Upgrade from AMEX PRG to Platinum? What About Bonus Points?

I just got my PRG in May and my first statement just posted. I went to the Amex upgrade site and its offering the Platinum charge card. Does this mean I'm eligible to upgrade to the platinum ?? I remember reading that you had to have your card for 12 month's before you could upgrade. Has this since changed ?? Lastly, I haven't completed my 2K spend requirement for the PRG bonus of 50K points. I only need to spend about $200. more to reach it. Will I lose my 50K bonus points if I upgrade, either now before I reach my spend requirement or after I reach it ?? Thanks !!! (Mod edit--We created a new thread for your topic and updated the subject line, due to the age of the original thread which had your response)

Just means the button showed up. It's essentially like an application to upgrade (no hard pull) but they can say no.

  • Upgrade from 10.6.8 to what? Turbo Tax 2014 forcing the issue.(MacPro 2009)

It's time to upgrade from 10.6.8 to what?  Turbo Tax 2014 is forcing the issue.   Go up incrementally or just to 10.7? 10.8? (MacPro 2009)

I have this question, too.  I was advised by someone at Mac App store to purchase OS Lion 10.7 for $ 19.99 which I did.  Only to find out after the purchase and download that I only had 1 GB and needed at least 2  to use Lion.  Now Apple refuses to credit my account for the $19.99 charge sending me some sort of coupon, but cannot be used to purchase the  ram needed for my IMac. nor when I do increase the ram, I would not be able to re-purchase Lion.
I was wondering about Maverick or Yosemite on the older IMac. They are free. Don't understand why the older versions are not free, also.  I have Yosemite on my MacBook Pro and like it very much.

  • Upgrade from AMEX Delta Gold to Platinum?

So I'm preapproved for an upgrade from the Gold Delta AMEX to the Platinum.  I can't tell too much difference in the rewards other than the Gold has a $99 Companion Ticket and the Platinum has the annual Companion Certificate.  I fly Delta a good deal and they are my rewards card of choice.  This deal also gives 15K miles and 5K MQM after the first purchase.  The difference in the AF is from $90 for the Gold to $150 for the Platinum.  There is also a spending bonus on the Platinum which I will probably not reach. All in all, it sounds okay.  Nothing great, but nothing lost either.  Any way you look at it I will get the AF back through the Companion Certificate and do even better when you add in the miles earned. Any comments?  Anyone have any experience with this upgrade? Thanks for your thoughts.

Its really not hard to get approved for a charge card. Personally unless you travel enough to make the airport lounge perk a value worth $400,  The Premier Rewards Gold with polnt multipliers and your first year of AF waived,  The main reason to just add another card instead of upgrading is  the free backdating goodness.

  • Reason to have both AMEX PRG and Platinum

I currently have the AMEX PRG. I have seen a few people on here have both cards. What are the advantages to having both? Should I apply for the AMEX Platinum or should I wait and just upgrade my PRG to the platinum once my year is up?

Plat is a perks card. The point earning sucks besides the signup bonus so a lot of holders don't even swipe it, except for hotel or flight upgrade opportunities. PRG is a points card with an emphasis on travel. EDP is a points card with an emphasis on gas/groceries/nonbons spend. Generally only one is recommended because they both have AF and overlap.  Platinum+prg or platinum+edp are good combos then for points and perks.

  • About to move from XP to Windows 7 - what about iTunes Library

    Hi,
Shortly I will be wiping XP from my PC and doing a new install (not upgrade) of Windows 7.
What do I need to do regards saving my iTunes Library and then Importing into W7.
Probably a tutorial somewhere but haven't found it yet.
    Thanks.

