Upgrade DB in a different OS

Dear all,
9.2.0.6 on RHEL ES 4. We are planning to migrate this database to a new server with RHEL ES 5. Now 9i is not compatible to run with RHEL ES 5, how to do this upgrade ?.
This is a EBusiness suite database and cannot be migrated usiing exp and imp as this is not supported in this version. We cannot uprade in the current server as the server is very old and doesn't have enough resource.

What version are you upgrading to ?

Upgrade to 8.2 - different versions on different computers

I have an iPhone 3G, which I would like to upgrade to the newest version of the iPhone software (v3.0), via iTunes 8.2.
My problem is that I sync with iTunes on two different PCs - one at home (for music) and one at work (for contacts and calendar). I can upgrade iTunes at home, but not at work, so I'm currently stuck with iTunes version 8.0.1.11 at work.
My question is: would I still be able to sync my iPhone successfully with my work PC (running iTunes 8.0.1.11) if my iPhone is running off version 3.0?
(Even better, does anyone know how I can upgrade my work PC to the new iTunes version evading the administrator privileges issue?)
FYI - MobileMe could not be a solution as it also will not install on my work PC.

Upgrading Essbase to a different ARBORPATH

I'll soon be upgrading a client's environment from Essbase version 6.1 to 6.5, and I'd appreciate some feedback on my approach to the upgrade process.My problem is that the new installation directory for Essbase will be different to the current one. The current ARBORPATH is /apps/essbase/ess610p3 (lets call this ARBORPATH_old), whereas the new installation will be to /apps/essbase/ess6542 (ARBORPATH_new). $ARBORPATH_old/app contains the application directories, outlines etc, and the page and index files are stored in other file systems.Once Essbase 6.1 is shutdown and the new binaries installed, I will copy the contents of $ARBORPATH_old/app/ to $ARBORPATH_new/app/. Then the Essbase.sec and Essbase.cfg files will be copied from $ARBORPATH_old/bin to $ARBORPATH_new/bin/. The .profile will then be modified to include the new values for ARBORPATH, PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and the 6.5 server started. The VALIDATE command will then be run on all cubes to upgrade the .IND and .PAG files.Is this approach valid? Is there anything other than the /app directories and the Essbase.sec and .cfg files I'll need to copy to make the new instance 'recognise' the existing cubes?Thanks in advanceCRAIGSTER

I think you will have problems with your approach. The problem will be with your data and index files. It would be best to export the data from the old version before the change, then copy everything except .pag, .ind, .esm and .tct files. Copy your security file then laod the data. The problem is that path info is stored in some of the files. Also, you need to copy over all applications in the app directory. If there are some you don't want. Delete them through application manager or EAS after the change. Oterwise the security file could have problems with the phantom applications. Glenn S. [email protected]

Advantage of upgrading to Tiger on different systems

Couple of weeks ago I upgraded my 15" Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz (512 MB RAM) from 10.3.9 to full Tiger. It went very smoothly and I love the new system - why oh why didn't I do it earlier??!! Tiger is definitely zippier on this system than Panther, even with the relatively low RAM.
I am now thinking of upgrading couple of my older Mac computers at work from Panther to Tiger too. I know the minimum hardware requirements for Tiger, and the systems do meet that. But, about a week and a half ago, I came across a non-Apple website article that had a good description of the feasibility of upgrading to Tiger on a whole slew of different Macs with different amounts of memory, processor speed etc. It was a really good article and would be a great guide for what I am trying to do. BUT, I can't find it again, neither in my history or by searching the web for the last hour. I can't remember how I found it.
Does anyone know where that article or set of notes is? Please??!!

I don't know the article but, I have install and ran Tiger on systems that actually were below the recommended requirements. But I do know that a G3 processor iMac (500Mhz) and iBook(700Mhz) with 256MB ram did very well with Tiger and the iBook when maxing out the RAM 640 Mb ran Very Nice even with applications that suggested 1Gig ram..Photoshop for example.
I don't think you will have a problem, but if you are concerned, make a backup. You can always revert back!!

After ios7 upgrade, I cannot select different ringtone for different phone #

I had set up different ringtones for specific phone numbers but after ios7 upgrade, all the phone numbers ring with the default ringtone. The ringtones are still individually assigned correctly when I look in the addresses book. I have even tried changing an assigned ring tone to something else & heard the new ring tone when it was selected, but when the number was called, I just got the default ringtone.
Any ideas or solutions?

Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with Messages after upgrading to iOS 7.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPhone:
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.

If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the Messages app, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.

How can I renew /upgrade in a country different to one where my account originally registered?

Thank you for advice on how to resolve this.
I registered and originally bought my product in Ireland. I now live in Netherlands, am trying to renew/upgrade my Adobe products, and at checkout keeps telling me - in dutch that I can't complete my purchase, as my account associated in another country and to register an account in this country.
When I try to register an account in NL, it says my email address already associated with an adobe account!!
Catch 22?

Hi Michael ,
You can log in to Adobe.com with your credentials and you can change your region or country from the option "Change Region" at the bottom left of the page .
From there you can change your region and select the preferred one and make the payments.

