Upgrade CTM or Downgrade CTC ?

Hi all,
we've been implement DWDM ring consist of 4 nodes ONS15454SDH (ver 7.2) and recently we've added a new DWDM ROADM consist of 5 nodes (ver. 8.51).
currently we're using CTM 8.0 to monitor existing ONS ver 7.2, but with new added nodes ver 8.51, we'll have to upgrade existing CTM8.0 to CTM8.5
issues:
1. we've using CTM server 8.0 to monitor and report traffic for our clients and vital because we don't have any other NMS for Cisco DWDM.
2. upgrading CTM8.0 to CTM8.5 will need downtime, correct me if i'm wrong!
this will make us lost NMS data reported to our client which is avoided.
questions:
1. which one is better, upgrade the NMS server or trying to downgrade Cisco ONS 8.51 to 8.0 software version? (if it's possible)
2. if i'm gonna upgrade NMS CTM8.0 to CTM8.5, is there any issue with bugs , etc?
as you know last time when I upgrade NMS from CTM 7.2 to 8.0, I got bugs which i can't restore my database after upgrade the NMS server. this make us to create an incident report and apologize to our client for losing our NMS database about nine-month periode.
Thanks&Regard
Rano

New software usually have new features and bug fixes that you can take advantage of.
So you should upgrade your CTM to 8.5.
Before upgrading read the CTM8.5 release note and make sure you are aware of any caveat.
It is usually best practice to do a full system backup of your CTM server so that you can recover in the event of upgrade problems..
Upgrade your CTM when you have less activities on the Network, that way you minimize risk to your customers. Note that once the upgrade is completed, CTM will syncronized and retrieve any outstanding and PM data on the DWDM devices.

  • Would this be considered an upgrade or a downgrade?

    _Right now I have_:
    2-year old Mac Pro
    2 x 2.66 Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    4 GB RAM 667MHz DDR2
    OS X Tiger 10.4.11
_I am considering selling it and getting_:
    Brand new iMac
    2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB RAM 1066MHz DDR3
    OS X Leopard 10.5.6
Performance-wise, would this be considered an upgrade or a downgrade?

Booting would perhaps be faster on her system if it has less RAM. The system goes through a power-on self test which will take longer with more RAM. She could also have fewer programs launching on startup.
Web browsing might be faster on hers for a number of reasons: different versions of browser (the Safari 4 beta, for instance, is much faster than earlier version or just about any other browser), a faster Internet connection, etc.
She could have a different version of GarageBand which would be faster.
There are just too many variables to offer much of anything further in the way of advice. Unless you had exactly the same software load - the same version of OS, the same versions of applications, etc. - it's really difficult to say why her system might be faster, or why you might perceive that it's faster.

  • Upgrade to iphone - downgrade part of family plan

I am currently under my parents family plan. Our contract ends in November 2011. I would like to get the iphone soon. My father would like to downgrade his plan to something with less minutes. I would like to keep the same plan i currently have with my blackberry but would like to upgrade to the iphone. Would i have to wait until the contract ends to make all these changes? if not then will there be any charges beside the fee for the new phone itself?

You can change your calling plan at any time, it will not affect your upgrade eligibility or contract. There will be no extra charges for changing your plan. If you and your father are on the same account (I'm assuming you are) when he changes the minutes, just remember that your line will have fewer minutes to use as well, as they are shared among all lines on the account.

  • My iphone 4s is terrible after the 0s6 upgrade, can I downgrade?

Everything was working fine with my 4s before the fateful day I accepted the upgrade to the new os6.  Since then, not only does a fully charged battery only last a matter of hours but the phone "crashes" constantly.  I'll fully charge my battery before bed and it's dead by the morning.  I've turned off all systems I can, wifi, hotspot, etc. and can literally watch the battery drain with no use in front of my eyes.  During a text, email, calendar entry, web search, you name it, the thing goes blank and then back to the home screen, loosing any work I'd been doing. This gets very frustrating when I have to retype every text 2-3 times and send in short bursts to make sure I don't loose the reply.  I've rebooted many times and restored factory settings.  I've synced to itunes and downloaded the update that way thinking there may have been a problem doing it wirelessly the first time.  I've read some other problems with battery life but wonder if anyone else is experiencing these "crashes" and black screnes that reset to the home screen.  I'm afraid to take it back into the Verizon dealer because of course, although I purchased the new phone just 5 months ago, my 30 day Verizon warranty is done and they didn't offer or sign me up to any Apple warranty, just tried to sell me a bullfrog plan that I couldn't afford.  I'm afraid I'm out of luck with fixing this or getting a new phone, I just wish I could downgrade to what I had before.  Of course, other friends are not having any problems at all, just my luck!

