Upgrade Coldfusion 8 Multiserver to Coldfusion 9 Multiserver

So I am working on a new web environment that we are planning to rollout in January and I have all of the servers setup, configured and ready to go.  They are running CF 8 multiserver and everything runs pretty great right now.  Now that coldfusion 9 is out management wants to go live with the new web environment on CF 9 so as not to start off behind a version.
Platform:
Solaris 10 (64 bit) : Apache 2.2.10 (64 bit) : Cf 8.0.1
My question then is is there anyway to just upgrade 8 to 9 or do I have to jump through all of the archive, uninstall, reinstall and restore hoops?  Is there an easy method for upgrading the multiserver install?
The oh so incredible documentation alludes to the possibility of upgrading.
"The ColdFusion installation process supports the following scenarios:
New installation     Install ColdFusion on a computer with no earlier ColdFusion installation.
Upgrade installation
You can upgrade from ColdFusion MX 7 and ColdFusion 8. When upgrading, the installer preserves the existing settings and installs in a new directory, automatically assigning ports that do not conflict with the existing installation."
I have to assume that this "upgrade" is only possible for single server installs since the multiserver option is grayed out when you run the installer.
I thought that I would post something here before I went full bore into trying to do it with the archive restore method (which I am hoping will work.)
Thanks in advance for any input.

CFFTP putFile timeouts after upgrading from ColdFusion 8 to ColdFusion 9.01
Important thing to mention is that Coldfusion 9.01 is 32bit and is installed on Windows Server 2008 which is 64 bit off course.
When I try on ColdFusion 9.01 32 bit version that is installed on xp 32 bit everithing works fine.
Any Idea how this can be fixed ?

  • Convert Coldfusion 8 standalone to multiserver

    Hi,
I have one coldfusion 8 running on RHEL 4 with apache as my web server, now there is requirement to enable multiserver feature. Can somebody help me with step by step process to do the same.
    thanks in advance

I am little bit confused here, as of now what i understood is as below:
If coldfusion running in single server mode then first backup all the things and uninstall it.
Run a fresh installation with multiserver configuration and configure multiple instance as required.
Restore the backup in one of the instance and update it accordingly.
    Test it and go live.
The other way: get ready a second server with CF8 multiserver configuration and restore the backup from single to the multiserver one.Test it and go live.

    Rahul

  • How can I hide the version of ColdFusion showing in COldFusion Administrator

How can I hide the version of coldfusion being shown from the coldfusion administrator login page? Right now I have the Version: 6,1,0,83762 showing.

    For security reasons.
If there are known vulnerabilities with a specific version of a software release, you don't want to have someone who is scanning to be able to pull that information and then be able to try known attacks that will increase their chances of compromising your site/application.

  • Coldfusion 10 or Coldfusion X release Date

I am planning for next year what kind of projects we will be doing.  I was looking for information on the next version of coldfusion.  I did read some of the blog discussions  In Feb and march about Coldfusion being moved completely to India. Could someone from Adobe update the community on their plan's timelines.
It is interesting how quite that things are.
So Adobe start getting us excited about the next version.  Let some features leak out.  Put it up in labs. Start giving us material that we can  start invisioning the new great things we are going to develop with it.  Let us know that you are still working on it and that you have amassed a huge team of talented people that are at this point working hard at the next biggest thing.
Just because the marketing and management people are now in India doesn't mean they should forget the main audience.
    CF Rocks!!!
Now lets hear it from you.

Once CF 10 gets to the public beta stage, then you'll see official things from Adobe about it.  Until then, how could they possibly have anything 'officially' going on in a public sense - that's pretty much the definition of a public beta?  As Dave and others have said, if you do some Googling you'll find quite a bit of good stuff.  Anyone associated with the alpha and non-public beta programs is under NDA and so cannot comment on the accuracy of those postings, but I think if you look at the people behind them you'll see that they are well-respected members of the CF community, and aren't the types to just make up stuff.  You will also find a couple of sessions from Max that went into quite a bit of detail, including demos, and were done by Adobe CF engineers and product managers, and so you should be able to place a lot of value on those, even though they have the caveats that what they are showing in the previews could change (or disappear altogether) in the final release.  The one thing you won't see them answering are questions about the release schedule, at least not until they get into the public beta stage.  That's how these things work.
Since I already have this info in a file that I used at our local user group meeting in October, I'll save you some searching and share it with you since it is all public info anyway:

  • What is the difference between Coldfusion 9 and Coldfusion Builder?

    in plain english

ColdFusion 9 is a web application server. It gets installed on the same machine as a web server, typically, and will generate output when someone requests a URL that corresponds to a CF script in their browser. ColdFusion 9 is necessary to run CF programs.
ColdFusion Builder is a development environment for ColdFusion programmers. It allows programmers to write and debug the scripts you put on a CF server. While it's very helpful, it's not required to write CF programs. It also doesn't run CF programs - you need ColdFusion for that.

