Upgrade Crossgrade of FCS?

I hope I am not thrashing a subject here, but...
I did a crossgrade from Final Cut Pro to Final Cut Studio when the offer was available last year. As a result, I now have a "crossgrade" version of FCS as the DVDs are labeled.
Can I use my "crossgrade" version to upgrade to FCS 2.0? I read through all the docs on the FCP 2.0 page, but saw nothing about crossgrade versions.

David S is right.
Still, it is always good practice to go to the upgrade page and read the stated the terms and conditions for yourself rather than listen to unspecified 'others' or internet pundits. Who knows, we could have misinterpreted the language.
The upgrade page can be found >>Here<<</a>

  • Motion upgrade & crossgrade question

    Hi,
I recently purchased the Motion 2 upgrade. I was curious, to qualify for the crossgrade to FCS Universal, do I need to send my Motion 1 disc, the upgrade disc or both?
    Thanks,
    Jamie

    I have this same issue.
It just says "Mail the completed order form, payment, and
the original Motion 2 Install DVD toEmail address."
I take that to mean the Motion 2 install disc

  • Final Cut Studio Upgrade/Crossgrade Nightmare

Hopefully someone here can help me, because I'm facing a huge problem thanks to Apple's horrific upgrade/crossgrade nightmare with Final Cut Studio.
After some forum surfing here, I've discovered that upgrade/crossgrades were offered some months ago, but not anymore. I think this is outrageous on the part of Apple.
    Here's my situation:
September 2006 (Australia): Bought a spiffy G5 / 23" Cinema HD machine with Final Cut Studio (5.0). Spent over $8,000. Used and loved and used and loved.
April 2007 (New Zealand): Bought a spiffy MacPro / 23" HD. Spent another $8,000. Can't used the software because the new machine is intel/Rosetta. Can't "crossgrade" because the offer's gone. Have to upgrade to FCS2. Cool. I will. But it's not here in NZ for a few more weeks, and I need FCP NOW!
    What do I do?
How do I install and run my Final Cut Studio 5.0 on the new intel Mac? Where do I go to get the "crossgrade" (what a load of crap, by the way... to make customers who spent thousands on software have to pay to use it on the new machines) now that the links are all redirecting to FCS2??
Any advice (URGENTLY) would be most appreciated. I've been on hold with Apple for 20 minutes already. Cheers.
    MacPro 2.66Ghz QX   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Really? The upgrade was no secret? Maybe for people who sit online and read everything there is to know about this stuff... but I've been busy using FCP 5.0 for a year and a half on a PPC machine. How am I supposed to know that when I buy a new MacPro everything is going to come crashing to a halt? I've had better upgrade experiences with Windoze machines (and those have been pretty horrific--the appropriate and suitable word here--too)!
And why exactly should I have to pay $700 USD for the privilege of using MY software on a newer machine? I have no problem paying the upgrade price for Final Cut Studio 2... it's a new product, better features, etc. But to pay it to use software I bought a year and a half ago on a new machine? The "crossgrade" should be FREE. Yes, I know that's a bad word in the Apple world, but if you're going to do a shift in technology, it's completely disrespectful to your customers to present them with a situation of being unable to use what they've paid dearly for. Honestly. It's one of the "benefits" Apple uses to SELL their computers -- whatever happened to It just works, and You can use all your old stuff?
Mate, you don't have to sympathize with my position. But after spending $18,000, I think a reasonable solution to this problem is fair and warranted.
If anyone else has any suggestions, I would very much appreciate them.

  • Upgrade FCS2 to FCS

I'm about to upgrade my system from FCS2 to the FCS with the Final Cut Studio Upgrade package.
Before the upgrade I will install Snow Leopard so it will be a clean install with all existing applications being reinstalled.
Do I need to register my existing FCS2 first in order to do the upgrade?

Do I need to register my existing FCS2 first in order to do the upgrade?
No. All you need is to have its serial nnumber handy.
When you install the new version, enter the serial number that came with it.
You will then be prompted that your serial number is an upgrade and that you have to now enter the number from the full price retail copy of FCS 2.

  • Poor upgrade/crossgrade policy.

