UPGRADE DUAL TO QUAD CORE PROCESSOR (MAC PRO 1,1)

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 Dual-Core Intel Xeon 3 GHz , I want to upgrade the processor
I can install Quad Core processor ?? Or What is the processor compatible with this Mac ?
Please help

Hi Hatter,
I have been thinking on the same lines here as Zoomayman, just upgraded the Graphic' s to the 5770 so I can use my New Mac Monitor. On your reply to 'Z' it would help if you added the link to said Thread , saves the ordinary folk like myself hours trying to find said thread.
Any chance of said link please

All Mac Pro's ever made have shipped with gigabit ethernet.  The last non-gigabit tower desktop Apple made was the very first generation PowerMac G4's back in 1999.
Similarly, all Time Capsules have been gigabit ethernet as well - never been one that was not.

  • FCP7.0.3 on OS10.6.8 2x3.2 quad core 8GB Mac Pro

Its playing up again!!!  Particular qt movie files have stopped playing.  QT cant open them FCP wont play them in the veiwer but can see frame in canvas.  When trying to playback in FCP we get "General Error" no ID number with error.  Help please.  Software update is up to date QT version is 10.0 (131).

Ok, I know its been a while....  Anyhow the spec on the laptop is as follows:
    OS 10.4.11
    2Ghz Intel Core Duo
    2Gb memory
                             Laptop                         Macpro
    OS                      10.4.11                    10.6.8
    FCP version         6.0.6                        7.0.3
    QT Version          7.6.4                         10.0
Ok so totally different.  So is the JVC HD201 no longer supported hardware.  Its this camera that is generating the files.  The format its shooting is 720 50p wrapped in a .mov and captured tapelessly to a caddied Focus DR-HD100 harddrive.
Eureka! I have found the cause and the prevention.  See link below accessed through the Focus website:
    http://www.focusinfo.com/dynassets/documents/downloads/MACOSX_Supp_Anncmt_10.21. 11.pdf
So streamclip will work nick but only if the files are recorded in the m2t format on the caddied harddrive.  I guess my work around for now is to edit on the laptop with the earlier software versions and not update until Vitec resolve the issue with Apple.  Other option is to downgrade QT (see article on link)

  • Would this drive fit in my quad core 2010 mac pro?

I would be using this drive with windows as Apple does not support blu-ray.

Yes, any drive will work.. but remember that you might have a problem sometimes with the drive disappearing from finder and not being present in system profiler. This is a problem with non-apple oem drives.. hopefully a fix will come to remedy this problem..
In the meantime, if you should experience this, put your mac to sleep and wake it up - this seems to fix the problem rather than shutting the computer off and starting back up again..

  • ITunes stutters - go to dual or quad core?

    Hi all,
I'm looking for somebody who knows about iTunes and also about hardware...
The issue I've been having for more than a year now is that due to my large library (14,000+ songs) and complex and extensive use of smart playlists, iTunes has to 'think' too much whenever a new song starts playing. Usually this causes iTunes to just freeze for 10 to 20 seconds while it updates all the playlists and the music keeps playing, but sometimes it also causes the music to stutter. I haven't been able to determine which situations cause the stuttering in particular, but suffice it to say that doing heavy photo editing in Adobe Lightroom and playing music with iTunes is usually not all that pleasant.
Now I've been wondering whether a dual or quad core processor would solve this problem. Besides the obvious extra speed, am I right in saying that the problem should largely go away because iTunes and Lightroom would be using different processors? Is the problem only with processor speed or does RAM has an influence too?)
Does anybody have some light to shed on this problem?
    Thank you very much.
    Tijl Kindt

I wasn't aware that I was at the bare minimum. The Athlon64 3800+ is a 2.4GHz single-core. System requirements for iTunes are 500MHz and for lightroom a Pentium 4-class processor (say 1.5GHz). Granted, I'm using them both at the same time and especially iTunes at more extreme than usual settings. I'm using Windows XP Home (32-bit) btw...
So, I guess a dual core or quad core it'll have to be then... Too bad it's gonna cost me around €350 though.
If anybody still has some ideas about solving the stuttering software-wise, then I'm all ears.

