Upgrade companion cd 10gR2

Hi I wanna install a new version of Php 5.2.6 into my installation of http server made with companion cd on a windows server...(it's not mine...)
I encounter some problem cause i don't know how to load new .dll module and to modify in the correct way httpd.conf file.
Let me know if Oracle as an upgrade of companion installation with new apache and new php or a guide line to install php by myself.
Many thanks.
Giorgio

Many thanks for your suggestion...
My situation is a bit different from those descript in OTN guide.
I have a Oracle 10gR2 database enterprise edition, an http server installed by Oracle companion cd because i need dads.conf file to manage my apex connection, a php installation always made by Oracle companion cd that i have to upgrade.
I see 2 solution:
- upgrade my php version to 5 maintaining oracle http server installation for correctly run Oracle apex.
- load mod_plsq dll in the apache2 normal version and php 5,but i need a guide to load dll in correct way also installing a correct Oracle dads.conf to manage my apex application.
Many thanks in advance.

  • 10g Upgrade Companion - Feedback

What's the feedback on this document. Note:466181.1
The Oracle Upgrade Companion helps you upgrade your Oracle Database from Oracle9i Release 2 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2). The guide is not an automated tool but rather provides guidance for pre-upgrade, upgrade, and post-upgrade steps.

    How're you doing Chris?
I assume you want honest feedback so here's a bit.
    Source:
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/docs/Upgrade_Companion.html
The modifications section has no context. What is it intended to do? Shouldn't it be hotlinked to the information to which it refers?
Looking at the "Prepare" section the first bold heading is "Execute the Pre-Upgrade
Tool" but the steps being taken are to DOWNgrade ... not UPgrade. What is happening here, or intended to happen, is unclear.
    Under the heading:
"Recommendations to Avoid Common Pitfalls" number 8 reads:
"Disable all DBMS_JOBS, Batch, AT, and Cron Jobs before starting the upgrade."
What is AT? Should that be AQ? If not AT needs some explanatory text as I have no idea what it is.
Otherwise a very good doc and a good addition to the online docs at metalink.
The one thing I would really like to see in addition to it's existing content is guidance for those whose 9.2 database is supporting E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel, etc. Much of what is published, both on and off metalink, for apps users is confusing or wrong.
    Great job!

  • FORM NOT RESPONDING AFTER UPGRADING TO ORACLE 10GR2 DATABASE

    Hi All
We are upgrading from Oracle 9i (single AIX Server) to Oracle 10gR2 on HACMP of 2 AIX 5.3 Server.
Our application is in Forms 9.0.4 deployed into iAS 10.1.2.0.2.
There is a custom Login Form that checks for UserID and Password and validate
    to Authentication Table.
This form works fine in Oracle 9i but doesn't work in Oracle 10g (After
    Upgrading).
On the Login Form, this happen :
After user enter UserID the forms query the DB and display UserName succesfully,
but after enter Password and press OK, it does not responding,
    takes forever to complete..
    Additional information :
    Before :          After :
    Oracle 9i          Oracle 10gR2
SIngle AIX Server     Two AIX Server in HACMP
    Charset : AL16UTF16     WE8ISO....
Given the information above, What could possibly cause this problem ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto.

    xtanto,
not sure what causes the problem, but my suggestion is to check the password query.
To give you another hint: Your way of authenticating users is not hack safe. As you describe that providing a user ID will show the name first before I have to provide the password, it allows me to fish for valid user accounts. The recommended way of using login screens is to have the user enetring userid and password in teh same screen and use both information to authenticate the user in a single query.

  • Upgraded Db from 10gR2 to 11gR2 want to know how can we make use of mem_target & mem_max_size parameter

    Hi Guys,
Wish u all a very happy new year.
We have upgraded our Client UAT system on solaris 10 from 10gR2(10.2.0.4) to 11.2.0.3 with latest PSU patch 11.2.0.3.8 Solaris SPark 64 bit.
Post DB upgrade new parameters have been incorporated into the system namely
    1. Memory_Target
    2. Memory_Max_Size.
Now although we have our SGA and PGA set to some specific values in our system, what i want to know is how can we utilize the Two parameters i named above in the system and
how can it provide me better performance in relationship with SGA and PGA set in the system.
Probably on what concept does Memory_Target and Memory_max_size parameters work in 11gR2 system.
It would be really great if some one can provide the details with explanation.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Milan Rathod.

