Upgrade deleted iCal

Hello,
I'm having issues upgrading. Moving from 10.5.8 to 10.6. Put the upgrade (got through up to date program) disc in, began the upgrade process, and about a third of the way through it gave me the "disc isn't clean enough" error despite it just coming out of the package. Tried again, same issue.
Then rebooted and held down the option key as it was booting and tried installing 10.6 that way, and it was successful. Once I logged in however, I saw that iCal was no longer there. As in, completely gone from the system. Additionally, none of the iLife applications even start up anymore.
Is this a bad disc, or was it something else? Anyone else run into the problem of not having an iCal after installing 10.6? I'm trying to avoid a clean install because of about 32GB of pictures my wife has in an iPhoto library, that would be a lot of work to move around.

HI James and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
*"third of the way through it gave me the "disc isn't clean enough" error despite it just coming out of the package."*
You aren't alone in this. I've seen several posts with a similar disc situation. Contact Apple.
http://www.apple.com/contact/
Apple can't be held responsible for the 32GB of pictures. Try and back those up to an external source as soon as possible. But you might be able to get a new SL disk.
Also, tell them you can't launch your iLife applications.
This link might help understand a little more about the SL upgrade.

  • ICal & Snow Leopard upgrade.  iCal icon is now stuck on July 17th?

    Hi everyone,
I have recently upgraded my Mid '07 Mac Mini from Leopard to Snow Leopard and have only come across 3 problems (None really major).
One of these is my iCal dock icon on my dock is stuck on July 17th rather than the present date unless the app is open. (I am aware that July 17 is the default icon).
I've tried the following to fix it and none have worked so far:
    Relaunched Dock & Finder
    Deleted iCal Preferences in User/Library
Copied the iCal icon with the date on to a variety of places
Removing the dock icon and dragging back in again
Created a new account to see if it's my account with the problem (The problem existed on the new account too).
I can seem to fix this but it was my quick reference to the day's date.
I hope someone can help me. Thank you.

I think only Leopard's iCal has the current date on the dock icon. Tiger and (I guess now) Snow Leopard keep their dock icon on July 17, which is the date that iCal debuted at the MacWorld Expo in New York in 2002. The only time it shows the current date is when the application is running. There is one very simple trick to get it updated and thats to have the app open at login (keep it hidden if you don't want it popping up every time you log on). Other ways include scripting and installing other programs but that can get kinda hectic. =/

  • How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

  • Why have deleted iCal events suddenly reappeared in my calender?

Assistance needed please for an iCal issue on Snow Leopard (iMac).
A bunch of formerly deleted iCal events have suddenly reappeared in iCal. I thought this would be easily resolved by using Time Machine (external HD) to restore the calendar files to when they were workings ok (a couple of days ago). Although this initially appeared to work, all the previously deleted events have suddenly reappeared.
If I was using iCloud I'd assume it was some kind of syncing issue, but I'm not. Least I can rule that out.

    Laura,
Presuming you are using Snow Leopard:
    1. Insert the Snow Leopard Installation disk into the computer.
    2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
    3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
    4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
    5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
    6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
    7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
    9. Select (✓) iCal.
    10. Click (Continue).
    11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

  • My android 2.3 upgrade deleted phone numbers and won't let me edit some of my contacts now.

My Android 2.3 upgrade deleted contacts, deleted some random phone numbers, gave me text and email options for people when it eliminated needed phone numbers. It now has contact from Facebook and yahoo... and I can't seem to edit these and add in the phone numbers it deleted. I need help!!! I am soo  frustrated with this new upgrade, I have barely used my phone for days now!! How do I fix this?

LadyLaRee, I can understand how losing contacts can be frustrating! First, which Android do you have? If you have numbers from Facebook, those cannot be edited because the information is coming from the user's Facebook profile. Also, your contacts from Yahoo may only have the email address which is why it is showing that way. They would need to update the number on their profile. The settings will vary by phone, but if you open your contacts, press the Menu button, you will normally have options for View or something similar. You can select which contact groups you want to show or not. Verify which options are checked. You can deselect Facebook or Yahoo if you choose. You will also have an option to only display contacts with phone numbers.

    kaysteady

The applications will stay, however some applications do not store data in a way compatible with an upgrade. To that end any saved information may be lost.