  • VISTA Support for Multiple Dual Quad Core Processors

Sorry if I missed this in my search.
Does Windows Vista Home Basic support dual quad core processors?
    Windows Help & Support:
Under System, you can view the processor type and speed, as well as the number of processors installed, if your computer uses multiple processors.
Yet I see no mention of multiple processors there -- what am I missing?

    Hi -g,
all Windows Home versions (XP and Vista) only support one physical prcossor with multiple Cores.
Windows Professional versions (XP Professional and Vista Business+Ultimate) support two physical processor with multiple Cores each.

  • Can i install quad core processor on Macbook Pro 13"

    appreciate any feedback

Notebook CPUs are not user-upgradeable. They are soldered to the motherboard, not socketed. Furthermore, the firmware is not written to support a quad-core processor.
It would be less costly to sell your computer and buy a newer one with a quad-core processor. The new 15" Retina models both have quad-core processors.

You can write to Apple with the serial number and they can tell you exactly when your MacPro (as opposed to Mac Book Pro) was manufactured.
And in the Apple menu > about this Mac >  more info > there should be sufficient detail to narrow it down.
EDIT.  These are the specs for the      April 2007 version.

  • Quad-Core Processor useful for Lightroom?

    Hi
I need to upgrade my PC in a couple of months time and I was wondering if there is any merit in going for an Intel quad core processor. Intel are reportedly almost halving the price of the Q6600 to $266 on the 22nd of July.
Does anyone know if Lightroom can take advantage of all 4 cores? Or, am I better off getting a faster Dual Core processor for the same price?
    Regards, Nigel

I see that Jeff Schewe mentioned that he was getting a 2xQuad Core (Octa Core?) machine so there must be some benefit in more than 2 cores.

  • Is Quad-Core processors really worth it ?

I'm debating between the 13 inch MacBook Pro that has the dual core while the 15 inch MacBook Pro has a quad core, but I'm using this purely for school and video chat.
Do I really need a quad core for these things at the moment ?

Quad cores are the new benchline, even the new iPad has a quad core processor.
If you can take care of your machine and make it last for 4 years, want to play 3D games, then the 15"
If your not going ot play 3D games and will replace the machine in 2 years, light uses, then the 13"
If your rough on computers then buy a $400 Windows 7 PC instead

I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 with an AMD quad core processor and AMD E1-2100 APU with AMD Radeon HD 8210 Graphics Card. I have installed the latest driver version 13.152.0.0. When I activate puppet warp, the mesh appears over the image and I can place the first pin.  However, when I go to add the second pin, Photoshop crashes. I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

  • Error message after installing an AMD Phenom II quad core processor

    1. HP Pavilion Slimline s5120y Desktop PC
    2. Windows 7 64-bit
    3. "Uncompatible processor installed, shutting down in a few seconds"
    4. I replaced  the AMD Athlon X2 7750 processor with an AMD Phenom II quad core processor
I had done some research on upgrading my son's computer's processor from an AMD Athlon X2 7750 processor to an AMD Phenom II quad core processor.  I checked the compatible processors on the HP website and it showed that  the AMD Phenom II quad core processor would be supported.  The specs for the Phenom II I bought are: 95 watt / 2.4 GHz / quad core / hyper transport technology / AM2+ socket / integrated DDR memory controller / HD9750XAJ4BGH.
After installing the processor (with thermal paste) I booted up the computer and the message:  "Uncompatible processor installed, shutting down in a few seconds" showed up.  I tried again and the same thing.  Is this processor NOT compatible with this computer or is something else going on?

Please discuss this under desktop catagory for better suggestions and quicker resolution. thank you