Contacts crashes repeated after upgrade to Lion - 2 different computers

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and a 2011 MacAir. I upgraded both simultaneously (separate downloads via the App Store) and both have exactly the same problem with the Contacts app crashing immediately after it opens. I can never open it long enough to use it at all. I crashes w/i 1 second of opening. Everything else about the upgrades seems to have gone smoothly and the systems are very stable otherwise.
Is anyone else having this? Is there a fix?

More on this after seeing some others are having a similar issue:
- I don't use an Exchange server or iCloud
- I do sync my contacts with Plaxo, and have realized when Plaxo is closed, the Contacts app doesn't crash. I had to redownload Plaxo after ML upgrade and it apparently is causing the crashing.
- Before the crash, I could see all my contacts in the app, unlike others who report they have no contacts.
PLAXO SYNC APP IS THE PROBLEM......contacting Plaxo now.

Upgrade CRS owner as different user

i am running RAC 10gR2 (10.2.0.4) with CRS,ASM and database as one user "oracle"
we plan to move to 11gR2 and oracle best practice recommends to separate the owner of the grid infrastructure and the database.
we like to use user "grid " for grid infrastructure and "oracle" for RAC database. But it seems like this best practice is for new installation. According to

you have to use the same owner that owns the CRS and ASM to do the upgrade and there is no workaround to this.

The instructions in the installation guide seem to be fairly clear-cut. In appendix F.4 of my Grid Infrastruction installation guide it says "With Oracle Clusterware 11g release 1 and later releases, the same user that owned the Oracle Clusterware 10g software must perform the Oracle Clusterware 11g upgrade." I see no wiggle room there, so you will need to continue using oracle as both the cluster owner and the rdbms software owner.
The only alternative, I guess, would be to dismantle the entire cluster and proceed with the Grid Infrastructure installation as you would with a completely new cluster. Personally I doubt that it's worth the trouble. We use separate ids for database and cluster where I work, but it's certainly reasonable to combine these roles.

Thinking of upgrading camera but with different fps: problems?

What challenges in PrPro and AE might I face using footage from both? If I want to set up multi cameras on a shoot am I begging for trouble by continuing to use the Panasonic or by buying a camera that is not 59.97 fps.

Ahh, Mr. JeffinPoulsbo, you're probably about 4 hours up I5 north of me. Not too many Poulsbo's I know of state-side!
Past the items with this specific PAL camera, mixing frame-rates on a sequence is (to qoute a line from a fav movie) "possible but not recommended" ... at least, if you can avoid it. There can be image-quality issues with the transcoding as the computer will need to create frames by sort of guessing and in the process you can loose all sorts of IQ bits. You really need to pick one of the formats as your base timeline framerate and typically transcode the other before adding it to the timeline for editing purposes ... and so yes, it can be done; yes, it's done more often than you might think; no, it's not hardly ever the optimal choice.
PrPro can do its own t-code thing if you drop non-conforming footage on the tl and in the pop-up that normally pops-up click on conform that footage to the timeline. I've heard some folks say it works fine for X footage on a Y timeline, and others say ... you're nuts ... my one caveat: You Mileage WILL vary. So you'll have to try it whatever you come up with.

Filter expression producing different results after upgrade to 11.1.1.7

We recently did an upgrade and noticed that on a number of reports where we're using the FILTER expression that the numbers are very inflated. Where we are not using the FILTER expression the numbers are as expected. In the example below we ran the 'Bookings' report in 10g and came up with one number and ran the same report in 11g (11.1.1.7.0) after the upgrade and got two different results. The data source is the same database for each envrionment. Also, in running the physical SQL generated by the 10g and 11g version of the report we get different the inflated numbers from the 11g SQL. Any ideas on what might be happening or causing the issue?

Thank you for the info. They are definitely different values since ones on the header and the other is on the lines. As the "Won Opportunity" logical column is mapped to multiple LTS it appears the OBI 11 uses a different alogorthim to determine the most efficient table to use in the query generation vs 10g. I'll need to spend some time researching the impact to adding a 'sort' to the LTS. I'm hoping that there's a way to get OBI to use similar logic relative to 10g in how it generated the table priority.

Same Disk Utility issue appeared on 2 different Macs after 10.4.6 upgrade

Yesterday I upgraded the following two different Macs from 10.4.5 to 10.4.6:
1. iMac G3 400MHz, 384MB ram, Maxtor 40GB HD (update via Software Update)
2. PowerMac G4 450MHz AGP, 500MB ram, Ata 133 interface with 160GB HD from a brand I don't remember (update via separate 10.4.5->10.4.6 installer)
The update went fine and both computers booted and function normally in all obvious respects.
On the other hand, when I ran Disk Utility on both Macs and verified the startup drive, the SAME IDENTICAL problem was reported:
Verifying volume “Internal HD”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Illegal name
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
The volume Internal HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair
I ran Disk Utility from the 10.4 Install Disk but it says it coulnd't repair the damage.
I'm not sure about how severe this issue is. I'll refrain from reinstalling everything on both computers until more light is shed on the problem. I'm posting this in the hope that others confirm the issue and Apple take a look into it.

This error appears to be related to Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, and Adobe Creative Suite 2. See File system, I/O, Illegal Name errors, or system crash after you install (Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, Adobe Creative Suite 2).