Unfortunately, you can't downgrade and will have to hope that Apple releases a patch soon to fix some of the bugs, although I upgraded with no problems at all.

  • Upgrade becomes a downgrade on BT vision package

    Hi
I have recently found I was using too much broadband so followed the link in my warning email to upgrade page. Pressed upgrade and picked a package. Order placed and went through.
Discovered that i has lost Bronxe Pack and ESPN from my vision package and realised that the package i had picked wasn't waht i was originally on so effectively had been downgraded. The broadbang had increased capacity.
On realising the problem upgraded again to get Bronze pack and ESPN reinstalled. Order went through only for it not process on the day it was supposed to. 'In progess' ever since.
Spent 2.5 hours waiting on the phone 2 Scottish 3 Indian Bt workers were unable to help only to say it was a problem that had never been encoutered and that someone would be in touch. ......... Still no one.
Have emailed - no reply except saying it had been processed.
How is it possible to get a downgrade when asking for an upgrade - the website isn't clear?
( DON'T UPGRADE WITHOUT CHECKING THE PACKAGE THOROUGHLY! YOU'LL DOWNGRADE)
Why isn't it simple to reinstall Bronze Pack adn ESPN?
Why do I have to resort to a forum for help because no one in a BT office is able to help?
Why cannot i make direct contact with the correct help team, I just get generic, although polite conversations with call centres after waiting 30-50minutes?
Why are complaints posted through the website not answered?
I am frustated and a little annoyed with  web based system that has now failed to deliver though I suspect the system to take my money will work fine. I was a very happy BT costomer and recommeded it to friends - not i suspect any longer.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    HELP!!!!!
Someone at BT has put my order through again but no ESPN on new order. No contact from BT, no one checked my original order, no one spoke to me, no one even emailed me, just a text thanking me for my order. An order I made 2 weeks ago.
This is getting very, very annoying. Now the date is Tuesday next week. This is not good enough. I have had 3 dates and still no ESPN and Replay, I am not holding my breath for Tuesday.
Whoever has changed this order has failed to see how long I have been waiting and how long i have been without my service, also they have failed to put ESPN on.
I am not being unreasonable here. I want it tomorrow and I want all my services reinstated, It had been working fine for 2 years.
I want a refund for this month and some free credit for the next few months.
PLEASE HELP – I NEED HELP – I AM AT THE END OF THE ROAD.
Are people at BT trying to get me to join Sky or Virgin?

  • Upgrade a XP downgrade

I have a laptop with Windows 7 with a downgrade to XP. It had XP running when it arrived. I now would like to upgrade again to the original Windows 7. How do I go about this? Do I have to purchase Windows 7 or is there just an upgrade I can run?

    Hi,
You can't upgrade to Windows 7 from Windwos XP, it is not supported, you need to perform a clean installation as Rick mentioned before, but you can use Windows Easy Transfer to to help you move your files and settings to another location before you install
    Windows 7.
    Here's a useful guide:

  • WHY IS YOUR UPGRADE REALLY A DOWNGRADE THAT ALLOWS FEWER THINGS?

Some add ons will stop working and some tool bars like google don't work with firefox 5 or 6 so I keep the old as your upgrade is really a downgrade So do you plan to fix the problems so we can have certain add ons as well as yahoo and google toolbars . I just keep the old and do't even want the new because its not as good as your old firefox. Fix it or lose people as you ow have others switching browsers to one not of Firefox Ill keep the old but will just keep clicking off your pop up to downgrade to firefox 6 now I have I think is firefox 4 and very happy as I can have what the others wont let me have

Thanks Jams . I was thinking that it just HAD TO BE FIREFOX because I use my google tool bar just fine while I'm on a Firefox page so it really was not a change in google becuse I am using my google tool bar and firefox at the same time. The changes that firefox made was unlike the older version of fierfox because I uninstalled the new firefox and went to tools and then download and went way back to reinstall the old firefox which i found Fire Fox Setup 4.0(2).exe and reinstalled the old Fire Fox 4 and I have had no problems at all with using my Google tool bar as well as my Yahoo toolbar So it isn't that google isnt supporting Fire Fox they are just incompatable with 5 and 6 so Fire Fox left something out that was in the fire fox 5 and 6 So I tend to think that it isn;t that google made itself non compatable with firefox. Just that firefox 4 has whats needed to work and the firefox 5 and 6 are missing something that allows the google tool bar and the yahoo tool bar so if you would like to have your googlr tool bar just uninstall that new garbadge and reinstall the firefox 4 and everything works just great. I just keep getting these pop ups to upgrade to 5 for a while and now its 6 and if I want to be without my google ti=oolbar all I have do do on that pop up is click install and I just click the red X and keep going with Firefox 4. SO DON"T TELL ME ITS GOOLGE> FireFox just left out whats needed that can be found in firefox 4. Its not google not supporting firfox because they do on 4 Its fireFox not supporting google on firefox 5 and 6 . any comments are welcome

