Upgrade from ESS 60.2 to ESS1.0

Hello everyone,
we are running the business package for ESS 60.2 on EP7.0 (backend mySAP ERP 2004).
We want to upgrade to mySAP ERP 2005. Therefore we want to install the business package for ESS 1.0.
So far so good.
<b><u>Question:</u></b>
What will happen to the existing BP 60.2 after the deployment of the BP ESS 1.0?
How does this effect the delta links which exist to the standard ESS-Roles and ESS-IViews?
Can I run both BP 60.2 and BP 1.0 parallelly?

I believe that the names of the roles and iviews are all slightly different. As a test though if you get a portal without your current ess / mss installed and import ESS 1.0 and see where it imports.
If it helps, it imports into:
ESS imports into Content Provided by SAP -> End User Content -> Employee Self Service.
MSS imports into Content Provided by SAP -> line_manager -> Manager Self Service.
Also required is BP for Common Parts which imports into Content Provided by SAP -> End User Content -> Common Parts ERP.
So if those folders do not exist, then just import it.
Your existing 60.2 content will stay there unless you delete it (or is in the above folders).

Dear Experts,
      I have EP 7.0 and ECC 6.0. Now my client wants to install EHP2 on ECC 6.0 for getting some additional features in travel management like attachment which is not there in ESS 1.0. So they have decided to install EHP2 in ECC 6.0 and supporting to this we will be installing ESS 1.2. Currently our system is up and running with all configurations done on both side ECC as well as in EP. I have a doubt if we install ESS 1.2 on our EP 7.0 which has ESS 1.0 will I need to do all the configurations in EP again like defining system, UWL configuration, UME configuration, creating users etc etc.
Please help.

      Thanks for your help. I have successfully upgraded my system to BP 1.2. Now ESS users are able to use the webdynpro ABAP screen's specially the Travel Management screen's. I have applied the note 1076144 with uwl_com_sap_pct_erp_mss_tra_12.zip correction for getting the webdynpro ABAP screens to managers for approvals too.
      My ESS user is applying for travel request the managers are able to approve it through UWL. But when ESS user creates a expense for the same request with attachments the managers are not getting the WD ABAP screens, they get error. I tried seeing the trace file it says "An error occured in iView: N/A in component: N/A##".
      Can you thow some light on this??

ESS/MSS Upgrade from 4.6 to ECC 6.0 Question..

Hi Gurus,
During the upgrade SAP R/3 would be upgraded from 4.6C to ECC 6.0. The HR module on this R/3 has - Org Management, Benefits, Time Administration and Payroll. They use ESS based on ITS. My question is when they go from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 - would they have to let go the ITS based ESS transactions and go with Web Dynpro based ESS? If yes then what happens to all the customizations they have done to ITS based ESS transactions. Would they have to be redone on the Web Dynpro based ESS?

yes You need to do different customisations for the Web dynpro since ECC 6 is better with WD, ITS functionality wont work here. Please check the training material for the MSS which is very exhaustive.
But if you continue to use ITS then your old customisation should work but then again there will be changes..better to move wholly to WD

Right now the ESS/MSS BP's used in the Existing system (ECC 5.0 and EP 6.0) are given below.

Well i would recommend to use lates BP cause lot has changed from ECC 500 to ECC 600
and they wont be supported and you ll definately get support mismatch here

ESS Upgrade from ITS - Input needed

Hi,
A question regarding upgrade of ESS. Has any body upgraded from 4.6C to ECC and with ESS services still running on ITS. I mean not upgrading to web dynpro version and just using the services based on internal ITS. Is it feasible ? If so, what kind of pitfalls, errors can we expect.
SAP recommends newer webdynpro version. But want to know if the above scenarios are possible.

It is very possible (I have done it for ECC5 and ECC6 clients that wanted to upgrade first before changing ESS/MSS) but I would advise against it. The newer applications are supported and offer much better functionality (as well as a better "look and feel" in the portal). *If* you decide to go that route, a few things to remember...
(1) You no longer have a "global" service file with integrated ITS....therefore, for ALL of the services you wish to use, you will have to define ALL of the necessary ITS parameters in the service itself (via t-code SICF).
(2) Not all ESS ITS services are supported on integrated ITS (you will have to hunt around to find which ones...I know there is a note out there for it).
(3) You will not find actual ITS services (ie Templates) for all of the services. Some are generated on the fly via the "engine" code that reads the FMs for typical "list-to-detail" services (like addresses, banks, etc). If you have the need to customize these "screens", you will have to generate the ITS service yourself for it and then change the templates accordingly (tedious).
Again, it "can" be done....and might works as a temporary solution, but I would highly suggest getting onto the newer versions as soon as possible.

Upgrading SAP ESS and MSS after HR upgrade in ECC 6.0

I am new to SAP netweaver.
Our landscape has an ECC 6.0 system integrated with EP 7.0.
We recently upgraded our SAP HR from 600(SP 48) to 600(SP61) and EA HR component from 603(SP 22) to 603( SP 35).
After the upgrade we came to know that the portal users are facing some issues with Etime application on portal, i did a bit of searching and found that we have to upgrade SAP ESS, MSS and ERP5COM components. (http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPHCM/HOWTOGETRIDOFSPSTACKMISMATCHISSUES)
My questions are:
1) Can we directly apply SP's for ESS, MSS and other components as i cannot find any prerequisites required to be met before they have to applied?
2)If we have ESS SP 04 and the required version is ESS SP07, can we directly apply SP 07 or we have to first apply in a sequence SP05, SP06 and then move to SP07?