    Hi,
Automatic Memory Management(AMM) was introduced in ORACLE 11g to automate the size of SGA and PGA(takes full control of managing memory)
To configure AMM ,need to initialize MEMORY_TARGET and MEMORY_MAX_TARGET parameters.
    MEMORY_TARGET:
The amount of shared memory available for Oracle to use when dynamically controlling the SGA and PGA.
This parameter is dynamic, so the total amount of memory available to Oracle can be increased or decreased, provided it does not exceed the MEMORY_MAX_TARGET limit. The default value is "0".
    MEMORY_MAX_TARGET:
This defines the maximum size the MEMORY_TARGET can be increased to without an instance restart.
If the MEMORY_MAX_TARGET is not specified, it defaults to MEMORY_TARGET setting.
Let say If you are setting MEMORY_MAX_TARGET=2GB, then oracle will use these 2GB to manage the memory(Boh SGA and PGA)
If you set db_cache_size=1GB based on your requirement , then AMM always retains this 1GB memory for db_cache_size and it will use the remainng 1GB memory for other processes.

  • Upgrade to Oracle 10gR2 from 8i

Hello, i'm going to install Oracle 10gR2 on Sun Solaris SPARC64 and i have to migrate user schema and related application software in Pro*C language.
Which are the issues to consider in order to avoid compilation errors and/or run time errors.
    Thanks for your help.

Direct upgrade to 10g is possible from the latest 8i version (8.1.7.4). In case you are below this patch level, first you must upgrade to this and then upgrade to 10g.
In case 32 bit conversions are involved, you must consider the utlip.sql script which must be run during the upgrade phase.
I suggest you to read Metalink Note 316889.1 where a Complete checklist for manual upgrades to 10gR2 is detailed.

  • Rolling Upgrade of Oracle 10gR2 RAC with Physical Standby (DG)

    Hi DBAs,
I want to do a rolling upgrade of Oracle 10.2.0.3 (2 node RAC+ASM) with Physical Standy Dataguard to Oracle 10.2.0.4 also applying CPU (April2009).
Please suggest the best way to perform this upgrade and patching with no downtime.
    Thanks
    -Samar-

Unfortunately rolling upgrade is only possible with a logical standby in place:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/upgrades.htm#CHDBJAGG
That doesn't help you at this time, but 11g has a way to do it with a physical standby. Even here you need an intermediate logical standby:

  • Excessive Redo Generation After Upgrading on Oracle 10gR2

We had our production database hosted on Oracle 9.2.0. Few months back we have migrated it to Oracle 10.2.0.4.0.
After Migration I have noticed that redo generation has become very very high. In earlier case no. of log files generating in production hours were around 20 where as after migration it become around 200 files per day. I have run statspack report on this database. Statspack report is also saying that log file switch wait is become very high. Parameter timed_statistics has also been set to FALSE. Workload on the database is same before & after upgrade. Queries running in the sessions are also same before & after upgrade. All the parameters & memory structures are same after upgrade. Satatpack report is saying that db block change & disk write is become very high. I had used import export for upgrading the databases. Please provide a solution for this problem.
Thanks In advance for all your favours....

  • Upgrade 9i to 10gR2 HPUX 11.11 64

    Hi friends
    1. Id like to know if I need to run post step Of PSU 10.2.0.5.3 after upgrade to 10g.
For records I installed in a new home 10.2.0.1 as base and patch set 10.2.0.5.
    2. Now before upgrade do I need to install PSU (10.2.0.5.3)? or can i do it after upgrade and go for post step of psu?

