  • Upgrade cucm 4 to 9.1

    Dear All
I have three server (one publisher and two subscribers) , i would like to upgrade CUCM from 4.2 to 9.1 to two UCS 7000 business edition M3 , and i read Jump-flash cut steps to UCS pdf , my Questions :
    - to upgrade three servers publisher and two subscribers parallel how it will be ?
    - to upgrade from 4 to 9 ,i need to get the backup by dma from 4 to 7.1 then apply or restore UCS ( 7.1 installed on it ) , what is the dma name i need for this step
    - instead of going to follow upgrade steps (long story) , can i get backup from version 4 by BARS and prepare it in CSV file then in UCS version 9.1 i can put all phones 1200 phones by BULK file , in other words install immedialtly version 9 on UCS then use BULK file to add phones. it is ok ? any recommendations or concentrations about that ?
I am waiting your updates ASAP
    thanks and regards

    1. Always upgrade Publisher first and then you can do subs in parallel
    2. Data Migration Assistant, download latest one for your 4.2 version
    3. You could to some extend, but it would require a lot of manual modifications as the files are different, also there is no export feature in CUCM 4.2 so all entities such as route patterns, CSS, partitions, etc would need to be recreated.

  • Upgrade CUCM 8.6.2 to 9.1

    Hello,
We were looking into setting up CUPS so that we can deploy Jabber/Presence to our users and then discovered that CUCM 9.1 has Cisco IM & Presence built in as a service. My question is, if we upgrade to 9.1, can we leave Unity Connection at 8.6 or does that need to be upgraded as well? Also, what package needs to be downloaded to perform the upgrade? We are currently running 8.6 on a VM and I read that it is an L2 upgrade.
    Thanks for your help.
    Greg

No, IM&P is not built in as a service in CUCM, you do need to install and configure your IM&P server.
Yes, you can keep your CUC on that release.
Review the upgrade guides for CUCM as well as the Release Notes, all the info you need is there.

  • Upgrade cucm from 8.5 to 9.1 : Security issue (CTL Files)

    Hello All,
I am in the process of performing a P2V upgrade from CUCM 8.5 to CUCM 9.1. The same IP address and Hostname on the new cluster will be kept.
Could you please advise on what are the right steps to do this operation, knowing that I have deployed CTL files on my phones using usb etokens.
My cluster includes 1 PUB + 8 SUB distributed over WAN.
Total phones is : 1800 phones
Only the Publisher will be upgraded to virtual instance. All subscribers servers will be kept at mcs.
Actually, I'm working on the Publisher to restore the cucm DB v8.5, do an upgrade to v9 and test all phones behavior before upgrade the whole cluster.
Do i to take care about subscribers before upgrade, knowing that tftp role is on different servers not only the publisher ?
What is the behaviour of phones when going to the new cluster ?
What is needed to be done in maintenance mode and in production mode ?
    Thanks,
    Driss

What version of 8.5.1 are you on?  Look out for https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCtn50405/ which causes certificates to not be backed up properly so when you do the backup/restore you could run into problems.  The good news is that you are using CTLs which uses a physical token so you cannot run into a state where the phones do not trust anything (unless the tokens are lost/damaged of course).

  • Disck Space not enough during upgrade CUCM 9.1(2)SU1 to 9.1(2)SU2a

    Hi,
I face an issues during upgrade my current CUCM 9.1(2)SU1 to 9.1(2)SU2a, it show with this error message "There is not enough disk space in the common partition to perform the upgrade, for steps to resolve this condition please refer to CUCM 9.1(1) release notes or view defect CSCuc63312 in bug toolkit on Cisco.com".  I had check the bug id and got 2 way to do it:-
    1. reduce the amount of traces on the system, but I not ready want to do this
    2. install a COP file name: ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.0.cop.sgn
If I select option 2, will it have any risk? Is it mean 9.1(2) - inactive version will be clear out from disk space or it will clear out 2 version - active and inactive version from disk space?
I need have some advice on this before I perform.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    As per the following link
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/rel_notes/9_1_1/CUCM_BK_R6F8DBD4_00_release-notes-for-cucm-91/CUCM_BK_R6F8DBD4_00_release-notes-for-cucm-91_chapter_011.html
You will not be able to switch to the previous version after the COP file is installed. For example, if you are upgrading from Cisco Unified Communications Manager 9.0(1) to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 9.1(1) and the previous version is Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.6, the COP file clears the space by removing the 8.6 version data that resides in the common partition. So after you apply the COP file, you will not be able to switch to the 8.6 version."
Additionally, regarding the first option, if you do not want to reduce the tracing levels you can still delete some old traces using RTMT which gives you an option of deleting the traces from the server as well as transferring / downloading them to your pc simultaneously by checking the 'delete from server' option on last page of log file collection option.