  • Android 2.1 Upgrade is a Downgrade

The Andorid 2.1 upgrade to my Verizon HTC Droid phone has rendered it barely usable.  The worst problem is that after a full charge, my phone now will hold a charge only about 4 hours.  If I use the phone at all, it's 2 hours.  Before the upgrade, I could use it heavily for 6-8 hours before charging it.  Because of the mobile nature of my work, this phenomenon makes my phone close to unusable--and I depend on my phone to get my job done.
To attempt to address this problem, I've re-installed the Advanced Killer App and set it to do what it was doing before the upgrade.  But that didn't help.
I called Verizon support, and all they could tell me to do is turn off GPS satellite usage for maps.  That didn't help.
There was another problem with the upgrade.  When I was asked to allow the upgrade to occur, I was not warned that all of my settings would be destroyed.  If I had been told that, I would not have allowed the upgrade.  It took me easily 3 hours to put my phone back in the order it was in before the upgrade.  I did all of that work, and now it operates worse.

Try the startup cleaner in market and turn off some of the stuff you dont use helped me a bunch.

  • Will Photoshop Elements or Lightroom run on OS 9? [was: An upgrade or a downgrade?]

I was considering buying my husband lightroom or photoshop elements for Xmas. He is currently using photoshop cs 8.0. He hasn't purchased a new cs because of the cost. It's out of our budget and he doesn't like subscription software. Does either program have any advantages over the old cs version. He mainly uses it to edit family photos and occasionally design a poster. Are there any other mac compatible programs you would recommend instead of Lightroom or elements?
    thanks!

He is currently using photoshop cs 8.0.
Which Mac and operating system is your current Mac?
Presumably your husband has an old Mac since Photoshop CS is a PowerPC application which does not install or run on modern Intel-based Macs.
So Lightroom and Elements (which require current Macs and operating systems) will probably not install or run on your current older Mac.
Check the system requirements before you spend any money

  • Need help with upgrading/downgrading info.

Ok, this is a bit complicated for me, so bare with me as I try to get out the relevant info.
My girlfriend currently has a LG Ally, due for an upgrade in less than a month.  I have a HTC Rezound I got fairly recently.  As far as data usage, we use very little; as in, usually less than 1gb a month, but are currently on a grandfathered unlimited data family share plan (forgot the phone minutes, but it's the smallest one with unlimited texts).  I have several other phones, including a Droid and a couple of "dumb" phones.
We recently have been looking to get a tablet.  The thing is, if we have another "smart" device, I'm not seeing the need for having two smart phones.  In fact, a big deterrent for me using my Rezound to it's capacity is I simply like browsing the internet on a larger surface.
So ultimately, to get the best bang for our buck, I'm wondering if it's possible to give my girlfriend my Rezound and I use a flip phone and a tablet with LTE capability.  Is is possible to upgrade her while downgrading myself?
Also, there are other possibilities to consider.  I could upgrade her phone, keep my phone and use only wifi on the tablet that I purchase (which, to be honest, I'd rather not be dependent on the phone in that way.)  According to my calculations, it should be approximately the same with the Share Everything Plan.  We could simply switch our phones and buy a tablet separate.
Ultimately, the end result should be my girlfriend gets an upgrade, I get a tablet, and I don't care what happens to my phone (whether upgrade, downgrade, or neither) as long as I have one.
What are my possible options?  Things to note:  the Ally is a 3G phone, the Rezound is a 4G with a simcard.

Ok I will try to cover everything I can...

