Upgrade Display Cards

Currently my display card is a NVIDIA Quadro FX 500/600 PCI. One of the reasons I chose this card is it supprted dual montors. Now that I have upgraded to CS4 Extended I need to upgrade my display card.
When I went to Adobe's List of tested graphics display cards for Photoshop CS4 and seen such a long list of cards for Windows.I thought I would come here and ask if any body else has upgraded theirs. I would perfere to go with a nVidia card. Do any of these cards support dual monitors? Or how can I keep using my two montors? Price wise $250.00 is the highest I can go.
So does any body have any suggestions as to which card to get?

NVIDIA 9800 GT here. Two 19" CRT's. Seems pretty stable.

    Hi:
Graphics adapters cannot be upgraded simply.
You would need to replace the motherboard with one that would have better graphics (if one exists for your model).
This would cost as much as buying a new notebook, so it is probably not a good idea to undertake such an endeavor.

  • T410 display card error.[Help!!]

    Hi,
My laptop is T410 2522PB7. I have 2 critical issues.
    1. After i upgraded the display card driver to latest version. i got a error at my daily use(especially when i watching a movie or playing game). BTW. Cannot attach image from my HDD?
    the error said:
'The display dirver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 257.38 stopped responding and has successfully recoverd.'
this error kept buging me for a whole month. even after i reinstalled the OS or last version display card driver(189.55)
    2. Sound volume always go up and down, left and right when i playing something that provide sound. Also i have tried latest and last version driver.
Could someone help me with these problem please?
    Many thanks.

I'm having the same sort of issues with the display driver crashing. I have gotten the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered: Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Driver, Version 257.38 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." error several times. The crash is usually proceeded by performance degradation under simple tasks like taking notes. Typically this has only happened when I’m not docked and thus not using my external monitor. I haven't noticed the audio issues mentioned in the other forum.
This issue has been unaffected by updates to both Windows (SP1) or the Power Manager
    Model - T410, 2522-W7N
    BIOS version - 6IET68WW (1.28)
    OS loaded (ex. Win 7 Ulti x64) - Win 7 Prof 64 SP1
Lenovo default OS? - No (was preloaded with 32)
Issue happen on Battery / AC / Both? Only noticed on A/C, but don't use battery much
    Updates from TVSU completed? yes
    Updates from Windows Updates? yes
Power Manager Version – sorry, not sure. it’s the most up-to-date version
    Power Management Driver
    RAM installed (brand and 1 x 4gb, 1 x 2gb, 2 x 2gb?) -2 x 2gb (I think)
Any error notification before issue occurred? No, byt Windows generates an error report everytime the driver crashes
3rd party application installed before issue happen? Don’t think so…
Any particular application which is running on the time this issue arises? It’s often pretty low demand stuff like taking notes in OneNote, with FF 4 and Outlook running in the background. Most recently I got a BSOD coming our of standby that said the video card was at fault.
Docked on station? Any USB attached? When taking notes, just a Lenovo USB mouse.
Additional comments which you think might help.
Are you able to recreate the issue on demand? No, it just happens some times out of the blue.

  • Upgrading graphics card in B75MA-P45 system

I have a B75MA-P45 based system with basic msi / nvidia graphics card (630) I think.  The system runs Win8x64 nicely.
I have tried upgrading the graphics card to amd 7850. With the new card, the system never shows the normal bios splash screen.  It can, however, get to Win8 after a bit of patience, if I disable secure boot.
The bios is 1.3B9.  I note that the latest bios (1.5) is said to have improved PCI-E display card compatibility.
I am wary of updating the bios because a lot of the uefi-style settings seem to be undocumented in the motherboard manual (notably those relating to secure boot, win8 certification, compatibility modes, key generation, etc).
What is my best strategy for trying out the new bios without losing all the bios settings, keys, etc, that currently work, with a view to reverting to the existing bios / settings if necessary?

If you update you will in any case loose all current bios settings, CMOS will be cleared. You can take screenshots in UEFI to set again what was set before. Reflashing to the prior bios would require asking for here as downgrading requires a special file.
If you decide to flash >>1.5<< >>use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<

  • Mac display card

I usually play PC games over bootcamp XP, after a few new gen games release, I realized that my MacPro is time to get a little upgrade. The major problem I guess is the display card, the 7300 GT can't stand for high graphics, so I'd want to ask weather it is possible to use PC graphic cards such as 8800, 7950. If the above solution doesn't work, how about using other Mac's display card? appericate your help =)

You are best off with Apple Radeon X1900. Only cards with an EFI BIOS work in OS X.
If you just want to run Windows, then yes, you could use off the shelf non-EFI PC graphics card of your choice. make sure you get the right cables to tap into the power adapter, most high end cards need to and the Mac Pro may have different plugs (there are two, take a look).
The ideal is to get the X1900 as BTO for $249. Otherwise, Apple Store is about the only place and is $399 (the Radeon X2900 512MB sells for $449 as a comparison).
Also, there is 7-10 weeks showing on Apple Store, so my speculation is there is a short supply currently.

