Upgrade for better rendering

Alright, I read everything I could and couldn't find anything specifically helping me figure out my situation. I recently got started using the Adobe suite and love it. I'm mostly using Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, Audition and After Effects for my projects right now. Most everything runs pretty well, except that After Effects is taking forever to render when using the ray-tracer. I figured it would take quite some time, but a 30-second project took 14 hours to render this week. Is that normal? It's also majorly impeding my editing ability because previewing is super slow. Premiere takes a while to encode as well, but nowhere near the time AE is taking.
Here's my question, given the below setup, what upgrades can I make to use these programs more efficiently, if any? Should I look at nVidia GPUs and install multiple cards on this motherboard or will my system even be able to take advantage of multiple GPUs in Adobe products with this setup? Do I simply have my AE settings configured wrong (quite likely)?
MB - Asus M5A97 R2.0
CPU - AMD FX8350
GPU - AMD Radeon R9 270x
16GB DDR3 Memory
Windows 8.1
Thanks for any advice you can give!

Hi Joey,
Most everything runs pretty well, except that After Effects is taking forever to render when using the ray-tracer.
This is a common issue. It is not recommended to use ray-traced 3D compositions any longer, especially if you do not have a qualified NVIDIA GPU (which you do not have).
Don't worry, though. Instead, look into using Cinema 4D Lite for your 3D needs, which is available from After Effects. Choose Layer > New > Maxon Cinema 4D file. If you do so, does Cinema 4D Lite launch? It should. Try it out.

Bigger, better, or more GPUs will not affect After Effects performance very much. After Effects is more dependent on CPU power and large amounts of RAM.

Just avoid ray-traced 3D compositions and you should be fine. You may want to familiarize yourself with After Effects, as well. Here's a great place to start: Getting started with After Effects (CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6, & CC) | After Effects region of interest

  • Upgrading for better gaming performance.

    Hey everyone,
I recently received this latop for Christmas. I really enjoy all around gaming from PC to Console. The problem that I am having is mostly on WoW. I ran the system via systemrequirementslab.com (the can you run this section) and it told me that I had the minimum requirements capable of running. For a few days it worked phenomenally but most recently the game slows to a crawl to the point that it takes 15+ minutes before I get two minutes of movement. Is there anything I can do to upgrade my laptop and run videogames better?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Not much you can do in terms of price/performance with the following specs:
       http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04430193&cc=ca&dlc=en&lc=es
HP has re-entered the gaming field with a new series of laptops called Omen. If you are a gamer, you may want to sell this machine and put more money to buy an Omen:

  • Hardware Upgrades for Shorter rendering times?

    Hello,
Im a visual artist looking for any help in hardware reccomendations.
Im trying to render a single image sized at 36 x 49 inches at 300dpi (image is 255.6m)
estimated render time is 14 days 3 hours 26 min
Any tips would be hugely appreciated! Im looking to upgrade asap.

That's not enough.  The Mac Pro has unprecedented memory bandwidth, but from only one processor package.  That's a severe limitation in my book.
I suggest instead you consider a dual-Xeon workstation configuration.  Apple doesn't offer that kind of compute power (yet) in the new cylindrical design.
Right now today you can get a Dell T5610 with e.g., dual Xeon E5-2650 processors.  That has a total of 16 cores in two packages.  It may be possible, through custom configuration, to have Dell build one with as many as 24 cores on tap (12 per package, with independent memory channels to each E5-2697 v2 package).  Having independent memory channels is the real advantage of having multiple packages.
I also noticed that the newest Intel Xeons have more QPI links - meaning one might expect to see 4 package designs built around, say, the 15 core E7-4890V2 within the next couple of years.

  • Which is better for 3D rendering

Hello everyone. I build a new computer. I want to work with 3d graphics. Can not decide which graphics card can handle better rendering. Decide between: HP Nvidia Quadro K4000 or GeForce GTX 780 Thank you for your help, Karči

What applications are you planning to work with? The Quadro K4000 is definitely not faster with rendering in general with GPU acceleration. It's actually not even close. The only time Quadro cards have any render advantage is when the Open GL plugins are utilized by an application. That is why the applications used can decide if a Quadro is better suited but that is when the specs are close with the cards. When they are vastly different such as this case then the Geforce card is still  the better option.

Mac or PC ? - I believe that Adobe switched the processing functions for 3D rendering in Photoshop CC to VRam.
To upgrade the Vram on my existing iMacs cost-effectively entails new upgraded iMacs.
So I am now needing to purchase new desktop computers for production purposes and seperately for an education institute - PC's or Macs?
Is this shift to Vram for image rendering affecting any processing functions of the other applications in the suite - the ones I use the most are Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, inDesign, & SoundBooth
I also use Strata 3D, Lightwave, Maya, Cinema 4D, Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro,
I will be using the suite in a Graphic design, Photography, Video editing / sound recording / editing (I am also a musician), animation and 3D context.