  • ColdFusion + JRE Upgrade = Verity Error?

There's a documented ClassLoader bug in Java 6, which was fixed in update 10. I'm attempting to upgrade the JRE in ColdFusion 8 from 1.6u3 to 1.6u18, and everything seems to be working fine -- with the exception of Verity. Accessing "Verity Collections" through the CF admin or a page containing verity cf tags results in a "Could not initialize class com.verity.security.k2.K2Encrypt" error.
It seems like there was a similar issue with CF 7 when upgrading the JRE. Is there something in the verity.jar that is very version specific, and has anybody found a workaround for this?
    Thanks,
    Dean

Bit more information, this happened after installing the developer addition and entering our standard licence. As soon as the administrator confirms the licence and updates the "verity K2 server" links disappears from the vertical menu!
I have checked the comparison chart from adobe and standard does have verity.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Issue modeling data from Coldfusion cfc

Problem:  Configure return type in  Flash Builder  (using with Coldfusion) Mysql 5 driver (testing using localhost with CF also acting as the web server)
I have tried going thru the steps presented in the video presentations for hooking Flash Builder to Coldfusion query data.  I provide a name for a Custom data type, provide variables (that are optionally required by the CFC), and then proceed.  The operation comes back with the following message.
The operation returned a response of the type "Object"
You may either update server code to fix the return data or CLICK OK to set "Objecdt" as the returntype of this operation
In all of the videos I have watched, Flash Builder auto-magically introspected the table that was being called and knew the data types of  each piece of the data returned by the  query. In my case, I get the above message and cannot proceed.
    CFM Testing
I have tested the query by calling the CFC method via a coldfusion page and dumping the result.  Everything is works with that.

I would like to get past the problem and learn what if anything I am doing wrong with this.  Your input is appreciated.  I have been learning CF and am getting pretty comfortable with that product. I would like to move forward with Flash Builder. I have some basic knowledge of Flex 3.

    Enable Flash Remoting support
Lets a Flash client connect to this ColdFusion server and invoke ColdFusion Components (CFCs).                NOTE: Disabling this feature also disables ColdFusion server monitoring and multiserver monitoring.
Enable Remote Adobe LiveCycle Data Management access
Lets LiveCycle Data Services ES connect to this ColdFusion server through RMI                and use CFCs to read and update data that supports a                Flex application. If you are not using this feature, disable it.                This does not affect LiveCycle Data Services ES integrated in to the ColdFusion installation.
    Server Identity:
If you are running more than one instance of ColdFusion on this machine, you must           configure each instance with a unique ID.
Enable RMI over SSL for Data Management
Lets you use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption for the RMI communication between Flex and ColdFusion.                This is not required unless you are transmitting authentication information or confidential                data between Flex and ColdFusion over an unsecured network. You must provide a keystore file and keystore password.                For instructions on how to create a keystore file, see the online Help.
    Full path to keystore:
    Keystore password:
Select IP addresses where LiveCycle Data Services are running
To secure the LiveCycle Data Services ES integration point, the hosts that are allowed to perform Data Management operations are restricted. If you are running LiveCycle Data Services ES on a different computer, specify its IP address here. By default, only the local computer can perform Data Management operations in ColdFusion.

    Sunil,
I have found the problem. When initialy given the arguments list to fill in "Configure Return Type", I filled in a string argument as "E".  This gives a return of object.  To accurately use the Configure Return Type, I needed to just fill in a string as E.
See the Screen Prints on the error
I have tested the following functionality and it appears to work ok
    1.  I have tested with no parms to the CFC query method
    2. I have tested  using Dynamic SQL based on variables set before the query in a  CFC method
    3. I have tested passing one string argument in from Flash Builder  to a CFC method
    4. I have tested passing a string and boolean argument From Flash Builder to a CFC method
For 3 and 4, I had make some slight changes o set the arguments that were being sent to CFC in Flash Builder before the call
    It all worked.

