Upgrade from 2GB to 3GB for under $385?

Finding 2GB SO-DIMM packages to upgrade my C2D MBP seems to be a costly endeavor. The Crucial RAM costs $350 ($385 with tax). I found some less expensive modules at various online stores, but none were in stock. Can any recommend a less pricey part from a reputable reseller?

I just did my Crucial RAM upgrade today, $399 CDN (US$325) minus $140 CDN for the trade-in. I paid $140 for the RAM when I bought the macBook from him so I got 100% back on what I paid. RAM is certainly reusable. I have doubts about RAM for $100 under market prices. Maybe that price is net of the rebate at OWC? Crucial in the US is not selling 2GB for $450 either.

  • Do I need matching RAM in each slot when upgrading from 2GB to 3GB?

    Hi there,
I am looking to upgrade my RAM (see my computer specs below). My MBP has 2x1GB sticks installed. The limit on my machine is 3GB so I only need to replace one of the slots with a 2GB stick. However I've heard that it's recommended to get all the RAM from the same supplier - is that right? Meaning am I better off buying a 3GB kit? I was thinking of purchasing OWC or Crucial brand. Any other recommendations between the two brands?
    Here are my specs:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP22.00A5.B07
    Thank you in advance!
    Supriya

Note that you can install 2 x 2 GB sticks. That will give you the (marginal) benefit of a matched pair. Your machine will report in About this Mac that you have 4 GB installed - in fact, your system will only use ~3.2 GB of the RAM (a little more than the 3 GB 'stated' max, but not the full amount installed).
Several months ago, this clearly wasn't worth it - but the price of a pair of 2 GB sticks has come down sufficiently that you may consider that option.

I don't listen to downloaded MP3 very often. I tend to use only a couple of the EAX modes, Rock, Dance, and Heavy Metal the most. Thought XtremeMusic is yet much better card vs Audigy 2, but with that cost, I would rather get one of these
    cards w/o EAX :
    E-MU 0404 (~99$)
    ESI Juli@(~30$)
    ECHO Mia MIDI (~30$)
    or
    cards w/ EAX :
    M-Audio Revolution 5. (~75$) or 7. (~00$)
Audiotrak Prodigy LT (~80$) (or wait for Prodigy XT which is coming out ~3/06)
    HDA Digital X-Mystique 7. Gold/ Dolby Digital Li've (~95$)

  • Upgraded from 2gb to 4gb of RAM and now my Imac freezes up all the time.

I have a 2009 model Imac and I upgraded from 2gb to 4gb but now after about 20 minutes of the computer being on it will freeze up randomly. It could be 20 mins - 3 hours of use before it freezes up. I did my research and I'm didn't get any RAM my Imac couldn't handle...so I have NO idea what's wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As old as it is have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...

  • Photoshop CS6 upgrade from CS4 continually asks for serial number.

I purchased an upgrade from Photoshop CS 4 to Photoshop CS 6 directly from Adobe in December of 2012. (My version of CS4 was originally purchased by me as part of a CS4 Web Premium Suite.)
My CS4 version has worked since 2009 with no licensing issues.
I did not install the upgradeto CS6  immediately, I just installed it in August of this year, but I do not think that the problem stems from my delay in installation.
What happens is that every 6-8 times that I open the program, I get a screen asking me to "License Creative Cloud", which I do NOT want.
The only options I am given are: Join Now, License This Product, or Continue Trial.
If I simply X out of the screen, Photoshop CS6 will not open at all.
If I click: License This Product, I get a sign-in screen that asks for my serial number, which I fill in and then my program opens.
I have tried customer support 3 times - one chat and 2 phone calls (all lasting at least 1 hour each time) and I am not getting the correct help to solve this issue.
I am extremely frustrated and outraged that I am bothered by this stupid issue.
Please help me to stop this screen about Creative Cloud from appearing and from having to constantly input my serial number.

  • How to upgrade from 10.3.9 for 8GB IPOD Nano(requires mac OSX v 10.4.11 or

I want to download itunes onto my new ipodnano 8 GB.I have 10.3.9 and how do I upgrade to the best version for this? It is frustrating to have to keep paying.

Here's the requirements for both OSs. In reality you need at least 2 times the minimum RAM specified.
    *OS X 10.4 Tiger Requirements*
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301341
    *OS X 10.5 Leopard Requirements*
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/
Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.
Also check this web store http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521
Possible Alternative if you are currently using Panther 10.3 – Do a Google search for Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD . It will upgrade your 10.3 to 10.4, but it doesn’t contain the full retail Tiger installer. Should be cheaper than the retail Tiger install DVD.
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Look at this link Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Installing Software Support Page
    http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/install/
You can also download the Tiger Installation and Setup Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/TigerInstall_SetupGuide.pdf
When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.

  • Portege M200 Upgraded from 1GB to 3GB memory - pc won't start

    Hi,
I bought a Toshiba M200 with 1GB memory. I had a problem with slow and freezing applications so I decided to add 2GB more of RAM.
The vendor where I bought my laptop told me that it's max capacity is upto 4GB. I just would like to ask if that's true?
Another is, what could be the reason why it won't start up if it can be upgraded to upto 4GB? Would I need a BIOS update or is it the RAM I bought which has compatibility issue.
Another point though, the 2GB that I bought works perfect when inserted but when it is inserted together with the 1GB RAM, that's the time when my laptop won't start up.
Both are KVR667D2S5 Kingston. Don't know if that would help.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I can't find the specs for PSMC0L-02100C in google so I can't determine the Max RAM capacity.
You should try contacting Toshiba Singapore for the max amount of RAM that model can handle - it may only be 2GB max.
Sometimes 3GB can work in a 2GB-max laptop (when the 2GB module is in slot 1), but it may be unstable or cause problems.