  • Delete ical

My iCal and mobileme is all messed up. How can I delete EVERYTHING in my calendar, so I can sync, to clear mobileme to start over?

    rskern,
No need to delete iCal. Try this solution.
Then you need to be sure to reset MobileMe sync from the computer that has the most recent information, and replace all of the information on your iPhone. iPhone/iPod touch: Resolving duplicates and removing all contacts/calendars/bookmarks with MobileMe.

  • Attached documents lost after upgrade to iCal 4.0.4

Attached documents lost in iCal after upgrade to iCal 4.0.4; I used to scan documents (written invitations etc.) and attach them to the iCal event. Can I restore them or are they lost forever?

I have exactly the same problem. Came to add a scanned letter to an appointment, and found a) there's nowhere to put it and b) my appointments with similar attached files are now file-less. Where are they? Anyone know?

  • HT3258 upgrade from iCal.app 3.0.6.?

upgrade from iCal.app 3.0.6.? any solutions

Did you move iCal out of your applications folder?  That can cause it to get to miss an update when you upgrade your operating system.  Make sure it is in your Applications folder and then upgrade your operating system.
If you have 10.5.7, you can upgrade to 10.5.8 free, and 10.6 might be free depending on if you are on Mobileme.   See this tip.

  • I deleted ical - HELP!

i did a really stupid thing and deleted ical because it simply stopped opening - would just bounce up and down without loading up.
i've tried to reinstall it using the ical.pkg file found in the receipt folder but after looking like it is going to install the installer states that there were errors installing the software and that i should try again. trying again doesn't work either
is there anything i can do? i don't wanna have to reinstall the os if i don't have to
    thanks

    nathann_g,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Just follow the instructions listed in, Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4 to reinstall iCal.
Then download and reinstall the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC) to bring iCal up to the most current version.
    Cheers.

  • Accidently Deleted iCal and want it back!

Last night I accidently deleted iCal (I'm still somewhat new to macs). I'd really like to get it back and have searched everywhere on the internet to get it back. The version available to download off of the apple website is not compatible with my version of OS X (10.4.11). I read the manual and tried downloading the bundled software of the disk. Unfortunately it didn't work. I was hoping that someone could help me get it back without having to reinstall OS X completely. If any one has any advice, I would appreciate it greatly.

    Leeners,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I read the manual and tried downloading the bundled software of the disk. Unfortunately it didn't work.
Did you try the installation options outlined in Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4?
Be sure that you follow the procedures listed in...More custom reinstallation options with Mac OS X 10.4
After you reinstall iCal, you should use the OS X Combo Update to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

  • ITunes only shows old deleted iCal calendars

My iTunes only shows old deleted iCal calendars. How do I get it and iCal resynced?

That was useful help. I thought iSync was cremated 2 years ago with the advent of Tiger and was only used to sync phones and pdas. Further, I have searched 'elsewhere' and have not found any other solutions.

  • Delete iCal 5 and restore iCal 4 on Mac OS X Lion

    Hi,
I just got Mac OS X Lion and a new 15" MacBook Pro and I hate the new iCal 5.0.  Not just the appearence of it (which i know can be changed back to the monochromatic) but the way the text isn't color coded to the calendar.
I still have iCal 4.0 on my old mac.  Is it possible to somehow delete iCal 5.0 and install iCal 4.0.  Or download a copy of iCal 4.0 to overwrite this new one.
I don't know if you need to go into terminal etc. but I really want to restore iCal 4.0. (and trying to drag and drop the program from Time Machine was unsucessful.
    thanks!!!

You would break the System by trying such hacks.
iCal ( like Adressbook and Mail )  is more then just the app , it depends on frameworks and extensions throughout the OS.
Also Oct 12 iCloud is in full swing. As you might now, iCal is a big part of it. You would therefore not only break the OS severly but also defect the syncing engine of OSX so much that iCloud might never work on your OS .
Future Updates will also not install or damage more.
Stick with what's in Lion, else go back to Snow.