There are some drawbacks, running Windows 7 (only) on a Mac via Bootcamp yields less than stellar results, especially with the Retina display.
And of your traveling, the Mac's high power needs (especially the Retina display) and lack of removable battery are going to be a serious issue. The Retina display is glossy, not ideal for viewing on the road and in varied environments.
CS4 won't run on the OS X version that comes with a Mac, so your looking at purchasing CS6.
Support for Windows is more widespread than for Mac's, also if you ever need to redownload OS X to fix a issue, requires a fast reliable Internet connection of the broadband kind.
If your running Windows on your Mac, you can expect to be on your own and not get support as easily as if you were running it on a regular PC.
If you can't afford to keep up with CS upgrades, then you shouldn't be considering a Mac because there are more paid upgrades on that than on Windows 7, it's like a annual nightmare.
IMMO your still better off on a decent,  1920 x 1080 res, matte screen, removable battery (with extras), Win 7 Pro i7 machine (Pro+ runs XP programs) which will stay like it is and get security updates until 2020.
OS X changes every year and if you don't upgrade, + all your third party software, then about 3 years later your left behind for updates.
Also you will have to buy Win 7 to run on your Mac, the OEM disks won't work.
If your trying to budget, then a Mac is certainly not for you.

  • Upgrade from HTC Incredible to.. what?

I have an HTC Droid Incredible that I've had since.. oh.. the first weekend it came out. I absolutely love it, in theory. It's getting a little glitchy (restarting itself, changing screens a lot, etc) but in general it's still a good phone (minus the battery life - I can't get a full day out of it).
I'm up for an upgrade at the end of this month and am stuck with what to upgrade to. I am normally an Apple person - I have a MacBook Pro, an iMac, two iPods, two iPads, and my husband has an iPhone -- but there are things I worry I won't like about the iPhone, namely:
-no intrinsic G-chat application (and I use gmail talk all the time)
-the Android is built for gmail, which is awesome, as it's my primary email account
-no automatic upload to Facebook/twitter/etc when photos are taken (as opposed to going into FB)
-no "menu" button - I hate the single button when I play around on my husband's iphone
Everyone else though says "oh, get the iPhone!". But it still seems to me like Android is better?
What would YOU recommend I upgrade to? I don't get the point of the 4g - I don't use my phone as a phone that often. What's the point?
I think HTC has the Rezound, but I also don't use my phone as a music player (I'm a runner so I use a cheap shuffle so that I can replace it if it gets wet, etc)
What I like about my phone:
    -turn by turn directions
    -google intelligent
    -gmail chat
-camera (though I'd like two-way/front-facing, which incredible doesn't have)
    -good web browsing
-flawlessly brings 3 other email addresses (on top of my gmail one) to my phone
    thoughts?

Basically any Android phone will have the features you are looking for and, even if you go to a 4G phone, your data plan won't change.  There is the Incredible 2, which is basically an updated version of the Incredible (my wife currently has that and really likes it) or, as Ann154 suggested, the Rezound is a good 4G HTC phone (that's the one I have and love it), so it will feel very familiar as well.  If you are concerned about keeping up with the latest OS version, the Rezound will probably have that a little longer than the Incredible 2, and the Rezound has a bigger, HD screen, as well as a faster processor, but of course is bigger and quite a bit thicker.  I would suggest, if you are not totally sure, going into a store and playing around with a few different phones to see which one you like and what feels comfortable in your hand.

  • If I upgrade from iMovie08 to iMovie 11 what will happen to my already existing iMovie projects?

I need to create a final prodcut for a grad school class and I would like to use some of the features on iMovie 11. I, however, already have begun creating some video clips. I want to know what will happen to my existing projects that are not yet published when I upgrade from iMovie08 to iMovie11. Thanks!

iM11 doesn't hurt your older projects, nor events.
keep in mind: iM11 Projects are not compatible with iM09

  • Upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard - What Disk is Necessary?

I wish to upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.X. My dad owns a 10.6 iMac, and still has the installation disk. Will that work, or do I need to go out and buy that $30 disk specifically for upgrading? Also, more importantly, am I going to need to format? I don't plan on backing anything up. Ultimate question: Will the disk that came with the 10.6 mac allow me to upgrade, while keeping all my files?