  • RAM Upgrade from 2GB to 4GB -- Lots of questions...

I have a MacPro with the two dual core processors. It has 2GB of RAM in the form of four 512GB 667MHz RAM chips.
I want to double my RAM to 4GB, and I wonder what's the best way to do that?
If I double the existing RAM, that would mean 4 more 512GB RAM chips, all running at 667MHz. That would use ALL my chip slots, so that's the most RAM I'd be able to have in that configuration.
So.. why not pull ALL the 512s and replace them with, say, 2 2GB chips? If I do that, could I not also upgrade to 800MHz chips? Is there any reason that 800 MHz chips would be incompatible with my MacPro?
I'm a bit skittish about hardware upgrades, so if anybody's got any suggestions for a resource that can guide me through the process, that would be helpful, too. I'm always afraid I'm gonna bust a pin somewhere and destroy the computer.
    Thanks,
    --PS

4gb of ram isn't really that much. you can add four 512 but you may want more ram at a later time. if you are sure you won't, then go for it. RAM is best adding in groups of 4, but has to be in sets of 2. I would add four 1gb of ram. There are diagrams you can search out to show how to most effectively and properly install it. That would give you 6 gb and that's a pretty decent number for most people. You could add two 2gb. It's not the most efficient method and would not sqeeze every bit of speed from the ram but it would leave two slots open for further upgrading if you so wished. If you aren't a Photoshop person or Final Cut Pro or other heavy user, and just use one application at a time, 4gb is probably adequate. RAM is inexpensive enough for most people with a macpro that going for four x 1gb and moving to 6 is my recommendation. If you do use two x2gb there is no need to remove the 512s other than to possibly move them. dunno about the 800MHz chips. I think you can use them but don't need them and won't make use of the added speed. I'd use all of the same type of RAM just to be cautious.

  • Upgrade from SP14 to SP24 for EP 7.0

    Hi All,
We need to upgrade EP 7.0 SP 14 to SP 24 and back-end database from Oracle to MaxDB. Could you please let me know what are the steps I need to follow while upgrading.
I want to move the KM content once migration is done, could you please tell me the list of issues that one should take care at the time of migrating, transporting the content, and from upgrading Oracle database to MaxDB?.
    Regards

    Hi,
For patching the EP system from 14 to 24, you need to download the Support Paackages using SolMan - MOPZ feature. Once this is done, using JSPM tool, the system can be patched. Details can be got at http://service.sap.com/instguides -> SAP Netweaver-> SAP Netweaver 2004s -> Maintainence -> SP guides

  • FCP Upgrade from FCS to cater for QT7.6

I'm in the UK using PAL
I've dropped a clanger recently and uprated to QT7.6 from 7.2 and can no longer log and capture any stuff from video tapes (analogue) yet I have a local demand for quite a lot of transferring from tapes still to be done. QT7.6 is the culprit. I can't get rid of it to downgrade. If I can move up instead and once again log and capture analogue it's the way for me to go. If I upgrade my FCP 5.1.4, wiil l then be able to use my analogue log and capture for editing purposes again?
I was gong to trash everything and re-install but if I can gain everything back by upgrading, I'll do it that way. I'm already furious at being seemingly cheated by Apple in obeying its advising all QT7 users to uprate to 7.6 and don't wish to further aggravate my problem with yet more errors ....
Anyone using a higher grade of FCP and also doing log and capture of analogue stuff. All help needed here. Ta!

**** - **** - **** ... I erased everything and reinstalled OSX then tried to install my Final Cut Studio upgrade. It wouldn't accept it for installing without the serial numbers of the previous FCPs (1,2 and 3) that I USED to have but which disappeared in the direction of a grandson ... The grand idea was to in any case re-install the FCS from the Lacie but it won't go. Just flashes to indicate beginning to open up but that's all. I realise that I should perhaps have reinstalled the FCS without installing OSX first, it having OS 4.7 which installed earlier, albeit without wroking properly.
What a mess I'm having with Mail, too! I've gone onto Virgin.net and am using its mail facility in the absence of the Mac one which which incessantly asks for a proper pasword. At the moment, Apple is definitelyout of favour!
I can get FCP 5.1.4 to make a showing within the Lacie but it won't operate in the fresh set-up I've done on my startup drive - and of course, it is suffering from not being able to log and capture analogue stuff, the reason for all this mess in the first place.
Help if possible would be most appreciated.

I have the new 1.83 gig mac mini and attempting to upgrade ram. Once opened, the ram slots are not easily available, unlike the older versions where you just snap it when the cover is removed. Is there any video instructions out there? The one I found on some threads is for the older versions. Thanks

it is fairly simple once you have the case open there is 4 screws take them out to remove the cd drive and it flips up and back then u will see the ram.
two things to remeber the fan cable in the front (Small black looks like a jumper with wires) make sure to put that back on.