  • Upgrade CUCM 9.1 to 10.5

    Hello,
I am looking for the recommended upgrade path for CUCM 9.1 to 10.5. The installation consists of a publisher and a subscriber (different locations) and we are using UCS C240 servers. Which procedure would minimize the down time? Can we create new VMs for publisher and subscriber with ver. 10.5 and restore the database from 9.1.1? I appreciate any input or opinion.
    Thanks.
    John

    Jaime is correct.
Caution from one of many Cisco DRS docs expressing the same message:
Before you restore Cisco Unified Communications Manager, ensure that the Cisco Unified Communications Manager version that is installed on the server matches the version of the backup file that you want to restore. The Disaster Recovery System supports only matching versions of Cisco Unified Communications Manager for restore. For example, the Disaster Recovery System does not allow a restore from version 8.6.1.20000-1 to version 8.6.2.20000-2, or from version 8.6.2.20000-2 to 8.6.2.21900-5.

  • Upgrade CUCM 9.1 (BE6K) to CUCM 10.5

    Hi All,
We are facing the process to update CUCM and I&M on a BE6K platform from 9.1 version to the latest one (CUCM 10.5),
    The UCSS is still valid.
Could someone put us on the right direction?
Is Expressway Core and Edge already included if my CUCM upgraded to v10.5?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

Recently I've contact and ask Cisco Licensing Team to Upgrade my CUCM 9.1 to CUCM 10.5,
and they said that my case is an "ordering issue".
Do I need to order some SKUs from CCW before I can upgrade my CUCM?
    What SKUs that I need?
    Please advise,
    Thanks,

  • Upgrade CUCM 5.1(3c) to 5.1(3g) and CRS 4.5(2)SR01

...as we are planning an in version upgrade/patch to our cucm cluster.  This document does not list CUCM 5.1(3g) - it only shows up to 5.1(3e).  Our current JTAPI version on the CRS server is 3.1(1.4), according to jtapiversion.txt
Will CRS need an update as well in order to continure inter-operating with the new CUCM version?

  • Upgrading cucm cluster

Hello everyone. I am facing an issue right now. The last weekend we upgrade our customer cucm cluster.
The cluster has 7 servers but finally we were able to upgrade 5 of the 7. 2 of them failed. I remove the servers from the publisher and turn them off. We need to reinstall the two servers but we do not have the bootable media at wich the cluster finally is working now. I am wondering if it is possible to install a 7.1.3 or another cucm version and after that upgrade to 8.6.2.22900-9.
Does any one has done this.?
    Regards

No, all phones. Check out release notes:

  • Upgrade cucm 4.1(3) to 7.1(2) using dma - import failed

    Hi every body,
I have cucm 4.1(3) and I want to upgrade to 7.1(2).
I used DMA to export the cucm database and the DMA result is : Validation = Success with Warnings
DMA has generate the lic file : "licupgrade.lic"
I created the answer file to install cucm automatically with a new hostname, administrator login and password : "platformConfig"
During the cucm installation, the software has detected the usb drive that contains all files but the dma import failed.
I have the following error message : "file retrieval failed for unknown reason"
    I have seen that I can :
    * trie to change the file name of the .tar file
    * trie to use FTP with 3CDEAMON
    * use SFTP or FTP
But it never works, it still have the issue.
Does someone have an idea ?
    Thank you

Hi Alain. I did this same deployment on last October.
First the DMA Sucess with warnings have nothing to do with the unretrieval of the file. When i had this message it meant that the users, translation patterns and some route patterns could not be exported in my case. What i did was to BAT the translation patterns and users on the 4.1 and then Bulk Them on the 7 version. The router patterns had to be added manually btw.
Now back to your real issue, also happened to me. I normally use the Windows Xp FTP installed from the Control-Panel-Add Programs- Add remove windows componnents- . Its actually very simple, the trick is to add the slash to the directory field.
And all you need to add is the information like this.
    Directory: \
    Username: anonymous
    password: anonymous:[email protected]   (x.x.x.x = your ip)
You can also use JScape Secure FTP Server, which is the one i normally use to do the backups over the SFTP feature.
Try the windows FTP and tell me how it went.

  • Upgrade CUCM Subscriber after the CUCM Publisher, but when ?

