Upgrade CS3 TO CS4 - Serial Number Not Recognised - HELP!

Hi there,
From what I have been reading, there seems to ba a few people who are having problems upgrading to CS4 from CS3. Well, I'm afraid I'm another to add to the list. Can anyone help me in my plight?
My O.S is Windows XP Pro (SP3) and my computer has more than enough nuts and bolts inside it to run NASA never mind CS4! My anti virus is AVG 8.5 and my firewall is Zone Alarm, both of which were disabled during the attempted install.
I purchased the upgrade from the Adobe store (at £165) and had the box delivered - great so-far!
However, when I came to install the upgrade, and after putting in the correct CS4 serial, a window opened to inform me that the system-profile search, failed to find the CS3 in the defaul location - and believe me it's there! I followed the on-screen instructions, typing-in the serial number of my (leagally-bought) CS3; to my horror, it told me that the serial number was 'not a valid copy' when it clearly is!!
I have successfully installed the CS4 Upgrade only on a 30 day trial basis but still cannot register as it then tells me that BOTH my serial numbers are invalid. Suffice to say that the 30 day trial version was later uninstalled and I am now back to square-one and £165 poorer!
I have opened a case with Adobe but after over a week have still had no reply. Phoning customer support in the UK was also a no-no as their office hours (9-5 Mon to Fri) are not compatible with me as I cannot be next to my machine during these times (Unless I take a day off!) My next option is to phone the States but hey - it's only money!!
My question is therefore - can anyone help or make suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue. A point to note that after buying and installing CS3 I notice in the headline (once the programme is running) it is labelled 'CS3 EXTENDED'  yet this is not written on the box - is this normal? The CS4 Upgrade was the same so it looks like I am trying to install a like-for-like product.
Thanks in anticipation.

What's the point though of issuing upgrades that don't upgrade?
Well, once it was pretty easy. There was only one full-version of PS. Back then, there were variations with terms like "Lite," and "LE," and these were basically bundled with scanners, etc. They were the precursors to PSElements. For a bit, there were only two PS and PSE. The "upgrade" was either the full-version upgraded to the next version, or the full-version from PSE. Then "Extended" was introduced, and now there are two full-versions. Each will have their own upgrade path, so some care needs to be exercised. Extended basically offers more video capabilities over the "regular."
Upgrade paths have also changed, and can come into play, when one uses a stand-alone to upgrade to a "suite." Once, one could upgrade separate programs directly, but with suites, things get a tad more complicated. Though I've had straight PS versions since 2.5, once I went to the Production Stuido suite with PrPro, AE and Audition, I could no longer use my PS license to JUST upgrade PS to PS-Extended. I would have to do the full suite, and now there are several flavors of the Video suites, with one including upgrades for all of my old Macromedia Studio suite. I follow this stuff fairly closely, and have to admit that I am confused, and the Adobe site (good in many other ways) does not cover the various suites and how to get to each from where one is, as well as it could. However, a chart of all possibilities and what is in each suite might fill four screens.
Then, you have to factor in that many resellers do not furnish all the necessary info on what is needed to qualify for specific upgrades. Once, when there were fewer resellers, one had to give the S/N for their existing product, and then this was matched up to the requirements of the upgrade. Now, there are just too many resellers to do that - or Adobe has become a bit more, um-m, "relaxed."
Over the decades, I have found Adobe Customer Support (not necessarily Technical Support) to be quite good and accommodating, when I did have any problem. In the past, they did all that they could to keep me satisfied, and did a good job of it.
Good luck, and please report how it goes,
Hunt

  • Upgrade CS3 TO CS4 - Serial Number Not Recognised. Anyone else have this problem?

yesterday myself and a co-worker spent $200 on the InDesign CS4 "upgrade" that neither of us can install because it will not recognize our VALID serial numbers for our InDesign CS3. has anyone had this issue and resolved it?
i was on the phone with adobe support yesterday for over and hour only to be told that i would have to call them back when they found out what the problem was.

Are you trying to upgrade the Creative Suite to Indesign? If you bought the suite, you must upgrade the suite. You can't upgrade individual parts of the suite.

How are you supposed to know when they find out what the problem is? I think I would want to call them back and be politely insistent.

If the message that comes up is in several languages, you're getting kernal panics. See Dr. Smoke's FAQ at http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html . Many times, kernal panics are caused by bad or failing memory. When you click on the blue apple and about this mac, does it show the memory size you think you have installed? There are other reasons for kernal panics, and the FAQ will walk you through them.