Hello,
1) If a developer modified the ESS/MSS package, you need to ask the developer before you apply the patches. In this case, you find the "local version is modified" text in the corresponding package.
2) Java Patches are cumulative, which means that higher Patch contains all corrections of lower Patches.([SAP Note 1249886|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1249886])

Currently my client is using ESS and MSS in portal that can retrieve the data from the Backend 4.6c system. while doing upgrade is there any prerequisites i need to met or is there any post upgrade activities for HR or is there Any dependencies?
Because there is a complete architecutre difference for ESS and MSS in both versions, so how can i manage the things without data inconsistencies?

Hyperion upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2

Hi All,
We have started planning for upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2. Currently we are planning to upgrade UAT/ Test environment first so we have uninstalled everything from UAT server.so we will upgrade UAT to 11.1.2.2 and then migrate applications from PROD to UAT (HFM,FDM,Essbase and EPMA). Do we need to copy all the oracle schema's (HFM,ESS,HSS,EPMA,etc not the fact tables but hyperion components related) from PROD to UAT ?
We know that if we are doing in place upgrade or upgrade from PROD to PROD then it is okay to copy schema's but for cross environment like PROD to UAT , should we copy all the tables ? I am worried about the tables like configuration related, log related ?
Please advice.

There are a number of different available options when upgrading, if you just performing a clean install and then migrating applications you wouldn't need to copy the schemas.
If you are upgrading and leaving the original environment running then you need to clone schemas.

Upgrade from EHP 7.01 to CE 7.1

We have portal EHP 7.01 and we are thinking of upgrading it to CE 7.1 to use Visual composer 7.1 features. We currently got ESS/MSS applications customised and running on EHP7.01 as central portal, also we got NWDI installed on our DEV system. Is upgrading to CE 7.1 is seamless or is it going to be too much hassle because we already have some ESS/MSS applications running on EHP7.01 and NWDI?
I think CE 7.1 uses J2EE server 7 version whereas EHP uses 6.4 version, is this mean there is no directly upgrade from EHP 7.01?
Please clarify from your experience is this something achievable and easy to migrate?
One important question I wanted to ask here is can we use CE 7.1 as a central portal in FPN model? or Should we stick to EHP 7.01 as central portal and use the CE 7.1 as producer portal?

We found that CE 7.1 cannot be used as a central portal and should be installed seperately as lean portal for composite development.
I'm copy pasting some info from documents I gathered.

You would never really decide from a portal point of view to switch to CE 7.1, because for overall portal projects SAP NetWeaver 7.0 is the basis of choice.

In short CE 7.1 has its own u201Cleanu201D portal for composite apps. CE could be installed in isolation and be a producer portal in an FPN without having any technical impact on the 7.0 Portal environment. It could be integrated with NWDI on the 7.0 Portal. ESS Timesheet Approval from ESS

Hi,
We have implemented ESS .We have created workflow for timesheet approval.
Whenever employee creates a timesheet request.The workitem sent to Manager to approve the timesheet records.But when Manager opens the workitem regarding timesheet approval through ESS ,he see all timesheet records of all employees who are reporting to him.
But when we open the same workitem through SBWP it shows onli leave records of the employee related with the workitem not all the reportees.We want same functionality through ESS UWL.
I have checked the configuration related with approval views.
"Define Profiles and Assign to Views" It seems fine.
Kindly suggest for the same.

2. MSS and ESS is implemented for Performance Appraisal. One role and 3000 to 4000 users (Managers) and employee portion of Performance appraisals is in ITS as a URL service to the BSP page. Limitations of upgrading from ERP 2004 to 2005

We are evaluation completing an upgrade from ERP 2004 to 2005. However, we found a limitation in note 879335 regarding upgrading the portal.
We have an Enterprise Portal instance that is separate from the SAP ECC J2EE add-in. The ESS components including XSS run on the J2EE add-in.
According to this note, we cannot upgrade the XSS component on the J2EE add-in because it
is not running on EP. Does this mean we need to undeploy the XSS components and then upgrade the J2EE and then install the XSS component? or Do we need to import the XSS component on EP and then
upgrade?
Why is this a limitation?

New DCs in ESS 600 from ESS 100?

Hi Friends,
I was wondering....
we are upgrading from NW04: ESS 100 sp19 to NW04s: ESS 600 sp12.
I noticed in the new version (ESS 600 sp12) there are new DCs that end in "cfg"
For example...
essusaddr~cfg
essuspdata~cfg
essusfam~cfg
etc. etc.
In the old version (ESS 100 sp19) these "cfg" DC's did not exist. Are they new configuration type DCs? Not sure.

My question is whats the purpose of the DC's that end with cfg? There are now some DC's that end with cfg in the SAP ESS 600 SP012 version that I am trying to find the purpose for?
Now after researching, I think it has something to do with the new way the FPM (Floor Plan Manager) is calling the pcd for configuration.