Nothing is for sure, but many people expect that things will start coming together after the 2011 WWDC:
"Join us for a preview of the future of iOS and Mac OS X. June 6-10. San Francisco. Moscone West."

  • Upgrading from Aperture 2-3. What happens to referenced images?

I'm upgrading from Aperture 2 to 3. I have referenced images on some external hard drives. Will my referenced images be okay and still read correctly from my HD if I upgrade?

    Hi
I had no problems it retained the Referenced File location info you will have to ensure the externals connected.
If they are not linked as indicated by a red line through the referenced file icon bottom RH corner
Select the images that need reconnecting and then go to File / Locate Referenced Files
You will get a dialogue box which enables you to find the Referenced File/s then click Reconnect or Reconnect All
I just had to do it because I renamed an external drive
    Hope this helps

  • Upgrade from PageMaker to InDesign. What version is best and will old serial number work?

I'd like to upgrade from PageMaker 6.5 to InDesign. Should I wait for InDesign C S5. Will InDesign C S5 support PageMaker? Or should I upgrade to InDesign C S4? And if I have an old serial number for PageMaker 6.5, how can I complete the upgrade? I understand the older PageMaker serial numbers are no longer recognized.

I understand that Adobe is already selling InDesign CS5 and therefore you would have no choice if you want to upgrade. I would think that the easiest way of finding if your PM serial number applies for an upgrade is to try buying an upgrade. You don't need to complete the purchase if you don't want to.

  • Should I upgrade to a MBP? and what about these crashes?

Right, so I bought a macbook about a week ago, and I'm just not sure if I should upgrade to a MB Pro or not?
I'm not a huge gamer, the only game I can think of playing on XP is Flight Simulator X, which does need a good video card, but I haven't played any games for 6 months or so, so I don't think that justifies getting a MBP.
Other than that, how is XP performance on the Core 2 Duo macbook? Does the integrated graphics cause problems? I suppose it is just like any XP laptop you can buy nowadays, as most of them also come with integrated graphics.
The only thing that does make me feel like getting a MBP, however, is that this thing is a bit too happy to ramp up the fans sometimes. I'm thinking this is because of the integrated graphics? Am I wrong about this? I noticed that the fan came on easily in the following scenarios:
    1. Playing Macbreak Weekly H.264 video podcast fullscreen within iTunes 7. If not fullscreen, the fan doesn't come on. BTW, I noticed VLC plays this a lot smoother than iTunes. I don't know if VLC makes the fans come on though.
    2. Running iEatBrainz (a rosetta version). the fan came on while it was scanning my music collection, maybe this isn't related to integrated graphics?
    3. Playing an HD trailer, the fans come on. If this is due to integrated graphics then isn't this a future problem when there will be more HD around to play? the fan coming on all the time will be very annoying. I'm not really going to be playing heavy HD anytime soon though, but in the future it might be an issue.
Two other separate problems I hope you guys can help me with:
    Problem 1:
It has crashed 3 times in the past week.
Crash 1: I think this was due to VirtueDesktops and trying to use an external display at the same time. Basically the WindowServer crashed and I lost the Apple menu and right-side clock and stuff. The dock was there and I could click on icons but nothing would launch. I had to force a shutdown by holding down the power button.
Crash 2: Once again I think this is due to the external display. I was connected to the external display when I put the computer to sleep and it hung, the display was still on the external monitor but I couldn't click on any menus or dock so I had to force shutdown.
Crash 3: Just 2 days ago I disconnected from the external display and was using it on the couch when I closed the lid because I had something to do and as i walked away I heard the startup apple sound! It had restarted just because I closed the lid! That was really odd.
Before I close this problem off, though I must add that I initially used this laptop w/o an external display and keyboard+mouse for 3 days straight without any problems. I also did a hardware test (extended) and everything is fine. So I think 10.4.8 and external display + USB might be broken?
Just in case, I have reinstalled the whole OS a day ago and so far with multiple sleep cycles and doing normal work (not connected to external stuff) it is just fine so I don't think there is a hardware issue.
    Problem 2:
The other problem with the Macbook is that the button on the trackpad is just slightly sort of off-balance? I can make it move forward/backward vertically if I trace my finger vertically across it, is this normal? Sometimes if I click on the left hand side, it sort of gets stuck but immediately comes back up, so it's not a huge problem but annoying nonetheless. Does this warrant me getting a replacement unit? Could the button just stop working in the future, and then they have to replace the whole top casing don't they? Note that this happens only sometimes, and is hard to reproduce if I try to do it manually, it just happens *once in a while* but the button does work properly and everything and the right side of the trackpad is just fine.
Other than this the laptop is fine, and I simply don't have the budget to pay for a MBP right now but I've been waiting to get a mac for so long now that I just don't want to return this and wait a few more months ...
White 2.0 Ghz Macbook Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

