Upgrade--caught in a loop

Just tried to do a full system upgrade.
First, it prompts for permission to replace about 10 things.  I say OK
Next, it says that "kdelibs needs phonon"
I attempt to install phonon.  Now it says that phonon conflicts with qt--OK to remove qt?
I say yes, and it tells me about 10 things that depend on qt!!!
At this point, I go back and try saying NO to the initial list.  This makes no difference.
Is there anyway out of this other than manually installing or removing everything that it squawks about?  NOTE:  My impression is that this kind of thing is a relatively recent issue with Arch--ie just in the last 2 years.
I first ran "pacman Syy" and my mirrors have been set up using "rankmirrors"

That did it!!
It's not obvious to me how the system would get in such a state---also, my 64-bit system had no such issue.
Regardless--Thank You!!

  • I clicked on Firefox's "save password" on a blogsite, now I can't "comment" on that site, I'm caught in a loop, keep getting logged out of that site when I try to comment, but not a problem when I try Explorer.

When I navigate to the page to view comments and leave a comment myself, the comments appear but the link to leave a comment is missing, and my username and password is pre-populated in those fields (presumable by the Firefox "save password" program)on that "comment" page. When I click "submit" to log in again, I am logged in but redirected back to the front page. When I click on the page that allows me to leave a comment, I get kicked out again. I'm caught in a loop.
I do not have this problem when I exit Firefox and open Internet Explorer and go to that blog site, although the username and password fields are automatically populated when I type the first digit of my username, probably because Firefox is still operating in the background on my computer.
I tried clearing two hours of recent history, as that was the timeline when I clicked on "Save Password" from the pop up box, but it didn't help.

  • Hello. I have updated my iphone 4 to ios7 after doing a backup to itunes. I am caught in a loop of being asked to 'restore from backup' as part of setup and that restore failing because the phone already has it's content I believe. Please help if you can.

Hi. I have an iphone 4 that I have just installed ios7 onto. I had backed up the phone prior.
After the software install the phone rebooted and showed the 'Hello' setup. I am stuck because as part of the setup it asks me to 'restore from backup via itunes". I dont understand why i need to do this as I thought the ios7 install procedure would restore the phone with it's content.
I tried to restore from backup but it says I cant because there is not enough space on the phone. If I connect the phone to itunes, it shows that the phone has all my content, especially since iphoto launches and I can see all the photos it wants to download to iphoto off the phone.
I am caught in a loop. My phone has it's content, but the startup procedure on the phone will not let me progress until I have restored from backup via itunes. But it cant because the phone has no space!!
The only other option it gives is 'Set up as new phone".
    Can anyone help please. Thanks.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

    Hello Albini11,
It may help to sign out of the iTunes Store, then sign back in.
In iTunes, choose Store > Sign In (or Sign Out).
Sign in or out of the iTunes Store

  • Before I dispose of my imac caught in password loop

Before I dipose of my imac I'm trying to uninstall 10.4 to erase my data (I have the install disk in the computer) but I'm caught in password loop. I am hoping that when I restart while pressing the "C" key that I will be offered an option to uninstall but instead I am asking to enter my password. When I enter it the computer restarts and takes me straight back to the password prompt again. I hope that someone can help!

You may have a firmware password.  The prevents booting from a cd.
Maybe your are getting the firmware password?  Do you see this image?

  • When Syncing top of screen freezes and gets caught in a loop

I have a PowerBook G4. I just installed the new Leopard. Ran all the available updates and so far there are a few bugs that I can't fix. I need some help please.
    1. When syncing to mobileMe, the computer gets caught in a loop and the round arrows at the top right of the screen never stops spinning. Also, when you bring the pointer to the top of the page, it seems frozen and the wheel starts. The time has also frozen.
    2. When syncing to iTunes with my iPhone, it also gets stuck in a loop.
I'm assuming that there is something going on with MobileMe or with syncing. I can't find anything on this. Can anyone shed some light.

Would like to add one more thing. When I try to repair permissions it also goes in a loop and never repairs anything. I'm stumped on this.

  • Notebook caught in infinite loop, then gives a Hard Drive Short DST check error in Bios

My laptop shut off unexpectedly last week. It got caught in an infinite loop when trying to restart. I was able to access bios and run a system check. I received Failure ID Q0821A-7017lt-xd7wwk-60xx03. I cannot get the computer to start. Please advise.

    1. This is a hardware issue and the Hard Drive is faulty
    2. You cannot recover this failure ID unless you replace the Hard drive
    Detailed Explanation:
Whenever you get a message stating that the Short DST Check error with 24 Digit Failure ID "Q0821A-7017LT-XD7WWK-60XX03" that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive requires a replacement to resolve the issue
Could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc..
HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby
Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive
Please try the below shown troubleshooting steps once:
Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the AC/Power Adapter
Step 02. Press and hold the Power button for more than 30 Seconds
Step 03. Plug in the AC/Power Adapter (leave the Battery out for now)
Step 04. Press the Power button and check if the Unit works normal
If the above mentioned steps does not help, then you can try reseating the Hard Drive on your Notebook
If the issue persists again please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)
Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files.

  • Ipad3 - trying to upgrade to ios7 - can't upgrade - in a recovery loop

    Hi,
I have iPad 3 that I was trying to upgrade to iOS 7. In the midst of upgrading iPad3 to iOS7, iOS7 upgrade encountered unknown error and aborted the upgrade. Now my iPad3 is in recovery mode loop. Every time, it asks me to recover but it fails with "iPad can't be restored. Unknown error have occurred (3004).". So, I'm in this recovery mode loop. I tried to reset it with pushing home-sleep/wake button for 10 sec with no luck.
Funny thing is that I was able to do the upgrade my iPhone 4S to iOS7 earlier without any issues using same iTune and computer.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hi,
i have exactly the same issue - I've tried holding home and power to go into recovery mode, but it is slightly different in that it fails with a 4007 or 11 fault code.
Can anyone help with this as I currently have an expensive door wedge!
    Thanks in advance

    That should do it.

  • My Leopard install DVD is getting caught in a loop

I'm having a problem with my Leopard install DVD. I'm running Leopard 10.5.7, and I wanted to use Disk Utility, so I inserted the intall DVD, double clicked the icon, and pressed enter to restart using the disk.
What happened next was the computer restarted, gave me the chime, went to a gray screen with no apple logo or spinning gear, then restarted and looped this same sequence repeatedly. I've checked the surface of the install DVD and it seems undamaged, so my only conclusion is that something software related is happening. Anyone else run into this?
The install DVD is version 10.5.1.

Okay, so I used Disk Utility on the internal drive to verify and then repair permissions (long list). Then I attempted to verify the disk and got a message saying Disk First Aid Failed and the following info in the history: Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Performing live verification.
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Checking multi-linked files.
    Checking Catalog hierarchy.
    Checking Extended Attributes file.
    Checking volume bitmap.
    Checking volume information.
    Invalid volume file count
(It should be 956726 instead of 956732)
    Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 233009 instead of 233003)
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
After that, I put the install disk in and restarted holding the shift key. Got the gray screen for a long time (DVD seemed to be doing something), and then the computer restarted. This time I held down the option key, got the Startup Manager and selected the install disk. And away we went with the gray screen loop again. I let it try to restart from the install disk 6 times before holding down the eject button and ejecting the install disk which allowed the 'puter to boot from from the internal drive.
    And that's where I stand.