Do to the recent changes made this month if you change devices on the account that has the unlimited data plan YOU WILL LOOSE IT unless you buy another smartphone at full price or from another source.
Also if you switch to a non-smartphone you will loose it also because they use a different data plan and when you activate it you will have to get a data plan supporting the non-smartpone device.
We recently have been looking to get a tablet.  The thing is, if we have another "smart" device, I'm not seeing the need for having two smart phones.  In fact, a big deterrent for me using my Rezound to it's capacity is I simply like browsing the internet on a larger surface.
The Tablets are not looked at as a smartphone so Verizon will require you to pay a termination fee to switch from a smartphone to a table but if you add a line this shouldn't effect the account.
So ultimately, to get the best bang for our buck, I'm wondering if it's possible to give my girlfriend my Rezound and I use a flip phone and a tablet with LTE capability.  Is is possible to upgrade her while downgrading myself?
Since you already have the Rezound you can transfer it to your girls account without issues but you still have understand you may loose unlimited data and if you go to a non-smartphone have to change data plan for that device.
Tablets require a data plan on them so I do not think this will be workable..  You can use it on wifi to keep data use down but a data plan is usually included with the purchase on contract but I am not sure if you buy it at full price.
Ultimately, the end result should be my girlfriend gets an upgrade, I get a tablet, and I don't care what happens to my phone (whether upgrade, downgrade, or neither) as long as I have one.
Without know which account has the unlimited plan it is hard to be sure how to do the upgrade without changing your billing on your account.
What are my possible options?  Things to note:  the Ally is a 3G phone, the Rezound is a 4G with a simcard.
3G and 4G isn't much of a factor when it comes to billing anymore because of the new data plans put in place.
With the info supplied I would say it may be wise to consider...
Use your girls update to get the tablet...
Transfer Rezound to your girls account to allow her to have the device..
Activate one of your older Android devices on your account to leave Unlimited Data intact (If your account is the Unlimited One)

  • Iphone 4.0.2 UPGRADE ON IPHONE 3GS

I have downloaded iphone 4.0.2 firmware on Itunes on my Imac.
Considering all the problems this release seems to create,
I decided not to upgrade the Iphone.
I there a way to get rid of the release download on Itunes,
to prevent any accidental unvoluntary uprade ?
    Jean.

i had an ipod touch 3rd gen until a few weeks ago (i sold it), i got an iphone 3G (bcos i can't afford 3GS. in my country it's quite expensive). after i updated my ex-ipod to iOS4, i totally loved it, although at times i noticed it got slow with apps, but nothing big there. just lagged for like 1-2 seconds (which never happened before with OS 3.1.3.
i love the iOS4 so much in my ex-ipod that i soooo..want to upgrade my iphone 3G too, but looking at all these complaints makes me so disappointed. after reading all this complaints, it seems like Apple doesn't really understand its own machines. they should've created at least 2 different updates of iOS4. 1 for the 3GS and above, while another 1 for 3G and below or whatsoever. it really shows that there are so much of a difference between 3G and 3GS.
What Apple is doing to it's users is a sign of "ungrateful". especially to the iphone 3G users. i fell so sad for them. i'm really sorry, u guys.. i really hope Apple will find a COMPLETE solution for us 3G users ASAP, which also includes a REAL upgrade, not a downgrade. helllloooo!!!!
lastly, i feel really GRATEFUL for not upgrading my iphone 3G to the iOS4 (ANY VERSION)!!
p/s: those who have not done the upgrade, PLEASE DO NOT DO IT!!! you'll regret it.

  • 1503653.1 - should change the comptability to 11.0.0 from 10.2.0.5 before manuelly upgrade?

    hi All,
i am trying to follow through the steps.
I will be porting the data from the old box into a new box ( windows 12.1.0.2.0)
I run the pre- tools script -> preupgrd.sql
it give me error or some warning to fix before doing the upgrade.
My question is , before i port over the data via a cold backup, should i first change the compatability to 11.0.0 from 10.2.0.5.0 (source db) then do a cold backup then port over the data to the new box then do the upgrade steps?
of course i can change the init.ora process to 300. As for the rest of the warning, i am not too sure is it necessary for me to do it since i will moving to a new box. Warning likes, EM database control, etc

A full backup isn't neccessary specifically for this upgrade.  Just port your data over, change the compatibile parameter on the spfile/pfile on your target upgrade host and upgrade away.
Your source will be your backup so I would be inclined not to change things on there.
You can ignore some of the warning like EM dbcontrol as it states you can do it manually prior to the upgrade to save time, otherwise it will be done as part of the upgrade process anyway.
Other warnings like. OLAP and the timezone file (timezone is a recommendation) you will need to pay attention to and action, as well as the network ACL warning:

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, sometime the iOS update breaks compatibility and yo have to wait for either an iOS update or a firmware update for your car system.