I saw that Adobe is taking pre-orders for CS3.3.
When CS3 was released there was no package containing both Indesign and Fireworks (other than the Master collection). So I purchased the Web Premium CS3 and then upgraded a stand alone Indesign I had.
I saw the Design Premium CS 3.3 and the fact that it now contains both Indesign and Fireworks so I was considering the cross/upgrade from the Web Premium just to get everything in 1 package. Acrobat 9 may be nice, but it wasn't my primary reason for considering the upgrade to CS3.3.
I was expecting the same $159 upgrade -- after all, I already own all the software I'd be getting (except the Acrobat upgrade). To my shock, Adobe stated they want $599 to crossgrade from the Web Premium to the Design Premium. Now, I'd understand $599 if I didn't own Indesign, but I do.
Adobe really needs to look at a customer history and see that some of us are long time buyers and own many versions. Why isn't there a proper crossgrade path here? And why am I to be finically penalized because Adobe was short-sighted enough to not initially release CS3 with both Indesign and Fireworks, especially since they dropped Imageready.
Now, I'll wait for CS4 and see what Adobe is willing to do then. The sale for CS3.3 has been lost.

    Keith,
Regardless of whether you are buying software or computer hardware, an HDTV, a specific camera model, a specific car model, a quart of milk, a bottle of wine, a restaurant meal, a mutual fund, theatre tickets, a new suit, etc., a savvy shopper will carefully check it out, right down to (as appropriate) how long the product has been on the shelves, plus reviews, appropriateness for them, and quality.
Too many folks will obsess over whether diet Pepsi is better than diet Coke, but will blindly toss hundreds of dollars at software purchases.
That said, yes, customer service should be there for your questions and should be able to articulate issues clearly. Adobe (and a number of other software developers) could do better. But independent research is just as important, just as I wouldn't trust the accuracy of everything the car dealer tells me.

  • Just upgraded to latest fcs. can i run older version?

we've been using final cut studio (which includes fcp 5) on our ppc g5s for years. we had a project come in that required fcp 6 so i've bought the latest final cut studio upgrade. the only problem is that it comes with fcp7 and can only run on intel macs.
so my question is, as i've bought the upgrade how can i run fcp6 on our g5s?
    best wishes
    max

as i've bought the upgrade how can i run fcp6 on our g5s?
    FCP7 does not include FCP6.
Time to upgrade your computer to an intel Mac (mac pro recommended). That G5 of yours must have been paid off a long time ago ... you need to get ready to climb back on the update merry-go-round ....

  • What video card do I need to upgrade to run FCS 2 on my G5?

Close to buying FCS 2 to use all applications, including Color on DVC PRO HD 1080i project. I know I must uprgrade my ram , monitor and some other specs, but is there a preferred graphics card out there that can get the job done for my Dual 1.8 G5?
    Gracias.
    -El_Matador

    Hi-
After reviewing the system requirements for FCS 2, you'll see that you want the most powerful card that you can get:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html
As for what card, could you clarify the model of G5 DP 1.8 that you have?
    In the mean time:

The refurbished X800 XT would be a likely candidate.

  • Audition Upgrade/Crossgrade

    Hi there,
Am posting on here as I've tried emailing Adobe customer service who apparently can't reply to a fairly simple question... Anyway, gripes aside...
I'm looking to upgrade from a student copy of Adobe Audition 1.5 to a full copy of Audition 3, but also switch from PC to Intel Mac.
Does anyone know whether I can do this upgrade and which upgrade package on the website is suitable?
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

I believe you can upgrade directly from Audition v1.5 to Audition v3.0 by ordering it from the Adobe store. I hope you realize that you will have to boot your computer to Windows to run Audition. Audition is Windows only.

  • Upgrade/Crossgrade from X6-00 to C6-01?

Like many, I am more than a little frustrated by my X6, RM-551, 0592621, I am one who upgrade to 30.2.003 only to find out that 30.2.005 was current but not available! I kept getting upgrade notices but could not upgrade because the version did not exist! FInally, they removed the upgrade and 21.2.005 shows as current. It's a mess. Nonetheless, I like the phone, but am considering getting the C6-01. I realize it's very similar to the X6, but has some differences I like.
    1) Compatibility with TMO USA 3g
    2) Symbian ^3 OS
The rest seems very familiar. I realize the C6-01 is just being released in the US, but would like feedback from others who may have tried it or thoughts about my plans.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The C6-01 is a good phone and better than the X6 in almost every way. The only area where the X6 is better is through the loudspeakers because the C6-01 only has a mono loudspeaker but it is loud.
It is far better built than the X6 and feels like a quality product. Music quality through headphones is really good, and the screen is far batter than the X6's, especially outdoors. It's also a lot faster than the X6 and the screen is more responsive.
    Like it's big brothers, the N8 & C7, the C6-01 will work on TMO US's 3g network.
My wife has had a C6-01 since December and not had any trouble with it and greatly prefers it over her previous two phones, the HTC Wildfire and an X6.