This forum is primarily for a few users like me to answer questions about installation, serial numbers and general issues regarding the Creative Suite. We don't have to expertise to answer questions like you're asking. Otherwise, few people visit this forum.
You'd do best to pick the forums of the applications you use the most, especially applications that test the limits of your computer (probably Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop) and ask in those forums.

I recommend you install nothing older than the Apple-firware 5770, about US$250.
RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

    Thank you very much!

    Hi:
The only way to upgrade the video card in your notebook is to replace the entire motherboard which would cost as much as buying a new notebook with better graphics.
If you had HP do the upgrade, it would probably cost more than buying 2 notebooks with better graphics than yours.

  • Video Card and PSU upgrade for HP pavilion p6310y?

    Hello,
I am a mild gamer and I would like to upgrade my video card so I could play games like minecraft and maplestory without my frame rate dropping every 5-10 min.  When this happens it sounds like the fan in my computer is working really hard and the game is almost unplayable.  I also play a few games from steam such as Gmod and Borderlands, however the games that seem less graphic intensive give me more problems.
Should I and am I able to upgrade the video card and psu for this HP pavilion p6310y?  or possibly get a better card for these game without upgrading psu?

    Hi,
Yuo might try updating the video driver from the NVIDIA web site.
Your PC has a 300 watt power supply.  If you don't need DirectX 11 (used for better detail in newer games), then the NVIDIA GT 240 1GB or 512 MB DDR5 is about tops for a 300 watt power supply.

  • Memory upgrade for KM3M-V mobo (aka MS 7061-01S)

Hi, this is my first post. I've read the guidelines and searched for an existing topic but can't find one that quite matches what I want to ask, so I'm posting a new topic - please forgive me I have erred!
I have a TIME Computers desktop (please don't ask why), mobo being a MSI KM3M-V (also known as MS7061-01S), which is based on VIA KM266 chipset.  CPU = Sempron 2400+.
I've just installed a new graphics card, an ATI All-in-Wonder 9200SE, with associated drivers and software including Catalyst (which menat I had to instal MS .net framework too).  This seems to be working OK but overall speed not great. (Also, for some reason I don't seem to be getting any sound at all, but I expect I can fix that with a bit of trail and error.)
My next step is to increase the memory. Existing memory installed is one 256MB UDIMM module, but I'm aiming to remove it and instal 2 x 1GB UDIMM modules, which I know the mobo can take.  Naturally I'm looking to get the maximum available performance (subject to stability considerations), so I'm looking to go for the highest bandwidth/speed the system can take.  This is where it gets tricky.  Having searched Crucial, Kingston and other memory configurators plus various other tech articles and indeed MSI's own website, I've reached the conclusion that I can select memory in PC2100/ 2700/ etc up to 4000 or even higher provided that the maximum memory chip size (density) does not exceed 128MB.
But I'm not sure about the speed limitation: is there any point in buying DIMMs capable of DDR333 or 400 - will my chipset limit the speed to 266MHz anyway?  I'll be grateful for any expert views.
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)

Thanks for the quick reply, Exo.  I agree with you 100% that it's best to go for (at least) PC3200 with a view to a likely future upgrade.  As I see it, it makes sense to go for the highest spec available at reasonable cost - so I would probably aim for PC4000 rather than 3200.  There doesn't seem to be any downside in doing so (provided one is happy to tweak the BIOS where necessary), and even the MSI MOBO spec seems to endorse this view - see bit picked out in red below:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=KM3M-V&class=mb
    Main Memory
      • Supports four memory banks by using two 184-pin DDR DIMMs
    • Supports a maximum memory size of 2GB.
    • Supports 2.5v DDR SDRAM DIMM
Due to the High Performance Memory design, motherboards or system configurations may or may not operate smoothly at the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) standard settings (BIOS Default on the motherboard) such as DDR voltage, memory speeds and memory timing. Please confirm and adjust your memory setting in the BIOS accordingly for better system stability.
    Example: Kingston HyperX DDR500 PC4000 operates at 2.65V, 3-4-4-8, CL=3.