    Hi, friend
Certenly The latest available PSU is 10.2.0.5.4 - Patch 12419392 thanks for that.
Now on this document I can read on chapter 3
Install the Latest Available Patch Set Release and Any Required Patches
Once you have installed the major Oracle Database 10g software, check to see if there is a patch set release and/or critical patch update to be installed:
    •Patch sets
Patch sets are a software-release mechanism for delivering tested and integrated product fixes on a regular basis. Patch sets provide bug fixes only; they do not include new functionality, and do not require certification on the target system.
    •Critical Patch Updates
Critical patch updates contain security patch updates and security fixes. As of 2005, Oracle began providing Critical Patch Updates for all product offerings on a quarterly schedule. The comprehensive patches address significant security vulnerabilities and include fixes that are likely to be applied, or that are prerequisites for the security fixes.
The latest patch set release and critical patch update for Oracle Database 10g Release 2 should be installed prior to upgrading your databases. Refer to the specific patch release and critical patch update documentation for installation information.
So i was wondering if that's correct
Install on new Oracle Home the Base 10.2.0.1
    Install Patch Set 10.2.0.0.5 runInstaller
Install PSU (10.2.0.5.4) using Opatch Tool
and finally upgrade it using @catupgr.sql
after that do i need run @catbundle.sql psu apply
    Best regards.

  • Upgrading checklist for 10gr2

    Hi all,
I am preparing for a upgrade project Oracle database from version 9i (standalone instance with non-ASM) to 10g R2 (using RAC and ASM). The platform is moved from x86 server to IBM Power server.
I need typical checklists for this upgrade to follow, and upgrading is easier. So, would you like provide some typical checklists which can be applied in this case?

  • Downtime required to upgrade database

    Hi,
I am planning to upgrade database from Oracle8.1.7.4--> Oracle10gRel2.
I am having database of 400GB.
I just wanted to know how much down time required to
    1. Cold Backup
    2. Recover Database
    3. Manually Upgrade
    My Server configuration is
    rp7140 / 12GB RAM/HP UX
Please reply me as early as possible
    Thanks
    Chetan

    Hi,
first of all please take a COMPLETE ONLINE Backup. Even if some ML Notes state OFFLINE Backup a complete and valid online backup is enough. Either use RMAN or do it manually.
The time it'll take to upgrade your database depends mainly:
==> the number of objects needing upgrading and recompilation
========> Thus: the number of installed options/components
==> The number of synonyms – they‘ll get recompiled - just applicable if you have a high number of synonyms
==> Valid and non-stale data dictionary statistics
==> At a very low rate if you change compatible:
    =====> Number of datafiles
    =====> Size of redo logs
This means: the less components/options you have the faster it'll complete. Recompilations is not an issue anymore is it will be done in parallel.
Make sure you install the companion CD (DATABASE PRODUCTS) anyways in your new home and have a look into the "Upgrade Companion for 10gR2" on Metalink as well.
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • Migration Replication Environment (8i- 10g)

    Dear all
In my corporation we have a Environment Replication with 1 MasterSite and 20 SnapShotSites. All DataBases in this environments are version Oracle 8i, and we want to migrate it from 8.1.7 to 10.2.x. To decrease de cost of service we want to migrate only the MastarSite to 10g and leave the SnapShotSites in 8i.
The metalink note 207303.1 tell us about Interoperabylity Support Between Differentes Oracle Versions. In there, we realized that client 8.1.7 with server 10.2 "was a supported combination but one of the releases is no longer covered by..." and "This includes support for connection over databases links between Oracle Versions"
Although this metalink note, we made tests in develpment environment and the replication (8i->10g) worked successfully. We are afraid to implement this solution no covered by Oracle Support in production environment. Is there a tecnical problem to implementation that ?

    Hi Marcus,
just ensure that your clients or snapshot sites are 8.1.7.4 - but you are right: do to the fact that 8.1.7 is not under Error Correction Support anymore this combination will not be supported - but it'll work also for database links but on your own risk.
Please make sure to have a look into the upgrade companion for 10gR2 before you upgrade: ML-Note: 466181.1
    Kind regards