  • Active CS4 serial number not working on a new MacBook Air

Im trying to install/activate CS4 on my new MacBook Air and the serial number is being denied. The serial number is a school site number and has worked on my old laptop, just not my new one. Any solutions to fix this issue would be appreciated!

We can't answer serial number questions in the forums. You'll need to use web chat or call Adobe Customer Service, sorry.

  • Serial number not recognised by apple so can't get online support or updates

    Hi All,
Any suggestions apart from going into an apple store….  I can't update to Mavericks for some reason so I ignored it  apparently that was a good move anyway.  Now saw the new update to Yosemite and looking at the reviews  best to ignore that one too.  Anyway I need an update but I can't even talk to apple support as my serial number on my Macbook Pro isn't even recognised as "Valid".  Go figure?!  Guess I'll have to take it in to the store…  But in the meantime… Anyone?
    AJ.

Mavericks has been removed from the App Store so your only upgrade option is to install Yosemite.
There are no other updates to Mountain Lion.

  • Problems loading CS4, serial number not accepted. Why?

I've just got my CS4 Extended, Student edition for my MacBook and received my emailed serial number, but it won't allow me to install it. I get the little red cross when I input the numbers.
I know I should be checking the language, but I don't know how, or where, as I didn't get any option when i originally put the disc in.
Can anyone give me any guidance please?
    Many thanks
    Mic

I've tried calling Adobe, but here in the UK they have all gone home for the weekend.
I did copy and paste my serial number as well, just to make sure I wasn't getting my numbers muddled.
I'm now wondering have I been really stupid (probably I say to myself) as I have got CS4 and I have a MacBook. Does CS4 work on a MacBook? I'm new to Macs so I may have got the wrong thing
Photoshop CS4 will work fine on a MacBook How much RAM do you have maybe you don't have enough.
Oh well, I suppose I will have to wait till Tuesday till I get sorted (Monday is a public holiday).
I was so hoping to be able to download all my photos.
One thought, would Apeture conflict with CS4?
    Thanks again
    Mic
Aperture will not conflict with Photoshop

The messages you are receiving indicate that you are trying to install an upgrade version.  You are being asked to enter the name and serial number of the older product that you are upgrading from in order to prove that you qualify for using the upgrade.

  • Why is Illustrator CS2 serial number not recognised in a new installation?

    Dear Adobe Community
I have deactivated CS 2 on my home computer in Oxford and I want to install it on my daughter's computer in Leeds for temporary use.
The installation asks for a serial number.  I have two, one that came with the software in 2007 -ish, and one that is quoted on my Adobe login page, but neither is accepted so the software will not install.
If there was a third serial number issued when I downloaded the software then I cannot trace it after seven years.
    Hope someone can help?
    Brian

  • Serial number not recognised

Trying to organise a help call but the apple site is not recongnising the serial number of my iphone 5c? I've got the phone on a contract with Vodaphone through the Carphone Warehouse so it's from reputable sellers so I wouldn't expect it to be a knock off.
I've followed the instructions on how to find it, typed it in uppercase and its saying 'this is not a valid number'!!!!
Trying to get help as Itunes is not playing any videos that used to work despite no hardware changes so everything with apple being really difficult atm!

    Use this link: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it says that your serial number is not valid, then check this article to make sure you're using the correct numbers: Find the serial number of your Apple hardware product - Apple Support
If for some reason the serial number doesn't 'match itself' (i.e., the serial number on the back of the device doesn't match the serial number in Settings > General > About), then contact the seller and find out what's up.

  • Photoshop Photography Program issue - current serial number not recognised

I own a commercial version of Photoshop CS5 (Extended) and have registered the product. I would like to purchase the ‘Photoshop Photography Program for CS3+ customers’ however when I type in my product serial number the system says “We don't have any registered products associated with this Adobe ID”. Is there away around this? Thanks in advance!

You need to talk to Adobe directly when it comes to purchasing matters.
Here is a link to a page with options to help initiate contact - they might be able to point you to a more meaningful contact if they cannot process matters for you:

  • Serial Number not Recognised by Toshiba

I recently bought a P505-S8980 and when I've attempted to register with Toshiba I'm advised they have no record of that serial number.  What can I do?

Please edit your post to remove your Serial Number.  It isn't needed and should NEVER be posted in a public forum.  No support person would ever need or ask for the serial number for any reason in a public forum.  They might ask you to send it via a PM, but only do that if you know the person is an actual employee of the company (like Jim, the admin here sometimes requests it to assist users).  NONE of the rest of us are Toshiba Employees and have no need or use for your serial number.
If it still doesn't work you'll need to call Customer Service and register by phone.  See the Contact US link at the top of this page for the phone number.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.