  • FCS 2 Upgrade Path

I had purchased Production Suite a few years back and upgraded/crossgrade to FCS1 sometime last year. I was hoping to upgrade now to FCS2 and have just bought the upgrade package for FCS (which remains as yet unopened).
A query - i do not have the original discs for Production Suite (returned for the crossgrade), but also cannot find the serial numbers - would the upgrade to FCS 2 work with the serial number i have for the FCS 1 Crossgrade?

I did an install of an upgrade-from-FCS copy of FCS 2 on a brand new box (no existing version installed) and it only asked for the serial number from FCS 1 even though that (the FCP crossgrade version) was an upgrade from FCP.
I had my serial number from FCP 3 (my first, non-upgrade version) ready to plug in, it didn't ask for anything outside of the FCS 1 serial number. At least in my case.

  • Upgrade to FCS 3 CONFUSION!

Just bought the FCS 3 upgrade. Will be installing on a 17" Macbook Pro. Apple Store told me I have to install my current version 1 of FCS first before I can do the upgrade. But FCS 1 is also an upgrade, so how far do I have to track backwards in this installation process? The only full version I have is FCP 2 and I've been upgrading since then.
    Thanks!

There is no need to install any previous version.
When you install the upgrade, the installer will prompt you for the upgrade serial number and then the serial number of the version you upgraded from
    That's all you need.

  • Out an install disc on the "crossgrade"/"upgrade"?

Maybe a silly question, but I'm wondering - if I send Apple my FCP4 install disc - and I decide to wipe the machine and re-install everything, will this "upgrade"/ "Crossgrade" work? Or is this strictly an upgrade to what is already on the machine? I don't want to be out an install disc....

I can't answer your question officially and I've yet to receive my upgrade discs but I'm pretty sure the upgrade disc is a full upgrade. If it was a partial upgrade, it would require your old discs and you have to send those in.
Upgrades are available even as far back as FCP 1, IIRC, so requiring that you have a working install prior to upgrading would be very difficult.

  • Crossgrade Question

I have two FCP Studio licenses. I understand that the crossgrade is a universal edition, and that 5.1 has features not found in the previous version. I have sent disks in and upgraded one license since I just upgraded on computer to the new Intel iMac.
My question: can I use the same disks to upgrade on my non-intel G5, using my other license serial number, without sending the other set back and paying the (modest) crossgrade fee?
I wasn't planning on using the universal version on the G5, except now the project format is incompatible. Bummer.
    Philip at Parabolic Productions

I have a question about what to send back to Apple for the crossgrade to FCS. The pdf states that the original install disc is all that's is needed. I bought a STP retail upgrade in Dec. of last year, a B'day gift to myself to upgrade from ST 1.2, and have just come up with the $199 to go for FCS. I have not done a great deal of working projects in STP but have recently been asked to do a soundtrack and possibly some minor video editing for a local paid TV station program. Do I need to send all the discs back including the loops and training discs from the upgrade or just the STP upgrade install disc? I have read different versions of this in the forums. I also just bought a new Quad that I have yet to install STP on. Just got it two weeks ago thus the lack of funds for the FCS upgrade! I have been weeding through software to decide what stays on the Quad from the old Mac and what is not necessary. Will I need to install STP first before I send the disc(s) back or will the version they send install without STP on the Quad which as of right now doesn't have it loaded? Sorry I just found out about this in early April and it's been bugging me and I just aquired the funds to try and go for the full FCS and the offer to do some real editing has me excited. I am just trying to do everything right. It's kind of hard for me as I will be shipping the original disc or disc(s) off to Apple and that was hard earned money for me.
    Any insight would be great.
    Thanks

  • Need FCP 5.1 before I can upgrade to 5.1.2

I have just reinstalled by FCP Studio and before I can upgrade to 5.1.2 I have to have 5.1 ! Where do I find it? ASearch of the Apple site doesn't bring it up. Thanks

Are you asking why you can't install FCS 5.1.2 from 5 on your Mac.
FCP 5.1 is a Universial version of the application. It is made to run natively on Intel-based Macs.
You need the crossgrade from FCS 5 to 5.1. It's not a complete necessity.
There's not much of a significance between 5 and 5.1

  • Final Cut Pro Upgrade Offer

Can anyone answer my WHY my version of Final Cut Pro 4 Part Number = M9038 Z/A does not qualify for the upgrade to Final Cut Studio? I feel cheated

what makes you think it doesn't?
it stated quite clearly on Apple's FCS Universal Crossgrade page that FCP4 van be crossgraded to FCS for $199
in the blurb at the bottom of the crossgrade order form it even mentions your specific version right off the bat "You must have purchased Final Cut Pro 4 Retail (M9038Z/A)...." blah blah blah