  • Upgrade Graphics card in MacBook Pro 15" 2.2GHz Early 2011

    Hi,
I'm new to the forums so please don't comment saying that this has already been posted.
Anyway, I Have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.2GHz Early 2011 and would like to play games using Dolphin. I have been using Dolphin for about 3 months but I have to scale my resolution down to 720p for it to run smoothly. So I was wondering if I could upgrade my graphics card to something that could support this on a 1440 by 900 or at least a 1280 by 800.
Edit: Due do other answers, I now realise that it is not possible to change the graphics card but is there any other way of making it fast enough.
            Thanks again.
    Thanks in advance,

Hi Aaron, Two kinds of people in the world, Tool users and tool builders. In this case, the prior responses to the question presume to know you, they are in a context that stereotype the entire reading audience as only able to consume a shrink wrapped utter non tech end user answer.
Responses fail to ask before they answer follow up questions. They fail to set any boundaries of what you or the audience would consider acceptable and worse pass off (with scorn for your asking it) your question as either foolish or as factually materially not technologically possible.
When in reality, it’s just is not your question which is in error, it appears to be the experience of or the presuming of the posters which have limited the material factual discussion of options.
No one asked you if your goal was to get it done with a technicians help or to purchase a completed finished end user installable bits and make it work yourself. No one asked if you had some, none, extensive or access to technicians who do soldering.
The three respondent’s are likely correct in guessing, most people (in general) can't go buy and solder if their lives depended on it.  However what the posters did, almost appears intended to confuse or conflate the experience with soldering with it with not being possible, rational, reasonable or desirable.
I don’t know you or the other posters, but I value the question and you more than to dismiss it by answering conveniently based on my assumptions about you.
So out of the box thinking is required, to counter the dismissive one liners .."its soldered in, suck it up and buy new".

Soldering irons have been around for over 4,000 years. Up until the late 1800s they were all heated by open flame or burning coals.

Note: I have found an advertisement from 1898 in an issue of "The Electrical Engineer" Vol. XXIV showing a drawing and description of the American Electrical Heater Company's electric soldering iron which pre dates Ernst Sachs electric soldering iron by 23 years.

In December of 1926 William Alferink files for a U.S. patent for a "Combined Holder and Automatic Circuit Breaker for Electric Soldering Irons" (first soldering station?). On July third, 1928 the patent is granted.

Weller sues WEN Products over soldering gun patent infringement.
Court finds in Weller's favor. [More Details]

So the actual fundamental concern is not soldering, soldering has been around for a while, finding a technician is not the issue. Then the issue would seem to me to be, "will a card fit"?
If the card fits, it can be soldered in. That’s the bottom line. An expert might take an hour to solder it, An expert might charge $90 - $250 an hour. A person with more than a little experience will appear as an expert to you. Ask for and check references, BBB to reduce your learning curve. Establish a maximum price, Establish criteria with your expert that make it acceptable to agree in advance in writing to only pay a fixed max amount on successful completion.
Does anyone have a reference of it being done?
Does anyone know a contact company that would take the job?
Does anyone know specific parts (have a URL?) that should or are known to work?
    Milestones
    – Feasibility confirmation
    – Locate engineering soldering expertise
    – Return here and post your experience.
    Notes:
If Apple had Nvidia reduce or reshape the display card specifically to fit the MacBook Pro you’re out of luck however if the MBP card was not customized by Apple then any modern mobile Nvidia board may work if you can find a tech to solder it in.
If Apple changed the already small mobile card form to custom fit the MBP then you’re going to have no luck.
Glad to clear that up for everyone with some material relevant facts for the adults

    Hi:
Unfortunately in most of today's notebooks (including yours), the graphics cannot be upgraded.
I looked at the service manual for your notebook, and there aren't even any other motherboards with better graphics available.
You can try the latest drivers from AMD to see if that helps, any but you can't do anything with the hardware.

  • What upgrade graphic card do i need for a early 2008 mac pro

I have a early 2008 Mac Pro.  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB is what i have now.  What is a good upgrade graphic card to get.

The GTX 780 6GB runs fine on the dual PCIe internal power cables -- as does the GTX 680 and Radeon HD 7950. The same can't be said of the GTX TITAN or GTX 780 Ti or Radeon R9 280X -- all of which require an auxiliary power feed to avoid a nasty power down of your tower at the worst moment when too much wattage is demanded of the Mac Pro's factory power supply.
Did I mention that the GTX 780 with 6GB of GDDR5 matches the 6GB of GDDR5 in the TITAN?
The one fallacy to my 'sweet spot' award has to do with OpenCL. In case you hadn't noticed, the AMD Radeon GPUs smoked the NVIDIA GeForce GPUs running Photoshop's OpenCL accelerated Iris Blur filter and rendering LuxMark's OpenCL accelerated Room scene.
So depends on budget, whether you want a PC card for less but no "early EFI boot screen" prior to drivers loading, and what apps and needs you have.
The one thing for sure is that 2600XT should have been retired ages ago and even more so with 10.8.3 and above, it could be trouble or just... PITA/POS.

Does your AE 9 already work for you?  Go into preferences and see what happens.  You won't break anything.  If it doesn't work, you'll know, and vice-versa.
You should also know that ALMOST NOBODY uses Open GL to accelerate rendering, and that includes Adobe Employees.  The only time it makes sense is with a fancy third-party plugin like Particle Illusion... and even then, you'd better be careful if you stack effects up, because there are bound to be those that just won't work with Open GL.
