR2 (no problems) and LR3 when upgrading (no problems)
LR3 runs fine on an empty catalog and if I point it at my photo folder and import everything, it's ok (with none of my 3 years of modifications of course).
Is my only option to write out LR1 data to sidecar files and then setup a new Catalog in LR3?

Well, on top of having full access to the photo files, LR obviously has proper permissions to affect the files it generates in the AppSupport>Adobe>Lightroom folder, the Caches>Lightroom folder, the Pictures>Lightroom folder and the Preferences> folder, otherwise it wouldn't be able to build a new catalog, new prefs, new caches and so forth when I generate a new empty catalog.
I really doubt this is a permissions voodoo issue or a monitor profile issue.
LR3 works fine with a brand new catalog (and all the same Photo files).
LR1 and LR2 have absolutely no problem with my catalog and photo files.
LR2 upgrades my LR1 Catalog without issue.
LR3 fails with my upgraded catalog (and all the same photo files)
Unless I'm missing something in my logic tree here, it seems to me this is obviously a problem with LR3 upgrading my Catalog.
Other people's catalogs upgrade fine, and that's dandy, but my catalog doesn't upgrade AND it fails with exactly the same error message every time in the Console (See original post), which seem to be related to some internal db issue, dividing by zero, nil values.
Something ain't being handled right by LR3 that previous versions of LR had no problem with.

  • Upgrading rman 9i catalog to 10g catalog.

    Hi,
I need to know the typical steps to upgrade the rman catalog from 9i to oracle oracle 10g. We have already 9i db's registered with 9i catalog and 10g db's are there which we will register with the upgraded 10g catalog.
Kindly provide links and also summarise here the typical steps involved.
Thanks in advance for all the help !!

Depends. If you want to do an in-place upgrade, then upgrade the database to at least the highest 10g database that will be connecting. For example, if the highest 10g version you have is 10.2.0.1, then go to at least 10.2.0.1. I have been running 10.2.0.3 without any issues.
After upgrading the database, login to the rman catalog using the same ORACLE_HOME as the database, and run:
    upgrade catalog;
That's it. No bells, no whistles. The docs are very clear on this and it's not a huge ordeal.
Or, you can export/import to a new database, and run 'upgrade catalog' on it.