    Dear Networkers,
Whe we do have a CUCM cluster to upgrade, i know that we should start by upgrading the publisher then upgrading the subscribers one by one.
    My question :
I remember i read somewhere that we can start upgrading the subscriber during the upgrade of the publisher but when the publisher reaches a special step in the displayed status in the output of the OS upgrade web page... I can't remember what was that step..
    Can you please help ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Haouaswajih,
    Upgrade a cluster:
When you upgrade a cluster to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 9.0(1), begin upgrading the publisher
node first. You can begin upgrading subsequent nodes in parallel after the publisher node reaches a specified
point in the upgrade. The remainder of this section describes how to determine when you can begin to upgrade
    the subsequent nodes.
During the upgrade of the publisher node, view the installation log, install_log_.log, by using
the Software Installation/Upgrade window in Cisco Unified Communications Operating System Administration
or the command line interface (CLI). You can begin the upgrade of the subsequent nodes after the following
    information displays in the log:
    PRODUCT_TARGET is
    PRODUCT_NAME is
    PRODUCT_VERSION is
You can also use the CLI to search for the relevant information in the install log by following this procedure:
    Procedure
Step 1 List the install logs; for example:
    file list install install_* date
    install_log_2008-10-01.09.41.57.log install_log_2008-10-08.12.59.29.log
    install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log
    dir count = 0, file count = 3
Step 2 Search the most recent install log for the string PRODUCT_VERSION; for example:
    file search install install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log PRODUCT_VERSION
    Searching path: /var/log/install/install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log
    Searching file: /var/log/install/install_log_2008-10-14.09.31.06.log
    10/14/2008 09:52:14 upgrade_os.sh|PRODUCT_VERSION is
    7.1.0.39000-97|
    Search completed
Step 3 When the file search command finds the PRODUCT_VERSION string in the install log, you can start the
    upgrade of the subsequent nodes.
If you want to upgrade the subsequent nodes in parallel with the publisher node, do not choose
the Reboot to upgraded partition on either publisher node or subsequent nodes while configuring
the upgrade options. If selected, the publisher node may complete its upgrade and reboot while
the subsequent nodes are upgrading, which causes the upgrade of the subsequent nodes to fail.
    Caution
When you are ready to activate the new version, you must activate the new software on the publisher node
before activating it on all other nodes.
Refer page 23 onwards in the below link,
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/upgrade/9_0_1/CUCM_BK_U8D523AB_00_upgrade-guide-cucm-90.pdf

  • Upgrade cucm,cuc,im&presence from 8.6 to 10.5

    hi guys
i need assistance to understand the precise steps with the upgrade here.
i read a lot about the ova changes, nic changes and more, but i m not sure about many steps here .
is there anyone who upgrade successfully that can things sorted?
    tk
    shoham

If they are already on the VMs then it is much easier:
    1. Get the refresh Cop file installed on all the servers (publisher first and then the remaining servers)
    2. Once you have done the Refresh upgrade, then very carefully read the exact version number, as you can do a direct upgrade to version 10.5 from 8.6, however you must be able to match the exact release number which CSCO allows to do a direct upgrade to 10.5, else you may encounter "this upgrade is not allowed" and then you will have to upgrade to 9.x and then 10.0 and then 10.5,  Hence it will save a lot of time,
    3. Once the upgrade has been completed, on the CCM Pub, enable the PLM for the license management.
Just so that you know, once it is 10.x, the licensing system becomes a lot more different than 8.x, hence I will recommend that you keep all the PAKs handy BEFORE you attempt the upgrade.
Once it has been upgraded, using the PLM you can generate a lic request and get the Lic directly to the servers or you can generate a lic Request file and get the Lic from TAC's help.
    4. In 10.x the system wants every user phone to be assigned with an "Owner ID" , so I will highly recommend that you take care of that aspect (by BAT) during the upgrade or right after it, else it will back to haunt you.
    All the best!

  • Upgrading CUCM 7.0.2 to 8.6 questions

I have two questions about upgrading Call Manager 7.0.2 to Communications Manager 8.6 on one publisher and one subscriber: They are currently running Cisco Teleprence rooms (CTS-3010's) as well as conferece stations.
    - Can I upgrade directly from 7.0.2 to 8.6, or is there an incremental upgrade I need to do?
    - Do I need to do any manual phone, codecs upgrades, or will this take place automatically after the CM servers are upgraded?
    Regards
    Ahmad

@Chris Deren, Thanks for the response.
I believe the appropriate upgrade path would be from 7.0.2 - 7.1.5 - 8.6.2, However I would like to inquire over potential implications to the present Call Manager setup and configuration with regards to IP Phone firmwares, Telepresence Room Codec (this is a CTS 3010 deployment) and IP Phone firmwares etc.
Would the firware loads be automatically upgraded?
