Upgrade forms 3.0 to 4.5 (Character Mode)

Our group is doing this conversion because v4.5 is Y2K compliant.
The forms will still be run on the server because a) it's faster,
and b) user PC's don't have to be upgraded.
The following problems have occurred:
1. Canvas-views are not big enough to display all items.
Thus, they are not assigned a canvas.
2. Areas of the screen that have lines and boilerplate
text, do not display correctly.
Problem 1. is easily fixed by increasing the canvas size and then
reassigning the item to it. Although it would be nice to
automate the process!
Problem 2. is a pain in the "A$%#&" because of the volume. It
will take a long time to adjust the layout of every screen. Is
there a shortcut for this?

Migration from Character Mode Forms 4 - 6

I'm currently using Pre-Developer 2000, Some Oracle Forms 4 through 6. All in character mode for RF (radio frequency) devices in a warehouse. I'm concerned about migration. I've read that the new forms, post 6i releases will not support character mode. What would be the best migration strategy to move forward? The devices only work for character mode, NO GUI.

You are correct in that Oracle 9i Forms is a GUI Web only release.
Forms 6i still supports chrarcter mode runtime and will be supported and patched through 2006 with extended support through 2008.
This gives you 7 years to figure out an upgrade stategy, hopefully that gives you enough time.

Rep-3002 while calling report from form in character mode on web environment

When I call a report by using run_product from a form , i get rep-3002. my report is in character mode. if i change it to bitmap that works fine. but my requirement is of character mode on web environment.
please help.

If you are running in WinNT/2000 environment, the NT/2000 user which runs the Report Server service must have a printer defined. In the control panel, look at the properties for the Report Server to see what user it runs as. Log in as that user and make sure a default printer is defined.

My HP ProBook 440 G2, Finger print reader not working when I upgraded form Win 7 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro.
In device manager showing that biometric reader is working properly. But actually the finger printer reader is not reading or senseing. It seems like "dummy" part. Please help me to correctly configure step by step for this issue.

Upgrade forms on upgrading DB from 9i to 10g

Per your update, developer 6i with patchset earlier than 17 should not be used with 10g but developer 6i with latest patchset at least 17 could be used...Correct, because developer 6i patchsets earlier than 17 are not certified.

Yes, you can. Please note the latest developer 6i patchset which is certified with Oracle Apps 11i is patchset 19 (Patch 6194129).

For out of sync issues, which most likely are due to time changes or NTP sync issues, you must correct the system time and perform a manual sync up through the UI.
For certificate expiry issues, you must install a valid certificate and perform a manual sync up through the UI.
For a node that has been down for more than six hours, you must restart the node, check for connectivity issues, and perform a manual sync up through the UI.

Upgrade Forms from 9.0.4 to 10.1.2

I'm trying to determine the steps required to upgrade forms from 9.0.4 to 10.1.2 (OAS 10gR1 to OAS 10gR2). Is it just a simple: "open in 10.1.2, compile, save, close" for each form?

Upgrading form 5.0.6.18.1 TO 6i

Hello All,
Our current Oracle forms 5.0.6.18.1 are existing on NT 4.0 Server.
Now direct support of NT 4.0 is closed.
I have moved all Oracle forms (fmx & fmb ) to window XP.
Now I need to upgrade Oracle forms 5.0 to 10g.
Direct support for 10g is not available for this upgrade.
So I need to upgrade forms 5.0 to 6i first and then from 6i to 10g.
I moved all fmbs & fmx to windows XP but I do not have form builder 5.0.6.18.1.
Can I just install form builder 6i and start upgrade?
Can any one give me some kind of summary or direct me any good documentation to acheive my goals?

I am upgrading Oracle forms 5.0.6.18.1 to Oracle Forms 6i on different OS.
* Forms 5.0 are installed on NT.4.
* I have installed Oracle Forms 6i developer suite on my new Windows XP machine.
I have copied all fmbs & rdf from windows NT to Window XP.
I have downloaded p3596539_600_WINNT.zip.

Now I want to run following recommended patch.
You can see setup.exe file under p3596539.
I have open or double click on setup.exe file.
I got message as follows:

If I clicks on run.
Nothing action incurred.
Am I missing some thing?
Please suggest me from your experience.

Forms 6 installation wont disturb your database. Install forms 6 in new home. Just recompile forms and libraries in forms 6 builder.
I think your database and forms developer are on same machine. If you are worried, you can take a backup of your database before installation.

Run Character mode reports in Menu/forms.

we are using ora-dev-suite 10g and trying to Run Character mode reports in Menu/forms and output ascii text or pdf files generated and saved in local/client PC's.
report when run through report builder, it is ok.
But we are not able to run these reports through menus/forms. can we run these reports using background report engine on a click of button.

You can put a variable in your default.env file like SERVER_URL http://<yourserver>:<yourport> and then retrieve it in forms with the tool_env.getvar package

web.show_document(v_server_url||'/reports/rwservlet?yourparameters.....');
end;So if you deploy your form in server 1 or 2 you only have to change the value in the default.env file according to the server you use.

i tried for upgrading form 3.0 to form 6i , even to form 4.5 but , not succied ,for 4.5 i am getting an error "Invalied input at line one" and could not "open the file" .please guide me for that. i tried alll the parameters and options related to that.

I have migrated a 7.3 database to 8i on an IBM RS-6000, AIX vs.
4.3. We will be running developer 2000 and the newest version
of reports off of a windows 95 box. What do we need to do to
get the old character-mode forms converted to the GUI that
Dev2000 produces now? Will they just port over? Do I need to
compile them into a repository? (I have experience with
Designer2000 but not developer). Thanks for any help you can
give me.

If you use developer2000 2.0 or 2.1 on 95/NT platform,the
convrter program (.inp to .fmb) is: F50GEN32.exe.

Please verify that you have completed all the steps in the Developer 6i upgrade doc. Also, please post the complete error message.
Have you tried to regenerate the forms via adadmin and see if it helps?
If none of the above helps, please obtain the FRD file as per (Note: 150168.1 - Obtaining Forms Runtime Diagnostics (FRD) In Oracle Applications 11i) and post the contents of the log file here.