Yes, there should have been either a firmware update/patch, or a full recall on this device.
The software setup and configuration is bad enough for one humble computer, but when used as
intended with multiple devices it's an absolute headache.
I am constantly having to unplug the printer because the machine has decided it needs to rest for a bit. Okay,
everybody deserves a break now and then. But it goes into coma mode and I could be jesus himself and the power
or any other button) still would not wake it.
I would get into the rest but I'm not getting a helpful vibe from the forum; it's more defensive of a product which, apparently just under 5000 people have come by to check on. My friend at Microsoft talked to an HP engineer, who
laughed and gave us the fix.
Uploading to FedEx-Kinko's is the better option.

  • Windows 8 upgrade for z560??

When is the upgrade for z560 laptops expected?

I don't think we're going to get any, although I keep checking back to the drivers page and here to see if there are any changes.  The compatibility page doesn't list the z560 as being compatible, but it doesn't list it as being not compatible either.
I clean installed Windows 8 Pro from the retail box I purchased and added the Windows Media Center free upgrade to it.  I've found that as long as we install a few drivers on our own the z560 is absolutely compatible.
I needed the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers, the Nvidia drivers (which include their HDMI HD Audio driver) since I have the model with the Nvidia graphics, the Synapic touchpad driver, the Lenovo Power Management software for Windows 8 (with some files patched over from the Windows 7 version), and the Lenovo YouCam software from Windows 7 (which includes a couple of webcam related drivers that eliminate an unknown device from the Windows 8 Device Manager.)
I got all that stuff from the separate manufacturers websites.  The only thing we miss is One Key Theatre.  Don't bother installing that or any of the other software or drivers from the Lenovo download page as they either don't work if they install, don't install,. or destabalize the system once installed.
    http://www.alltechtalk.net/forum/thread-fix-lenovo-ideapad-s-touch-sensitive-buttons-on-windows-8
That link is to the instructions regarding the Lenovo Power Management software.  It'll get most of our keyboard buttons working.  The high speed dust blowout fan works with the keyboard button but not from the icon in the new software.  But I found that the software is doing the job of managing the battery just fine.
When you start the Lenovo/Cyberlink YouCam software it'll offer an update to 3.1 and also an offer to upgrade to a newer version.  The Lenovo update is all we need.  It's the free one.
I tried several conexant audio updates.  None work so don't bother.  Microsoft's driver runs the audio fine and if you really want something like the dolby headphone or bass boost stuff their driver has similar sounding features built in to their audio panel speaker properties.  Now, the Windows 7 Lenovo/Conexant driver will install but the on by default dolby enhancements make Windows report that its interfering with things and offers to turn them off.   So it's really not compatible.  None of the newer Conexant Lenovo Windows 8 offerings for their other laptops even with the same chipset are compatible even if one forces a manual install.  They'll crash Windows so don't do it!
The Synaptic driver is actually terrific.  It lets you take advantage of the Windows 8 swiping stuff.  I changed the 2 finger verticle scroll back to the right edge scroll, and bottom edge for horizontal.  That just feels more comfortable on the z560 touchpad.  The Lenovo Windows 8 driver is older than the new and improved one on the Synapic website, which works better.
Okay, the One Key Recovery is also a non-starter unless you set it up as described on another post at the alltechtalk forum.  But i didn't bother because Windows 8 now comes with its own recovery stuff built in.
If you want to upgrade you should uninstall all the stuff listed on Lenovo's Windows 8 Ideapad compatibility page.  But really, just tell the Windows installer to clean install.  You'll be happier.

  • Scared to upgrade to Tiger; will I have to purchase upgrades for my apps?

    Hi,
I have been looking for info on application support for Tiger, and I am either looking in the wrong place or it does not exist, because have searched and have not found a definitive answer.
I work in the video industry and I have spent a lot of money on programs that I use all the time in my G4 PowerMac running 10.3.9.
    I have:
    Final Cut Pro HD;
    DVD STudio Pro 3;
    Adobe Photoshop CS
    Macromedia Dreamweaver MX
Also, I have an old scanner that I love that DOES have support for OSX, but not Tiger specifically.
I am wondering if any or all of these apps work as is in Tiger or am I going to have to purchase upgrades for these programs to work with Tiger. Is there any where I can look up specific support issues for my apps before I upgrade and find out, "oops, that don't work here."
I was content to stay in Panther since why "fix what ain't broken", as they say, but I do feel I am getting left behind. All MAC mags I use to love to read for tips and tricks now only pertain to Tiger and widgets and spotlight look super cool.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    G4 PowerMac MDD 1.25 Ghz DP; 17 PowerBook G4 1.33 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Your apps are all going to work just fine. The scanner? Check for an update to the software. Probably be just fine.
Here's the thing, though. it sounds like you do not have a backup on an external. If not, all bets are off. You are jumping with no net. Good luck.