  • Problems Installing ColdFusion 9 (64 bit) on Windows 7 and IIS 7.5

Problem:  Empty response for static Files including images, CSS and js files. The response code is 200 OK, but there is no actual response (it's empty).
The ColdFusion Administration web site works correctly except it's not displaying any images, css and js. Why it is serving up dynamic content and not static is a mystery.
Installed ColdFusion 9 (64 bit) Multiserver Option on Windows 7 running IIS 7.5.
I have verified that IIS 7.5 is correctly configured for Static Content for both the handler mappings and the modules.
The Configuration for IIS 7.5 install looks like this:
The ColdFusion web configuration tools shows that it is connected to all instances of IIS.
I have uninstalled ColdFusion9 and IIS 7.5, and reinstalled many times but get the same problem: Empty responses for Static Files.
    Help is appreciated.

To Clarify the blurry picture, this is what the IIS 7.5 install options look like:
Web Mgmt Tools > II6 Mgmt Compatility > IIS Metabase  & II6 Compatability
WWW Services > Application Dev Features > .Net Extensibility and ASP.Net and CGI and ISAPI Extensions & ISAPI Filters
Common HTTP Features > Default Document and Directory Browsing and HTTP Errors and Static Content

  • Installation of ColdFusion

During the installation of Coldfusion on my system, it gives
me the following install options that I must select from. Please
advise as to which selection I should make:
    1. Server Configuration
Install ColdFusion MX 7 as a self-contained server. Similar
    to earlier versions of ColdFusion.
    2. Multiserver Configuation
Install ColdFusion MX 7 on JRun 4 with integrated support for
clustering and for creating multiple ColdFusion server instances on
    a single computer.
    3. J2EE Configuation
Package ColdFusion MX 7 as a J2EE application. Lets you
deploy ColdFusion MX on an existing J2EE server. For a list of
supported servers and deployment instructions, see "Installing and
    Using ColdFusion MX".

If you are just installing a basic server setup (no
clustering etc) then the majority use #1.

  • FDS Could not find the Coldfusion Component

    I am currently running CFMX 7.0.2 (w/ a multiserver
configuration using IIS) and FDS 2.0 w/ JRun4, using Flex Builder
2.0.1 Standalone as my Flex IDE.
I am able to do remoting without a problem, and I am also
able to run the FDS CRM sample, which uses Java. But when I try to
use FDS + CF, it tells me "Could not find the Coldfusion Component
    samples.contact.ContactAssembler".
I have been following the Contact Manager example, originally
posted by Tom Jordahl and later corrected by Steven Erat.
    http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/index.cfm/2006/12/20/FDS-CFMX702-ContactManagerApp
I am pretty sure that I have done everything correclty:
    - I have all the mxml files placed in the
    E:\jrun4\servers\default\samples\dataservice drectory, and have
modified the DataService destination to point to "cfcontact", not
    "cfcontact-default".
    - I have added the destination element from
    E:\resources\config\data-management-config.xml to
    E:\fds2\jrun4\servers\default\samples\WEB-INF\flex\data-management-config.xml
    - I have added
    <adapter-definition id="coldfusion-dao"
    class="coldfusion.flex.CFDataServicesAdapter"/>
    to
    E:\fds2\jrun4\servers\default\samples\WEB-INF\services-config.xml
    - I have unzipped the CF files into my CF root
(<CFroot>/samples/contact/) and the access file into
    <CFroot>/samples/contact/db/. I also tested the CFC's to
makes sure they worked properly on their own
    - I have made a datasource called FlexDataServices pointing
to the access file, and made sure it works correctly
    - I have started the FDS server with no errors
But when I run the app from
    http://localhost:8700/samples/dataservice/contact/contactmgr.mxml,
it gives me that error: "Could not find the Coldfusion Component
    samples.contact.ContactAssembler".
So i know FDS works with Java, its CF that is giving me the
problem. Could it have something to do with the fact that I am
using IIS for CF and JRun4 for FDS (even though I dont think so
since the calls to the cfc's are not http, or so think)
Any help would be greatly appreciated...i have been trying to
get this to work for a couple of days and would love to move on.
    Thank you.

In the services-config.xml, make sure your endpoint uri for
the cf-polling-amf destination points to your ColdFusion server.
    You may need to replace the {server.port} and/or {context.root}
    with the actual values.
For example, if you ColdFusion Server is running on port 8500
your setting might look like this:
    <endpoint uri="
    http://{server.name}:8500/{context.root}/messagebroker/cfamfpolling"
    class="flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint"/>