you are right, the macbook has endured multiple sleep/wake cycles now, and i finally plugged in a USB mouse yesterday and it still seems fine. The touchpad button is still a little loose however.
As for the extended test, I did that and there are no problems, so what do I do now?
I have decided against upgrading for now, and I don't want to go to the hassle of taking it all the way down to the apple store, but even more stories today of macbook cases slightly warped after time and cracks appearing also scare me, how common is this? Or is it just careless users who might have dropped the macbook?
If this case bending or warping or cracking and ramping up fans is common, I might as well save all my money and return it. I don't want to argue with Apple later on about fixing things, I've read horror stories there as well ...
and yes, I'm in a forum where people only post problems but there seems to be too many, or am I wrong?

  • Want to upgrade from iMovie to FCE. What will be the difference?

I am currently working through hours of DV footage from my camcorder using my Macbook and iMovie. Although I have been pleased with the results I know now that I want to upgrade to both a better computer and to Final Cut Express. I have also been considering going the full way to Final Cut 2 but as this is a lot more money I am wondering whether the upgrade to FCE will be enough. What extra do you get with FCE over iMovie and what more will it allow me to do. I have been pretty amazed at how good iMovie is at a consumer level so would expect FCE to allow me to be even more creative but am not sure exactly how. Is the upgrade enough or would FC2 be a better option. I will not be needing to make broadcast or professional productions, just do a good job at a serious amateur level. I do not need to use a lot of effects but I do want to be able to add good soundtracks and transitions. The audio is an important part of my movies.
    thanks

Brilliant..just what I wanted. Thanks. Looks like I will need to read up on some of the terminology to get a good idea of what each feature before buying but thats a great table.

  • Switching from PC laptop to MacBook--what about iTunes and iPod

I've been using a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop for a couple of years, and have an iTunes account and a 60G iPod video set up to sync with it.
But now I'm getting a MacBook laptop and will get rid of the PC laptop.
    Big questions loom:
    - I set my iPod up for Windows. How do I change the setup to Mac?
    - How do I move my iTunes library from the PC to the Mac?
    - What else do I need to know?
    Thanks!

When you connect your iPod to the new MacBook it won't automatically erase it. Instead you'll be told the iPod is synced to a different computer and ask if you want to sync it to the MacBook. Click on cancel. Your iPod isn't erased.
Now head over to your favorite download site versiontracker.com is good and search on 'iPod'. You'll find several freeware and shareware programs that'll transfer your songs to the MacBook. Use one.

  • Upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard, what happens with iTunes and iPhoto?

OKay, I picked up a Mac Boxed Set this weekend and I want to do the upgrade, with a clean install. Since I have never done this before, I don't know how it works. I plan to make a bootable backup onto a USB drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, and then transfer those settings back to my iMac once Snow Leopard is installed, but will that include all of my iTunes and iPhoto content? If anyone can let me know how that works I would appreciate it! THanks!
    Branden

iTunes is updated to the version on the Snow Leopard installer disc. Nothing happens to iPhoto as it's part of iLife, not OS X.
If you erase the target drive then install Snow Leopard, you can use Migration Assistant to migrate your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and network settings from your bootable backup.
